    Reina Manaka

Portrayed by: Megumi Yokoyama

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reina_manaka_1.png
Kengo's single mother who lived in the Mars colony along with her son, she is also good friends with Mitsukuni Shizuma.
  • Secret-Keeper: She was aware that Kengo would become Trigger due to finding him in the Mars temple as a baby and raising him as her son, she never revealed this directly to Kengo, who figured it out once he saw and learned of his origins.
  • Truly Single Parent: Of sorts, she found Kengo as a baby when exploring the Mars temple where Trigger was sealed in, and given that Kengo is described as light and human, it is implied that Trigger's light reached her and gave birth to the human Kengo that way even if from her perspective she just happened to find him lying there.
  • Walking Spoiler: The things she knew about Kengo and Trigger's connection are a massive spoiler of the series.

    Yuzare

Portrayed by: Runa Toyoda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuzare_trigger.png
A mysterious woman dressed in white that appears to Kengo and attempts to inform him of a something regarding his future and connection to Trigger. The Dark Giants seek to bring her out in order to obtain the Eternity Core.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In the original Ultraman Tiga, Yuzare turned Ultraman Tiga to the light because he fell in love with her, here she turned Trigger (Tiga's equivalent) to the light when she helped a time-displaced Kengo reach out to Trigger Dark and purify him with light causing his turn to good, eschewing any romantic relationship this time around even with Kengo.
  • Alternate Self: Is one of the original Yuzare, being a mysterious woman whose entire character is heavily tied to the Giants of Light and Darkness and appears to the hero as a mysterious informant and guide.
  • Arc Words: Always seen in Kengo's dreams telling him that he is light and something else, however she is always cut off before she can state what that other thing Kengo is. After clearing his mind in episode 15, Kengo figures out that she's telling him he's light and... human, as in a child of both Ultraman's light, as the reincarnation of Trigger's inner light, and humans, as his light form took on a human one after his future mother found him in the ruins.
  • Attack Reflector: Her shield is capable of not only blocking attacks, but can even deflect them back at the attackers.
  • Barrier Warrior: Her main power so far is the capacity to create shields of light that can block, absorb or reflect attacks. They are all powerful enough to withstand and reflect attacks from even the Dark Giants.
  • Ethereal White Dress: Just like the original Yuzare she is clad in a bright white dress along with a hood which serves to reflect her status as a mystical benevolent woman.
  • Greater-Scope Paragon: If not for her actions, Kengo would never have reached Trigger and caused the Dark Giant to turn good, making her responsible for most of the series' good.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Used the last of her lifeforce to empower Trigger with the Eternity Core, allowing him to access his Glitter Eternity Form and seal the Dark Giants in stone for millions of years.
  • Light Is Good: Her robe is colored a pristine white, she's always surrounded by a white light and is a firm ally of Ultraman Trigger.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: The Dark Giants are after her because she's the key for them to obtain the Eternity Core, which Captain Shizuma and Akito are aware of.
  • Mystical Waif: She is a young-looking woman who appears in Kengo's dreams and visions and has connections to Trigger and the Dark Giants.
  • Posthumous Character: At least physically since she died by giving up her lifeforce to empower the newly-christened Ultraman Trigger in the past to help him stop the Dark Giants with his Glitter Eternity form but her spirit continues appearing to help the heroes.
  • Reincarnation: Yuzare died centuries ago giving the Eternity Core's power to Trigger so he can stop the Dark Giants, but prevails in the present inside Yuna Shizuma.
  • Ring of Power: Most of her powers are summoned from her ring, her descendants passed it on so her reincarnation would wield it once more; with the spirit of Yuzare herself manifesting out of the ring to boot.

    Ignis

Portrayed by: Kei Hosogai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/e2xmhinvoaenryf.jpg
A treasure hunter from Planet Lishuria. At first sight, Lishurians are indistinguishable from humans on Planet Earth, but when they get excited or emotional, the difference becomes clear. As he’s always fond of saying, he quests only for the “top-class” treasures, and his galactic travels bring him to Earth, where he somehow meets up with and becomes closely tied to GUTS-Select. What on Earth could he possibly be seeking…
  • Affably Evil: At first he's an aloof, shameless thief who is nonetheless polite, sophisticated and superficially friendly with everyone.
  • Anti-Hero: The latter half of the series sees him develop into one of these, as he begins to work closely with GUTS Select to stop the Dark Giants, albeit for his own purposes. When he obtains the means to become Trigger Dark this is even more exemplified as he is far more brutal and ruthless than Kengo/Trigger but is undoubtedly on the side of good. Episode 22 even revealed that he planned to use the Eternity Core to resurrect the Lishurians, initially uncaring of whatever else happened to the Universe so as long as his friends and family came back, but his time with Kengo, Yuna and Akito as well as the friendship they made was enough to make him hesitant and ultimately unwilling to actually go through with it.
  • Arch-Enemy: Is this (mutually) to Hudram, the blue Dark Giant is Ignis' most hated foe and the one who killed off his race, the Lishurians which made Ignis swore to destroy Hudram one day with his enmity driving his actions throughout the series.
  • Batman Gambit: Makes on in episode 22 which consists of the following: he kidnaps Yuna to resurrect his kind and use her as bait to make the Dark Giants come in so they can clash with GUTS Select, whose attention he drew by leaving a message on how to find him; he also made sure Kengo and Akito were sidelined by Mecha-Musashin who Kengo activated by predictably pressing a Shmuck Bait Big Red Button he left. He only backs out of this plan due to realizing how much he is not willing to risk for his goals.
  • Berserk Button:
    • He can keep himself calm and collected most of the time, but the sight of Hudram alone can make him lose his composure greatly. Hudram reminding him of the death of the Lishurians only gets him even madder.
    • A less extreme example is found in that calling him a thief is nothing he likes and will get into an argument over the term, as shown with his feud with Barossa IV.
  • Broke Your Arm Punching Out Cthulhu: Is able to wound Carmeara by using a Combination Attack using both his Kaiju Keys and Trigger's Circle Arms as Trigger Dark, but her attack detransforms him from Trigger Dark and leaves him painfully on the ground, leading to his arrest by GUTS Select.
  • But Now I Must Go: Leaves Earth in the finale to explore the universe in order find a way to bring back the Lishurians safely.
  • Butt-Monkey: He is often at the tail end of rather humiliating situations and misfortunes in his pursuit of treasure, such as getting thrown into the distance by Oka-Gubila after spending a whole episode screaming and being forced to cling on for life to the rampaging beast, or getting pooped on by Kedamya after Barossa's defeat.
  • Bystander Syndrome: In episode 12 he bears witness to Trigger's fight against Trigger Dark. At the end of the episode he ends up possessed by the leftover essence of Trigger Dark for his troubles.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: After he creates the the Black Sparklence, he announces a dark inverson of Kengo's call-out for Multi Type before transforming into Trigger Dark.
Ignis: Stain the future, the deep darkness. Trigger Dark!
  • Casting Gag: Kei Hosogai is once again playing an intergalactic treasure hunter looking for the greatest treasure of them all. Not to mention his co-star from Gokaiger Luka/Gokai Yellow played Marlulu in this show...
  • Character Development:
    • Ignis starts out as a compulsively greedy person, willing to get in the way of others, such as GUTS Select, for the sake of taking something he wants. Later episodes have him tone down this behavior and even start cooperating with GUTS Select in their operations eventually only taking things once the dust has settled enough for not much trouble to arise, and finally not doing it altogether.
    • He initially cares nothing about Kengo, Yuna or Akito, besides trolling them in any way he can; but by the latter half of the series he starts to view them as genuine friends to the point that in episode 22 when given the choice between using the Eternity Core to resurrect the Lishurians and saving Yuna from Hudram, he chooses to save his friend from his nemesis and his bond with her and the others lets him defeat Hudram once and for all.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He's a treasure hunter. His inventory are more than just expendables, as they prove to be useful at best. Such as his flying broomstick and the Mecha Musashin he uses to stall Kengo and company.
  • Decomposite Character: Episode 12 sets him up to be this for Ultraman Tiga's Keigo Masaki as a neutral-aligned character who turns evil after coming into contact with the power of an Ultraman (Evil Tiga for Masaki and Trigger Dark for Ignis).
  • Enemy Mine: Episode 6, "One Hour Demon", sees him helping GUTS Select with no issue on his part so as to destroy Satandelos and stop Hudram's plans. He later on takes a more active role as an ally for this exact same reason.
  • Failed Dramatic Exit: In the fourth episode he tries to make a great escape from Yuna, Akito, Kengo and some security guards by performing a great leap over their heads... Only to land right next to them and instead run off awkwardly while chased down by the aforementioned guards.
  • Foreshadowing: In episode 12 he ends up possessed by Trigger Dark's essence, all but stated to have become the Dark Giant's host. This is something foreshadowed by a few things throughout the series:
    • The opening credits of the series show him standing next to a building that reflects Trigger Dark's shadowy-concealed figure
    • His debut episode has him mistaken as Hudram's human form.
    • Episode 6 sees him growing interested in obtaining Trigger's power to get his revenge on Hudram.
  • Flying Broomstick: Ignis uses a flying broomstick made with Gue-Basser feathers to get around.
  • Friendly Enemy: Early on he was technically GUTS Select's enemy, but his much nicer attitude and laidback behavior meant that they saw him as a mild annoyance at worst, rather than a true enemy. This aspect fades into full-blown friendship once he starts getting Character Development.
  • Gambit Roulette: His plan in episode 22 was shown to have been initially to arrive at the Eternity Core's place with Yuna/Yuzare as his captive, take the artifact with her unwitting help and use it to resurrect the Lishurians; but after befriending the members of GUTS Select he decided to let them know of his plans so they could try and stop him all while leaving obstacles behind so they wouldn't stop him too early, and that's all without considering that the Dark Giants might've stood in his way. Luckily for everyone, he eventually abandons the plan altogether after coming to realize how much he values his current friendships.
  • Glamour Failure: Should he get angry, he starts getting black marks on his face and red eyes. Said marks appearing on Trigger Dark's face end up being a sign that he's in control.
  • Greed: He steals a lot of treasure and artifacts that he believes are exquisite. He decides to start going for Yuna when he learns that she's the heiress to her father's wealthy company.
  • I Have You Now, My Pretty: In his first appearance he tries to kidnap Yuna but is stopped by Kengo and Akito, though he continues targeting her later on, even if not actively and continues calling her "exquisite" later on, though that seems to be more for the sake of annoying her (and Akito).
  • Heroes' Frontier Step:
    • Episode 17 sees him witness Metsu-Orochi's rampage, and promptly enter the fray to stop the monster when he flashes back to the Lishurian genocide and realizes that Metsu-Orochi is causing the same pain to humans as Hudram did to the Lishurians. With the revelation in episode 22 that he intended to stop Hudram so he could not harm anyone anymore further establishes this moment as the one where he went from full-blown Wild Card to an Anti-Hero with a genuine sense of justice.
    • Episode 22 sees him stuck with the decision to choose between getting the Eternity Core or saving Yuna from Hudram, he chooses to save Yuna and stop Hudram once and for all; indicating his Heel–Face Turn and that he truly does care about his new friends.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold:
    • For all the crap and annoyance he gives to GUTS Select, he is a caring individual deep down; to the point that he rushes into battle to stop Metsu-Orochi when the latter is rampaging as he can't stand letting the people of Earth suffer like the Lishurians did at Hudram's creations' hands.
    • Episodes 21 and 22 establish that he has genuinely come to see the members of GUTS Select (especially Kengo, Yuna and Akito) as genuine friends of his, to the point that he lets them know of his plans for the Eternity Core and even gives them ample time to catch up to him, even though he could've easily gotten away with his goals without alerting them to his intent.
  • Human Aliens: The Lishurians in general look exactly like humans on the outside. But their human-like appearance starts to slip away if they get angry, showing dark marks and red eyes on their faces.
  • In a Single Bound: Zigzagged. He can leap great distances but can't jump that high up, so he mostly just jumps away in straight lines with little elevation.
  • It Must Be Mine!: Feels that anything "exquisite" shall be his, be it treasure, Yuna, or old shiny artifacts.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: Whatever happened between him and Hudram, it caused anything between him and the Dark Giant to become a very personal issue. It's later revealed that it was his planet being destroyed and all other Lishurians being exterminated which made it really personal for Ignis.
  • Last of His Kind: He is the last Lishurian left after Hudram's genocide and destruction of their homeworld.
  • Meaningful Name: "Ignis" is the Latin word for "Fire", befitting Ignis' explosive and reactionary personality as well as his uncontrolled anger when dealing with genuinely hurting subjects.
  • Mistaken Identity: Kento, Akito and Yuna assume him to be Hudram’s human form, until Yuna sees the two together (with Ignis professing to having met Hudram before) and clears it up.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Encountered Hudram somewhere in the 100 years before the show, and carries an intense grudge against the Dark Giant as a result of a yet-to-be explained incident. It's eventually revealed that he hates Hudram for destroying his planet and killing all other Lishurians.
    • He somehow got his hands on the feather of a Gue-Basser, which he uses to fly around and enter the Nursedessei.
  • Older Than They Look: He is 334 years old, which is the equivalent to 34 in Earth Years.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Ignis is, for the most part, a calm, collected and snarky person even in the face of danger, but when he meets Hudram again he explodes into a rage, and he has a very good reason to lose it in the first place.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • For all his treatment of Yuna, he does come to her rescue when Hudram targets and kidnaps her.
    • He also hands back the Ultra Medals to Haruki in episode 7 as a sign of gratitude for being saved from Barossa.
    • Though he also seems to just be ruining his attempts at the end, in episode 10 he does try to give some advice to Darrgon and comment on how badly he's doing it.
    • Though he steals a prototype discarded GUTS Sparklence for his own use, he gives Akito intel on the Absolutians as "payment" despite this being wholly unnecessary to his goals.
  • Phantom Thief: With his tendency to appear and leave quickly in the blink of an eye he gives off this status, especially given his thieving ways and desire to have anything he deems "exquisite".
  • Power Incontinence: It's quickly established that while Ignis can tap into Trigger Dark's power fine while he's himself, he does not have any control of Trigger Dark while as the Dark Giant, with him requiring great effort just to be able to utilize his other Kaiju Keys in battle. Episode 21 reveals that the lack of control was caused by some problem areas in the Dark Sparklence. After Akito fixes them, Ignis is able to fully control himself as Trigger Dark.
  • Power Tattoo: As part of his Lishurian physiology, Ignis can manifest tribal markings on his face when in an intense emotional state or using his powers. At one point, he can manifest his facial markings unto Trigger Dark's visage.
  • Resolved Noodle Incident: In episode 7 we finally learn why he hates Hudram so much: The Dark Giant committed genocide on his people and left Ignis alive as an act of Cruel Mercy out of boredom from the previous destruction he had caused.
  • Sad Clown: Ignis is most of the time a confident, carefree and shameless troublemaker out to provoke others for his own amusement but deep beneath the bravados and trolling behavior lies an emotionally vulnerable and traumatized person with nothing but revenge on his mind for the death of his people at Hudram's hands.
  • Secret-Keeper: Like Chairman Shizuma and Akito he's aware of Kengo being Trigger's host/human form, but keeps quiet out of amusement in teasing Kengo about it.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: For some reason, he doesn't re-appear in Ultraman Decker given the gravity of the Spheres' invasion of Earth with Kengo being the only recurring character from this series to appear in the sequel. Although he returns in the second season of Ultraman New Generation Stars as one of its navigators.
  • Sixth Ranger: Becomes this to GUTS Select in a way, while he initially only outwardly cooperates for his own sake, he starts to more actively help them out later on, eventually going as far as joining their meetings and fighting with Kengo/Trigger as Trigger Dark against Aboras and Banila, implying them to become Bash Brothers.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While never outright malicious at the start, Ignis was a shameless thieving Wild Card who would often hinder GUTS Select and their operations for the sake of his goals, but as the series progresses and the members start to befriend him he drops his more screwy aspects and eventually starts helping them out of his own free will and kindness, by episode 22 he fully accepts their friendship and is willing to give the team a chance to stop his plans of using the Eternity Core to resurrect the Lishurians, if they can catch up to him and by the end of the episode any and all animosity between him and the team has evaporated after Hudram's final defeat.
  • Troll: Enjoys screwing with the GUTS Select crew for the sake of it and teasing all of their members, from constantly calling Yuna "exquisite lady" to rile her up, to throwing his Gue-Basser feather at Akito everytime he appears in the Nurdessei, and even messing with Marluru and Seiya with a scalp massager while they're trying to deal with a virus crisis. He'll even mess with a Dark Giant (like Darrgon) if he feels safe enough to do so.
  • Unknown Rival: He hates Hudram with all his being for some unexplained reason, but Hudram doesn't even remember meeting him up until a furious Ignis reminds him to his face.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Played for Laughs in episode 4, he runs away when Yuna calls in security to evict him from an excavation site of ancient Ultra ruins and he makes his escape... By awkwardly running away mundanely while chased off by security guards.
  • Virtuous Character Copy: Ignis can be seen as this to Kei Hosogai's other Tokusatsu role, that being Basco ta Jolokia. Both are alien treasure hunters who have a knack of giving the good guys a hard time. Ignis at his best moments is a Jerk with a Heart of Gold who became close friends with the heroes and eventually helped them during the Final Battle. Basco is the Red Ranger's Arch-Enemy who has little to no redeeming qualities and happily betrays the people whom he associated with to get ahead.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: His goal was to resurrect the Lishurians with the power of the Eternity Core, while not caring what consequences for the rest of the universe came about from this action. Episode 22 has him slowly abandon the goal as he realizes how much he values the friendships he has right now to actually risk it all.
  • Wild Card:
    • At first it was unclear what his true agenda was, beyond involving Yuna in some way. He does at least opposes the Dark Giants, though most of his hatred is reserved for Hudram, but isn't on GUTS Select's side for the time being. Episode 6 sees him becoming more proactive in helping, if only to stop Hudram's plans.
    • Episode 22 clarifies things at last. He does begin to see the members of GUTS Select as genuine friends, but he plans to resurrect the Lishurian race with the Eternity Core, however he is willing to let them try and stop him rather than keeping them in the dark without a chance to stop him. After he defeats Hudram for the last time, he fully drops this aspect.
  • Worthy Opponent: Regards Captain Seiya Tatsumi as this, with the two exchanging respectful looks during their fight in the fourth episode when they clash.
  • You Kill It, You Bought It: Similar to the Alien Barossas, most of Ignis's treasures are looted from various Ultra Series aliens and monsters. In addition to the broom made from Gue-Basser feathers, among his other treasures include: an interdimensional device from an Alien Zarab, an Okorin Ball parasite, and a Bugdalas' feather.

    Deban

Portrayed by: Risae Matsuda (voice)

  • Oh, Crap!: When he spots a Devil's Splinter floating near him in the third Deban Show episode he panics and calls the Galaxy Rescue Force for help.
  • Show Within a Show: He hosts the fictional talk show, Deban Channel, which he uses to inform others of the exploits of Ultramen and their allies.
  • Suddenly Speaking: This version of Deban is perfectly capable of speech and have no problems communicating with the audience, compared to the previous Deban in Tiga's series.

    Zabil (Spoiler Character

Zabil/Ryuichi Tokioka

Portrayed by: Yuichi Nakamura

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zabil.png
"R'lyeh Ku Leyrah"
An ancient human who fell in love with Yuzare and sought to become an Ultraman to fight the Dark Giants, however the appearance of Trigger put an end to that dream causing him to turn to darker means to become an Ultraman. He poses as new GUTS Select Captain, Tokioka to achieve his goals.
  • A God Am I: When he becomes Evil Trigger his sanity deteriorates to the point that he starts to rant that he is light as well as God. Complete with a laugh that would make Light Yagami proud.
  • Alternate Self: Essentially the true equivalent of Keigo Masaki in Trigger's world, being a human who desired to become an Ultraman and has a connection to the Ancient Civilization then became Evil Trigger due to his negative emotions corrupting the power he took to become an Ultraman.
  • Batman Gambit: Freed Kengo from the Eternity Core so he could take his power.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: One of two main antagonists of the Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga: The Movie: Episode Z film along with Celebro
  • Fatal Flaw: His inability to move on from Yuzare's death and his resentment towards Trigger and every Giant of Light in general. It literally drove him mad and thinks that Humans should become the light when it doesn't work that way. As Kengo points out.
  • Go Out with a Smile: After his defeat, he regains his sanity and peacefully fades into the light, as seeing GUTS Select's camaraderie reminded him of happier days with Yuzare and his teammates.
  • The Resenter: Resents that Trigger's turn to light and defeat of his Dark Giant teammates ensured that he would never need to become an Ultraman and on top of that, Yuzare died helping Trigger to seal his teammates.
  • Sanity Slippage: After becoming Evil Trigger, his already unstable sanity takes a nosedive, as he's reduced to a madman ranting about the light and the power of an Ultra.
  • Shadow Archetype: Zabil has a few similarities to his present-day counterpart, Akito Hijiri, in that both are geniuses in their respective teams, harboring feelings for a female member in their teams and losing their loved ones. Additionally, they have complex relationship with Kengo, in that they secretly resent him for being Ultraman Trigger but nevertheless supporting his fight from behind the scenes. However, while Akito buried the hatchet with Kengo and moves on with his parents death, Yuzare's death severely affecting Zabil, provoking him to steal Kengo's powers to become Evil Trigger before he went off to the deep end of his insanity. In short, Zabil is what Akito could have been if his negative traits were taken to the most extreme.
  • Tragic Villain: Most of his actions stem from his grief over Yuzare's death and his inability to save his teammates of the Terran Protection Team, which led him to realize humanity's powerlessness and conclude that humans needed to become Ultras to defend Earth by themselves.
