James

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_2.jpg
"That's not showing your creativity though, he just asked you what you did creative on the task."
  • Artistic License – History: Thought a pretend Norman fort was a real English village when selecting a location for their car advert, and did not change the theme appropriately
  • Bring It: Seemed oddly content with Ross bringing him back into the boardroom, simply saying:
"Okay, if you want to bring me in boss, bring me in."
  • Color Character: James White
  • Extreme Doormat: Accused of this multiple times by Lord Sugar, both as project manager and sub-team leader.
  • Nice Guy: Described himself as such on his CV and had his fair share of Pet the Dog moments to back it up, such as comforting Joanna after it was revealed that her team had won the task.
  • Only Sane Man: In spite of being accused of being an Extreme Doormat by Lord Sugar, James was probably the only man this year to have much consistency since this year's men's team (Vitality) were one of the worst men's teams on The Apprentice since Logic in 2011.
  • Sole Survivor: After Harrison left, he was the last remaining man this year like Courtney last year. The only difference was that Courtney was the runner up while James was a joint winner with Sarah.
  • There Can Be Only One: Averted. He and Sarah were the first joint-winners in the show's history. The nearest the show had come to doing this previously was with Season 1's Saira and Season 6's Chris, who Sugar told that he'd be willing to give them a job if ever they needed one (though neither ever took him up on the offer), and Season 7's Susan, whom he invested in a year later, once she had a little more experience under her belt.

Sarah

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_9.jpg
"You need no help in being brought down. Your behaviour is ridiculous!"
  • A Taste of Defeat: Having won every task up to Week 4, Sarah experienced this in Week 5 when she lost for the first time.
  • Backseat Driver: Claude felt she was this on the fifth task because despite Harrison being sub team leader, it was Sarah who was directing things.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: She may be regarded as one of the more level headed female candidates this year, but much like Elliot that didn't stop Sarah from being pushed by Siobhan too far and cutting her down to size.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Used the word 'Crusaders' in her brand name for a gourmet recipe kit without realising that the retailers would have problems with it.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: With the exception of the 'Crusaders' debacle, rarely put a foot wrong throughout the process and was usually the one cleaning up after her team's mistakes. Particularly pronounced in the final task; between Harrison hanging back and Jade's many errors, Sarah seemed to be the only one doing anything right.
  • One-Steve Limit: Initially, shared the first name as Sarah Jayne. Then Lord Sugar fired Sarah Jayne.
  • There Can Be Only One: Averted. As mentioned under James's entry, the two were the show's first-ever joint winners.
  • Two First Names: Sarah Lynn.

Michaela

"I have admitted my part in this board Elliot. Why can't you admit that you have ever done anything wrong? I mean, you just do nothing!"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/michaela.jpg
some caption text
  • Crack Defeat: To say that people weren't happy about Michaela's dismissal in the interviews would be an understatement.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Along with the boys on her subteam, she changed the branding of the prototype robot without seemingly realising that the name associated with the original branding was being programmed into the prototype overnight.
  • Oop North: From Bolton, and it shows in her accent.
  • The Bus Came Back: Returned to the show, two years later, to help finalist, Scarlett Allen-Horton, in the final as part of a podcast involving women in engineering, then returned to You’re Fired as part of the Week 6 panel two series later.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivered one, along with Harrison, to Elliot part of which is part of her quote.

Elizabeth

"Lord Sugar, I had my hands in that meat and I mixed it."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_11.jpg
  • Accidental Misnaming: A subtle example, but during the task review, referred to Sajan as "Sergeant". In the first week, she referred to Siobhan as "Sinead". Siobhan was not impressed.
  • Artistic License – Physics: After Joanna asked her whether there had been perhaps too much water in the burger mixture, Elizabeth's response was that the water loosens it. Come time for the boardroom though, Lord Sugar told her that the water was causing it to stick together.
  • Backseat Driver: Her most consistent trait is wanting to do everything herself.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Was regarded as the typical quirky candidate loved by the audience but hated by the candidates, but like Lucinda in Series 4, managed to lead Graphene to another solid win.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Self-confessed in the first task:
Elizabeth: (confession cam) "I'm the pottiest person in the room. But I'm also more importantly the most clear headed person in the room. I hope my temper doesn't come out because I've got size ten feet and they kick butt."
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: When the results were announced, Karren announced that first the department store would take 15 orders for the girls' prototype robot and Elizabeth was mildly celebratory. Karren announces that the electronics store would take 100 orders and while the rest of the girls were calm for the results, Elizabeth proceeds to celebrate even before the results can be fully announced catching Lord Sugar's attention.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: What Claude accused her of during her time as project manager.
  • Percussive Maintenance: For some reason, decided that hitting burger mixture would make it come out properly...which it did. After the task, she confessed to having worked out all her anxieties in five minutes.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: After Siobhan left, Elizabeth is now starting to become this.
  • The Rival: To Siobhan in the first task. Their rivalry eventually escalated in Week 3 where Siobhan described Elizabeth as an "old air bag"
  • The Scapegoat: Joanna tried to make her this in the boardroom. It got to the point that Karren and Lord Sugar had to reprimand all three women in the last three.

Joanna

"Is Lord Sugar Jewish?"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_10.jpg
  • Arch-Enemy: Became this to Jade in the second task.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Apparently wasn't aware that fir trees existed, thinking they were talking about trees covered in actual fur.
  • Alliterative Name: Joanna Jarjue. Also shares this with Siobhan (Siobhan Smith) and Sajan (Sajan Shah)
  • Berate and Switch: Got several from Lord Sugar and the board on her leadership to the point where after it was revealed they won, she started shedding "tears of relief."
  • Crippling Overspecialisation: An odd example; she was arguably the best project manager of this season, barely putting a foot wrong in either of her turns when leading teams, but when she wasn't leading she generally tended to be disruptive and wouldn't contribute all that much.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Despite doing little of note beyond complaining in the first four weeks, and also having a rather chaotic start to her stint as project manager in Week 5, after that she proved one of the most decisive and assured project managers thus far this season, and steered the team to a solid victory.
    • Badass Decay: But by Week 7, she reverted back to her original poor ways.
  • Reality Show Genre Blindness: Committed the classic mistake of proposing a business plan in an industry that she had no experience in whatsoever. This mistake has taken down much stronger candidates like Helen from Series 7 and Neil from Series 9, so it wasn't much of a surprise that Joanna was the first to get cut in the interview rounds.

Jade

"It's a draw, yet there's three lads in the boardroom?"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jade_14.jpg
  • Arch-Enemy: Became this to Joanna in the second task.
  • Blatant Lies: When coming up with the magazine cover for promoting their designer in Week 10, the subteam branded the collection under the designer's real name (not her brand-name) due to Jade failing to make the brand-name clear. When this was brought to the attention of Jade, she claimed that the designer had given her consent to use her real name with the brand, when in fact she had said nothing of that nature.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Lost her team the fashion task partly because she never mentioned the collection's brand-name clearly when discussing the branding strategy.
  • Tempting Fate: Having won as Project Manager the third task, she told Anisa, Bushra and Elizabeth that she had forgot what it felt like to lose on the girls' reward...Guess what happened the following week.
    • She further experienced another loss along with Anisa in Week 6.

Harrison

"I'm not going to stand there and stand next to you, waiting for you to do numbers. I am going to make more burgers, I'm not going to stand there waiting for you to make a decision."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_15.jpg
  • The Bus Came Back: Showed up in the audience on the episode of You’re Fired following the Series 17 Dubai task.
  • The Determinator: Despite having his sub team leadership criticised, Karren admitted that he was at least a hard worker.
  • Manipulative Bastard: In much the same way as Jim back in Season 7, he browbeat Danny into not bringing him back after Danny initially chose him. To be fair though, Harrison was the top salesman on the team, so if anything he probably did Danny a favour (not that it did him any good).
    • His team further accused him of being this in regards to location, though he denied it vigorously:
"So I said the word "Brixton" and you said "Oh, he said the word Brixton, so he decided it." That's a complete cop out, that's got nothing to do with anything."
  • Narm Charm: In-universe; his less-than-stellar singing to the guests at the Wembley Stadium task actually got them to sing along.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Joined Michaela in giving one to Elliot in the latter's last task.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Especially pronounced in Weeks 1 and 2 where he blamed Danny's subteam for not standing up to the choice of Brixton as location in the former week and having no profit margin discussion in the latter.

Bushra

"Elizabeth is an uncontrollable, unprofessional...cartoon character. She definitely goes on about pointless things...at the end of the day, you know, those kind of actions are not someone that I would class as a professional businesswoman."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_12.jpg
  • Arch-Enemy: After Siobhan left, Bushra became a brief one to Elizabeth as she disliked the latter's unprofessional approach of interrupting a negotiation; after said negotiation was complete, Bushra summed up Elizabeth as the above quote.
  • A Taste of Defeat: Experienced this with the rest of Graphene in Week 4...despite viewers believing her team shouldn't have lost. After surviving the boardroom on a losing team for the first time, she won the following task.
  • History Repeats: Was Project Manager in Week 2 and managed to win the task in question...much like Nurun from Series 10. The only difference was that Nurun was fired the next week after losing that week's task, while Bushra was still in the process until Week 9, having won the following Robots task and losing the task afterwards but still managing to avoid being brought into the boardroom by Siobhan.
  • Instant-Win Condition: Both teams in Week 2 made a pig's ear of interior design, but under Bushra's leadership, the girls won by default because they made the effort of at least keeping costs low.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Delivered one to Elizabeth after negotiations for bricks in the car:
"You don't actually own up to what you've done. You don't say "Guys, I'm sorry. I interrupted him. I look like a fool." What you do, is you come back and you go "Let me speak. Let me speak." and I'm actually tired of that. I've tried to be polite to you, but you don't listen."
  • Token Religious Teammate: The only observant Muslim among the candidates, though Siobhan did not realise this when selecting someone to buy wine.
  • Wall of Blather: Granted, she wasn't helped by Siobhan's poor delegation and indecisive leadership, but her talk about Wembley Stadium, was full of "facts" that anyone even vaguely familiar with English football would already have known, and was presented in a very halting and uncertain manner.
    • When it came back to Week 6 though, she managed to fix this issue and win again, probably due to Elizabeth's more competent leadership over Sarah-Jayne's.

Charles

"Is it possible to have a breakdown of the girls sold, hot versus..."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nintchdbpict0003560768381.jpg
  • Artistic License – Religion: Even though Charles is Jewish, he thought that a Turkish supermarket would sell a Jewish pastry despite Turkey being a Muslim majority country.
  • Bystander Syndrome: His downfall. He stood out of helping with the Doggy Day Care spa and did not even try to secure addition clients.
  • Can't Take Criticism: What Andrew accused him of in Week 1.
  • Expy: To Sofiane last year as they were both accused of being disruptive and one man teams. Though while Sofiane evolved into a lone wolf, Charles started as one yet managed to settle down as time goes along.
    • Also to Karthik from said previous year, as both men narrowly avoided being fired for their disruptive attitudes early on in the process (Karthik in Week 2 and Charles in Week 1). As the series continued, their attitudes began to improve, only to then be fired as PM for their completely hands-off leadership in their final task (Karthik in Week 7 and Charles in Week 8 respectively).
  • Global Ignorance: During the Bruges episode, he led the tour group in a circle for thirty minutes, whilst trying to find an entrance into the building housing Old St. John's Hospital, believing it was the hospital itself. Karren's remark was that he was 'stupid beyond belief'.
  • History Repeats: Made a similar error to the mistake Alana made the previous year.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: "We were never lost, I just couldn't find exactly the entrance I was looking for."
  • Jerkass Has a Point: He may or may not have been a Jerkass but he was valid in stating that Danny's leadership was virtually non existent.
  • No Good Deed Goes Un Punished: Stated in the first boardroom that Elliot had no right to be in the boardroom...so it made sense for Elliot to claim he was full of hot air.
  • Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies: Was one of the victims of the triple firing at the end of the Doggy Day Care task.
  • The Scapegoat: He was primarily blamed in the first task for being disruptive, even though he brought up some very useful points that Danny ignored anyway.

Anisa

"We might be fighting and stuff but I think it is driving us. We're all really competitive women and we all want to win, so we're just like at it."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_14.jpg
  • Insane Troll Logic: The following quote; while Jade had a more justifiable reason to put herself forward including branding and understanding the target market.
"I would like to put myself forward as well, just because I absolutely love robots."
  • No Respect Girl: Not many of the candidates had much respect for her and almost never let her become Project Manager. It was further lampshaded during her firing that people didn't seem to have faith in her.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Was on the losing team for the Bruges task all because Sarah-Jayne put her on the tour and in charge of the facts, which she could not deliver on.
  • Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies: Was one of the victims of the triple firing at the end of the Doggy Day Care task.
  • Wall of Blather: More so than Bushra in Week 6 during her time as a tour guide.

Andrew

"With all due respect, this is half the problem: Your inability to take criticism and listen to what people say and make a constructive decision on what is being said. You just can't do it, you're impossible to talk to.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_1.jpg
  • Cold Ham: He may not be as energetic as Karthik the previous year, but showed shades of it when he was project manager.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: His decision to use Harrison as a singer instead of splashing out £700 for an entertainer actually paid off, helping them to win the task. Had they spent the £700, they'd have made barely half as much profit as the other team.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: As Lord Sugar was delivering Bait-and-Switch comments to Joanna's team, Andrew can be seen smiling as Lord Sugar praises Vitality...but when the results are announced, the smile drops.
  • Large Ham / No Indoor Voice: "ARE WE GONNA WIN THIS?!"
  • Manchild: Karen accused him of being this after he swore in front of a client. And that was in the episode where was fired.
  • Precision F-Strike: Uttered this in front of a potential client during negotiations (though thanks to sensible censors we did not hear it).
  • Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies: Was one of the victims of the triple firing at the end of the Doggy Day Care task.
  • The Scrooge: Much like Yasmina in a similar task during Season 5, he insisted on paying the absolute minimum possible for food and drink for their corporate event, to the point of having Harrison sing to the guests instead of hiring an actual entertainer. It actually worked, too, as the team won.
    • This trope was somewhat exaggerated compared to the last person who went with this strategy in the form of Season 8's eventual runner up, Tom with Andrew deciding to serve cheesy wotsits and crisps from paper plates. No wonder the You're Fired audience felt like he shouldn't have won.

Sajan

"There's nothing about that moodboard that would have made us win that task or lose that task."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_6_4.jpg
  • Alliterative Name: Sajan Shah.
  • Goofy Suit: Wore one in Week 4 when he was on the popcorn stall team.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence:
Sajan: "At the end of the day, I think art is defined in different ways. It's a way to escape and sort of draw the way...
    Lord Sugar: "Rubbish."
  • Insane Troll Logic: His justification as to using suitcases for his team's room feature as a way of storing your clothes. The response:
Karren Brady: "So take your clothes out of your own suitcase and put them in someone else's?"
  • Pointy-Haired Boss: A more literal example than Ross as by his image.
  • Reality Show Genre Blindness: He had clearly forgotten the lesson taught by the second season of Young Apprentice, namely that any savings one might get from trying to shop in the comparatively cheaper outer areas of London will be outweighed by the amount of time it actually takes to get there, leaving much less time for locating products and negotiating for them — and any resulting fines for being late or failing to find an item will completely obliterate any possible savings.
  • Skewed Priorities: Seemed to think it was more important to get back on time than purchasing all the items, even though the fines for doing so would be much bigger. While the fine for lateness was increased this year, meaning that failing to purchase one item would incur a smaller fine than being late so long as it wasn't worth more than about £50, the fines for failing to purchase three items vastly outnumbered the money they saved by arriving back on time.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: After Harrison and his sub team failed to get an Amstrad computer (one seller had been contacted by both teams and would give the computer to whoever could get there first, which Graphene did.), Sajan's intentions were to phone another person who had the Amstrad computer. Instead of asking him to wait until they came to them, he decided to have the man take the Amstrad computer and meet him halfway at Canary Wharf...Only for Sajan to cancel the appointment.
    • What makes this even worse was that the seller was in the middle of his tea.

Sarah-Jayne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sarah_jayne.jpg
"I'm laughing at the situation cos all I've heard for the last ten minutes is bla-bla-bla-bla-bla! I've had enough. I'm sick of it, for Christ's sake. We're meant to be pulling together and focusing on the task. I've had enough, of like a drill going through my temples. That's why I'm laughing, because if I didn't laugh I'd probably...combust!"
  • Celebrity Resemblance: Looks a bit like Jenna Coleman.
  • My Nayme Is: The Jane in her name is spelt with a Y (Jayne).
  • One-Steve Limit: Played with; much like Christopher from Season 6, her name isn't quite the same as another candidate's (Sarah), but it's very close. Then again, shortening it to just "Jayne" would probably be no better, as then she could be confused with Jade.
  • Out of Focus: Didn't do much of note for the first five weeks, and stayed fairly anonymous during her turn as project manager in Week 6. This meant that while she wasn't really directly at fault for the loss, she couldn't really point to anything as a reason for Lord Sugar to keep her.

Ross

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_5.jpg
"I'm trying to actually explain. Preferably, not to be rude, but uninterrupted would be really helpful just so I can get something across."
  • Expy: To Nicholas from Season 4, in that he couldn't help but brag about his IQ and qualifications in the boardroom, which ended up playing a big role in getting him fired.
  • Insufferable Genius: Talked down to the audience on You're Fired, suggesting they wouldn't recognise the word 'plethora'. They didn't warm to him.
  • Mercy Kill: Got one of the more gentle firings so far this year with Lord Sugar simply calling him a fish out of water as well as wishing him all the best in his future.
  • Pointy-Haired Boss
    • Epic Fail: Not quite as big an example as the previous week, but led (reluctantly) the boys to their second defeat. What was their margin? 12% in contrast to the girls' 56%. Note that the other team didn't do a particularly impressive job either, but seeing how they spent less than half of what Ross's team did to achieve largely the same results, it was a no-brainer to award them the win.
  • No Social Skills: Didn't seem to relate to people well, and finished his first team meeting as project manager by awkwardly asking if they should "touch each other" (meaning...high-five).
  • Tempting Fate: Was either ballsy or stupid enough to try talking back to Lord Sugar in the boardroom. Note that the few previous candidates who've tried this (including Ghazal from Season 3, Philip from Season 5 and Paul in Season 12) got instantly fired, but Ross actually managed to survive, probably because of the ludicrous arguments that Jeff put up in his own defence.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Admitted on You're Fired, that he would underperform on his last task from the start.

Siobhan

"Whatever's happened, we just need to let it go. (singing) Let it go, let it go..."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_8.jpg
  • Artistic License – Religion: Put Bushra in charge of the wine despite being oblivious to Bushra being a Muslim and the fact that she doesn't drink for religious reasons.
  • Crack Defeat: Despite the fact that she was not particularly liked by viewers, there was a surprising backlash about her firing. Not so much down to the fact that she was fired, but the fact that the feeling was Graphene had actually done a better job at the task.
  • Epic Fail: Runs a wedding business, yet failed as Project Manager on an events task.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Became this in Week 3 on her sub team.
  • Graceful Loser: In her taxi ride, she openly admitted that Elizabeth and Joanna defended themselves better in the final boardroom than she did, and that based on the task, she was probably better off focusing on her own business rather than trying to get Lord Sugar's investment.
  • Honour Before Reason: Put customer satisfaction above making a profit on the above task.
  • Malaproper: Her made up word of "faffling." in the first task and in the third task where she believes the past tense of "undermine" is "underminded".
  • The Rival: To Elizabeth.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy:
    • Believed that they'd need to turn the Fanservice up a notch in order to sell their burgers to men. A strategy that was commonplace and almost expected on the U.S. edition, but has never been looked on very kindly in the UK series, with Karren even telling her that the idea was inappropriate.
    • On the task that ultimately saw her fired after losing as project manager, she decided to prioritise customer satisfaction over profit. While probably trying to avoid any risk of the customer asking for a refund, she ended up spending far too much trying to satisfy them, which resulted in the team losing.

Elliot

"Lord Sugar, no one is proud of that board and it's...it's a disgrace."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_16.jpg
  • Artistic Licence – Geography: In the second task, he came up with the idea of using yellow for the boy's hotel room. Okay, understandable since it was yellow through the whole hotel...but the shade of yellow was the colour of cheese, which when combined with the red and blue, ended up resembling the flag of Romania:
Lord Sugar: "If you're going to be going British, it's red, white and blue as far as I'm concerned."
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Owns a legal firm and was accused of little contribution by Lord Sugar. But when Danny brought Elliot back into the boardroom, he put up a very spirited defence against Danny; a much better defence than the last two people who had legal backgrounds Season 2's Karen and Season 4's Nicholas. Unfortunately, it did not seem to work when he ended up in the boardroom again.
  • Blatant Lies: Claimed to have had a role in selecting the toy robot the team would sell, when he actually had no role in it.
  • Bystander Syndrome: Accused of doing nothing in the first tasks, which is why he was first brought into the boardroom. He was further accused of being this by some of the other candidates, Michaela and Harrison twice. This was lampshaded by Lord Sugar:
Lord Sugar: "I'm a great believer in that saying, no smoke without fire. And all these other candidates here seem to keep asking, what do you actually do? So can you run through what you've actually done?"
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: While he never had as much quirks as perhaps Season 4's Lucinda, Michaela felt he was first in another task and also told him that it was if he was on another planet.
  • Expy: Upon his firing, last year's winner Alana and fellow contestant Aleksandra described him as being this to Oliver from their season as they both had triple barrel names (Oliver's was Oliver Nohl-Oser while Elliot's was Elliot Van Emden) and were both fired in the third week. The main differences being that Oliver had at least, a victory behind him despite flopping as project manager while Elliot had no victories behind him and received a less stinging firing from Lord Sugar who simply told him that his demeanour was not up his alley and was not cut out to be his business partner.
  • Glory Hound: What Harrison accused him of being along with sitting on the fence, particularly during a Confession Cam after his team lost the third task with Harrison stating that "if it goes right, he'll pitch in. If it goes wrong, he'll say "I did raise the point.""
  • Irony: Claimed on entering the process that "Lord Sugar will not fire Elliot Van Emden." Which would occur in week 3.
  • Red Shirt: Maybe not so much as other candidates that have gone early, but his promotional picture has vibes of this compared to the appearance of confidence of other candidates' promotional pictures from both this series and in earlier series.
  • Third-Person Person: The above quote

Jeff

"I have a background in break dancing and you have to be creative to do breakdancing!"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_18.jpg
  • Bystander Syndrome: Along with Elliot, he was called out for doing nothing for both weeks. Though unlike Elliot who survived the first week, Jeff was not so fortunate.
  • Catchphrase: Had a habit during his time on the show of saying "This is not a X task! This is a Y task!"
  • Expy: To Edward from Series 7 in the sense that Jeff tried to tell Lord Sugar in the boardroom that he was more than just about numbers like Edward wanted to prove he was more than an accountant. Unfortunately, Lord Sugar was not impressed by both their pleas, yet Jeff managed to live into Week 2.
  • Genre Blind: For some reason, he believed that the team were not going to go through all of the calculations for the task...even though that was the point of the whole task.
  • Hidden Depths: Has a background in breakdancing, according to him.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Played with. After his firing, James told the other candidates that Jeff felt he should stay in the process because he was a good break dancer.
  • Irony: After he was fired, Jeff claimed that "In 20 years, I'll be hosting The Apprentice because I'm that damn successful." despite being second out the door after Danny. What makes this statement ironic was that after he was fired from the show, Jeff was reported as being unemployed, having resigned from his day job in order to go on the show.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: When he entered the process, he claimed he would "throw people over the bus and throw people under the bus.". After his second (and last) loss, he repeatedly made claims that he had been thrown under the bus.
  • Too Incompetent to Operate a Blanket: While he wasn't the Project Manager for Week two, Lord Sugar's parting shot was:
"I wouldn't trust you with a hotel in Monopoly."

Danny

""I told you I'm leaving the kitchen, meet us in Brixton. And then you're going, pricing, pricing, this, that..."
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_apprentice_2017_candidates_17.jpg
  • Celebrity Resemblance: He claimed that people told him that he looked like Will Smith.
  • Epic Fail: Became the first project manager since Felicity all the way back in Season 7 to steer his team to a loss, and also the first project manager to oversee a loss on the very first task (not counting Jordan on Junior Apprentice).
  • Nice Guy: He was a terrible leader, but at least he was good to be around. On You're Fired, Lord Sugar called him a Chirpy Chappie and said he seemed to get along with other people.
  • Never My Fault: Was adamant that Charles was mostly, if not solely, to blame for the loss when it was his own indecisiveness and complete lack of pricing strategy that was more directly at fault.
  • Skewed Priorities: The decisions he made as project manager. All of them.
  • Two First Names: Danny Grant.
