Beware of spoilers in the wild!
The 10
The 10 who get caught up in a session of murders on an uninhabited island and become Ten Little Murder Victims.
Our Player Character and protagonist. This 18-year old boy has just moved into a new town, and his adventures make up the entire story.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Can send 2 guards to the hospital if in danger.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Has had a crush on Kotoko for a long time. Because of this trope, he decides to write a love letter instead.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Apple green. It's the color of his eyes.
- Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Is frantically searching as to what to become later. His age means that he has to choose soon.
- Does Not Like Spam: Juice with the pulp still in it.
- Mafia Prince: His family seems to have a long history with crime. His father was a gang member, his mother gambles, and his sister (and him, for as far as we know) is the only one to avert this - Tsumugu mentions that she has never been arrested. It doesn't impact the story much, but hints are dropped to it from time to time, like when he says that the fingerprints of his family are in the police database. It is also telling that when Nozaki hits him, his first instinct is to hit back.
- Then again, it's not like he's exactly hiding it, and isn't really fazed when someone refers to him as a mafia member.
- Nice Guy: Generally pleasant to have around, and tries going for the best way to approach people.
An artist who is the twin brother of the famous actor Koyo Morotomiya. Tsumugu gets stuck with him in a shed during the prologue.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Dark blue.
- Dark and Troubled Past: The story behind his scar. His brother, Koyo, wanted to be independant and tried to kill Sosei. It is a remnant of this incident and he covers it up by wearing black turtlenecks (or in the summer, black collars).
- Deadpan Snarker: Whenever there's a chance to snark, he will take that opportunity.
- Does Not Like Spam: Bread rolls.
- Limited Wardrobe: Lampshaded. His messy room is full of black sweaters, and he is compared to Steve Jobs because of that.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Subverted. He has bright red eyes, but he is a very strong ally on your side.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue to Koyo's red. This is also represented visually: Sosei's name tag is dark blue, Koyo's is red.
- The Stoic: Except when he is drunk.
- Sweet Tooth: Crosses over with Food as Bribe. One way to get him to do what you want is literally bribe him with cake.
- This ends up working the wrong way, as Kotoko convinces him to stay inside because of ice cream.
- Trash of the Titans: His room is a mess.
- Twin Switch: Pulls this right in the prologue. His tag also switches to Koyo's color.
The Childhood Friend of Tsumugu he meets again. A Nice Girl who also knows Mirei. She has a brother, Yuu, who studies in Italy.
- The Ace: Constantly mentioned to be good in sports, to get good notes and makes friends easily. Though this might have become a facade after her brother died.
- Angst? What Angst?: In-Universe example. Directly after Akira is poisoned, she says she needs some air and you can't talk to her. A few chapters later (which cannot be more than half an hour later, mind you), she suddenly joins Sosei and you on the investigation of the office, showing none of her previous disturbance.
- Batman Gambit: The fact that Tsumugu agrees to check out the boiler outside when there is no hot water in the cottage as well as him going alone to search for Sally (and him finding out about the warehouse was something Kotoko knew he would do as she's been witnessing his ingenuity as well as him caring about his friends for very long, never mind that they are also Childhood Friends.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Basically, she seems nice enough during the first arc, but as it turns out, there is not a nice bone in her body.
- The Cassandra: Kept explaining that her brother didn't just die of alcohol intoxication, but that Fumi and Nozaki forced him to drink. Because the police didn't believe her, she started her revenge plan.
- Character Tics: Clasping her hands with lowered arms, like her brother's sprite.
- Childhood Friend: To Tsumugu and also to Mirei.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Orange.
- Does Not Like Spam: Greasy meat.
- Expy: Presented as the Nice Girl love interest of the Player Character who catches attention around her and having a sibling they lost contact with, while in reality being a Serial Killer acting through a thoroughly set up plan and framing said Player Character who she eventually tries to kill, she is an Expy of Dahlia Hawthorne. She even tries to manipulate Tsumugu into deeming her innocent at the end (and doing so means a bad ending, so she does lead him to his demise more than once)!
- Four Is Death: Subverted. The 'yo' in her name is spelt with this kanji, but it's not reflected anywhere. Played entirely straight, in fact, since she's a killer.
- Hidden Depths: Although it may seem like she makes friends easy (something Mirei points out), she mentions that in fact, she's introverted and has a hard time with it, while it may not look like that on the outside.
- She also killed Fumi and Nozaki.
- Hidden Disdain Reveal: She actually hates Tsumugu guts. While Tsumugu understood that she wanted to frame him for murder, the end of the game lets her tell him that she hated him for 'tainting' her brother.
- Nice Girl: Much like Tsumugu. She also actively seeks out the 'outcasts' and coerces them to go on clubs with people with the same interests. Or, this is what she seems to be like.
- Plucky Girl: Is this. Things go kinda downhill after The Reveal.
- Walking Spoiler: There is a vast abyss between who she seems to be like and who she really is. Let's just leave it at that...
An Elegant Gothic Lolita who is still waiting for her 'prince' to come around. Becomes Tsumugu's friend in chapter 3.
- Alliterative Name: Sally Sato. Subverted with her real name.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Light pink.
- Curtains Match the Window: Both her eyes and hair are pink, but her hair is a significantly lighter shade of it.
- Does Not Like Spam: Black coffee.
- Driven to Suicide: After she kills Hikone. She locks herself in the warehouse underneath the office which she knows will flood.
- Elegant Gothic Lolita: Dresses like this, but solely in white. In an alternate ending of chapter 8, she plays this trope more straightly.
- Foil: To Nozaki. While both of them suffered the same fate of being bullied by Rindo and Akira and changed their appearance (however, Nozaki did not change his name like she did), Nozaki actually became a bully and she decided to enact her 'justice' in a different way.
- Graceful Loser: Calmly admits that she killed, and loses none of it afterwards.
- Hidden Depths: Used to do bouldering and still can climb well. And she's also a killer.
- Light Is Not Good: Killed Akira while wearing a white lacy dress.
- Magic Plastic Surgery: Mentions that she underwent this.
- Meaningful Name: 'Ayumu' is taken from 'I walk alone'. There is a weird example of In-Universe Woolseyism going in that 'Sally' also sounds like 'Solely'; she seems to have applied this Woolseyism In-Universe to her own name.
- Ojou: Her family is mentioned to be rich.
- Red Herring: She only killed Akira, and for reasons totally unrelated to the Black Club. She did it because he filmed her getting bullied instead of doing anything to help her. The one who killed Fumi and Nozaki did have reasons that are very much related to the Black Club.
- She Cleans Up Nicely: The aforementioned alternate ending also shows she's quite the looker with short hair as well. Because that's her actual hairstyle.
A transfer student from Australia. Intimidates Tsumugu initially, but eventually becomes his friend.
- But Not Too Foreign: He is half Australian and not that good in Japanese initially. However, he becomes better.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Light blue.
- Does Not Like Spam: Shiitake mushrooms.
- Face of a Thug: The reason why he intimidated Tsumugu was because of this.
A Dude Looks Like a Lady who is also a Phoneaholic Teenager. Has many social connections.
- A House Divided: Starts accusing Suguha out of the blue after Fumi dies, completely loses it when a thin wire is found in her bag. It is hinted that he does that because he's scared.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Bright blue.
- Does Not Like Spam: Udon noodles in broth.
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Is always addressed as being this.
- Phoneaholic Teenager: Is this, and is very surprised once he finds out that Tsumugu has only games on his phone. Also, all his sprites feature him holding his phone.
The leader of the travel club.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Green.
- Does Not Like Spam: Raw eggs.
- Only Sane Man: At times. He thinks underage drinking is a bad idea. He becomes dangerous and deranged like a zombie when drunk, and since he Can't Hold His Liquor, he is trying hard to stay away from any alcoholic drink.
A member of the travel club. The second victim.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Fuchsia.
- Does Not Like Spam: Pancakes.
- Manipulative Bastard: Worse than Hayashi. Her manipulative abilities reached so far that she was able to convince rape victims into becoming assailants.
- Nice Girl: Why her death hits harder than Nozaki's. However, it is later subverted as it turns out she was a leader of a club that participated in gang rape.
- Walking Spoiler: If we told anything more about her, we'd spoiler a large secret this game holds.
A girl with a delinquent vibe around her. Also a member of the travel club.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Dark grey, leaning to black.
- Frame-Up: Someone put the wire Fumi was killed with in her bag, framing her. It was Sally who did so.
- It turns out that she did pick up the wire after it fell, but Sally was the one to put it in her bag.
- Precision F-Strike: The only character to do this.
- Red Herring: Has a motive to kill the members of the Black Club (they were responsible for the crimes against her best friend Momoka), and she is smart enough to do it. However, she is not the killer.
A member of the travel club. He is the first victim.
- All of the Other Reindeer: Used to be bullied by Hayashi when he still had the posture his sister had. The reason why he is so harsh on his sister is that he wants to spare her more pain. It is later persumed that he was on the giving end as well.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Brown.
- Does Not Like Spam: Ramen noodles in salty broth.
- Glass Cannon: Good in hitting, terrible at taking hits. It is why Tsumugu assumes that he was a bully himself.
- He Who Fights Monsters: Was bullied, became a bully.
- Playing Possum: Pranked Kotoko by lying face down on the ground, with the blood of his nosebleed next to him. When he's encountered lying face down again, Kotoko and Tsumugu are sure not to fall for it again. Except it isn't a prank this time, although he did prepare for it to be a prank.
- Plot-Triggering Death: His death sets up the second arc.
- Walking Spoiler: It is hard to talk about him without either spoiling his past or his future.
A member of the travel club who is usually seen around Nozaki. The third victim.
- Bystander Syndrome: Played for Drama. While he says to have never raped anyone, he was still very much a member of the club who did nothing to help the victims. He simply doesn't feel like he's anything else than a 'watcher'. This manifests itself into him not helping when Nozaki (his friend) is being bullied in front of him.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Dark green. It's darker than Yoshimoto's.
- Does Not Like Spam: Chicken.
- Heroic BSoD: Nozaki's death hits him HARD. He spends a good half of chapter 10 crying.
- Hiding Behind Your Bangs: He has his left eye covered (in a similar fashion as Matt Engarde), to give him a more introverted air.
- Tampering with Food and Drink: Dies as a result of someone poisoning the juice he was drinking.
The Mystery Club
The leader of the Mystery Club. Likes reading detectives and watching crime movies.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Wine red.
- Does Not Like Spam: Pears.
- Even the Girls Want Her: Kotoko called her hot during the chapters she's first seen. She is compared to an actress.
- Meaningful Name: A daimon is a guiding spirit. She essentially gives Tsumugu direction and guides him as to become a member of the mystery club and to write.
- Western Zodiac: An archetypical Scorpio: Mysterious, beautiful, and likes intricate schemes.
A member of the Mystery Club. Is a mother's boy.
- Chekhov's Skill: His punishment for cheating in chapter 3 is that he had to do volunteering work. This proves to be valuable to Tsumugu, as he knows that Perfect World is not a governed organization.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Purple.
- Does Not Like Spam: Green peppers.
- Giver of Lame Names: Not him, but his parents. They didn't know what name to give so they used their family name as his first name.
- Hidden Depths: He's good in calligraphy. Hence why Tsumugu asks him to dictate his love letter to Kotoko.
- His calligraphy also ends up being a Chekhov's Skill, but in a more indirect way. As we know, he wrote the love letter to Kotoko, since Tsumugu asked him to do so, seeing his calligraphical skills. Tsumugu dictated the letter's contents, while Tsukasa wrote them. The true writer of the letter was kept secret by Tsumugu, and thus, Kotoko did not know of this. She, convinced it was Tsumugu's handwriting - another argument that she was not as close with him as Tsumugu was with her - imitated it on a suicide note that would be 'from' Tsumugu, in the case she managed to kill him. Needless to say, Tsukasa is very surprised to see an imitation of his handwriting on a forged suicide note.
Relatives
Kotoko's older brother. He is currently studying in Italy and is an old friend of Tsumugu's.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Yellow.
- Dead All Along: He died as a result of his extreme alcohol intolerance long before the plot kicks off. Kotoko has been posing as him to keep the illusion that he's still alive to Tsumugu.
- Does Not Like Spam: Crab brains.
- Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Kotoko always describes him as having this. It's unknown whether he really had this, though.
- Nom de Mom: His contact name is 'Yu Okino'. As in the family name of the person who died during the 'drinking party'.
- Out of Focus: Is never seen in person, his sprite only appears in flashbacks and he is mostly talked to over the phone. You also cannot set him on your home screen, whereas that is possible with everyone else. This is all likely caused by the fact that he's out of the country. In reality, this is caused by the fact that he's dead.
- Shared Family Quirks: His sprite is shown with clasped hands, like some sprites of Kotoko are (especially when she is pleased), except he is directly facing the player in contrast to Kotoko who's at a 3/4th angle. Upon preparing for burial, they make it so that corpses have their hands clasped in this exact manner.
The twin brother of Sosei. A famous actor.
- Ambiguous Disorder: May or may not have a post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of almost killing Sosei. He faints after being given a knife.
- Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Bright red. It's the color of his eyes.
- Does Not Like Spam: Croissants.
- The Gadfly: He pulls the Twin Switch twice and he likes toying with Tsumugu in general (in contrast to Sosei, who is after the prologue, always serious with Tsumugu).
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Sosei's blue. This is also represented visually: Koyo's name tag is red, Sosei's is dark blue.
- Twin Switch: Pulls this twice with Tsumugu.
The younger sister of Yuu Nozaki. Dresses like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.
- All of the Other Reindeer: Has a bullying history.
- Does Not Like Spam: Tofu.
- Ironic Name: Her brother introduces her having it, as 'Mirei' means 'beauty' and he sees her as ugly.
- Hidden Depths: She's very good in singing.
- Shrinking Violet: At first, but she opened up to the members of the Make Friends-club (however, they fake their kind behavior to her). In the true ending, she stops being this.
Wakawa House
The keeper of Wakawa house. A middle-aged woman.
- Does Not Like Spam: Subverted. Her files state she doesn't dislike any kind of food.
A mysterious inhabitant of Wakawa house who's never seen. Keeps medaka rice fish.
- Does Not Like Spam: Rooibos tea.
- Hikikomori: Played with. In the prologue, it is asked if he is one but this is denied. In the following chapters he is named one anyway.
- Meaningful Name: 'Kage' can be read as 'shadow'.
- The Unreveal: When Tsumugu thinks he's going to find out what he looks like, he only shows his hand.
Others
The leader of the Make Friends-club. He is also Rindo, the bully of Yu Nozaki.
- Affably Evil: He's certainly evil, but he's not mean.
- All of the Other Reindeer: Is still a bully through and through. More specifically, he used to bully Nozaki.
- Does Not Like Spam: Bean sprouts.
- Wake-Up Call Boss: Later implied to be this. Akira says that he's nothing compared to Fumi.
Two old friends of Tsumugu.
- Big Damn Heroes: They pull this in chapter 6 if you invite them to the party at the start of the chapter. Hayashi was not aware that the leader of Djebel was Suzuki.
- Does Not Like Spam: Tokio dislikes kiwifruit, and Suzuki dislikes any kind of meat.
- Freaky Fashion, Mild Mind: Despite Suzuki dressing like a gangster, colored hair and piercings and all, he's not at all someone menacing. Even his thin mangly figure is caused by him simply practicing a lot of yoga. And judging by his disliked food, he also seems to be a vegetarian.
