     Future Foundation

As a whole:

  • Action Survivor: Those of them who weren't initially saved by Future Foundation had to survive in the world for more than a month on their own.
  • Badass Crew
  • Everyone Went to School Together: The majority of them attended Hope's Peak within the span of about ten years, some even attending the same classes.
  • Frontline General: Many of the branch leaders are quick to charge headfirst into battle.
  • La Résistance: Against the despairs.
  • Significant Wardrobe Shift: Everyone now wears the Foundation's black uniforms. note
  • The Voice: Most of the canon Future Foundation members due to the lack of sprites.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: In the Battle of the Future Foundation Arc, everyone has an NG Code that they can't violate or else they'll receive a lethal dose of poison. Mahiru can't tell the truth, Mukuro can't be hugged, Sonia can't speak anything other than English, Miaya has to talk normally, Sayaka can't act outside of her idol persona, Mage can't touch anyone who identifies as male, Karma can't win against a girl, Ethos can't touch Jessie, etc.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Taka puts it best.
Taka: Rule 11 of Future Foundation states that any danger towards the members shall be placed on trial in front of the branch heads. Punishments can be either imprisonment for life, or execution.

Kyosuke Munakata

Class: 74 Talent: Former Ultimate Student Council President

Head of the 1st branch

  • The Leader: Of the Future Foundation.
  • Official Couple: With Chisa.
  • Only Sane Man: Debatable as of the Trial Arc, where he forces the suspects in Sadao's murder to debate about his murderer among themselves, and choose who they think the killer is. Even moreso after the Twins' Arc, where he takes Masaru Daimon away to vote on whether or not FF should execute him.

Kazuo Tengan

Former Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy

Head of the 2nd branch.

Mukuro Ikusaba

Class: 78 Talent: Former Ultimate Soldier

Member of the 2nd branch.

Koichi Kizakura

Former scout for Hope's Peak

Head of the 3rd branch.

Anya Homura

Member of the 3rd branch.

Seikatsu Suzumu

Class: 61 Talent: Former Ultimate Economist

Member of the 3rd branch.

The former teacher of Hope's Peak's 75th class.
  • Trauma-Induced Amnesia: After a head injury she received, she's having trouble remembering all the details of what's been going on.

Naomi Kizakura

Koichi Kizakura's niece

Member of the 3rd branch

  • Berserk Button: Do not threaten her friends.
Naomi: I'll let you know that if you touch one of Junpei-kun's hairs, I'll stick those scissors into your balls. Am I clear?
  • Big Sister Instinct: Hajime correctly notes she developed one towards the 79th class.
  • But We Used a Condom!: Her and Karma's reaction after finding out Naomi is pregnant. Kind of justfied, as this is the appoclypse and good supplies are hard to find.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Threats on Junpei that she'll send 'an angry Karma' after him if he won't call for help when needed.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Her pink stripe has faded, leaving her hair fully blonde, and the only hair dec she brought with her is a pink bow.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: During the celebration arc, she and Karma end up in this situation. It heavily influences their decision to get together later on.
  • Meta Guy
  • My Partner Right Or Wrong: When Karma is accused of killing Sadao, Naomi decries their decision despite having no evidence to the contrary. Granted, she's right and Karma's not the killer, but still.
  • Relationship Upgrade: With Karma.
  • Shipper on Deck: Plans on locking Junpei, Karma and Orochi in the closet until they solve their UST. After Junpei and Orochi get together, she hooks up with Karma.
  • Snooping Little Kid: She's not a little kid anymore, but boy does she get involved in other people's business, even eavesdropping on conversations.
  • The Team Normal: Technically speaking, since she's the only one of the group who wasn't at Hope's Peak Student.

Mahiru Koizumi

Former Ultimate Photographer

Member of the 3rd branch

  • Crush Blush: She admits to seeing Hajime as potentially meeting her standards. When pressed about it, she has a very prominent one of these.
  • Evil All Along: Averted. In Yuuko's game, she's forbidden from telling the truth, and is forced to answer questions that she has no choice but to lie about, saying that she was involved in Hiyoko's murder and that she's actually been a despair the whole time.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: She makes it clear that, if Kyoji ever does anything to hurt Mikan, he's gonna have to deal with her.
  • Only Sane Man
  • Redheaded Heroine
  • Team Mom
  • Tsundere

Daisuke Takai

Former Ultimate Butler

Member of the 3rd branch

Seiko Kimura

Class: 76 Talent: Former Ultimate Pharmacist

Head of the 4th branch.

  • Shipper on Deck: She seems to ship Kyoji and Mikan.
  • We Used to Be Friends: With Ruruka and Izayoi. During Yuuko's game, she and the latter manage to patch things up a bit. Ethos is doing what he can to help them.

Mikan Tsumiki

Class 77: Talent: Former Ultimate Nurse

Member of the 4th branch.

Kyoji Nakamura

Class: 75 Talent: Former Ultimate Geneticist

Member of the 4th branch.

  • Anime Hair: It's dark teal, spikier on one side than the other, and said spikes stick up at gravity-defying angles. Just take a look.
  • The Anti-Nihilist: A very passionate existentialist who encourages people to live their lives based on their own choices. He also believes that, in a world without inherent meaning, nobody can ever say your life or choices are worthless or that you were a mistake.
  • Apologetic Attacker: He's not pleased about having to stab Chisa, though thankfully he does it in a way where she won't suffer any serious damage.
  • Bio-Augmentation: He's made some genetic upgrades to help fight the despairs.
    • Blade Below the Shoulder: A type II made of bone that emerges from the back of his wrist.
    • Energy Absorption: He's apparently empowered by electrical energy.
    • Instant Armor: He can form a protective coating around himself, which he reveals during his fight against Ryokai.
    • Made of Iron: By his own admission, his bones are bulletproof and he could shrug off something as serious as impalement.
    • Spare Body Parts: He now has three hearts and four kidneys, among other redundant systems.
    • Super-Senses: He's made improvements to his vision, so he no longer needs glasses.
    • Wall Crawl: He's able to cling to walls with relative ease.
  • Blessed with Suck: The thing about all those augmentations? They hurt like hell. He's doped up on morphine on a regular basis.
    • He also seems to view talent this way, with society constantly piling on responsibilities for those who have it and expecting them to follow predetermined paths even if it's not something they want to pursue.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: He follows an unusual brand of Existentialism. He values justice, love, and freedom of choice despite seeing them as inherently meaningless. However, he's not opposed to intervening with the choices other people intend to make. Not because he thinks he knows better, but because he doesn't think they understand the consequences that their choice entails and what they're going to have to live with. The one thing he seems to greatly disagree with is moral absolutism. For example, suggesting that someone deserves to die.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: He offers to go back to Sayaka's base and help the people there...when he's supposed to be on a mission to Towa City to rescue another group of people. Kyoko steps in to remind him.
  • Custom Uniform: As shown in his sprite, he wears a blue button-up shirt with a bulletproof vest and a white lab coat.
  • Cynicism Catalyst: Inverted. After everything he's gone through, from losing his mom to all the human experiments he's taken part in, he's chosen to become far more idealistic.
  • The Dead Have Names: He has the names of all the fallen students engraved into his right arm.
  • The Fettered: He sees morals and restraints as the one thing that separates people like him from people like Junko and Maverick.
  • Flat "What": Has this exact response upon learning that Hajime already underwent the Izuru Kamukura Project and had his memories altered.
  • I Lied: He lied to Mikan about his mutations. They're now a permanent part of his body.
  • If I Do Not Return: He asks Kyoko to make sure Mikan and Miaya survive the Tragedy if anything happens to him, which she promises to.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: He doesn't go as far as to say she'll be like him, but in "Morals," he tells Kin that killing Maverick will put an end to the kind of person she used to be.
  • Improbable Age: Kyoji has found cures for 109 genetic diseases, modified his own body with lord knows how many mutations, and even made the first successful human clone. And he's only just recently hit 20.
  • Karma Houdini: He got away scot-free with his involvement in illegal human experimentation. He's not the least bit happy about it.
  • Must Make Amends: Guilty of brutal human experimentation while attending Hope's Peak, now a doctor dedicated to saving lives and helping people.
  • Official Couple: He and Mikan decide to start dating on her birthday.
  • Original Character
  • The Pollyanna: A very subtle example, but he tries to remain very optimistic regardless of the situation. He greatly encourages other people to never give up, regardless of how bleak their situation might get.
  • Professor Guinea Pig: All those augmentations you see above? He did all that himself.
  • Ship Tease: With Miaya and Mikan.
  • Shout-Out: When asked whether or not he has a crush on Maverick, Kyoji responds by paraphrasing AM's famous hate speech from I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream.
  • Silly Rabbit, Cynicism Is for Losers!: During his conversation with Orochi.
Kyoji: You're very cynical. You'll never get anywhere in life with that kind of attitude.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: He agrees with Mukuro on this stance, but he will still fight if he has to.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The despairs have managed to exploit many of the experiments he's created, including a Healing Factor.
  • Weapon for Intimidation: He waves around a vial filled with what he claims are Anthrax spores to intimidate Shin into showing him where Kyoko, Mukuro, and Junpei are. Turns out it's just a harmless white slime mold.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Completely averted. He sees Chiaki and Ryouko no differently than other people.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: This formed his rationale for upgrading himself. Rather than spending months and months learning new combat skills from the ground up, he modified his own body so he could be in the field and help people much sooner.

Member of the 6th branch

  • The '90s: They talk and act like a stereotypical 90's kid.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: They may be goofy and upbeat, but they're also a pretty deadly fighter when they need to be.
  • *But We Used a Condom!: Her and Naomi's reaction after finding out Naomi is pregnant. Kind of justfied, as this is the appoclypse and good supplies are hard to find.
  • Broken Ace: They blame themselves for the fall of Hope's Peak.
  • Delinquent Hair: Dyed neon blue with bright orange tips, and also covers the right side of their face.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: This is her solution for heating up some pop tarts for breakfast without a toaster.
  • Genki Girl: Even during the apocalypse, she manages to stay upbeat. Mostly.
  • Hermaphrodite: They admit to Orochi that they're technically both male and female, though they don't want to talk about it. When discussing it with Kyoji, she says she has two sets of genitalia, internal and external. While he does bring up intersex development and androgen insensitivity syndrome, his thoughts at the end of their conversation do make it clear that something else is up with Karma. He doesn't have the heart to tell them just yet.
    • It turns to be because Karma actually had a parasitic twin who's almost entirely merged with them.
  • Kissing Under the Influence: During the celebration arc, they and Naom end up in this situation. It heavily influences their decision to get together later on.
  • Love Triangle: With Junpei and Orochi. After those two get together, she gets together with Naomi.
  • Perception Filter: Has this ability thanks to Kyoji. By pressing her tongue against a nerve cluster in the roof of her mouth, she can basically become a background character: not invisible, but far less noticeable. It's explained as a sort of telepathic influence based on the Twin Telepathy synchronization skills of the Madarai siblings.
  • Relationship Upgrade: With Naomi.
  • Rummage Sale Reject: Karma's attire consists of a backwards yellow cap, a purple jacket with a popped collar, a black and white stripped shirt, a light green choker with a silver pendant, earrings, dark green pants, and heelys.
  • Spare Body Parts: She has two hearts and multiple other organs due to assimilating her twin while they were in the womb. Kyoji notes that there's no sign of brain tissue anywhere outside Karma's skull, so their sibling wouldn't have survived even if they were born.
  • Stepford Smiler: Her creator has confirmed that Karma is holding back a lot of guilt and self-loathing for not being able to stop the Tragedy. And the poor girl could snap at any time.

Dragonous Senses

Former Ultimate Hero

Member of the 6th branch

The Abotox

Member of the 6th branch

A bizarre mutant creature who serves as a lookout for Sayaka's group.

Miaya Gekkougahara

Class: 75 Talent: Former Ultimate Therapist

Head of the 7th branch.

The former Ultimate Therapist and current head of the 7th branch, Miaya created the blog to help reach survivors of the Tragedy.
  • All-Loving Hero: She believes Maverick can be redeemed, and even goes so far as to say she'd cry for him if he died.
  • Ascended Extra: Only mentioned here and there in the previous blog, she's now become a full-fledged character.
  • Cute Mute: She can talk just fine, she's just so shy that she prefers to use a computer.
  • Last-Name Basis: Not that she's against people calling her by her first name, it's just that she prefers when Kyoji does it.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Her mom was a therapist as well. After her father was killed in a construction accident, she helped her mother work through it and also took over her sessions with patients. That's when Hope's Peak got word of her talent and invited her to attend the 75th class.
  • Motherly Scientist: She was very fond of Ryouko, who was cloned using one of her egg cells, and was pretty devastated by her death.
  • Nice Girl: She's very kind.
  • Oh, Crap!: After stating the Foundation building secure, only for someone to remind her that Chihiro is on the side of the despairs, she has this reaction.
  • Only Sane Woman: A more depressing example. After Kyoji dropped out, she was the only one in Class 75 to not fall for Maverick's manipulations.
  • Rousseau Was Right: She believes this wholeheartedly.
  • Ship Tease: Gets a lot with Kyoji.
  • Shy Blue-Haired Girl: So shy she only ever speaks to people through the AI on her laptop. Aside from Kyoji, that is.
  • Spell My Name With An S: "Gekkougahara" or "Gekkogahara." Most people use the former, but the latter is also common.
  • Teen Genius: She developed an interest in psychology as a child, but really began working in the field when she was 14.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted. It's what she's best at.
  • True Companions: She and Kyoji are very close, though it's implied her feelings go a bit further.

Richard

Member of the 7th branch.

The infamous kink anon.

Neku Hayashi

Member of the 7th branch.

Kin Takei

Class: 75 Talent: Former Ultimate Lucky Student

Member of the 7th Branch

  • Born Lucky: It's her talent, after all.
  • Covert Pervert: Apparently, the first word that comes to mind when someone says "meat" in front of her is "dick".
  • Despair Event Horizon: She hit it when Maverick killed her best friend and fiance. She hasn't recovered, and now lives only for revenge.
  • Forced to Watch: She watched Maverick brutally murder her best friend and fiance in cold blood.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: Kyoji warns her not to try and kill Maverick, telling her that he'll win if she does.
  • No Sympathy For Grudge Holders: She holds a pretty major grudge against Maverick for killing her best friend and fiance, repeatedly wishing death upon him for it. Many members of the Future Foundation are trying to shake her of this mindset, however they've not been particularly successful.
  • Revenge: She wishes to kill Maverick because he killed her best friend and fiance.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: She treats Sonia this way after Irunami's murder.
  • Sliding Scale of Idealism vs. Cynicism: She's heavily on the cynical side, due to Maverick killing two of the people closest to her. It's been implied that she wasn't all that cynical before.

Junpei Yokozawa

Former Ultimate Blogger

Member of the 7th branch

Orochi Kamisaka

Former Ultimate Decipher

Member of the 7th branch

  • Affectionate Nickname: Junpei calls him "Ka-Chan."
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: His feelings for Junpei came about when Junpei saved him from a gang of bullies, threatening to post a video of them harassing him online for the whole school to see. They became good friends afterward.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: He may be a goofball, but his talent and desire to protect Junpei can make him quite a force to be reckoned with.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Joked to Karma about killing everyone and pinning it on her.
  • Eye Colour Change: In "Heartfelt Flashback" mentions his eyes can change from amber to red.
  • Gayngst: Has some cases of this, especially after Celeste calls him a living embodiment of the homosexual agenda.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: As the Ultimate Decipher, he can identify and understand a lot, ranging from a person's true intentions to the paths of incoming bullets.
  • Humans Are Bastards: He believes people are inherently selfish by nature. Kyoji disagrees.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Inverted. Whenever Orochi appears, things get a lot less serious. For example, during Junpei and Kyoji's very serious discussion about the state of the world, Orochi burst in in a maid outfit. Hilarity ensued
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: It happens when Karma ends up shooting Akane in the knee, and he gets much more serious and protective of Junpei. He makes it clear that, if she keeps up that kind of attitude, he won't let her near Junpei.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Orochi or Orichi?
  • Straight Gay: He admits to Karma that he likes her, but he's not attracted to girls.
  • The Tease: A Rare Male Example. He really likes messing with Junpei.
  • Yandere: Openly refers to himself as one when talking to Kyoji.

Magdalene “Mage” Boulanger

Former Ultimate Baker

Member of the 8th branch

  • Ascended Fanon: A gag from Anon Academy had her spray people in the face with whipped cream anytime things got out of hand or they were being annoying. It's now become a recurring element of her character.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her father went missing during the Tragedy.
  • Meaningful Name: Her last name translates as "baker."
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: She gave Kyosuke a full speech of this after the Trial Arc.
  • Team Mom

Sonosuke Izayoi

Class: 76 Talent: Former Ultimate Blacksmith

Head of the 9th branch.

Sly

Former Ultimate Assassin

Member of the 9th branch

  • AntiHero: Of the pragmatic variety.
  • The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People: He's grown much closer to the other students after the Tragedy.
"When we first left the only reason I came along with you all is cause I felt like you’d all die if I hadn’t and it would benefit me in the long run, but as time moved on, you all turned that bad feeling I had into some kind of hope towards the future. I never really had friends growing up. but when I was around you I felt happy. I’m gonna make sure that you all survive this tragedy, and if it comes down to it, I will lay my life on the line for all of you...even Yokozawa."
  • Friendless Background
  • Good Is Not Soft: He wasn't called the Ultimate Assassin for nothing.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: A non-romantic example with Ryouko. He feels somewhat responsible for leaving her to fend for herself during the Fall of Hope's Peak, where she was killed. Unsurprisingly, he's quite shocked to see her alive again.
  • Only One Name: He and Oceanis only ever go by singular names.
  • Ship Tease: With Ryouko.
  • Tragic Keepsake: He's held on to Ryouko's memory notebook.

Malcom Suzuki

Former Ultimate Boyscout of class 76

Member of the 9th Branch

  • Despair Event Horizon: After Nakashima's reveal as being Evil All Along, Malcom seems to have lost emotions, even two weeks after the events of the Trial Arc.
  • Gay Best Friend
  • Headbutting Heroes: With Itsuki.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: While being a boyscout may not sound impressive, Malcom used his skills to survive alone multiple months in the Tragedy and create complex wooden structures and weaponry.
  • Odd Friendship: With Nakashima.
    • Possibly formerly due to recent events.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red to Nakashima's blue.
  • Skewed Priorities: Seems to value his backpack a lot. Izayoi lampshades it.
Malcom: Please don't cut my bag!... Or me!
Izayoi: Good to see your priorities are as straight as you.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Gives one of those to Junpei, both on his past actions and his current treatment of himself.
Malcom: I will not allow you to continue letting people hit you. You’re getting nothing, and the people that hit you aren’t either. If you truly want forgiveness, or atonement for your actions… Treat yourself, and your victims, with respect. And never forget.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru

Class: 78 Talent: Former Ultimate Moral Compass

Head of the 10th branch.

Ryota Mitarai

Class: 77 Talent: Former Ultimate Animator

Member of the 10th branch.

Sayaka Maizono

Former Ultimate Pop Sensation

Member of the 10th branch

  • Badass Adorable
  • Broken Ace: If her reaction to Kyoji and Future Foundation are any indication, she may have become one.
  • Combat Stilettos: Considering she's been stuck wearing the same clothes for over a month, this one is not voluntary.
Sayaka: I have fought of more rioters than any girl should...in heels, no less. If you so much as come at me, I won’t hesitate.
  • Easily Forgiven: Kyoji forgives her quite easily, especially considering she tried to kill him.
Kyoji: Considering how messed up our current situation is, I don’t think the way you reacted was irrational at all. I’d probably react the same way if I met myself in a dark alley.
  • The Leader: Has decided to take on the role for the group.
  • Machete Mayhem: She carries one for self-defense.
  • Nightmare Face: Makes one as she's prepared to kill Kyoji.
  • Took a Level in Cynic/Took a Level in Jerkass: She's a lot more serious, hardened, and much more violent than she was before. Though given the Crapsack World she's been living in for over a month and that she has to look out for her friends, this is justified.
    • Took a Level in Kindness: Though she softens up quite a bit when she's reunited with Makoto and Kyoko, and they explain everything that's happened.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: To protect Makoto and her friends, she's prepared to, in her own words, cut the despair out of the world.
  • Yandere: She still has shades of this, especially when Makoto is involved.

Emi Chouko

Former Ultimate Music Critic

Member of the 10th branch

Kumi Kuwata

Hajime Hinata

Former Reserve Course Student

Member of the 14th branch.

  • Amnesiac Hero: He's actually already undergone the Izuru Kamukura project, but he has no recollection of it. Same reason why Rogue has her powers but no memory of where she got them- Hope's Peak's Steering Committee.
  • Badass Normal: He does surprisingly well against his colleagues during Yuuko's game.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: He still sees himself as lesser when compared to everyone else. Ironic, considering who he has laying dormant inside of him.
  • I Just Want to Be Special
  • The Team Normal: Due to his lack of a talent. Turns out he's not actually as talentless as he thought.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: The real reason he was in the Main Course was because he'd already undergone the Izuru Kamukura Project, and the namesake's been laying dormant inside of him for a long time.

  • Ordinary High-School Student: With Novoselic gone, she sees herself as just a regular girl now.
  • Yaoi Fangirl: She and Karma bond over their mutual love of the genre.

Rina Kirishima

Former Ultimate Taxidermist

  • Idiot Hair: Like another lucky student, he has one.
  • Official Couple: With Kobo
  • Put on a Bus: Part of the conclusion to The Twin's Arc involved Ryuu staying behind to turn the former shelter of a group of survivors into the secondary base for the Future Foundation.

Ethos Oroya

Class: 76 Talent: Former Ultimate Destruction

Head of the Special Research Branch

Chiaki Nanami

Former Ultimate Gamer

Member of the Special Research Branch

  • Amateur Sleuth
  • Become a Real Boy: Kyoji offers to make her a human body and transfer her into it, though she's skeptical about the idea, mostly because it means there's a chance she could die. Ultimately though, she agrees.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She's taken the sarcasm up a level compared to the game and especially the anime. When Ethos suggest they take a car to help everyone in Towa City.
Ethos….we’re on an island. We couldn’t go by car anyway.
  • Gamer Girl
  • Heroic BSoD: A literal example, considering what she is. Whenever she gets extremely emotional, her body shuts down and reboots.
  • Humanity Ensues: Thanks to Kyoji, she becomes fully human.
  • Just a Machine: She only sees herself as programming.
  • Nice Girl: She's a very kind person.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Though most of the others don't know it.
  • Token Nonhuman: For the Remnants of Hope and later Future Foundation. Though that changes once she acquires a human body.

Ryouko Otonashi

Future Foundation Trainee

  • Back from the Dead
  • Clone Angst: Initially, she saw herself as just a copy of Junko and thus she should act no differently from her. However, Sly is able to talk her out of the mindset.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Thanks to Sly's intervention, she turns back to the side of good relatively easily.
  • Throwing Off the Disability: When she was resurrected by the despairs, they repaired the brain damage that caused her Anterograde Amnesia. Unfortunately, that also means she started seeing things Junko's way.
  • Walking Spoiler: If you were new to the blog, not only would you be spoiled on the fact that she died last blog, but also that she's a clone of Junko.

Mage's Boyfriend, clone of Ishimaru.

Akagawa Atsushi

Nakashima's sister.
  • Abusive Parents: Her and Nakashima's mom was quite overbearing toward her, forcing her to study and trying to raise her as an Ultimate. When Nakashima got into the school and Akagawa didn't, her mother...didn't take it well.
  • Covert Pervert: She admits that she gets weird when she's alone with girls. Probably best showcased when she decides to take a peak under Komaru's skirt after they've been captured by the despairs. Komaru doesn't react well.
    • She also finds Hina very attractive, especially when it comes to her, ahem, "assets."
  • Idiot Hair: She doesn't have it herself, but she takes quite a liking to Komaru's.
  • Sole Survivor: She's the only one left out of her initial group of survivors.
  • Taught by Television: Learned survival skills via TV, which helped her survive the Tragedy.
  • Despair Event Horizon: With her brother now a despair, she seems to have completely shut herself off from everyone and has been staying her room ever since what happened.

While most of them were rescued by Future Foundation, Tarō and Tsubasa (the couple who was going to attempt a mutual suicide) were killed and three of them are missing.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Umesawa. She even calls others Big Bro or Big Sis.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Their attempts at weeding out the Traitor ultimately lead to Sadao's death.

Rantaro Amami

Tragedy survivor, member of the 2nd base

Sankakuto Reiji

Former Future Executioner, member of the 2nd base

  • Blatant Lies: When he cooks, he promises to Shuichi that his recipe won't use too many ingredients... Then he lists everything he needs.
Sankakuto: It’s just a chicken breast, a bit of broccoli, some cheese, some pasta, and a mashed up tomato
Shuichi: Wait that still sounded like a lot of food!
  • Brutal Honesty: Shows this multiple times when talking to Shuichi.
Sankakuto: The last time I was in here, I was pretty sure the screwdriver wasn’t trying to become one with the wall!
  • Empty Eyes: Possibly subverted. He tries to show Shuichi that he has no emotions, but the latter theorizes that Sankakuto buries his emotions due to being an executioner. The idea enrages Sankakuto.
  • It's All My Fault: His feelings on his executions being used by the Despairs in Killing Games.

Itsuki Ginmaku

Former Ultimate Ice Skater, member of the 2nd base

  • Headbutting Heroes: With Malcom.

     Ultimate Despair

As a whole

  • The Bad Guy Wins: They succeeded in creating a world consumed by despair. Of course, how long it continues to exist is another matter.
  • Evil Former Friend: Many of them used to be good friends with members in the Future Foundation and the Remnants of Hope.
  • Five-Man Band: Technically, they have seven members, but they all fit the archetypes.
  • Hated by All: Unsurprisingly, the Despairs are absolutely hated worldwide, so much so that bitter enemies like Saudi Arabia and Iran have pulled an Enemy Mine to fight them.

Nakashima Atsushi

  • Evil All Along: He's a despair, but not the one who murdered Sadao.
  • Only Friend: He and Miaya seem to get along fairly well, even after Miaya slaps him when he says him dying wouldn't have an effect on anyone.
    • He's also on good terms with Malcolm, one of his old classmates.
    • This is now put into question, due to Nakashima now being a despair.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: He claims to be dying, which is why he wants to leave and find his sister as soon as possible.
    • However, it's revealed that he wasn't dying, but was simply completing his transition to being a despair. He meant the real Nakashima was dying.
  • Odd Friendship: With Malcom. Despite their incredibly contrasting personalities, they are best friends.
    • Nakashima being Evil All Along, it's unsure how his current relationship with Malcom is.

Mina Reizo

  • Better to Die than Be Killed: Exhausted, injured, and knowing that Maverick will just keep coming after her if she escapes, Mina decides to blow herself up with a grenade rather than allow him the satisfaction of killing her.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: From what we know about her, she grew up in Kamagasaki, the biggest slum in Japan, and had to do some terrible things to survive. She initially thought she and Maverick were similar and even seemed to see him as a confidant. Of course, by the time they meet again, she's learned her lesson.
  • Dying Curse: She promises that, when Maverick dies, she'll be there to drag him down to hell herself.
  • Only a Flesh Wound: Averted. After Maverick shoots her in the shoulder, she loses seemingly all function in her arm.
  • Pin-Pulling Teeth: Thanks to her above shoulder injury, she sets off her grenade like this.
  • True Companions: With some of the other students in Class 75, who all teamed up when they figured Maverick would try to kill them all someday.

Umeko Hayase

  • Dimensional Traveler: She was holed up in her bunker for several weeks during the Tragedy, she was scanning several possible universes. With what little power she had left, she decided to travel to one of these worlds, where she fell in love with a girl and has decided to stay.
  • Cyborg: She has a cybernetic implant over her right temple.
  • Gayngst: It's implied that Maverick manipulated her by convincing her that she would never be accepted because she's a lesbian. But she's proved him wrong when she said she found a girl who loves her.
  • Improbable Age: She takes this to truly ludicrous extremes by creating an Interdimensional Travel Device despite having been out of high school for less than five years.
  • Killed Off for Real: Averted. She's likely one of the few class 75 members who's making it through the tragedy alive.
  • Ludicrous Precision: When making a prediction, her odds are all to at least the third decimal point. She also tells Maverick that there are 11,756,833 possible futures awaiting him, and he only succeeds in 92 of them.

  • Seers: She claims she can see the future, or at least several possible ones.
