Not-Velma
What happens if you take Velma Dinkley from the Scooby-Doo franchise and turn her into a massively self-absorbed Jerkass? You get this Velma, who not only acts like a complete jerk to everyone else, but also would get other contestants killed if she could to get ahead in the game.
- Adaptational Villainy: While Not-Velma in her show wasn't a saint, there were people she cared about and her desire to stop the killers roaming the town, even if her motivations were self-centered, painted her in something of a heroic light. Here, she needlessly antagonizes everyone she's stuck with and either deliberately gets people killed or murders them herself for her own selfish desires.
- Can't Take Criticism: In her Motive Rant to Mae, she calls the people who criticized her show 'haters' and 'basement-dwelling morons' who couldn't see how amazing her show was.
- Depraved Bisexual: A bisexual woman who acts callously towards everyone else that's participating in the Squid Games.
- Even Evil Has Standards: She, along with the rest of the contestants, is disgusted that the people running the Squid Games chose them specifically because they want them all dead for being part of the LGBT community.
- Hated by All: No one seems to tolerate her at all; The Prayer Warriors, the ones running the Squid Games, want her dead because they're a group of Heteronormative Crusaders who think that LGBT people are sinful, and the other contestants can't stand her as she either insults and belittles them at every opportunity, or tries to get them killed. Even the narration calls her detestable when it introduces her. She no doubt would have been left to fend for herself if the episode she debuted in had featured a traditional Arena, if not outright killed at the start.
- Hijacking Cthulhu: She manages to take the powers of the 'evil cosmic monster' that the Prayer Warriors were worshiping to all for herself. Somehow.
- In Name Only: She acts so little like how Velma is normally characterized as that she is given the mocking honorific of 'Not-' right before her name.
- It's All About Me: Even though she feels that she got everything she wanted after reuniting with her mother, she still feels that she deserves the wish the most, enough to screw over the rest of the contestants when they try to escape, simply because people didn't like her show.
- Jerkass: She just loves to throw insults at everyone around her at any opportunity she can, even when they've done nothing to her.
- Kick the Dog: In addition to all the insults she dishes out, she also makes an offensive comment towards the trans woman Bridget when she tries to raise their team's spirits:
- Bridget: Don’t worry guys! If we stick together, there’s nothing we can't do!
Not-Velma: That afterschool shit isn't going to save you when you're getting your fake-girl ass handed to you.
- Lack of Empathy: When she punches Luz to steal her honeycomb, it causes Luz to accidentally crush one of Calypso's honeycombs, making her fail too. As the guards train their guns on them, Not-Velma tells them to "Hate the game. Not the players." before they're disintegrated.
- Medium Awareness: She is unthreatened by the Rahkshi, calling them a bunch of dumb toys from the 2000s. And she wants to use the wish to make everyone else realize how 'amazing' her show is.
- One-Winged Angel: After taking powers of the cosmic monster, she transforms into a Cthulhu-esque creature, with her upper torso being the only thing left that resembles her old self.
- Take That!: She's basically an entire one against her own show.
- Team Killer: She gets two of her teammates killed, though in one case it was out of her hands:
- In the Honeycomb game, she steals Luz's honeycomb for her own, getting her killed by the guards for failing the game.
- And in the Tug of War game, she and Bridget are placed in different groups holding the opposite ends of the rope, with the losers being sent plummeting to their deaths. As Not-Velma's side wins the game, she's partially responsible for Bridget's death.
- Token Evil Teammate: She is the only evil member of her team. And following Sylvia's death early into the episode, she becomes this for every contestant remaining in the episode.
- Unsportsmanlike Gloating: After making it to the end of the Red Light, Green Light game, she celebrates by twerking at the remaining contestants who haven't made it to the finish line yet, which she gets called out on for.
