The Original Gods

  • The Maker: All of them have the power to create universes, even Abyss.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The gods of light and darkness never had official names other than those. They are named Radiance and Abyss respectively in this story.
  • Un-person: Agana and Bright are not mentioned in Remnant's mythologies.

    Radiance

The God of Light and Creation

The creator of Remnant.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Light stood idly by when Darkness killed humanity in canon. Here, Radiance is furious with Abyss' destruction of humanity and goes after him. He also shows remorse for the way Salem was wronged even if he can do nothing to bring her family back.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: Radiance acknowledges that bad things will happen that are out of his control and knows that humans are not perfect. But unlike Abyss, he still believes in them and sees their potential for good and to make the best out of the suffering. Shown in full when Salem says that she lost her kingdom only for him to retort that in her quest for vengeance, she was able to create a new one.
  • God's Hands Are Tied: He admits to Salem that he isn't able to just fix everything like bringing back her family since they are already at rest. He also mentions that this is true for good things that happen. He is proud that humanity was able to achieve so much.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: He is the one who fights against both the Jabberwocky and Abyss. He also provided Ozma the chance to fight against Salem and atone for his crimes.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When Salem managed to learn the banishing ritual, he scattered the Relics so she wouldn't be able to bring back Abyss just before being banished.
  • The Maker: While all the gods can make universes, Radiance does this most and is more known for it.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite Abyss and Salem's claims otherwise, he is a rational and caring leader who attempts to help those in need if he can. He also gave Ozma a chance to atone for his crimes if he gathers the Relics.

    Abyss

The God of Darkness and Destruction

An entity believed to be a Grimm that Salem answers to.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Villainy: He was not actively sadistic in canon. This version goes out of his way to torment people. He was also more active in his disdain for humanity and was willing to wipe them out for making mistakes rather than Salem rebelling against them.
  • The Evils of Free Will: He believes that humans on their own are too imperfect both being malicious and prone to making mistakes. This is why he sees them as worthless creations.
  • Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: He often makes jokes at the expense of his victims. His flippant attitude only serves to show how sick and twisted he is.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: He actually cared about his sisters and the precursors to the Grimm were initially peaceful. However, he slowly sees the imperfections in humanity, he goes off on an unhinged rampage to cleanse them.
  • For the Evulz: He had no reason to go mind raping everyone around the Amity Colosseum other than sadism.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Not only does Salem work for him, but since he is the God of Darkness, he is also responsible for the Grimm existing.
  • Humanoid Abomination: He can take on a vaguely human form, but considering he is a god, he is far more eldritch than can be perceived. He has the ability to Mind Rape anyone who comes near him and also manages to transmutate people into Grimm.
  • Humans Are Flawed: It is this belief that leads him to see them as worthless creations.
  • Jerkass: Enjoys psychologically breaking people down until they kill themselves and others, mocking them the whole way through.
  • The Man in Front of the Man: Abyss is initially believed to be an advanced Grimm, but he later reveals himself to be the God of Darkness.
"I don't serve Salem, Salem serves ME."
  • Manipulative Bastard: He cries to Salem about how Radiance imprisoned him and takes advantage of her grief to get revenge.
  • Mind Rape: When staying around Amity, he drove people mad by exploiting their trauma and forcing them to kill themselves or others in the vicinity.
  • Sadist: With how giddy he is about tormenting Glynda with her past, he enjoys the suffering he inflicts on others.
  • Satanic Archetype: He tempts Salem into doing his bidding while being someone bent on destroying humanity. His rebellion against Radiance mirrors Satan's rebellion against God. And he pays for it by being banished from creation by Radiance.
  • Unreliable Expositor: He claims that Radiance was a tyrant who banished him for a minor mistake. We know that the "mistake" was genocide because he was fed up with humanity's imperfections.

    Agana

The Goddess of Warriors

A muscular warrior goddess who created a universe of warriors.

Tropes:

  • Blood Knight: She is a warrior at heart and celebrates the fact that she drew blood on the Jabberwocky.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: She is described as having muscles, which fits her being a warrior goddess.

    Bright

The Goddess of Machinery

A goddess who created a universe filled with machines.

Tropes:

The Jabberwocky

    Jabberwocky

The Jabberwocky

A dragon-like being who destroyed universes.

Tropes:

  • Draconic Abomination: A giant dragon with the power to obliterate universes and consume them.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Its existence was hinted at within Sapphire's dreams during the first three volumes.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Greater than even Abyss since its murder of Bright and Agana are what set Radiance and Abyss on the path to creating Remnant. It gave Abyss a reason to rebel after seeing the imperfect state of humanity.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Radiance traps it in the black void below creation.
  • Spacetime Eater: It eats entire universes.

The Relics

    Jinn

Jinn

The being within the Relic of Knowledge.

Tropes:

  • Ms. Exposition: Her purpose is to act as a conduit to deliver backstory.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She still appears as a giant naked blue woman.
  • Precision F-Strike: Before retreating into the relic again, she tells Ozpin "Fuck you" out of spite for all the damage he caused.

The Era of Salem's Kingdom

    Salem

Queen Salem

Find her tropes here.

    The King

The King

Salem's husband and the male monarch of her kingdom.

Tropes:

  • Et Tu, Brute?: He is aghast at the idea that Ozma was willing to sell out him and his children to save his own skin.
  • The Good King: He and Salem were regarded as good leaders.

    Ozma

Chancellor Ozma

See his tropes under Ozpin's folder.

    Warrior Leader

The warrior leader

A brutish fighter intending to lay waste to Salem's kingdom.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Karma: The Warrior from the Infinite Man was a Karma Houdini who was never shown being punished for her crimes. Here, she's not so lucky.
  • Adaptational Villainy: She seems to be based on the warrior from the Infinite Man. In that case, the fact that she does what she does on a regular basis and also includes rape in her list of crimes proves this trope correct.
  • Blood Knight: She lives for a good fight and she'll take it wherever she can get it.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She cares not for the honor of the battle. Only causing bloodshed. When Salem has her pinned in fair combat, she takes out a knife and stabs her eye.
  • Composite Character: She is the one who becomes the Hound.
  • Face Death with Dignity: She doesn't fear death and chuckles when Salem comes to take her revenge. Unfortunately for her, Abyss has something worse in mind.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Forcibly turned into the Hound, condemned to a lifetime of obediently following Salem's every order.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: Something she seems all too aware of. She knew her misdeeds would catch up to her and smiled when Salem comes to take revenge.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: Her modus operandi. She and her armies take pride in going through kingdoms to pillage the towns and "take bedmates" for themselves. She openly states that she'll take the king as her bedmate and seems to take an interest in Salem after defeating her. And she'll settle for completely slaughtering a kingdom instead.
  • Serial Rapist: She has a throne made of bones, each is one taken from her several "bedmates."
  • Unskilled, but Strong: She is a mighty warrior, but Salem is able to hold her off since her attacks are unfocused and sloppy.
  • Would Hurt a Child: She has no problem attacking children.
