Starring Roles

     Trent Malloy

Trenton "Trent" Malloy

Portrayed by: James Wicek

The son of Katie and the late Thunder Malloy, older brother of Tommy, Tyler and Tandi Malloy and a former karate student of Walker's and a private investigator and karate instructor who assists the Rangers on their assignments along with Carlos.

  • Accidental Child-Killer Backstory: When Trent was a little boy, he was fighting another kid over a gun and inadvertently pulled the trigger, resulting in that kid's accidental death. Trent would never think about touching a gun ever again following this. While it was an accident, Trent never forgave himself for this.
  • Alphabetical Theme Naming: His first name starts with the letter "T", as do his father (Thunder) and siblings (Tommy, Tandi and Tyler).
  • Badges and Dog Tags: Before becoming a private investigator, Trent held the rank of a sergeant in the US Army before his honorable discharge following the death of his father.
  • Big Brother Instinct: As the eldest of his siblings, Trent watches out for them on a regular basis.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Accidentally killing one of his friends when they were fighting over a gun when he and Carlos were little kids made him think twice about ever touching a gun again, even after enlisting in the army.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Trent's father, Thunder Malloy, passed away during a baseball game at his church.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: With the experience he has in the Army, later his honorable discharge since his father died, he had been looking for something where he could help people, but abstain from handling a gun. He later opened his detective agency and karate school after a few days of working as a mall security guard.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: While Trent was fighting another kid over a gun when he was a little boy, it resulted in that kid's accidental death. As such, Trent wouldn't even think about touching a firearm, even when he enlisted in the army, preferring hand-to-hand combat any day. Since his honorable discharge, he opened a karate school named after his father and became a private investigator instead of following his his father's path and becoming the church's new pastor and joining a law enforcement agency. Unfortunately, this proves to be his undoing in Season 7's "Special Witness" when he is stabbed by a federally-wanted assassin named Donovan Riggs hired by mob boss Morris Foley to prevent him from testifying against him in court, with the only witness to the attack being a Special Olympian he was escorting to running practice. Fortunately, he survives and pulls through in time for Foley's trial, with Walker having arrested Riggs.
  • Jury and Witness Tampering: In Season 7's "Special Witness", he suffers this at the hands of Morris Foley when he hires a federally-wanted assassin named Donovan Riggs to either kill or incapacitate him so he cannot testify against him in court, and being that he was the only witness in Foley's trial, if he didn't pull through in time to testify, Alex would have no case to build against him. After Walker arrests Riggs, he is able to pull through in time to testify.
  • Private Detective: His profession since his honorable discharge from the army when he returned home to mourn the recent death of his father. He said he wanted to help people, but after an incident he had as a child with guns, he would rather not join any law enforcement agency, where learning how to handle a gun is mandated.
  • Promotion to Parent: He oftentimes acts as a second father to his siblings since the death of his father.
  • Real Men Love Jesus: He may be the son of the First Christian Church of Dallas's first pastor and religious just like he, but he didn't want to follow in this footstep since his death. He does, however, mix in religious beliefs and hand-to-hand combat by opening his karate school.

     Carlos Sandoval

Carlos Sandoval

Portrayed by: Marco Sanchez

Trent Malloy's best friend and an officer for the Dallas Police Department later promoted to detective.

  • Disguised in Drag: He did this once during a sting operation during the prologue of "Special Witness", much to his chagrin. The operation worked.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He was originally afraid of heights, especially during the beginning of Season 5's "Sons of Thunder" when he, Trivette and Walker were in pursuit of a bank robber who hijacked a hot air balloon with Katie onboard. He eventually conquers his fear when he and Trent save Walker from falling to his death while the three confront the gunman who tried to kill him, and mistakenly shot Trivette.

Alex was imprisoned for killing her ex-boyfriend, who was the defending attorney in her current trial and was left to deal with a vengeful pack of inmates she prosecuted in years' past, only for Walker, Trivette and Gordon to eventually prove that her current defendant, Lane Tillman, framed her, and Alfre for drugs found in her car that weren't even hers to begin with. After Alex is proven innocent, she decides to return the favor by convincing Gordon to take Alfre's case. They are successful and she is released one episode and season later.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Though mostly quiet and mousy, she does learn a thing or two of self-defense from Walker and Alex.
  • She-Fu: While she and Alex are held on their respective trumped-up charges, the latter ends up dealing with a pack of vengeful female inmates she prosecuted, not even the self-defense lessons Walker taught were enough, until the former intervenes and assists. After Alfre saves her from the inmates, Alex returns the favor by having Gordon take her case. Crowder bumped Gorman down to private and kept him in the stockade for 30 days after he threw a punch. Gorman vowed revenge after the fact, and a week after his dishonorable discharge, he shot Crowder and Roscoe when they went to a late-night movie in San Antonio. Crowder didn't make it, but Roscoe survived and his testimony landed Gorman a life sentence in Huntsville, only for him to be released three months prior to the episode.

    Walker: Yeah, why?
Trivette: You're never gonna believe this.
[later at the church when the two Rangers, Carlos and Trent apprise Roscoe of the situation]
    Roscoe: Stan Gorman?!
Trivette: Leader of the Sons of the Reich.
Trent: What's going on? Do you know him?
Roscoe: Adam! Get up to that school and bring him home right now!
    Trent: What?
Roscoe: Don't ask questions, just do it!
    Trent: Okay.
    Carlos: I'll go with him.
Walker: What's this all about, Roscoe?
Roscoe: Walker, the bullet that killed Rodney Summers was meant for my Adam!
  • Papa Wolf: During the events of "The Soul of Winter", when a parishioner named Rodney Summers is shot dead by the Sons of the Reich, he later learns Adam was the intended target when the Rangers find out the leader of the organization, Stan Gorman, was behind it.
