Characters / The Debbie and Carrie Show

Go To

The five Central Characters of the Debbie and Carrie Show were as follows:

    In General
  • Soapbox Sadie: Their being atheist and also supportive of LGBT rights and opposing racism in a town dominated by conservative bigots, this is to be expected.
  • Undying Loyalty: Jessica and Lucy Sims, Carrie's lesbian mothers, have this to each other, and they pass that attitude to Carrie, who expresses it to Debbie. In turn, Debbie and Carrie pass it on to their son Richard, who is steadfast in his loyalty to his love interest Diana Hudson while they are still small children.
    • Even before they became related by marriage, the Sims couple and Sandy Smith were like Heterosexual Life-Partners, a bond forged by being persecuted by their enemies in the town. Such was their closeness that if you harmed any of them or any of their children, you would soon have to deal with all of them as a matter of principle.
  • Characterization Marches On: Lucy Sims and her wife Jessica Sims were originally created just to be both lesbians and an interracial couple, so that both LGBT and racism issues could be explored through them. Lucy later became known for being an ex-Jehovah's Witness, whose sister Victoria was one of her enemies. Jessica remained a Flat Character, acting as a foil for Lucy, until she started working at a pharmacy and began giving away free birth control to teens, making her offensive to conservative parents in the Town.
    • Debbie and Carrie began the saga as teens who were each other's Best Friend but soon underwent a Relationship Upgrade. Then they got married. Then they had a son, Richard. They continued to be a couple all the way to the end of their lives, because of their Undying Loyalty
    • A more dramatic example was that of Scott Miller, Lucy Sims's nephew, who like her was raised a Jehovah's Witness, and then would leave the cult as an adult, just as she did decades before. Unlike Lucy, he would convert to Islam and marry a Muslim woman.
    Debbie Smith
  • The Heart
  • Originally, she had Girlish Pigtails that were pink, because she was an Expy of Sophia in Become Jehovah's Friend. Later, her appearance was altered to make her look more mature, with the pink hair becoming blonde and being brushed out.
  • Daddy's Girl - Though Debbie resented the fact that her father cheating on her mother caused her to be taken from Tulsa to live in Texas, she was more forgiving of her father than her brother James was. And it took years for her to stop mourning the tragic death of her father.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Debbie may originally have been the sweetheart compared to Carrie, but over time she would be as willing as Carrie to engage in violence against enemies, after seeing how much her mother, brother, and others were hurt by bigots. Debbie was also willing to forgive past enemies, but she always remembered what they did against her..
  • Amazon Chaser: Debbie and Carrie start out as merely best friends, but their relationship later turns romantic. One of the reasons Debbie, herself a stunning beauty, finds Carrie so attractive is because Carrie stands up fearlessly to bullies like Ted Wilson, being willing to both dish out and take savage beatings from such people.
    Carrie Sims
  • Debbie's best friend/lover/wife who was the Action Girl.
  • Visual Development: All the Central Characters occasionally changed their Plotagon made character models but Carrie was the most dramatic example, switching from her original form (Lizzie) to a custom built form that looked more mature, much like the change Debbie underwent. But though their appearances changed, their personalities never did.
  • Sex as Rite-of-Passage: Despite being raised by lesbians, Carrie thought she was straight at first, because her first love partner was a 13 year old boy named Patrick and she had never felt attracted to other girls. Then she met Debbie. That Debbie was as beautiful (and blonde) as Carrie's mother Jessica may have been a factor in Carrie falling in love with her and then the two lost their virginity together. Eventually, Carrie lost all interest in anyone else, male or female, and became devoted to Debbie for the rest of her life.
  • Berserk Button: Seeing an act of sexual assault on another girl is enough to make Carrie engage in extreme violence against the perpetrator.
  • Bad Ass Normal: Carrie has no superpowers (normally), but her absolute fearlessness in the face of bullies and criminals means she can defeat them simply by her stubborn willingness to fight them to the bitter end. Her being injured nearly to death on more than one occasion is no deterrent. Indeed, nothing enrages Carrie more than anyone harming or even threatening Debbie or at least one of her mothers (or, really, anyone close to them). She will literally kill you if you are idiotic enough to do that in front of her. At the very least, you will be battered severely. Ted Wilson learned that to his public embarrassment. Twice.
    Sandy Smith
  • Debbie's mother, The Leader and the smartest member of the group, justified since she was a lawyer.
  • Alliterative Name - However, her backstory was that she was born Sandy Green, a reference to the name of her original character model, "Ms. Green".
  • Drowning her Sorrows: Though she would deny being an alcoholic, she did have an unfortunate tendency to drink herself to excess during times of extreme emotional distress, causing her to pass out completely.
  • It's Personal: Sandy's conflict with Diana Kalli was exactly this.
  • Classical Music Is Boring: Subverted, with Sandy Smith being only willing to listen to that kind of music and being disdainful of all other kinds, which she considered dull and beneath her.
     Jessica Sims
  • Carrie's birth mother who with her wife took on a White Man's Burden. She was also a Girl Next Door as well as a Head-Turning Beauty
  • Brutal Honesty: When Carrie told her mothers of her new relationship with Debbie, Jessica proceeded to have a serious talk with Carrie.....about her own experiences with relationships, including being abused by a lover named Barbara before Lucy came into the picture and even being RAPED by an older man when she was Carrie's age.
  • Screw the Rules, They're Not Real!: Jessica was raised from babyhood to be atheist and has absolutely ZERO regard for the teachings of any religion, with the possible exception of Unitarian Universalism (because it does not presume the reality of any god). She even gives birth control for free to teens, despite objections from religious parents, regarding her principles as superior to theirs.

    Lucy Sims
  • Jessica's wife and Carrie's co-mother, something of a Token Minority taken to an extreme level (she was not only black, but also lesbian, atheist, and a Cult Defector).
  • Long-Lost Relative: Lucy believed that her father had died when she was eight, but that's only what her mother had told her. Lucy was reunited with her father when she was in her 40s and he was an old man and despite their awkward feelings towards each other, they soon established a loving relationship. Like Lucy, her father was a Cult Defector.
  • The Teetotaler: Even while visiting a club or bar, she would never drink alcohol and she influenced Jessica to be the same way. It was the only thing she carried over from her original life as a Jehovah's Witness, even while scorning everything else about her former cultish life.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: Played with. Lucy Sims bears a strong resemblance to "Lucy Conrad", an antagonist character in the "Paul and Vicky/Blazing Beauty Show", and when the actress who actually played the character was badly injured in a car accident, Lucy Sims was asked to fill in for that actress. That's because both characters in their respective shows were played by the same "Lucy" character model included in all Plotagon apps.

  • Anika Mc Kinsey: Niece of Charles Mc Kinsey and was considered a cousin of Richard Sims despite them having no relation by blood.
    • Childhood Friend Romance: Averted. She fell in love with Richard Sims, but soon learned he only had eyes for Diana Hudson.
  • Denise Kalli: Sister of Diana Kalli who hated and opposed her for the abuse heaped on her as a child by her mother and sister.
    • Hollywood Homely......She was actually quite attractive, if her character model made in Plotagon was any indication, but she had been told she was ugly because of her more beautiful older sister, whom their mother favored.
  • Hermine Dawson: Blind teenage girl who was befriended by Vicky Sims.
  • Nadine Dawson: Mother of Hermine, George, and Rose Dawson.
  • Rose Dawson: Older sister of Hermine and George, she was a Hooker with a Heart of Gold.

List of the Central Characters' enemies:

  • Ted Wilson: Arch-Enemy to Carrie
    • The Bully: he also caused trouble for Debbie Smith, her brother James, James' lover Penny Bentley, and others.
  • Rev. Dave Owen: the first actual Big Bad of the saga.
  • Carla Jenkins......she was the first actual antagonist of the saga, but she soon switched sides to help the Central Characters after Sandy Smith shook her faith in Christianity.
  • Victoria Miller: Lucy Sims' sister, a loyal Jehovah's Witness.
  • Scott Miller: Victoria's son, who later became a Cult Defector like his aunt Lucy and grandfather Daniel Gordon had done before him.
  • Diana Kalli: Insanely vindictive rival to Sandy Smith
    • Would Hurt a Child: One of the most despicable things Diana Kalli did was to not only start wildfires in the forest outside the Town to destroy a campsite nearby, but then to kidnap a little girl attending the camp, Diana Hudson. (Yes, they had the same first name; no, Diana Kalli couldn't have cared less.) No wonder Sandy Smith killed her later.
  • David Park: Father of Laura Park. Committed an act of arson at the command of Rev. Dave Owen, leading to both of them going to prison after they were caught.
  • Rebekah Smith/Wilson: Niece to Sandy Smith and cousin of Debbie Smith, she would form alliances with others such as Diana Kalli and Ted Wilson to attack her own relatives. She was born Rebekah Green, but changed her last name to Smith after she was disowned by her parents, Samuel and Leslie Green, only to be rejected by Sandy and Debbie in turn.
  • Ted Anderson: Arch-Enemy to Sandy Smith, at least in terms of politics, he was mayor of the Town before her. They would battle each other repeatedly in elections and other events. Her determination to see her rival defeated was more important to her than actually winning an election. In one of her greatest victories she would send him to prison for his crimes. He was the namesake of Ted Wilson.
  • George Anderson: Son of Ted Anderson, who used his position as mayor to make his son the Town's Police Chief, a clear case of Nepotism.
    • Hypocrite: One of the most blatant examples of this in the show is when George Anderson, while wearing his police uniform, no less, shamelessly commits an attempt at ARSON because of his hatred for the Central Characters and his misguided loyalty to his father, Ted Anderson, the Town's mayor at the time.
    • After George was sent to prison for his crimes, his mother Patty Anderson caused him to undergo a Heel–Face Turn and he helped get his own father locked up.
  • Leonard Wilson: Father of Ted Wilson, he is the very embodiment of capitalist corruption in the Town.
  • Nicolas Owen: Dave's elder son, he was a founder and first President of the Faithful Remnant, a right-wing extremist group.
    • Fred Owen: Nicolas' brother and partner in the Faithful Remnant.
    • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: The Faithful Remnant was originally created by the Owen brothers as a political action force and it could have persisted for decades. What doomed it in only a few years was the Owens turning it into a terrorist group, complete with a militia that was sent to attack Austin, Texas.....only to be destroyed by the U S Army, along with Nicolas being killed and Fred being captured and tried for insurrection.
  • Deborah Flowers: A Control Freak over her daughter Bella who opposed Jessica Sims' giving birth control to Bella.
  • George Dawson: Son of Nadine Dawson and brother of Hermine and Rose Dawson. He would turn out to be a bully like Ted Wilson, but even more of a coward and wimp than Ted.
  • Paul Smith: Younger brother of Rich Smith and thus an uncle of Debbie.....but as a Mormon, he was also her enemy!
  • David Owen II: Nicolas' son and Dave's grandson, he continued the Owen - Smith family feud until the 2060s.
  • Roosh Scumbaugh: A scornful mockery of Rush Limbaugh
  • Annie Revoulter: An equally scornful mockery of Ann Coulter. She marries Roosh Scumbaugh and they team up against Sandy Smith.
  • Lee Lorde: A superintendent of the Town's school district who tried to use his position against Sandy Smith. He was later fired for this.
  • Cindy Everson: A member of the Town's school board who supported Lee Lorde. Her involvement with the Christian Way Academies was exposed by former Town mayor Wayne Bentley, and then she was expelled from the school board.
  • Don Dacron: Another Corrupt Corporate Executive that ran an oil company and tried to stop Sandy Smith from building a solar and wind power station. Then he attempted to destroy it, but was caught. His being locked up changed his attitude, however.
