Protagonists

    Alice (Spoilers
The protagonist of The Well Speaks To Me. She is a girl living in a cabin in the woods. She supposedly lost her family in an accident, and spends her days doing her chores.
  • Ambiguously Human: Although Alice appears human originally, several of the faces she makes simply don't look human. Possibly a clue about how she isn't the real Alice.
  • Big Bad: Of The Well Speaks To Me, as the reason she's stuck in the forest is that she murdered her family. Or rather the skinwalker taking over her.
  • Dead All Along: It's implied Alice was killed alongside her family, and the one in the game is a skinwalker taking over her.
  • Driven to Suicide: In the end, she throws herself down the well to relieve the pain of her never-ending Horror Hunger for human flesh. However the ending implies it was a case of Better to Die than Be Killed, as she seems to be aware Jesse is about to come to the house.
  • Easy Impersonation: Averted with the skinwalker taking over Alice, who doesn't act like Alice at all, especially as days pass.
  • Evil All Along: A protagonist example, as she's later revealed to be a Villain Protagonist.
  • Hates Their Parent: While not apparent originally, it's later revealed Alice despised her mother and she even killed her. She even claims she's happy she's "gone", believes she deserved death, and hopes she's rotting in hell.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: It's indicated by some lines that Alice has a taste for human flesh, and may have killed her family to eat them.
  • Nightmare Face: She should see a doctor about some of the... distorted faces she makes...
  • Psycho Pink: Alice has killed many people, has hot pink eyes, and is unstable (especially by the end).
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: A downplayed variant. Alice's eyes are hot pinknote  and she's a Villain Protagonist who killed many people, including her family. Probably to indicate something is wrong with her or how she isn't the real Alice.
  • Red Is Violent: Her outfit incorporates some red (which is shown when she's committing suicide). She's also committed familicide and many other murders.
  • Sadist: In some of her lines, she reminisces about her murders while smiling. She also seems entertained by a Gorn-ish part of a book, stating it was "getting good".
  • Sanity Slippage: She was presumably already unstable given her murder of her family, but could at least act like a normal girl. As the game goes on and the forest becomes more distorted, her violent nature surfaces more and more until, by the end, she's a screaming maniac.
  • Serial Killer: She murdered her family, then would pick off anyone who entered her cabin by whatever means she had handy, like drowning or stabbing.
  • Villain Protagonist: She killed her family in the past and buried them in her cabin home, and feels no remorse for it.
  • Walking Spoiler: Hardly anything can be mentioned about her without spoiling the fact she's a murderous Villain Protagonist. Or how she was taken over by a skinwalker.

    Carrie
The protagonist of They Watch From The Walls. She is a little girl in a witch costume who is invited by Mr. Pumpkin to visit his haunted house attraction.
  • Cute Witch: She dresses as a cute witch for Halloween, when the game takes place.

    Dr. Jesse Thornheart
The protagonist of Like Veins Beneath The Town. He is a Chastiser investigating the Forest and the many missing person cases tied to it. He has a mysterious and dark past, and wants to atone for it by throwing himself into danger.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In the good ending of TWFTW, he stabs Mr. Pumpkin in the back just as he has Carrie in a cage and gloats about selling her off.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He has one that has left him with guilt. It is unclear what it is, but it has something to do with being experimented on by doctors.
  • Hero Protagonist: Jesse Thornheart is the central hero of the series as he's the investigator tackling the disappearances within the forest. He's also the main character of Like Veins Beneath The Town.

Demonic Forces

    Mr. Pumpkin/The Pumpkin Man
The antagonist of They Watch From The Walls. He is a scarecrow demon with a pumpkin head who owns a haunted house and invites kids to brave it, with Carrie being the latest.
  • Big Bad: Of They Watch From The Walls. He lures Carrie into his haunted house, trapping her inside, so he can play sadistic games with her and sell her and the other kids.
  • Human Traffickers: He kidnaps children and sells them to people, presumably pedophiles. While he does this year-round, he loves Halloween as it allows him to invite children to his haunted house as a cover.
  • Pumpkin Person: A Scary Scarecrow with a pumpkin for a head. Though it is unclear if that really is his head or a mask he wears.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: He takes pride in acting like a child, “befriending” children, and hating adults.
  • Scary Scarecrows: He is some kind of scarecrow demon who owns a haunted house and abducts children to sell them.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He is a child trafficker who lures children to his haunted house, forces them to play his Deadly Game, brutally disembowels ‘cheaters’, and sells the winners off to pedophiles.

    Mr. Pumpkin's Assistant
A strange woman who serves Mr. Pumpkin.
  • Affably Evil: She is very polite to Carrie despite being the assistant to a child-kidnapping demon, informing her of the rules of the game and never personally interfering.
  • Ambiguously Human: She looks human at first glance, but her body does impossible things for a human, like her face becoming a giant hole or her neck elongating.
  • The Dragon: She serves the Big Bad, Mr. Pumpkin, and helps run his haunted house game.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In the good ending, Mr. Pumpkin is killed, but it is never shown what happens to his assistant.

    The Suturer
The antagonist of Like Veins Beneath The Town. He is a tall humanoid demon who abducts the women of Ishinakku Village and slaughters them, turning them into twisted works of art.
  • Big Bad: Of Like Veins Beneath The Town. He is the monster kidnapping women and dragging them underneath Ishinakku Village to turn them into dolls.
  • Demon of Human Origin: He explains that he grew tired of his human form and slowly turned himself into one of the forest demons, replacing his skin with that of his victims.
  • Living Doll Collector: He abducts women of Ishinakku Village and turns them into dolls. Specifically, he sticks magical demon vines in their bodies and puts them in his lair, while taking off a body part so he can create his own “girlfriend” with them.
  • Mad Artist: He considers his mutilations and dollification of women to be a sort of art, as he tells Jesse.
  • Off with His Head!: Jesse kills him by slicing off his head.
  • The Quisling: Turns out he is a human who worships the demons and wants to become one of them, so he brings them regular sacrifices in hopes he can ascend to demonhood.
  • Sadist: Widely smiles while murdering Jesse.
  • Serial Killer: He regularly kidnaps women, dragging them under the grates in the village, and smashes them against rocks, bludgeoning them to death and tearing them apart. He then takes body parts to make a doll and attach some to himself.
  • Slasher Smile: He has a perpetual wicked grin in both his overworld sprite and character portrait, and it especially shows if Jesse loses the battle against him, wherein he punches a hole in his body while smiling disturbingly wide.
