The original Class VII, alongside Towa, Angelica, and George.

In the year S.1204, a group of nine students from the incoming first-years of Thors Military Academy were chosen to participate in a special program known as Class VII, who serve as the main cast of Trails of Cold Steel I and II. Sponsored by Olivert Reise Arnor, they're unique in that, unlike their peers segregated based on social class, Class VII draws its members from both the nobility and commoners alike. They also undergo special Field Studies once a month, splitting into two groups which visit various parts of the Empire. Later on during the year two more students, Crow Armbrust and Millium Orion, would end up joining the class.

In March S.1205 the class is formally disbanded as most of its original members graduate from school in order to pursue their respective dreams and goals.

In General:

  • Action Girlfriend: All of the women in the original Class VII, barring Millium, can be romanced by Rean, making them this should the player go through with it.
  • Badass Crew: As noted in Fire-Forged Friends, they all initially didn't get along but did so over time. As a result, they truly end up becoming a group of the finest that Erebonia has to offer.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In Cold Steel III, almost every single one of their entrances into the story involve them helping Rean and his students from New Class VII out from a dire situation.
  • Class Reunion: After parting ways at the end of Cold Steel II, members of the group sporadically appear throughout the story of Cold Steel III in order to help out Rean and his students. It's not until Chapter 4 that they all finally have a formal reunion with each other.
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: At the end of Cold Steel II, their time as Class VII finally comes to and end as everyone barring Rean graduate from Thors and they all go their separate ways with each member wanting to pursue their own personal goals. However, this doesn't stop the group from helping each other out when they need it, and come Cold Steel III they're all able to reunite with each other once more.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Quite a bit of them do not get along when they first met with each other. Thanks to their experiences in their field studies, as well as understanding classmates, they start getting along.
  • The Friends Who Never Hang: Thanks to the game taking place primarily from Rean's point of view, players will rarely see members of Class VII actually hanging out with each other outside of story-related scenes. To specify a bit:
    • Aside from Millium with Jusis, the girls are scarcely seen hanging out with the non-Rean guys.
    • On an individual level, both Crow and Sara have it especially bad; outside of Rean, both only have one Class VII member they are shown having a decent amount of interaction with.note
    • Finally, the group isn't shown hanging out with the New Class VII all that much, barring Millium with Altina.
  • Generation Xerox: A man and his mecha, alongside his allies from Nord, and a resident of Legram fought their way to Heimdallr and ended a civil war consuming the nation. Now are we talking about Rean, Gaius, Laura, and the rest of Class VII during Cold Steel II or Dreichels, the seventeen Nords, and Lianne Sandlot?
  • Graduate from the Story: The climax of Cold Steel II has all of Class VII sans Rean graduate from Thors to pursue their own paths.
  • The Greatest Story Never Told: Assisting in driving out the Imperial Liberation Front at Garrelia Fortress was not known to the public for it would have given the population unrest that terrorists were able to get into the most guarded military in all of Erebonia. Of course it becomes a moot point when Garrelia Fortress is wiped out over two months later.
  • Hero of Another Story: Anybody who wasn't with Rean during their field studies gets their chance to shine in a different region.
  • I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: Seeing the other Rean in the final dungeon of Reverie makes them cry but they don't understand why. Lloyd explains that the Rean they see is another possibility of Rean since in another timeline, the SSS died without KeA's help.
  • Interclass Friendship: They were gathered from various social classes as part of Prince Olivert's way to ease the class conflict that plagues Erebonia. While the group had a rocky start they all eventually become great friends who would risk life and limb for one another.
  • Internal Reformist: Olivert founded the class in the hopes of them becoming this to help reform the Empire. Come Cold Steel III several of them have gained positions to assist in this in their own ways, from Jusis becoming the new Duke of Kreuzen, Alisa as a General Manager in her family's company, and Machias in the Government Accountability Inspectorate.
  • Legendary in the Sequel: By Cold Steel III, Class VII in general is this to an extent thanks to their actions during the Erebonian Civil War. In particular, Rean has become a war hero who is internationally famous, Alisa has made a name for herself as the young heiress of Reinford who leads its 4th Development Division, and Elliot has become a renowned musician where both nobles and commoners alike clamor just to hear him play.
  • Leitmotif: The aptly-named "Class VII" from Cold Steel I and "Forward, Relentlessly" from Cold Steel II.
  • Little Hero, Big War: While Class VII was responsible for liberating a few towns, the vast majority of the war is fought between the Imperial Army and the Noble Alliance. Most of the action also happened to be take place in Western Erebonia.
  • Magical Girl: One of the DLC costumes of the girls have them wear these with the exceptions of Sara and Fie who are wearing kunoichi costumes instead.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: All of them have various personal alterations to their school uniforms making them stand out from the rest of the students even more than their different color does already.
  • Older and Wiser: Come Cold Steel III and all of them definitely wised up compared to when they were still students.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: All of them are from different backgrounds and walks of life from aristocrat nobles to everyday commoners. This was something Olivert deliberately invoked, believing that the various backgrounds of each member would do well to help widen their respective views of the world and beliefs.
  • Red Is Heroic: During their days as students at Thors Military Academy they're distinguished from the rest of their peers by their bright red uniforms.
  • Required Party Member: During certain sections in the story and fights, a member of Class VII is required to participate in the main line-up. Though there's nothing preventing you from immediately swapping them out for someone in your reserve party if you prefer once their turn comes up.
  • School Forced Us Together: They are part of an system created by Olivert where individuals from various backgrounds and social classes are forcefully integrated.
  • Secret-Keeper: Thanks to them being present when it was revealed, all of them know that Rean's biological father is none other than Chancellor Osborne himself.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Laura and Fie are the Tomboys to Alisa, Emma, and Millium's Girly Girls.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Come Cold Steel III all of them are now significantly more powerful and competent than they were in the first two games. Laura, Emma, and Gaius in particular are able to hold off both Arianrhod and Demon McBurn, two of the strongest fighters in Ouroboros, at the same time. Alisa is able to fend off Sharon and Azure Siegfried with her Orbal Gear, Sara and Fie can take on Rutger (the strongest Jaeger on the continent) and Shirley (whom Fie noted as being stronger than her before), and Jusis squares off against Rufus (who had delivered a Curb-Stomp Battle to the non-Rean members back in II).
  • True Companions: Hard to argue that, by the end of Cold Steel, they are as close as family. By the third game, they'll accompany Rean to the ends of Zemuria and not even the government will stop them.
