Trixie Glimmer Smith
- Ambiguous Disorder: Trixie's short attention span seems indicative of ADHD, and she's likely depressed too, and this is before finding The King in Yellow.
- Big Eater: Trixie has a serious sweet tooth and a tendency to blow through snacks fast.
- Sanity Slippage: Trixie’s already tenuous grasp on reality starts to fade as she interacts with the book. There’s no visible measurement of her sanity, just the effects on the interface.
- The Slacker: Why Trixie owed Nikita a favor in the first place; she has a tendency to spend hours watching sheep meme videos or writing saucy fanfiction instead of doing schoolwork.
Nikita
Nikita Perovskia
- Academic Alpha Bitch: Her student president campaign posters have a distinctly fascistic bent.
- Celibate Eccentric Genius: When Tabby describes herself, Trixie and Nikita as lesbians, Nikita insists that she is an academic. After Tabby points out that one can be both, Nikita amends her self-description to "academic with lesbian characteristics."
- Expy: Seems to be at least partially one of Mr. Wilde from "The Repairer of Reputations", one of the stories in the original collection of The King in Yellow. An ambitious blackmailer and would-be fascist dictator (albeit of a university rather than a world superpower), with Trixie playing the part of Hildred Castaigne from the same story although it's Nikita who becomes convinced she's the heir to a lost dynasty from the Hyades.
- Genius Sweet Tooth: She loves Toffee Millet bars.
- Insufferable Genius: Nikita has saved Trixie from flunking out of uni more than once, and lords it over her. She also likes to point out how much smarter and more accomplished she is.
- Minored In Ass Kicking: The large nick in her ear is a result of "establishing library dominance." Also, in one ending of Three Lesbians in a Barrow, she is forced to defend herself from the immortal warlock, Everrot Timedust. She reduces him to dust.
- Shorter Means Smarter: Notably shorter than Trixie, and much more successful academically.
Tabby
Tabitha "Tabby" Knight
- Ascended Extra: After being The Ghost in Testimony, Tabby is the main protagonist in Three Lesbians in a Barrow.
- Goth Girls Know Magic: Zig-zagged; Tabby dresses in black and is a witch, though the only spell she casts is the banishing ritual for Everrot, which doesn't necessarily work.
