X00: Chimera

Physical Description: Varies, adapting to its circumstances as necessary. Chimera currently weighs approximately one hundred and thirty-seven kilograms, though is capable of shedding excess weight in biomass should the creature deem it “necessary” (see Attachment 14c for further details.) So-called “redevelopment” for the conditions on Severniy Norin have resulted in the creature adopting a thick coating of white fur, similar in appearance and function to that of Ursus maritimus specimen it previously fed on. Chimera is extremely adaptive, though it seems to be incapable of flight. The nature of its decision-making ability with regards to its adaptation is unknown. It has demonstrated the ability to employ several different problem-solving strategies when presented with puzzles and other obstacles to its preferred organic nutrients.

Safety Procedures: The creature has demonstrated an inability to process radionuclides, which have been injected into its tissue to ensure it can be monitored. Missile target lock with XBGM-19D Scythe units installed on the NS Frontier will be maintained offshore throughout the course of the study. Use of pheromone “lures” will continue to be the primary means of recovery.

X01: Vermiculus

Physical Description: The individual unit - the worm body - that makes up the Vermiculus prototype as a whole is a three inch long, roughly pencil-thick automaton consisting of a tubular mechanical body with a number of vine-like fleshy synthetic strips coiling around the worm in a series of helices. There are no apparent means of sensory organ approximations upon the worm body; similar to actual earthworms the Vermiculus can detect its surroundings by way of tremorsense, along with CLASSIFIED capabilities.

Safety Procedures: Vermiculus responds to a killcode on an unused military radio frequency that will induce the horde to the location of the transmitter within the airport. At that location there are powerful electromagnets capable of disabling the full body of Vermiculus at once upon remote confirmation of the security codes provided to both Cmdr. Gardner and Dr. Sycamore. The horde can also be tracked by this same killcode via a dumb signal that will automatically ping the location of all individual units of the machine via GPS, allowing for surgical elimination via missile strike as required.

X02: Revenant

Physical Description:Development Group A’s entry. Alterations to the subjects vary to some degree. Consistent absence of skin pigmentation and conspicuous behavioral patterns give the project its name. Hair loss is a consistent symptom of treatment associated with the Revenant project.

They continue to be unable to speak intelligible sentences, but Dr. Leander’s hypothesis as to their cognitive ability seems to be correct, as subjects have been successfully taught American Sign Language by Dr. Hatfield for the purposes of communication and planning among themselves. Retrograde amnesia continues to be present in 100% of the test subjects; as this is a desirable outcome, no further alterations in this area have proven to be necessary.

Subjects have substantially increased physical endurance and capability compared to control group. Can function at a tactically significant level following what would otherwise have been grievous wounds, including partial and complete amputation of limbs, significant blood loss, and GSW that would normally result in incapacitation.

Subjects have been issued simple armaments (hand-to-hand weapons) and standardized survival gear (military surplus) for the duration of the study. Subjects have also been issued scant rations so as to test adaptations detailed on P.6, Section B.01 of Dev Group A’s report.

As a consequence of these adaptations, 80% of subjects suffer from Pica-like symptoms, and Dr. Hatfield has notes that they require encouragement to avoid consuming hazardous or inedible substances.

Safety Procedures: Subjects are fitted by Janus-Hayes Safeguard™ restraint collars. In the event of a containment failure, the Safeguard™ collars should be remotely detonated from the control center immediately. While it is unlikely the subjects can survive swimming in the ocean surrounding Severniy Norin, extreme exposure should not be considered sufficient to render the subjects inert. Cmdr. Gardner’s team has been advised to remain on standby as a contingency in the event that tactical intervention is required.
