    Founding Members
Tim Finn

Brian Timothy Finn was the lead singer, lead composer and occasional guitarist of Split Enz from it's start until 1984, just before the last album was recorded. Initially, he'd put melodies and ornamentation to Phil Judd's tunes, and was also the designated pianist until Eddie Rayner was recruited. Once Judd left, Tim led the band until he left.

Phil Judd

Phil Judd was the rhythm/lead guitarist of Split Enz from it's founding in 1972 to his departure in early 1977. He was responsible for writing the chords and lyrics of the bulk of Enz material in their early years, and also served as the second vocalist of the group.

Mike Chunn

Jonathan Michael Chunn was the original bassist in the group, remaining until agoraphobia forced his departure in 1977. He was the one who pushed the band to become electric, and was also responsible for suggesting Neil Finn as a replacement for Phil.

    Early Members
Eddie Rayner

One of two band members to appear on all nine albums, Anthony Edward Rayner was the keyboardist for the group, having joined in February 1974 and remained until the group folded.

Noel Crombie

The other band member to appear on all nine albums, Geoffrey Noel Crombie was the percussionist and art director for the group, having joined in May 1974 and remained until the group folded.

Emlyn Crowther

Paul Emlyn Crowther was the first drummer to appear on record with the Enz, playing from 1973 to late 1976.

Wally Wilkinson

Lead guitarist for the band between 1973 and 1975, Paul Wally Wilkinson was with the group for the first album.

Rob Gillies

Rob Gillies was the hornsman for the Enz, playing saxophone and trumpet between 1974 and 1978 and on the second and third albums. Initially Noel's partner in terms of artistic skill, Gillies went on to do set design for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

    Later Members
Malcolm Green

One of three non-Kiwis to play in the band, Malcolm was hired in London in late 1976 after a string of auditions. He remained in the band until his firing in early 1981, by which point the band had become world-famous.

Nigel Griggs

Hired three days before Neil Finn in April 1977, Nigel was the second non-Kiwi to join. He replaced Mike Chunn in the line-up, and remained until the band folded.

Neil Finn

At the tender age of 19, Neil was hired in April 1977 as Phil Judd's replacement. Not an accomplished guitarist upon joining, his skills grew over time. He quickly became the second singer/songwriter in the band, and penned a number of hits for the band.

Paul Hester

Hired for the Conflicting Emotions tour onwards, Paul Hester was the last non-Kiwi and only Australian to play in the band. After the band folded, he and Neil Finn formed a little band called Crowded House.
