"Canon" Timeline Characters

    Mario
It’s-a him, Mario! The hero of the Mushroom Kingdom needs no introduction, but we’ll give you one anyway. Mario is a kindhearted Everyman with a stylin’ mustache and a strong sense of right and wrong. He’ll risk anything to protect his friends… even if that “friend” is a recent ex-girlfriend, who left him with a cracked heart and plenty of questions.
  • Combat Parkour: He’s Mario, what did you expect? His fight scenes are all filled with impressive flips and jumps, making use of the scenery and even the enemies themselves.
  • Heartbroken Badass: Mario is a downplayed example. It’s clear that his breakup with Peach is still a pretty sore spot for him, but he doesn’t spend too much time dwelling on it, nor does he let it stand in the way of his heroism.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Not only does Mario speak normally in this fic, but there’s no trace of his trademark accent anywhere to be seen. Word of God says he still has it, but it would have been silly to write all of his dialogue that way.
    Luigi
The younger, taller, and less reckless Mario twin. While his brother jumps right into action, Luigi prefers to look before he leaps, and make triple sure there’s no ghosts involved. He may not always be the bravest, but when it counts, he’s hardly a coward.
    Vivian
A sweet-hearted Shadow Siren who joined Mario in a previous adventure. She has feelings for him, and is glad for the chance to travel with him again... but something in this new world seems to want her gone, and soon she may have to face the challenge of “self-acceptance” in a way she never could have imagined.
  • Adaptational Curves: Vivian’s appearance in this story is explicitly based on this piece of fan art, which gives her a more defined figure than she had in TTYD. Of course, this rarely comes up in the text itself, aside from a brief scene where Beldam notes that Vivian “hasn’t exactly been dieting lately.”
  • Insistent Terminology: She’s a Shadow Siren, not a ghost, and can’t really understand why people keep getting the two mixed up.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: As sweet as cotton candy, and pale pink hair to match.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: This time, Vivian wears a striped scarf instead of her usual hat, and she does a fair bit of asskicking.
  • Shrinking Violet: She’s a bit shyer than her canon self, and stutters sometimes when she talks, which she never did in the game. Granted, she mainly just seems to act that way around Mario, and she opens up after a while, so it could be justified by her growing feelings for him, combined with how long they had been apart.
    Peach
Peach is the pure-hearted princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, and a chronic Damsel in Distress. This time, she’s been kidnapped by her own alternate self, who aims to use her in a twisted scheme to be reborn. It’s a perilous situation, but even though Peach broke up with Mario, she can still rely on him to save her... right?
    Bowser
Gwa ha ha ha! It's Bowser, the mighty King of the Koopas! He needs no introduction either, but he'd be furious if we skipped it. When Bowser hears that Peach has been kidnapped by someone other than himself, he resolves to get her back no matter what - even if it means gatecrashing another timeline and tearing it to pieces!
    Lady Bow
This sassy Boo maiden shared in one of Mario’s previous adventures. With her quick wits, and her ability to turn others intangible, she can be a valuable ally when it suits her. But make no mistake, she’s just tagging along to keep herself entertained, (or at least that’s what she says).
    Yoshi
A true and loyal friend, Yoshi the Dinosaur has aided Mario on many adventures. Contrary to popular belief, he can say a lot more than just his name.
    Toad and Toadette
A pair of spunky young retainers in Princess Peach’s court. How they’re related is anyone’s guess.

The Amanita Resistance

    In General

    Goombella
The alternate world’s version of Goombella. Unlike the one Mario and Vivian knew, this Goombella never went to U Goom or studied archaeology. She’s just as smart, but has a streetwise edge that fits her role as a liaison for the resistance.
    Rowf

The Mushroom Empire

    Empress Toadstool

    The Hooded Figure / Kamek
A mysterious servant of the Empress, and the one who seems to do all the heavy lifting for her plans. Who is he, and is he really just a humble servant, or does he secretly have an agenda of his own? He turns out to be the alternate world's version of Kamek, and the one responsible for the stars going out.
