"I'll do my best, for the sake of resurrecting the Demon Queen."

Kazuto was an intermediate swordsman who had outgrown his novice status. As a fairly experienced individual, he had made enough money, made enough mistakes, and survived long enough to make his way in the world. Despite lacking somewhat in raw strength, he's grown seasoned to Dungeon Crawling to the point of gaining awareness about dungeon themselves.

At the beginning of the game, his latest party abandoned him to settle down with their girlfiends. Left alone with scarce money, he began to wonder about his place in the world, who seems to be keen on preventing him to continue his life as an adventurer...

One fateful day, he was approached by a mysterious demon by the name of Fuu, who was searching for a special someone. One thing led to another, and he became entangled in the revival of the Demon Queen Karin, having been recruited in her ranks for his knowledge and love of dungeons.

  • Adaptational Badass: Unlike his original counterpart of Koihime†Musou who was a fairly average fighter at best, Kazuto fares better in Suzukuri Dungeon as an adventurer with a good knowledge of dungeons and actively works in Karin's army as a commander and protector of her dungeon.
  • Genre Savvy: Knows a few things about Dungeon Crawling as a concept, which is why Fuu recruited him in the first place.
  • The One Guy: He's the most prominent male character of the game, due to his role as the protagonist.
  • You Are in Command Now: After being recruited by Karin, he's quickly given command over her lair and her army, mostly due to a lack of commanders at the time, but also for his savviness on dungeons.

The Demon Queen and her servants

"World conquest? It is not worth my time."

Sealed deep within the walls of Mt. Giou, the legendary Demon Queen Karin waited for nearly a thousand years before waiting for her faithful servant Fuu to free her from her prison, due to a mistake of hers in an insurance. Surprisingly, she didn't give in to anger and despair, instead quietly waiting for an opportunity to be free once more, and discovering how the world and humanity changed in her absence. Uninterested with world domination and tyranny, she instead finds enjoyment in mundane and intellectual activites.

Waiting for a long time, she hopes for a certain someone to come to her and help her make up for her numerous years of boredom, by spending time with her, recruiting servants and building for her a magnificent dungeon fit for a Demon Queen, in which both demons and humans adventurers could enjoy once in their lives.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While retaining her role as the noble queen of an entire army, she turns out to be more benevolent than her original counterpart Sousou, the Queen of Gi and recurring antagonist of the Koihime†Musou series. Conversely, the Demon Queen Karin has no plans for world domination, and is simply interested in learning more about mankind and its customs.
  • Big Good: As the Demon Queen and the direct superior of Kazuto, followed by the rest of her servants
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Downplayed. She's no "hero", but she clearly displays kindness to her servants and make a point of not killing nor wounding too much intruders in her dungeon. Instead, she's depicted as mostly neutral to human affairs and simply wants to do her own thing.
  • Hikikomori: Enforced. As long as the seals are intact, she's effectively stuck in her castle and unable to go outside, with most physical objects phasing through her. To relieve her boredom, she usually read books or comics to learn about the history of the world.

"Here's a catalog to help you, Mister."

An old servant of the Demon Queen Karin, who recently began to work towards her resurrection, having forgotten about it for centuries. As the president and head merchant of Gyunguska Inc, she made numerous connections across the demon world in order to collect as much resources and money as possible, with limited success. With few options left, she instead turned her eyes to the human world to search for another way of earning money, looking around for prospects and independent adventurers to do her bidding.

She eventually finds one in the person of Kazuto, who recently lost his party and was searching for a job. Sensing his love for dungeons and his despair, she lured him to her master's prison with money, only to have him coerced into working for her. Using her powers and influence across the demon world, she becomes Kazuto's main advisor to help him finance and build a dungeon for her master.

  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Downplayed in regards to her original counterpart, as she still retains her slow speech pattern and her puppet Houkei, but isn't a Sleepyhead anymore.
  • Funny Robot: She doesn't fight, instead using Houkei, a mechanical puppet of her doing.
  • High-Class Glass: Alongside her hat and brand new costume, she also has a monocle to display her status as a rich merchant.
  • Never Bareheaded: She's always seen wearing a top hat alongside her suit.
  • Third-Person Person: Fuu exclusively refers to herself in the third person, emphasizing her overall weirdness.

    Karon

"Do you want to train together?"

A berserker who answered to the call of the Demon Queen, only to get lost in her dungeon, unable to find her way in the large labyrinth. Fighting strong foes is her main motto and serving under Karin would gave her a good opportunity to quell her thirst for battles. However, her first meeting with our heroes didn't turn out very well...Joining a pack of adventurers, she instead forced her way into the dungeon, unaware of its true purpose: "I guess I'll just have to break down the walls and move on."

As she was destroying much of the dungeon's rooms due to her severe hunger, she was branded as too dangerous and was eventually captured by Kazuto and Fuu. She's later revealed to be the latest descendent of Shikou Karon, the legendary demon warrior whom Karin was acquainted with before her sealing. With the promise of good battles and enjoyment along the way, she's quickly recruited as part of Karin's army to protect the dungeon from intruders.

  • Blood Knight: The main reason she choose to join Karin was to fight off strong foes under her command.
  • Carry a Big Stick: Her weapon is a big mace.
  • Dumb Muscle: She isn't the smartest tool in the shed, preferring athletics over academics.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Her first scene has her breaking through the dungeon in a fit of rage because she was hungry and longing for a fight, but falling for the most obvious traps and has a tendency to get lost, presenting her as a fairly powerful, yet simple-minded warrior.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: She's the first boss of the game, and her high health pool will usually allow her to reach the hoard if the dungeon doesn't have good defenses and traps.

    Keifa

"I'll do anything for Your Devilishness!"

A strange girl experienced in magical arts, who also has a career in peddling. For some time, she was attracted by the demons of legend, and fascinated by their monarch, the Demon Queen Karin. Wanting to be a part of her history, she made plans to collect resources as a merchant and attempt to enter the dungeon alongside adventurers to reach her. As her business caused some havoc at the entrance of the dungeon, she was eventually captured during a raid, and brought before Karin, who was interested in her abilities and knowledge.

More than willing to serve under Karin, she quickly join her ranks as her self-proclaimed advisor, and dreams of helping her conquer the world, despite her lack of interest in doing so. She also hates Kazuto for occupying the most important position of building the dungeon for her queen's resurrection.

  • Cute Witch: Downplayed. She appears as one due to her petite stature and use of magic...Until she starts talking with Kazuto.
  • Dark Is Evil: Played with. She has dark clothing, and she dreamed of being a servant of the Demon Queen, ready to help her with her plans of conquest, before restraining herself after learning she isn't a malevolent being as she expected.
  • Does Not Like Men: Before being recruited into the Demon Queen's ranks, she exclusively choose female companions in her adventures, and has a policy of lowering prices for women, while adding some digits for men. She also has a hard time working with Kazuto, despite his role in building the dungeon in the first place.
  • Hate at First Sight: Quickly ignores Kazuto's presence when recruited by Karin, but she reluctantly accepts to work with him, making no secret that she hates him.
  • Stalker with a Crush: She has an unhealthy obsession with Karin, to the point of willing to betray humanity (or so she thinks, since Karin isn't interested in world conquest) just to serve her.
