Crew of the Resolute

    Captain Solano

Captain Zachary Solano

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/solano.png

Voiced By: Jim Meskimen

“If you’re willing to put in the work, I’ll do everything in my power to help you along the way.”
The Captain of the Resolute. A veteran Starfleet officer in the twilight of his career, Solano still has his ambitions, and he’s looking for a way to secure his place in the history books.
  • "Ass" in Ambassador: He manages to offend the Hotari Queen and the Alydian diplomatic contingent at the summit, and he's needlessly antagonistic towards Portal 63, whose help he needs. For all his talents as a captain, diplomacy is not one of them.
  • Broken Ace: In the prequel comic he starts out as a fairly strong, capable leader. After the warp core accident that nearly destroyed the ship, he is deeply shaken and left wondering how his legacy will be affected.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Captain Solano talks about these a great deal but is extremely prickly whenever anyone challenges his command.
  • It's All About Me: Solano states that his place in Starfleet is hanging by a thread after the Resolute's disastrous warp core test, and salvaging his career is constantly his top priority. He's absolutely furious if Rydek countermands his orders in front of Starfleet brass, and insists on keeping certain details of the mission secret to avoid looking incompetent.
  • The Mentor: States as matter of pride that most of his First Officers tend to eventually become distinguished Captains in their own right.
Solano: If, after serving as my First Officer, you don’t one day find yourself with a ship of your own, then I will consider it my personal failure. When that might happen is entirely up to you. But it goes without saying that you have my full support.
Rydek: It’s been a dream of mine since before I can remember, so I would be honored to become a Captain someday.
  • My Greatest Failure: A warp core accident that occurred six months prior to the story proper, which nearly destroyed the Resolute, killed 22 crewmembers - including the previous First Officer, Luke Sutherland - and required an extensive refit.
  • Rail Enthusiast: He has a model train set in his ready room.
  • Undying Loyalty: He asks for this from Commander Rydek during their first conversation.

    Commander Rydek

Commander Jara Rydek

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rydek.png

Voiced By: Krizia Bajos

“We all know the risks when we sign up. There are no guarantees. As much as we tell ourselves otherwise.”
The newly transferred First Officer of the Resolute. One of Starfleet’s finest, she has a long history of tackling difficult challenges and finding a way to beat the odds.

  • The Ace: Was the valedictorian of her class at Starfleet Academy, finished third on the Torvallin Testnote  and also served with distinction in the Dominion War.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Jara suffers from a need for a rare isotope named deridium and when she doesn't have it, becomes dangerously ill.
  • Distaff Counterpart: To Will Riker, as the pro-active “Number One” who leads the away team while the older captain remains on the bridge.
  • Guile Hero: At Spock’s encouragement, she ingratiates herself to Hotari and Alydian leaders to get them to reveal information that can expedite a peaceful resolution to their conflict.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: She's half-human, half-Kobliad.
  • Last of His Kind: She’s half Kobliad, which is a dying race by the 24th Century.
  • You Are in Command Now:
    • Becomes the Resolute's First Officer after the previous "Number One", Lucas Sutherlandnote  is killed in action.
    • Becomes the new Captain of the Resolute after Solano is compromised and has to be relieved of command.

    Commander Westbrook

Commander Benjamin Westbrook

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/westbrook.png

Voiced By: Keith Silverstein

“This recent surge in the energy disturbance temporarily levels the playing field.”
The Chief Science Officer of the Resolute. He speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to make waves, but when he latches onto a problem, he doesn’t let go until it’s solved.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Was hoping that he would get promoted to First Officer after Commander Sutherland died, but to his chagrin, Commander Rydek got the job instead.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's rather snide, largely because he feels he was Passed-Over Promotion in favor of Rydek, but ultimately means well and is as helpful as he can be to the crew.
  • The Smart Guy: As the ship's science officer, this is his role. Captain Solano has come to rely on his expert counsel on a regular basis.
  • The Spock: Westbrook is the Spock to Bedrosian's McCoy. Westbrook is the scientifically-minded senior officer whose decisions are guided by experience and he also regularly quotes Starfleet charters. Bedrosian is young and Hot-Blooded, often acting on instinct, but many of her ideas are Crazy Enough to Work.
    Commander Chovak

Lt. Commander Chovak

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chovak.png

Voiced By: John P. Karliak

“Vulcans do not ‘worry’. We calculate the variables and take appropriate precautions to mitigate the risk.”
The Resolute’s stern Vulcan chief engineer. His only desire is to execute his duties with the utmost efficiency, and ensure that others do so as well.
  • Composite Character: He combines the stern leadership of Captain Jellico with the logic of Tuvok or Spock.
  • Defrosting Ice King: He starts out fairly cold and abrasive to Officer Diaz, but gradually warms up to him as he witnesses Diaz heroically put himself at risk on numerous occasions. In the climax, as Diaz heads off to what could be a Suicide Mission, Chovak gives him the Live Long and Prosper salute.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: In the prequel comic he is impaled by debris during the warp core accident. He survives due to timely medical attention.
  • Stern Teacher: His command style in a nutshell. Even Tuvok seems laid back in comparison to him.

     Doctor Duvall

Commander Eraam Duvall, MD

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/duvallresurgenceupdated.png

Voiced By: Debra Wilson

"There’s no sugarcoating in my sickbay."
As Chief Medical Officer for the Resolute, Dr. Duvall is one of the few people who can actually give orders to Captain Solano. She can always be counted on to tell the unvarnished truth, even when it’s difficult to hear.
  • Distaff Counterpart: To Dr. McCoy, as the snarky, cantankerous but kind-hearted medical professional.
  • Properly Paranoid: When she scans Miranda and realizes that she's an impostor, she immediately brings up force fields and confines her to the medbay. She's also the only crew member to openly voice a concern that Captain Solano is under great stress and taking unacceptable risks after the warp core disaster, and encourages Rydek to keep him accountable.
    Commander Urmott

Commander Yann Urmott

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/urmott.png

Voiced By: Liam O'Brien

"At the end of the day we're all responsible for each other. That's what it means to be a crew."
The Chief of Operations for the Resolute. One of Captain Solano’s most steadfast supporters.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Like all Bolians, he has blue skin.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: After Captain Solano is relieved of command, Urmott will be angry if he is not chosen to be the new First Officer.
  • Grand Theft Me: If Urmott and Rydek are not on good terms during the finale, he'll get bio-formed by the Scions of the Flame and turn on Rydek.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: The Scion-possessed Urmott pulls this on Rydek during their fight.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Most Bolians seen in the various Star Trek series are jolly, and hold menial positions in Starfleet such as cooks and barbers. Urmott is dead serious in demeanor at all times, and holds a position of rank.

    Lieutenant Bedrosian

Lieutenant Araxi Bedrosian

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bedrosian.png

Voiced By: Ali Hillis

"I've been following your career for quite some time, and I look forward to learning as much as I can from you."
The Tactical Officer for the Resolute.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Of Commander Rydek, who filled a similar role on a different ship.
  • Broken Pedestal: If Rydek chooses to save the vault in the Pallisades Cluster rather than destroy it, then Bedrosian will be so disgusted with the decision that she will resign her commission.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: After Captain Solano is relieved of command, Bedrosian is disappointed if Westbrook or Urmott is chosen to be the new First Officer instead of her. However, if Rydek saved her life earlier, she lets this go and acknowledges that she'll get her own shot at command later.
  • Eye Scream: If you decide to complete the transport and save the Alydians, the transport console explodes in her face, burning her eyes. She'll spend the rest of the game donning a new variation of the VISOR.
  • The McCoy: Bedrosian is the McCoy to Westbrook's Spock: Westbrook is the scientifically-minded senior officer whose decisions are guided by experience and he also regularly quotes Starfleet charters. Bedrosian is young and Hot-Blooded, often acting on instinct, but many of her ideas are Crazy Enough to Work.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: If Rydek mutinies against Captain Solano without confiding her suspicions to Bedrosian first, Bedrosian is hurt and insulted. She also threatens to resign if Rydek chooses to save the backup disks of Tkonian minds stored at the Scion base, rather than destroy them before the Scions can use them to bio-form anyone else.

    Carter Diaz

Petty Officer Carter Diaz

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/diaz.png

Voiced By: Josh Keaton

“I enlisted because I didn’t want to wait years just to get out and see the galaxy. I wanted to go somewhere, see new worlds, look up at a sky no one has ever seen before.”
A dreamer with a thirst for adventure, Carter Diaz decided to skip the Academy and enlist in Starfleet so he could get out and see the galaxy. He’s a gifted engineer, and while life on the lower decks keeps him far from the decisions on the bridge, he almost always finds himself close to the action.
  • Almighty Janitor: He holds the rather low enlisted rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class, judging by his collar insignia, which means he’s pretty far removed from the decisions made by the Bridge Officers, but finds himself in the thick of the action regardless.
  • Determinator: “We’re not going to die here. Not if I have anything to say about it.”
  • Deuteragonist: The other player-controlled point-of-view character after Commander Rydek.
  • Insistent Terminology: When Chovak chews him out for being “almost late”, Diaz bites back with this.
Diaz: Commander Chovak, isn’t it true that if we were "almost" late, it categorically means we were not late?
Chovak: That is correct, Mr. Diaz.
Diaz: If anything, Edsilar and I are following the schedule to the letter.
  • Lower-Deck Episode: The chapters devoted to him evoke this perspective. He can even mention, in an optional conversation with Science Officer Westbrook, that "the lower decks are always cleaning up Command's messes."
  • Manly Tears: After Miranda dies, if she was romanced.
Nili: She's really gone... for good. I can't believe it.
Carter: I... loved her. I really did.
    Nili: I know.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: His whole plotline is this when you think about it. In the early part of the campaign, he gets the romance with Miranda (should the player wish to pursue it) and the sense that he's destined for greater things. But then Miranda gets bio-formed, and despite all the Hope Spots we get that suggest that he might actually be able to save her, he's ultimately forced to watch her die, gets bio-formed himself, and is forced to make a Heroic Sacrifice to save his best friend. He can potentially survive that, but if he does, Came Back Wrong is very much in play.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: The folder quote sums it up.
  • Zombie Infectee: Gets bio-formed, but holds it together long enough for a Heroic Sacrifice.

    Nili Edsilar

Petty Officer Nili Edsilar

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/edsilar.png

Voiced By: Stephanie Sheh

“When I joined Starfleet, all I wanted was a ride out of town. But this isn't exactly how I pictured it.”
An unjoined Trill who rebelled against the expectations of her society by enlisting in Starfleet. She is the best friend and co-worker of Officer Diaz. Whip-smart with a penchant for sarcasm, she’s not afraid to take someone down a peg – even in the heat of battle.
  • Break the Cutie: Hoo-boy. In the course of a single playthrough, Nili can potentially be hit with a radiation wave that scars her for the rest of her life, forced to kill Miranda to save Carter, and then lose Carter mere moments later.
  • Cultural Rebel: Unlike the rest of the Trill, such as Jadzia Dax, Nili is opposed to the Trill Symbiosis process because even though the new consciousness is a 50/50 split she still considers it to be "killing" the host's original personality (aka the Tuvix Dilemma).
    • She's later revealed to have a more personal, tragic reason for hating the Symbiosis: She has a twin sister, and they were close as children. When the sister reached adulthood, she underwent Symbiosis, Came Back Wrong, and eventually cut off all contact with Nili.
Nili: My sister was the closest person in the world to me. I knew she would be different after joining, but she grew more and more distant, the room we shared growing up was foreign to the both of us. And eventually, she... or whoever she'd become, cut me out entirely. So I left for Starfleet and swore I'd never go back. I couldn't stand the thought of seeing her... someone who looked like my sister.
Carter: So losing Miranda like this opened up an old wound?
Nili: Never really closed up in the first place.
  • Field Promotion: The ending montage shows she has been promoted to Bridge Crew, working as a Communications Officer.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Has this dynamic with Carter.
  • Shipper on Deck: Encourages Carter to pursue a romance with Miranda. Which makes it hurt all the more when Nili is forced to kill the bio-formed Miranda to save Carter.

    Miranda Maris

Petty Officer Miranda Maris

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mmaris.png

Voiced By: Abby Trott

"I know you want more from life, and I want to show you what you could be a part of."
A Security officer who works alongside Carter Diaz and Nili Edsilar. Maris survived the disastrous warp-core malfunction that nearly destroyed the Resolute, and after recovering from her injuries, she was temporarily reassigned to the U.S.S. Adirondack. After repairs to the Resolute are complete, Maris returns to the Resolute in time for the Hotari-Alydian crisis.
  • Alliterative Name: Miranda Maris.
  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • In the prequel comic she has a couple of silent background appearances here and there, and during the finale, Carter and Nili are seen carrying an unconscious Miranda to an escape shuttle.
    • In the prologue for the game itself, Miranda is one of the other passengers on the shuttlecraft that is transporting Commander Rydek and Ensign Calloway to the Resolute.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: When Miranda gets possessed by the Scions of the Flame, Carter and Nili are determined to restore her to normal, and there are several Hope Spots to suggest that they might actually be able to pull that off. Sadly, however, all possible endings result in Miranda being Killed Off for Real.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Miranda vs Carter.
Carter: Miranda, if you’re in there, I will find a way to get you back.
  • Love-Interest Traitor: Can potentially become a love interest for Carter if the player wishes, and is forced against her will to betray the Resolute after she is bio-formed by the Scions of the Flame.

Other Starfleet Personnel

    Spock

Ambassador Spock

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/spockresurgence.png

Voiced By: Piotr Michael

“True peace is not merely the absence of war.”
One of the Federation’s greatest scientific minds, Spock had a long and distinguished career as Science Officer, and eventually First Officer, of the U.S.S. Enterprise before becoming a Captain in his own right. By the 24th Century, Spock has retired from Starfleet to become a Federation Ambassador, regarded as a living legend for such notable feats as brokering the first Federation-Klingon peace treaty and coming Back from the Dead. Though he devotes much of his time toward an ambitious plan to reunify Romulus and Vulcan, he agrees to assist the Resolute with the Hotari-Alydian crisis.
Given his massive presence across the franchise, Spock has his own page here. All tropes should go in the relevant folder on that page. Click here to see them read in his own voice.
    Will Riker

Captain William T. Riker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/resurgencesriker.png

Voiced By: Jonathan Frakes

"If you two don’t think you’re equipped to make contact you need to tell me now - because there is no silver bullet here. Now is not the time to hesitate. I need to know you’re up for this."
A veteran Starfleet officer who served with distinction as the First Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Jean-Luc Picard, a position he held for fifteen years. He has recently been promoted to Captain in his own right and placed in command of his own ship, the U.S.S. Titan. Due to his previous experience with the Tkon Empire, Commander Rydek calls upon his expertise when the Hotari-Alydian crisis takes an unexpected turn.

  • Click here for Next Generation tropes.
  • Click here for Lower Decks tropes.
  • Click here for Picard tropes.

  • Big Damn Heroes: Leads The Cavalry to save the crew of the Resolute, much like he would do for the Cerritos a few months later (and La Sirenia a couple decades later).
  • Everyone Went to School Together: Riker recalls meeting a younger Captain Solano during his time as a junior officer on board the Potemkin.
  • Happily Married: Though it's not really touched upon, at this point in time he and Deanna Troi would have been married for nearly a year.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He had a good teacher in that regard. He makes sure that Rydek is competent enough to handle things on her own before sharing any intel with her, calls Solano out on his dishonesty, and ultimately offers whatever help he can.
  • Saved by Canon: He obviously has to survive these events unscathed so he can fulfill his roles in Lower Decks and Picard.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: If Rydek tells him that the Scions of the Flame have compromised the Fleet's shield frequencies, Riker is downright furious that Solano would be willing to cover up something of that magnitude just to save his own ass.
  • You Remind Me of X: Sees a little bit of his younger self in Commander Rydek.

Other Characters

    Queen

Hotari Queen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hotariqueen.png

Voiced By: Debra Wilson

"The Federation is the most powerful, most advanced alliance in the galaxy. It’s widely known we have an abundance of dilithium in our mines, and it’s in your interest to secure a steady supply."
The ruler of Hotari Prime.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: When the Queen learns of Rydek’s Kobliad heritage, she notes that the treatment her people have endured at the hands of the Alydians is not that different from the oppression that Kobliads endured at the hands of the Cardassians. She immediately asks Rydek if she would be so eager to sue for peace against the Cardassians if she had the opportunity to use force to right the wrongs against her people.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Only adressed by her title, her name is never revealed.
  • Grand Theft Me: She gets bio-formed by the T’Kon Cartabula and becomes possessed by one of the Scions of the Flame.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In all ending variations, the Queen has been outed as a Scion, but is still alive. Tylas (if advised to help rebuild the Hotari government) makes it clear that she does NOT want to take the Queen's place. Whether the Queen keeps her position in a Constitutional Monarchy capacity, gets replaced with another monarch, or if the entire Hotari government is replaced with a Republic is ultimately unknown.

     Tylas

Ambassador Tylas Altaras

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tylas.png

Voiced By: Amanda Céline Miller

"For the first time in our history, the Hotari have the upper hand. We see ourselves as strong instead of downtrodden. New voices have risen up, old voices shouted down."
The Minister of Diplomatic Affairs for the Hotari government, Tylas works with the Federation to ensure that the diplomatic crisis between her people and the Alydians does not escalate into war.
  • Actual Pacifist: Doesn't have the stomach for violence, especially against her own people.
  • The Creon: She considers herself a diplomat first and foremost, not a politician.
  • Only Sane Woman: She genuinely seeks a peaceful resolution to the Hotari-Alydian crisis and is deeply troubled by the increasingly militant elements in her government.
  • Taking the Bullet: Takes a disruptor shot meant for Rydek. She gets better.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: Feels this way after learning she is the only member of the Hotari government who isn't corrupted by the Scions. By the end she's more conflicted: She knows that Hotari will need strong leaders like her to help rebuild, but she has also begun to suspect she might do more good in the Starfleet Diplomatic Corps. Ultimately she goes with Rydek's suggestion.

    Galvan

Galvan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/galvan.png

Voiced By: Elias Toufexis

"You came here under the assumption you would be the ultimate authority; that you would show up and render judgment in this petty dispute over precious resources between lesser people. But instead, your arrogance and self-interest was your undoing, blinding you to the real power at work here… something far beyond your feeble imagination."
Galvan was once a lowly worker in the dilithium mines on the Hotari moon of Tau. During one dig he inadvertently unearthed a mysterious artifact called the Cartabula. Eventually realizing its potential as a weapon, Galvan attempted to use the Cartabula against the Alydian overseers that controlled his planet's resources. He is instead altered by the Cartabula's true creators and begins to pursue a different agenda.
  • Big Bad: The Scions of the Flame are the true Big Bad, but the Scion that has possessed Galvan appears to be their leader.
  • Defiant to the End: Galvan ultimately goes out the same way Commander Nero does: He refuses to be beamed off his exploding flagship, prompting our heroes to give him a Mercy Kill by torpedoing the bridge.
  • Evil Chancellor: He uses his status as a revolutionary hero to become a trusted adviser to the Hotari Queen, then has her bio-formed.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: He found the Tkon Cartabula and thought he could use it as a weapon to liberate his people from the Alydians. Instead, he ended up being the first one to be bio-formed by the Scions of the Flame.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Is voiced by an actor who is famous for his gravelly Baritone of Strength, and he turns out to be the primary villain of the storyline.
  • Grand Theft Me: He’s been possessed by the leader of the Scions of the Flame.
  • Occupiers Off of Our Planet: His original motivations before he was possessed by the leader of the Scions.
  • Shut Up, Kirk!:
Rydek: You won’t get away with this. You will be held accountable by the Federation.
Galvan: I already have gotten away with it. And the Federation has no authority here.

    Sidron

Sidron

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sidron_4.png

Voiced By: Keith Silverstein

"Hotari stands alone against the Alydian forces. We don’t need help from anyone. They respect one thing above all else, and that is force. The greater the force, the more certain the outcome."
One of the Hotari miners that ousted the Alydians from his homeworld, Sidron now finds himself in a more complex political world than he’s used to, but he’s perfectly happy to throw his weight around.
  • The Dragon: Once he is bio-formed, he becomes the host for the second in command of the Scions of the Flame.
  • Grand Theft Me: Like all victims of the Scions.
  • Might Makes Right: Seems to hold this viewpoint during the initial negotiations between the Hotari and the Alydians.
  • Uncertain Doom: While Galvan was perfectly fine to go down with the Aphelion, Sidron had little interest in dying that way. Assuming the player chose to save the Scions who DID wish to be evacuated, it is unclear if he was one of the refugees or if he died along with Galvan when the bridge of the Aphelion was torpedoed.

    Arminta

Major Sarlit Arminta

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arminta.png

Voiced By: Jim Meskimen

"Our losses are mounting. Yours are just beginning."
A special attache to the Alydian Armed Forces. A veteran of the Dominion War, Major Arminta currently serves on the Alydian flagship Xeldi, providing security for the delegates assigned to negotiate with the Hotari and the Federation.
  • Aliens of London: His accent and stiff upper lip demeanor brings to mind a spit and polish British soldier.
  • An Arm and a Leg: During a fight with Portal 63 in the ending where he turns hostile, Arminta's left hand is sliced off by 63's Omni-Blade. Arminta wins the fight despite this.
  • The Extremist Was Right: Much like Elim Garak, Arminta is more ruthless and cynical than the Starfleet officers he works alongside, but is proven to be right quite often. In particular, his warning to Carter and Nili that Miranda is lost to them and any attempt to save her will fail ultimately turns out to be true.
Nili: The Tkon have taken control of her mind. We certainly can’t kill her for it.
Major Arminta: Speak for yourself. If anyone threatens the Empire, they are the enemy. It’s just one life, and it’s already been lost.
Nili: You don't get to talk about Miranda that way!
Major Arminta: You don’t get to ignore the truth!
  • A Father to His Men: Outright states that the men and women who serve with him are like family to him.
  • I'm a Doctor, Not a Placeholder: "We're soldiers, not engineers."
  • Old Soldier: A longtime member of the Alydian military who served with distinction in the Dominion War.
  • Only Sane Man: If Rydek sides with the Hotari during the initial negotiations, most of the Alydian delegation is outraged and refuse to speak to her. However, Major Arminta is willing to consider that Rydek chose her answer out of pragmatism and expresses a willingness to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
  • Properly Paranoid: Never fully trusted Portal 63, so he is prepared in the ending where 63 turns on them.

    Itasca

Lieutenant Itasca

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itasca.png

Voiced By: Victoria Atkin

"Our fight is here…now. This is how we do the most good for the Empire."
An Alydian soldier who served alongside Major Arminta during the Dominion War, Lt. Itasca currently serves as a security officer on board the Xeldi.
  • Aliens of London: Like most Alydians, she has a British-sounding accent.
  • Grand Theft Me: Gets possessed by Manca ul Mett, a Scion of the Flame.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: During a battle with the Scions of the Flame, Itasca is shot in the leg by disruptor fire, which means the only means of escape (a ladder) is not available to her. So she attempts a suicidal last stand to buy time for Diaz, Edsilar, and Arminta to climb to safety. Subverted, as despite her best efforts to go out in a blaze of glory, she is still captured alive and converted into a Scion.
  • Like a Son to Me: Major Arminta considers her a surrogate daughter.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Facing certain death via Explosive Decompression, Itasca/Manca begs Diaz, Edsilar, and Arminta to not let her die. Whether or not she is saved is up to the player.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: If Itasca/Manca is saved, she expresses gratitude, but is not seen again. Since Starfleet is not anywhere closer to reversing the bio-forming, it is uncertain what happens to her after that.

    Portal 63

Portal 63

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/portal63.png

Voiced By: Mark Rolston

"In another time, I would have destroyed you and your ship simply for setting foot in this place. Fortunately for you, that time has passed."
The only known surviving guardian of the long-extinct Tkon Empire, Portal 63 note  was assigned to an outpost on Delphi Ardu IV. During a slow period for the Empire, 63 went into suspended animation, where he remained during the collapse of his Empire two "ages" later. In 2364, 63 was awakened when the U.S.S. Enterprise traveled to Delphi Ardu in pursuit of a Ferengi Marauder. Encountering an away team led by Commander Will Riker, 63 was impressed with the young Starfleet officer's resolve, but was disheartened to learn that he slept through the downfall of his Empire. Deciding to return to suspended animation until he was needed again, 63 was not heard from again for several years. Sixteen years after his official first contact with the Federation, the crew of the Resolute seek his help in trying to stop the Scions of the Flame.
  • Clarke's Third Law: Even by the standards of the setting, Tkonian technology is so advanced that a Portal is practically a space wizard, when compared to Starfleet. The fact he was originally seen wielding, what appeared to be, a Magic Staff only helps to convey that.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: He had an antagonistic role in the TNG episode that introduced him, though he was more of a Threshold Guardian than an actual villain, and proved capable of being reasoned with. For most of Resurgence he is an ally, but the stress of fighting his own kind can eventually take its toll if certain decisions are made. In one ending his unwillingness to see the Aphelion destroyed will cause him to turn on the away team and attack Edsilar and Diaz.
  • Important Haircut: In his single TNG appearance he looked ragged and disheveled. Here he looks much more cleaned up.
  • It's Up to You: Says as much to Diaz should he die protecting the away team from the Scions, recognising that he's beginning to bioform.
  • Last of His Kind: Believed to be the only member of the Tkon that is still alive in the 24th Century. He is not happy to learn that the Scions of the Flame have resurfaced, as he viewed them to be dangerous extremists.
  • Literal-Minded: When Bedrosian says he's "out of his mind" for asking for full access to the Resolute's systems, 63 responds that he's very much "in" his mind. He was either unfamiliar with the saying, or just engaging in wordplay.
  • Master of Illusion: His telepathy enables him to create powerful illusions.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: When dealing with the Federation, he appears to be a godlike, omnipotent being. He's no Q, though - the weapons and technology of his own people can do him in as easily as a phaser or a disruptor can kill an ordinary human. In addition to the occasional Escort Mission where the player has to keep him alive, he's ultimately Killed Off for Real, either by succumbing to his wounds from holding off the Scions, or after betraying the away team and being thrown into an energy barrier by Major Arminta.
  • Slept Through the Apocalypse: Was in suspended animation when the Tkon Empire collapsed.
  • Stop Being Stereotypical: His primary beef with the Scions of the Flame. To him, they embody the worst aspects of the Empire.
