    Rachel Lang

Rachel Lang

Played by: Emily Bergl
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2rachel.jpg
A high school outcast who has been bounced around the foster care system after her mother was institutionalized. Like her half-sister Carrie White, she possesses Psychic Powers and uses them to take revenge against bullies — in this case, the Jerk Jocks who drove her best friend Lisa to suicide.
  • Abusive Parents: While not as bad as Margaret White, Rachel's foster parents are very neglectful and are depicted as Lower Class Louts, and her father has no problem hitting her. In an early scene, it's stated that the only reason they raise her is to get $300 per month from the foster care system.
  • Badass Adorable: Rachel is an attractive, cute-looking goth girl, and has terrifyingly psychic powers that can cause mass destruction, like Carrie did.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She has her moments, especially when it comes to the "legend" of Carrie White.
Supposedly, she set the fire as some sort of revenge-suicide thing, Elvis was her date and they escaped in a UFO.
  • Goth: She's fond of dark make-up and has a thorny rose tattoo as an indicator. Notably when she shops at a lipstick counter, the salesclerk watches her carefully.
  • Goth Girls Know Magic: Or at least have psychic powers. Notably, this is the polar opposite of how Carrie was portrayed.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: She grew up with her basset hound, Walter, and is devastated by his Near-Death Experience. After Rachel dies, Jesse adopts him in her place.
  • Loners Are Freaks: Lisa and Artie appear to be her only friends, and she's seen as a freak by the other students.
  • Long Lost Sibling: To Carrie White in this continuity.
  • Marked Change: After she goes berserk, her tattoo of a thorny rose starts spreading itself all over her body, causing her to look as though she is covered in vines.
  • Psychic Powers: She inherited them from her father, Ralph White.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After a sex tape of her and Jesse is played at a party, she snaps and kills everyone there.
  • Sorry, I'm Gay: Subverted. She claims she's a lesbian in order to stop a classmate from hitting on her.

    Barbara Lang

Barbara Lang

Played by: J. Smith-Cameron
Rachel's biological mother who is diagnosed with schizophrenia and committed to a mental hospital.
  • Abusive Mom: She's not as bad as Margaret was, but her schizophrenia made her mentally unfit to raise her daughter, Rachel, and is forced to separate from her.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: She briefly reunites with her daughter during her rampage, only to be confused and run away from the burning building.

    Lisa Parker

Lisa Parker

Played by: Mena Suvari
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2lisa.jpg
Rachel's best friend. At the start of the film, she throws herself from the roof of the school after finding out that her boyfriend Eric, whom she gave her virginity, was only dating her for sex in order to score literal points with his buddies.
  • Death Is Dramatic: Invoked. She kills herself in the middle of the school day in order to get the most attention. Naturally, her death drives much of the plot.
  • Driven to Suicide: When Eric rejects her, she jumps off the roof.
  • Goth: Much like Rachel, she wears baggy clothing and dark make-up to identify herself as such.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Her suicide in the first act is essentially what causes Rachel to start losing control of her powers and what sparks the rest of the film's events.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: We never get to know much about her besides her status as Rachel's best friend and one of Eric's sexual conquests.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: The cause of her suicide. She thought Eric actually liked her, only to learn that it was just for the game. Her suicide note sums this up.

    Jesse Ryan

Jesse Ryan

Played by: Jason London
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2jesse.jpg
A member of the Bates High School Bulldogs football team. He is highly uncomfortable with his teammates' contest, known as the Game, in which they hook up with girls and score points depending on how hot the girl was, how far the two went, and other variables, and feels pressured into it by them. He strikes up a relationship with Rachel, only for it to be disastrously derailed when she finds out about the Game.
  • Expy: He seems to be a combination with Tommy and Sue.
  • Final Guy: The only notable survivor of Rachel's rampage.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: The burn scar he gets on his arm during Rachel's rampage is one that can easily be concealed under a sleeve, making it an example of the good kind.
  • Lovable Jock: He's pretty much the only decent person on the football team.
  • Peer Pressure Makes You Evil: Arguably subverted. It's implied that he sleeps with Rachel because he honestly loves her as opposed to trying to score points for The Game. The verification for this comes just in time to keep Rachel from ending him.
    • Although it's also implied it's a big factor as to why he's dating Alpha Bitch Tracy.
  • Pet the Dog: Literally. In the final scene, he's adopted Rachel's dog.
  • Token Good Teammate: To the football team.
  • You Are Worth Hell: Even when he catches fire and is clearly in pain, he still refuses to leave until he frees Rachel from beneath the debris in the midst of the inferno. At least, he would have if his actions didn't prove to Rachel that he does genuinely love her, and she uses her powers to telekinetically push him outside the house before it collapses on her.

    Mark Bing

Mark Bing

Played by: Dylan Bruno
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2mark.jpg
The Jerk Jock starter of the football team, and the one most committed to the Game. Feeling that the integrity of the team is on the line, he orchestrates a plan to humiliate Rachel after her best friend Lisa kills herself due to his teammate Eric's actions, so as to prevent her from going to the police and spilling the beans as to what they had done.
  • Asshole Victim: Humiliates Rachel just so she won't squeal on his best friend for statutory rape, even after his friend has all the charges against him dropped. When she snaps, he and his friends try to kill her, making him more unsympathetic when she drowns him.
  • Big Bad: He's the most committed to the game, and masterminds the plan to humiliate Rachel.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Like Chris with Carrie, he leads a group that ends up pulling a vicious prank on a telekinetic girl while being within reach of her powers, and ends up wrapped up in a pool tarp, and sunk into the pool.
  • Expy: He's basically Billy if Billy was the main perpetrator of the prank instead of Chris, and also if Billy was a jock.
  • Jerkass: He's a Jerk Jock that set up a disgusting game where his friends sleep with girls for points. The entire prank at his party was also his idea.
  • Lack of Empathy: He can't be bothered to care about Lisa's death, feeling that the Game is more important than a classmate's life.
  • Villainous Valor: As everyone else is fleeing or being killed, he does stay, getting Eric and Monica to break out some guns with him to try and face Rachel and stop her rampage, which would be a lot less morally ambiguous if it wasn't their fault that Rachel was on that rampage in the first place.

    Sue Snell

Sue Snell

Played by: Amy Irving

See "Characters from the book and the film adaptations".

    Eric Stark

Eric Stark

Played by: Zachery Ty Bryan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2eric.jpg
The football player who inadvertently drove Lisa to suicide by taking her virginity and then breaking up with her. Fearing for his future, he teams up with his teammate Mark to prevent Rachel from spilling all the details to the police.
  • Asshole Victim: Is let off the hook for statutory rape and joins in tormenting Rachel with his friends just to punish her for trying to make him suffer the consequences of his own actions.
  • The Dragon: He's Mark's main crony and fellow bully and pusher of The Game.
  • Groin Attack: A blinded and dying Monica accidentally fires her spear gun into Eric's crotch, ripping his balls off and sending them into the pool.
  • Jerk Jock: On top of playing the Game with his teammates, he also plays very dirty on the field, badly wounding a member of the opposing team during the big game.
  • Karmic Death: Dies from the shock of being castrated, which is very fitting considering Lisa's death (and therefore the entire plot) would've been avoided if he had kept it in his pants.
  • Kick the Dog: He gives the sheriff a mocking salute when his father gets him off the hook for Lisa's suicide. He later makes fun of Lisa's death to Rachel's face, saying he "just about split her in two."
  • My God, What Have I Done?: His reaction to Lisa's death, though it's mostly out of fear that he'd piss off his father and lose his shot at a football scholarship. His behavior at the party makes it clear that he doesn't care once he's off the hook.
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction when the sheriff holds up to him the picture of him and Lisa together.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: He avoids any consequences over what happened to Lisa because his dad gives political contributions to the local D.A.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Was ready to attack Rachel with brass knuckles when he and the rest of the football team harass Rachel at her house, and is only stopped from doing so when Rachel uses her powers to drive them off.

    Tracy Campbell

Tracy Campbell

Played by: Charlotte Ayanna
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2tracy.jpg
Jesse's girlfriend, a member of the cheerleading squad, and the school's Alpha Bitch. She happily joins Mark's plan to humiliate Rachel, seeing her as trying to steal her boyfriend Jesse.
  • Alpha Bitch: The head cheerleader and one of the most beautiful and popular girls in the school, even Rachel doesn't deny it. She's also a massive bitch who doesn't care that Rachel's best friend killed herself and wants to ruin her reputation over a guy that dumped her.
  • Asshole Victim: While not as mean as Monica, she's still a horrible bully and set up Rachel to feel apart of the in-group just to humiliate her in the cruelest of ways.
  • Cruel Cheerleader: She is on the cheerleading team and is fairly self-centered and aloof.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The entire climax of the film is fueled by her petty jealousy of Jesse liking Rachel.
  • Lack of Empathy:
Jesse: Doesn't it bother you that some girl offed herself yesterday?
    Tracy: Why? She wasn't anybody.
    Jesse: What?
    Tracy: I mean, I didn't know her.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She gets a lingerie scene.
  • Oh, Crap!: Upon seeing the effects of Rachel's rampage, all she can do is look around in horror and make noises about getting out of there.
  • Too Dumb to Live: She would've been the only bully to live if she didn't go inside a burning house to check on her friends instead of just call the fire department like anyone else.
  • Woman Scorned: She goes along with the plan to humiliate Rachel because she thinks Jesse is cheating on her with Rachel.

    Monica Jones

Monica Jones

Played by: Rachel Blanchard
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2monica.jpg
Tracy's best friend whose going along with her participation in Mark's plan out of obligation to a friend.
  • Asshole Victim: Participated in humiliating an innocent girl and went as far as to fake an entire friendly persona just to lure her to the party, for no other reason than because Rachel is dating Tracy's ex-boyfriend. Thereby she's murdered in Rachel's rampage, and like everyone else at the party she pretty much deserved it.
  • Beta Bitch: She's Tracy's right hand girl. Deborah is this for her.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She pretends to be nice to Rachel just so she can help humiliate her.
  • Eye Scream: Rachel kills her by smashing her glasses and shoving the broken glass into her eyes. She dies fairly soon after, presumably from the shock.
  • False Friend: Befriends Rachel as a means of luring her into the football team's prank.
  • Faux Affably Evil: She appears to make friends with Rachel out of kindness, but she's only acting that way to take part in a humiliation.
  • Girl Posse: Part of Tracy's.
  • Glasses Are Sexy: She's one of the popular girls and shown as attractive because of her glasses.
  • Karmic Death: After Monica has the nerve to laugh and spit on Rachel, it's very cathartic when Rachel kills her by making her glasses explode.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: She pretends to be nice to Rachel in order to advance Mark's plan for revenge.
  • The Reveal: It's revealed she was in-on the prank at the party when she laughs at the video and she slut-shames Rachel.
  • Slut-Shaming: After the video of Rachel and Jesse having sex is displayed, The Reveal that Monica is a complete bitch is her calling Rachel a skank.
Monica: She should get extra points seeing as how she's so skanky.

    Brad Winters

Brad Winters

Played by: Justin Urich
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2brad.jpg
A Jerk Jock and Monica's boyfriend. He joins Mark's plan to humiliate Rachel.
  • Asshole Victim: Like most of the teens targeted by Rachel, he deserved the fate of being stabbed through head with a fire poker.
  • Bald of Evil: He shaved his head before the big game, so he was bald when terrorizing Rachel at the party.
  • The Dragon: To Mark.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Although he had fun harassing Rachel at her house, he tried to stop Eric from entering in to beat her with brass knuckles.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: He is killed this way when Rachel throws a fire poker, impaling him (and Sue) through the head.
  • Kick the Dog: During the massacre, he stomps on a dying girl and shoves some people out of his way.
Girl at party: Brad, you bastard!
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction when Rachel's heart tattoo starts beating like a real heart.

    Chuck Potter

Chuck Potter

Played by: Eli Craig
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2chuck.jpg
One of Mark and Eric's best friends.
  • Asshole Victim: He was the first to be killed by Rachel. And he fully deserved it.
  • Camera Fiend: He is seen carrying a video camera in some scenes.
  • Ironic Last Words: Earlier at the party, Chuck warns some partygoers not bust anything in the house or heads are gonna roll. Guess who ended up with the head rolled off.
  • Jerk Jock: ...like the rest of his group of friends (with Jesse being the only exception).
  • Karmic Death: When Lisa committed suicide, Chuck began recording her corpse. During the party massacre, he is decapitated by shattered glass, with his video camera recording everything.
  • Kick the Dog: He makes fun of Lisa's death to Rachel's face, saying how many points Eric would have got if he had sex with Lisa after she was dead.
  • Lack of Empathy: After Lisa committed suicide by jumping off the roof and landing on a car, the first thing Chuck does is recording her corpse while asking whose car it is.
  • Off with His Head!: He is killed this way after Rachel used her powers to explode the glass doors.

    Deborah

Deborah

Played by: Deborah Meschan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/therage2deborah.jpg
Deborah is one of Monica and Tracy's best friends, who catches a ride with Monica and Rachel to the party and even helps participate in the prank.
  • Asshole Victim: You probably get the point by now. She's barely in the film but in just her very short amount of screen time she is involved in the prank at the party and laughs with everyone else.
  • Beta Bitch: She's this to Monica, despite the fact that Monica is already this to Tracy. On the ride to Mark’s party Monica haughtily orders her to give her mascara and when the girls compliment each other all Monica tells her is to put on lipstick.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Initially she is sweet to Rachel, even commenting on how pretty she looks. She shows her true colors are the party.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Singled out at the party by Rachel and given arguably one of the most creatively wicked deaths in the film, being impaled by several flying CDs by Rachel’s TK powers.
  • The Dragon: To Monica. She laughs and mocks Rachel with the other bullies at the party while Monica herself hurls most of the insults at Rachel.
  • Evil Redhead: In the script, she is described as a cute redhead. In the film, it's brownish red.
  • False Friend: Befriends Rachel as a means of luring her into the football team's prank.
  • Girl Posse: Part of Tracy's.
  • Satellite Character: Has no character at all outside of being in Tracy’s Girl Posse.
