Protagonists

    In General

    Her Heart

Her Heart

A young Zaraden woman and the titular protagonist in the game, she uses the power of her heart to love and befriend the monsters.
  • Boring, but Practical: Doesn't have any real gimmick and her shot type is rather basic, but she has good starting health and said shot type is consistently useful, unlike the conditions that feathers and stars have.
  • Jack of All Stats: Has no major weaknesses, but no major upsides either.
  • Light 'em Up: Her only attacks at the start are radiant-elemental.
  • Protagonist Title

    Defect

Defect

A Zaraden who her own appearance seems to be a bit off.
  • Moveset Clone: Has the same shot type as Her Heart, with her having less health (but having it heal after every battle) and void-elemental uncharged attacks.
  • Regenerating Health: Starts with the Adamant Will gift, greatly healing her after every battle. This helps offset her low starting HP somewhat.

    Twin Heart

Twin Heart

A pair of Zaraden sisters.
  • Assist Character: Start with a helper from the get go that begins firing after taking damage.
  • Close-Range Combatant: By virtue of starting with feather shots. Their charged attack has range to it, however, and their helper averts this entirely.
  • Counter-Attack: In a sense. Their starting helper has long range and fires quickly, but will only start firing after taking damage for the first time in a battle.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Have feather shots to start, with the pros and cons that entails. Played right they have incredible DPS, but at great risk.

    The Devil

The Devil

A feisty Zaraden who's eager to fight.
  • Gathering Steam: Her shots gain in attack speed and bullet count as she doesn't move, but she loses this bonus by moving.
  • Mighty Glacier: In a sense. Her speed is the same as everyone else's, but her starting loadout encourages her not to move too much.
  • Playing with Fire: Her uncharged bullets are burning-elemental.
  • Short Ranged Shotgun: Downplayed. Her spread shot charged attack has full-screen range, but it is much more effective if all the stars hit.
  • Spread Shot: Her charged attack. It gains more bullets the more star gauge you have.

Alter Protagonists

    In General

    Alter Heart

Alter Heart

A forgetful painter.
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: If you play as her, the gifts are hidden even if you've radiated them. This also applies to the gifts at Solara's store, and is the only way to have hidden gifts there (she only sells radiated gifts).

    Alter Defect

Alter Defect

  • Difficult, but Awesome: Her shot type is feather shots, but they're weaker than Twin Heart's, and they have an even worse range. Her only ranged attacks are her crappy charge shot and a single Blue Veyeral helper, but you don't want to rely on those because her HP continuously drains, so taking too long can be a severe detriment and even make you a One-Hit-Point Wonder until you gain health somehow. You do get some HP back for getting long enough combos, but this effectively means you're doubly penalized for getting hit (not only do you lose HP, but you heal less from combos). However, if you are good enough to take advantage of the feather shots' still-impressive damage and get some full combos (which grants additional Blue Veyeral helpers), the HP drain is negligible for a lot of battles, and Alter Defect becomes one of the best characters.
  • Glass Cannon: Her feather shots deal decent damage, but her HP drain mechanic makes her quite vulnerable during long fights, and even outside of that context she gets penalized twice for getting hit (in addition to the normal damage, getting hit decreases the total amount of combo-based healing she gets on that fight).
  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: She suffers from a constant HP drain (though it can't kill her on its own), but getting long enough combos will let her gain it back.

    Alter Twin

Alter Twin

  • Mechanically Unusual Fighter: She's the only character who can't fire normal shots. She also has an unusual Charge Attack with a very long charge time that fires a piercing laser whose duration depends on how many helpers you have.

Others

    Solara

Solara

The shop keeper in the Endless Nightmare mode.
  • Friendly Shopkeeper: In the Endless Stress mode, she can be summoned to visit her shop, where she will be glad to help you by selling you gifts in exchange for karma.
  • Third-Person Person: She talks about herself in the third person.
