Tegast

  • Action Survivor: He has minimal combat experience and has spent his entire life with other beasts around to help him. Nevertheless, he's managed to survive seemingly perilous odds just by adapting to his environment and using whatever skills he has to aid him.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He cared deeply about his brother when he was still alive. A flashback scene shows him carrying his brother on his back in the heat while his footpaws were bleeding.
  • Determinator: Tegast refuses to give up despite everything life throws at him. Even after his family is killed, he doesn't waste time mourning and instead starts looking for another tribe or family to join.
  • Good Is Dumb: Tegast tends to put too much faith in thinking the other beasts he run into are friendly. It almost got him raped and killed at one point.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: Has a very positive outlook on life, despite losing his family and having run into quite a few nasty characters.

Benrath Brugo

  • Cold-Blooded Torture: He brutally tortures Jurlick by shoving pine cones, and then a spear, into his anus.
  • The Dog Bites Back: He finally gives Jurlick a well-deserved, humiliating beat down after he teases and torments him one too many times.
  • Excrement Statement: After he subdues Jurlick, he has his friends pry his mouth open, and then he defecates into it.
  • Parental Incest: His adoptive father formed an incestuous relationship with him when he was barely two years old.
  • Rape as Backstory: Log-a-Log has been raping him ever since he was a babe. Eventually he developed Stockholm Syndrome and got used to it.
  • Straight Gay: He's only attracted to men. Log-a-Log's misogynistic viewpoints and him raping him for several years may have something to do with that.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Starts slowly in Book I, where he finally stands up to Jurlick and beats the crap out of him. After he's gang-raped in Book II, he finally cuts his ties to his father and kills Jurlick. If it hadn't been for Tegast and Grustur showing up, he would've confronted Log-a-Log alone so he could kill him.
  • Walking Spoiler: The fact that he's even on this page and not the subpage for the Guosim is a spoiler.

Grustur

  • Heroic Neutral: He wants nothing to do with fighting Krassak's lizards and seeks to avoid any sort of conflict. But Tegast is usually the one who persuades him to change his mind.
  • Hidden Depths: It's revealed in Book II that he had a son who died sometime ago, which may hint as to why he prefers not getting attached to anyone.
  • Ineffectual Loner: Prefers to be alone and enjoys the freedom of only taking care of himself.
  • Nice Guy: He did save Tegast from death when everyone else, up until that point, was trying to kill him. He's also a generally caring individual.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Book II shows Grustur in a more cynical nature. Although he's still friends with Tegast, he doesn't seem to care about saving other innocent beasts in trouble, as shown when he doesn't intervene in someone getting raped and then killed by Gila.

Darktail the Schemer

  • Action Survivor: Darktail should've died a long time ago, but he manages to wiggle his way out of danger using only his words and his wit. And whenever that doesn't work, his hidden knives usually do the trick.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Every other sentence that comes out his mouth is brimming with sarcasm.
  • Jerkass: Smug, snarky, narcissistic, and only cares about his own survival.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He claims to be a big-time soldier back in the war. Almost no one in the story is aware of who he is, or of his "reputation."
  • Smug Snake: He acts smarter than he usually is, and walks around thinking everyone needs his help with something. He's also very bad at outsmarting other characters like Krassak, but always tries to save face when he knows his schemes have failed.
  • Token Evil Teammate: He's not ashamed about being a backstabbing murderer. He also cares very little about Tegast, Grustur, or Benrath, and is only part of their group because he knows he's a dead fox without them.
