Volume 1

    Cade Skywalker

Cade Skywalker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cade_skywalker_swleu_4659.jpg
"I know who I am... I am a Jedi."

The hero of the story, but hero may be a loose term to describe him. Cade was a Jedi Padawan who was separated from his fellow Jedi and family when the Sith attacked the Jedi Temple on Ossus. After being rescued by a pirate crew, he became a pirate himself.

Despite his prestigious lineage as a direct descendant of the legendary Luke Skywalker, Cade doesn't want to know anything about either Jedi or Sith; he just want to be left alone. But as he's about to discover, sometimes things aren't the way one wishes, and that we must take what is given.

  • Anti-Hero: Is a borderline '90s Anti-Hero turned Unscrupulous Hero through the main series. By Legacy — War, he's more of a Pragmatic Hero.
  • Badass Longcoat: Frequently wears one, which sets him apart from the Jedi robes of his ancestors.
  • Bounty Hunter: Became one after leaving the Jedi.
  • The Cameo: He, Jariah, and Deliah make a cameo in Legacy II as scamming Sauk by selling him a stabilizing coil for an expensive price. Doubles as One Degree of Separation.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Compared to his ancestors.
    • Luke was an idealistic farm boy who, after a brief period of hesitation, embraced his destiny as a Jedi Knight. Cade was trained a Jedi from birth but spent a lot of his young adulthood hiding from it as a hardened, cynical criminal.
    • Anakin looked to the Dark Side to save his loved ones, his obsession driving him to evil. Cade actually had the power that Anakin sought, but renounced any interest in the Force a long time ago.
  • Combat Medic: He's the most powerful Force healer in the galaxy by a wide margin. He's also a Skywalker, with all the fighting skills and Force power normally associated with that bloodline.
  • Dating Catwoman: He and Darth Talon have a brief fling as part of his plan to convince the Sith he had joined them, and after Talon insists that he has genuine feelings towards her.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: At the end of the first Legacy run, he almost commits a Heroic Sacrifice to permanently kill Krayt via Taking You with Me (as Krayt could just use Cade's body to revive himself) by piloting themselves into a star, but Luke convinces him to live on. Jariah and Deliah are able to retrieve him afterwards thanks to his mother putting a tracker on the locket she gave him before he set off to kill Krayt, and the trio moves forward with their lives, with Cade accepting his identity as a Jedi. While the One Sith has gone into hiding and will strike again in the future, and Krayt may come back, for now (or at least after Vol 2.), the galaxy is at peace.
  • Functional Addict: Cade frequently does drugs, such as death sticks, to silence the Force.
  • Healing Hands: Dark transfer. To wit; it can heal normally fatal wounds, and also kill much more efficiently than any known weapon. Two big drawbacks; it's fueled by the dark side (the Jedi on Ossus were trying to figure out how to fix this), and the recipient must accept it, or at least not actively reject it, or it won't work. Through Character Development, Cade eventually figures out how to use it with the light side of the Force instead.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Due to his issues, he ends up falling to the dark side at one point and the One Sith attempts to recruit him, but he returns to the light.
  • The Hero: He's forced to take this role by virtue of his bloodline only. If he had his own way, he'd still be smuggling and racking up bounties in the Outer Rim with no worries.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: After he comes into conflict with the Empire, Imperial media portrays him as a terrorist.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Syn, the two having been best friends since Rav found him and Syn convinced the pirate to keep Cade around. While Syn has some trouble accepting that Cade is a former Jedi, he ultimately lets go of his anger and agrees to follow Cade in his fight against the One Sith.
  • It's Personal: Cade develops a grudge and feud with several Sith:
    • With Darth Nihl, who's the man who killed his father at Ossus, with Cade attacking him at Vendaxa and eventually defeating and mutilating him during their second duel in the Sith Temple of Coruscant.
    • He hunts down Vul Isen after his poisoning of Mon Calamari and Da Soocha. While Isen didn't do anything to Cade personally, or even met him, his poisoning of Dac was such an abominable and heinous action that Cade makes it his mission to stop and kill him.
    • With Darth Krayt, due to the latter's part in the tragedies of Cade's life and his hunt for Cade to use his healing powers for himself. After seeing a vision of him fighting Darth Krayt, Cade decides that his destiny is to stop Krayt once and for all.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Cade at the start is an utter jackass but he eventually begins to soften up to the people he loves.
  • Laser Blade: In his youth as a Jedi, Cade had his own blue-bladed lightsaber. He currently wields a green-bladed lightsaber that once belonged to his father, Kol Skywalker (though it was blue at the time).
  • Lovable Rogue: By the end, he's still a Bounty Hunter but has become more altruistic and accepted his destiny as a Jedi.
  • Love Redeems: What is it that finally allows Cade to use his Dark Transfer healing ability without the use of the dark side and to staunchly become an enemy of the Sith once and for all? His love for Deliah Blue.
  • My Girl Is a Slut: Gender Flipped. Cade's primary Love Interest Deliah Blue is a Zeltron, whose hat is being pheromonal, empathic Pink-Skinned Space Babes that believe in Eternal Sexual Freedom. As such, she doesn't appear to mind him sleeping around as long as she knows about it (there's even a brief scene where the two of them are shown frolicking with several other Zeltron women), she'd just really rather it not include Darth Talon. And she gets more than a little jealous of his connection with Azlyn Rae, to her own discomfort.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: Cade loses his father at the start of the series and the pain this causes him, along with his inability to properly deal with it, causes him to strongly cling to those he does manage to develop bonds with in order to avoid suffering the same pain of loss ever again. This leads to him unlocking and using his Dark Transfer ability to heal his Jedi Master, Wolf Sazen, shortly after losing his father, which in turn causes Cade to call on the dark side of the Force. Using the ability afterwards constantly causes him to get closer and closer to the Dark Side and he continually uses it to avoid losing those he loves, such as Jariah and Blue. This reaches a tipping point when he uses the ability to forcibly keep Azlyn Rae alive, even though she begs him to let her go, saying that she is ready to accept death. Though she does end up surviving, Azlyn cuts off all ties with Cade afterwards, telling him that he forced his own will upon her. When Cade responds that he loves her, she tells him that he doesn't love anyone and only cares about himself.
  • One Degree of Separation: As mentioned in The Cameo above, he and the others met Sauk, so they were pretty close to meeting Ania, another heroic descendant of Anakin and Padmé.
  • Psychic Powers: The usual that both Jedi and Sith possess, including, but not limited to telekinesis, the ability to sense emotions, and mild Telepathy.
  • Redemption Equals Death: Subverted. He slays Darth Krayt but starts Hearing Voices and becomes convinced the Sith Lord is trying to demonically possess him, so he tries to fly a ship into Coruscant's sun. Luke appears to him a final time and convinces him to bail out. Krayt's corpse burns up with the ship, the voices stop (it's implied either his angst was making him imagine things or Krayt was kept from possessing him by Luke or some other means), and Cade is rescued by his friends.
  • Refusal of the Call: He knows fully well how badly it went for the Skywalker family (and everyone that married into it). Let's see... Anakin was a Fallen Hero who became a monster because of Despair Event Horizon; the fate of the galaxy fell on Luke's shoulders, meaning he has to clean up after everything; Mara had a Heel–Face Turn but was eventually killed by her own nephew and left Luke a widow; Jaina had to kill her own Face–Heel Turn brother, Jacen, and Jacen's turn to the dark side was catalyzed after their younger brother, Anakin, had died; Leia lost her adoptive family, homeworld, (indirectly by the actions of her biological father), and she and Han end up losing two sons and Chewbacca; Allana was believed to be in danger and lost her father, who was trying to keep her safe by turning to the dark side himself like his grandfather, his father Kol dies a Heroic Sacrifice, and possibly even more tragedies in between. In an early chapter, Cade tells Luke's Force ghost flat-out that the Skywalkers, and the Jedi Order at large, keep bailing the galaxy out of trouble and then having the Ungrateful Bastards turn on them.
  • Screw Destiny: To the point that his father and Luke appear to him to get him back on track. Mara Jade and Anakin appear to him as well, to the point that Anakin as Vader shows up at one point as well to get him to snap out of it. When Darth Vader of all people shows up to tell you to rethink your choices, you know it's serious. Of course, Cade being Cade, he is stubborn about it. Cue Luke intermittently nagging him about it.
  • Shatterpoint Tap: In addition to his healing powers, Cade learns Mace Windu's signature ability to perceive exploitable weaknesses in objects and people's bodies, though in the series it never develops to Windu's level of mastery (Windu was able to perceive shatterpoints in events and interpersonal relationships as well).
  • Slowly Slipping Into Evil: Zig-Zagged. While he does come close and even uses the dark side on several occasions, using Force choking and lightning several times, Cade never fully falls to the dark side, and in particular is never tempted to join the Sith because he isn't interested in power. Celeste Morne, who had spent several millennia alongside the spirit of the Sith Lord Karness Muur and flirted many times with the dark side herself, was shocked by how easily Cade could come close to the dark side and yet be so resistant to its lure. Still, he overall trends downward, and only chooses to fully commit himself to the light in the last quarter of the series.
  • Sword and Gun: His most used weapon is a lightsaber, but unlike the Jedi (or the Sith) he isn't above using blasters, sometimes at the same time.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: When he taps into the dark side.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Comes with the name of Skywalker.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: After he gets captured by the One Sith, he decides to learn from them and Krayt assigned Talon to be his teacher. They're shown kissing, and Talon is later shown leaving him in bed.

    Jariah Syn

Jariah Syn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jariahsyn.jpg
"Always a need for boom... and Syn is boom's DADDY!"

Cade's best friend and fellow pirate, Jariah would do anything for Cade. He's an expert in any kind of weapons, especially the rare ones, such as Yuuzan Vong bioweapons, and explosives.

  • Bounty Hunter: Along with Cade and Deliah. He prefers to bring in Jedi dead, even with the reward being lessened.
  • Broken Pedestal: Toward his father after Rasi Tuum told him his version of the story surrounding his father's death and revealed what he and Ravv were truly doing to minors, forcing him to realize that his father was a murderer killing and raiding for pleasure.
  • The Casanova: Syn is the only one on the Mynock not in a committed relationship which he uses to run wild, including with Cade's cousin Ahnah.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: He appears to be drawn to resemble Gary Dourdan.
  • Dreadlock Warrior: He keeps his hair in dreadlocks and battles with explosives and Yuuzhan Vong biotech.
  • Everyone Has Standards : Even though he hates Jedi for his father's death, he hates the Sith even more. He's also clearly disturbed by slavery, obviously feeling guilt for having unwittingly helped Rav take a girl and sell her to other criminals.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Cade, the two having been best friends since Rav found him and Syn convinced the pirate to keep Cade around. While Syn has some trouble accepting that Cade is a former Jedi, he ultimately lets go of his anger and agrees to follow Cade in his fight against the One Sith.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Syn is arguably the most amoral of the Mynock but he's also a good friend, a loyal partner, and ultimately willing to join the heroes' side and even reassure Cade about his guilt.
  • The Lancer: He serves as Cade's right hand man.
  • Loveable Rogue: He's an unapologetic criminal but there's a likability to him.
  • Mage Killer: Hates Jedi after seeing one kill his father. Specializes in Yuuzhan Vong weaponry, over which the Force has no control. This caused some friction between him and Cade when he reveals he's a Jedi, but they got over it.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Deliah, the two never have any hint of attraction but are rarely seen apart and are very close, with Jariah serving as a confident to Deliah's feelings about Cade and reassuring and encouraging her about her chances to be with Cade.
  • Scary Black Man: He's a thuggish guy who specializes in Yuuzhan Vong tech, which is both illegal and intimidating enough on it's own.
  • Stuff Blowing Up: He has a knack for explosives and states that he "lives for the boom".
  • Troubled Sympathetic Bigot: Towards Jedi because one killed his father. After meeting the Jedi who actually killed his father, he accepts that his father provoked his own death by being a vicious criminal, and lets go.
  • You Killed My Father: To the Jedi Rasi Tuum. Ultimately it turns out that his father had been butchering people for fun, and Rasi had given him the chance to come quietly only to be rebuffed.

    Deliah Blue

Deliah Blue

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1698478_deliahblue_lecg.jpg

The third member of Cade's crew, Deliah is a Zeltron woman with a knack for mechanics. Has an obvious crush on Cade, given the amount of flirtation she does around him.

  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: She's the main female member of the crew and 90% of her costumes leaves a good chunk of her midriff exposed.
  • Betty and Veronica: Despite being a smuggler and con artist by trade, she's the Betty: a genuinely sweet-tempered Nice Girl whom Cade says "makes the darkness go away". Also, her main rival for Cade's attentions is a Lord of the Sith of all people.
  • Bounty Hunter: Like the rest of the crew.
  • Breakout Character: Zeltron characters in other Star Wars titles became popular for a while after her introduction, with some even appearing in the reboot.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Played with. She clearly doesn't like Cade hanging out with other women, especially with his former love Azlyn Rae. This trait, as noted by Bantha Rawk, is very unusual for Zeltrons who are usually very promiscuous and totally fine with polygamy. However, she's also shown frolicking in a pool with him, Jariah, and several other Zeltron women, so maybe the takeaway, as Jariah implies at one point, is that she doesn't mind him casually sleeping around, just when the relationship is less than casual. Also, Darth Talon is right out.
  • Expy: Of Dani, the original Zeltron character from Star Wars (Marvel 1977).
  • First Girl Wins: The first run of Legacy ends with Cade and Deliah being together, though their future is not set in stone and can be prone to change.
  • Green-Skinned Space Babe: Due to being a Zeltron, she has red skin and blue hair, and is a subject of fanservice.
  • The Heart: Serves as the most moral and emotional center of Cade's group.
  • Morality Pet: To Jariah, being the one to persuade Jariah to not abandon Cade on Vendaxa and on Coruscant, convincing him that deep down both knew that Cade was a Jedi and that they blinded themselves willingly and to overcome his grudge toward Jedi.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Part of the Zeltrons' hat, though she subverts the Zeltron hat by pursuing a committed, long-term relationship with Cade.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: To the point she gets grumpy at being forced to wear a fully form-covering robe.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Despite belonging to a species known for its promiscuity and polygamy she only has eyes for Cade.
  • Woman Scorned: After Cade fooled around with Talon. They patched things up fairly quick, though.
  • Wrench Wench: She's the engineer of the Mynock

    R2-D2

R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/r2_legacy.png

A trusty R-series astromech droid that has served the Skywalker line for nearly two centuries, and is given to Cade partway through the series. Apparently, he was cared for by K'Kruhk in the meantime. He doesn't receive the usual attention he usually does though, but does get a few gags and plot-important moments.

For information on his appearances in other media, see Star Wars Theatrical Legends.

  • Demoted to Extra: He's basically just here to show that Cade isn't entirely the last remnant of his line.
  • Hero of Another Story: His adventures with K'Kruhk and whatever happened between him last being seen in Fate of the Jedi and showing up here about ninety-two years later.
  • Really 700 Years Old: By this point in the timeline, R2 is about a hundred and seventy years old, and has, by virtue of being a robot, outlived everyone in the Skywalker line up to Cade's generation.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Artoo doesn't exactly do a lot compared to his younger days, but what he does do — like say, rescuing Cade from a sun — is quite meaningful.

Volume Two

    Ania Solo

Ania Solo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ania_solo.jpg
"Not scum. Ania. Ania Solo."

A descendant of Han and Leia Organa Solo. Unlike some of her more famous relatives, she lives on the lower end of galactic society and operates a junkyard.

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's not specified how she's descended from Han and Leia. Considering Jaina's connection to the Fel family and Anakin Solo dying with no known offspring, Jacen, via Tenel Ka's daughter Allana (whom Han and Leia adopted after Legacy of the Force), is her most likely ancestor. Exactly why she's living a mundane lifestyle in the vein of Han and not some form of royalty like Leia or Allana is never explained.
  • Badass Normal: Seems to have gotten this from Han, showing no signs of Force-sensitivity.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • She has the same style of belt as Cade.
    • At least a couple of scenes depict her wielding blasters in much the same way her ancestor Han did.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Unlike Cade, who was raised in the New Jedi Order, Ania Solo's entire family branch seems to have disappeared back into the weeds of the galaxy. Her upbringing is rather more like Rey's in The Force Awakens, albeit a century later.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: The design on her signature hoodie.
  • The Gunslinger: Like Han before her, she's very handy with a blaster.
  • Goggles Do Nothing: She seems to think they're a necklace. Preview art shows her using them, though.
  • Generation Xerox: To some lesser extent, but her being a lower-end society civilian who quickly gets in over her head with the fate of the galaxy is very reminiscent of her ancestor Han's own adventures with Luke.
  • Jumped at the Call: Although she thought she was jumping at something else entirely.
  • Muggle Born of Mages: Despite her Skywalker ancestry (she's explicitly identified by Empress Marasiah as a distant relative), she never displays any ability to use the Force, and the Force-users she interacts with never consider trying to train her.
  • Quick Draw: Something she obviously got from Han. She even does this to someone behind her.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Her reaction to being told the government wants to let Darth Wredd kill his fellow Sith free of interference is to decide to hunt him down herself.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She occasionally puts it up.
  • Unknown Relative: She has no idea of her bevy badass and highly placed relatives, though it's suggested that she might later find out from her distant cousin, Empress Marasiah. Ironically, at the end of Volume II, she nearly bumps into Cade after Jariah sells Sauk a ship part.

    Sauk

Sauk

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/swlegacy_prisonerfloatingworld1.jpg

A survivor and refugee from the Destruction of Dac, Sauk is a friend of Ania's who gets dragged along as she gets in trouble with the local law.

  • Asteroid Miners: He worked on an asteroid mining ice, a job he considers relatively comfortable considering his situation.
  • Fish People: Due to being a Mon Calamari.
  • Only Sane Man: Wants to get a slightly better job as an engineer on a starship versus vast wealth.

    AG-37

AG-37

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ag37.jpg

An old IG-series assassin droid and a regular customer of Ania's.

  • Badass Longcoat: Wears one despite being a droid.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Appeared on the Hardman variant cover for issue 1, despite not being seen until issue 2.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: His coat has one sleeve.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Gets cut in half by Darth Wredd, but since he's a droid, it just leaves him griping about how inconveniencing it is to Ania.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: He saves Ania from getting burnt away by acid rain by carrying her to safety, but he damages his internal processing as a result and urges Ania to leave him. He gets better shortly after, though.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: He's a high-end assassin droid who pilots a water freighter.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's old enough to remember the golden years of the Jedi, although he didn't specify if it was the old Jedi Order or Luke's Jedi. It is shown at the very least he met Han Solo and Chewbacca, the latter of whom died over a century ago.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: He behaves quite humanly, engages Ania in casual conversation, worries about the state of the galaxy, and wears a coat. Of course, he still looks very much like a droid.

    Jao Assam

Jao Assam

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jao_assam.jpg

A young Imperial Knight who goes rogue to help her pursue Darth Wredd.

  • Sixth Ranger: Joins Ania's group, and travels with her alone after they decide to go after Wredd.

    Unnamed Imperial communications droid

Imperial communications droid

  • Companion Cube: It clearly has more self-awareness then droids of its type usually show, but is nowhere near AG-37 or R2-D2 in sapience.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": It is never given a proper or permanent name, and usually gets referred to as "Little Droid", "Comm Droid", "Little Comm Droid"...
