  • Daddy's Girl: She's implied to be one as well as being her father's employee and soon-to-be business partner.
  • Innocent Bystander: She becomes one when Jimmy imprisons her in the center of the building.
  • She Knows Too Much: This is one of Mary's motives for killing her.
  • Skyward Scream: In a nightmare sequence in which she is buried alive in cement.

Jimmy

Played by: Cameron Bright

  • Abhorrent Admirer: To Sam.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: To the extent of killing Peter.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He throws himself into the basement in order to save Sam.
  • Momma's Boy: He has grown up as one because Malestrazza murdered his father and sister before he was even born, leaving his mother to raise him all by herself and also because his mother refuses to allow him any human contact with anyone else.
  • Stalker with a Crush: To Sam.

Mary

Played by: Deborah Kara Unger

  • Abusive Parent: To Jimmy, especially when she discovers he's imprisoned Sam with Malestrazza.
  • Crusading Widow: She has kept Malestrazza imprisoned in the basement for 15 years for murdering her husband and daughter.
  • Overprotective Mom: To Jimmy since she had to raise him herself as Malestrazza murdered her husband and daughter.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Against Malestrazza.

Joseph Malestrazza

Played by: Pascal Greggory

  • The Determinator: Such was his pride in his architecture and desire to preserve it that he resorted to murdering innocent people (including children) by burying them alive in cement.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He buries himself in cement but has Sam stab him first.
  • Human Sacrifice: He believes this method was used in the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza and murdered 16 innocent people this way.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: As part of his Heroic Sacrifice.
  • It's All About Me: He was so proud of his architecture and determined to preserve it that he willingly murdered 16 innocent people by burying them alive in cement.
  • Name To Run Away From: His name sounds like an extension of malice or molester.
  • Sadist: He murdered 16 innocent people (including at least one child) on the basis of his own belief that use of Human Sacrifice is why the Great Pyramid of Giza is still standing and wished the same thing upon his architecture.
  • Would Hurt a Child: His victims include Mary's young daughter Julie.

Julie

Played by: Sofi Knight

  • Break the Cutie: She's taken from her apartment in the middle of the night (as indicated by the fact that she is barefoot in her nightdress) and placed inside a hollow column with no way out and cement pouring in....
  • Buried Alive: In cement.
  • Censored Child Death: We don't actually get to see her die but we do get to see the hollowed out column where her body was found.
  • Constructive Body Disposal: She is murdered by burial in cement.
  • Corner of Woe: Combined with Died Standing Up as she backs into a corner, crying and and screaming for her father one last time, as her demise approaches.
  • Daddy's Girl: She screams for her (possibly already murdered) father as she realises she's trapped and about to drown in cement.
  • Died Standing Up: The column she was imprisoned in allowed enough room for her to sit but she quickly stands up when cement starts to pour in and backs into a Corner of Woe as her demise approaches.
  • Enclosed Space: She wakes up to find herself trapped in one, unfortunately for her, it turns out to be a hollow building column that's about to be filled with cement.
  • Gory Discretion Shot: We're spared from actually witnessing her demise as the screen fades to black when the cement is just inches from her mouth.
  • Human Sacrifice: She and her father are two of 16 innocent people murdered by burial in cement by Malestrazza.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Played with, she repeatedly screams for her father as she's about to drown in cement.
  • Kidnapped While Sleeping: This is implied because she is barefoot in her nightdress when she wakes up to find herself trapped in a sealed room that is about to be filled with cement.
  • Kill the Cutie: No sooner does she realise her predicament, cement starts pouring in, turning her prison into a Drowning Pit.
  • Posthumous Sibling: To Jimmy.
  • Skyward Scream: A very brief one and it's more of a tearful wail at that before the screen fades to black
  • Wall Slump: Her hand slumps down into the rising cement as she realises she's trapped with no hope of rescue and she's about to die.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: We see her for about a minute before she ends up as a Human Sacrifice.
