Main Characters

Kai Toshiki

Kagero / Tama (until Ride 40)

Summoned to the world of Wixoss by the unintentional act of Takuto Tatsunagi, Kai wanders across it with Tama and Ruko's friends with the intention of finding the aforementioned Selector, intending to uncover the truth behind her disappearance and the Selector Battles themselves.

Tropes

• The Ace: Still retains this after coming into this world, with only one No Result battle under his belt. Has a loss when he surrenders to Aichi in Ride 63 and another after losing to Noriko in Ride 65.
• Heroic BSoD: Has one when he isn't able to save Ruko from Reverse after their first battle ends with him about to lose (after briefly becoming Reversed after Iona's attacks trigger the Seed fragment embedded inside him), only for the field to collapse due to Naoki's intervention.
  • Happens again in Ride 63.
    • Overcomes it at last in Ride 65 by accepting that Reverse will always be a part of him for life, even if he chooses not to use it as he did before.
• Power Trio: With Aichi and Ruko to an extent.

Tropes

• Character Development: Despite all of the development that she received in infected, Hitoe can still find it difficult to talk to people she's unfamiliar with at the start of the fic, as Kai almost frightened her had it not been for him showing Tama to her. Her confidence takes a slight boost when he hands her a few of his spare Kagero units, but goes back down during his first battle with Ruko. After losing to Ren in a friendly battle, she has a Heroic BSoD for a brief instance until Aichi helps to snap her out of it. Then the night later after heading to Ruko's school to confront Akira, she decides to take a stand for herself and battle the latter in Aichi's place whilst he looks for Ulith who is holding Tama captive.
• Ship Tease: With Aichi as he understands what she's going through, having experienced a majority of it for himself. Has been known to blush around him on various occasions with Yuzuki seemingly being the only one aware of this. Then there's the fact that she's called him 'Aichi-kun' twice before asking him for permission about the honorific reference, with only one of those occasions having her aware of it. Whether Aichi is aware of these possible feelings or not is currently unknown.
  • She later speaks out that Aichi's kindness, his understanding of her own anxiety and that always looks to see the best in people are the reason she likes him. Yuzuki seemingly ponders if this actually means that Hitoe loves Aichi, but is unsure of that.
    • In Ride 57, she hugs Aichi after the thought of him being wounded by Akira crosses her mind, given the earlier close shave they have with the latter.
• Shrinking Violet: She is still very much this to a degree. Aichi promises Yuzuki that he will do what he can to help her come out of this, having had experience in this particular subject himself.
• Not Afraidof You Anymore: Like in Spread, she stands up for herself to Akira, albeit under different circumstances this time. This leads to her battling the Selector who has stolen Kai's deck prior to this moment, using it as her own.
  • Needless to say, the result of this trope in comparison to Spread's usage of it ends rather well for Hitoe.
• Tooka Levelin Badass: After standing up to Akira so Aichi can search Ruko's school for Tama and Ulith without further intervention (though one may argue that she was triggered by the Selector calling her a coward, not helping by the fact she barely lost to Ren earlier in the afternoon), Hitoe bravely endures wave after wave of relentless attacks from Kai's stolen Kagero units in their battle, in turn earning the respect of the units that Akira had abused under her command. This results in Yuzuki getting a power up by them to win the battle and a "The Reason You Suck" Speech from Dragonic Overlord directed to Akira, followed up Hitoe declaring she won't let Akira lay a hand on Ruko or Aichi-kun.
  • Continues further when she prevents Akira from stabbing Aichi later on in the third arc before saving both Midoriko and her childhood friend from Aomori, Sakuya, from Reverse.

• ...…And That Little Girl Was Me: When she shows Kamui her memories of the day Remember killed Sakaguchi whilst she is reversed. Had it not been for this reveal to him though, he would have had a harder time believing that she wasn't as heartless as he initially made her out to be.
• Character Development: After only appearing a few times in the first two arcs as Kai's first LRIG opponent and as Amika's new LRIG, she finally gets an important role in part of the third arc, particularly the 'Peeping Analyze' sub-arc (based on the manga of the same name). She initially perceives Kamui as nothing more than an annoyance, even bluntly telling him to give up on his search for Remember, and although she viewed Amika as a pawn initially, her motivation to protect her mother is what is kept the LRIG from following her fine line of revenge completely. After showing Kamui her past whilst reversed and being told that her efforts would only result in her being no better than Remember, she is initially furious with him for 'learning nothing' until she briefly hallucinates seeing Sakaguchi on the battlefield for an instant. After being unreversed and discovering her power changed Amika's wish at the last second before their Reverse, she then entrusts Kamui with the task of protecting Amika's mother from Remember to which he immediately accepts in spite of their past disagreements up until the battle.
  • When Kiyoi steps in to take Kamui's place after the latter is injured by a twisted version of one of his units, housing the imprisoned spirit of Sakaguchi Ayumi, she monologues briefly that she initially hated him for his lack of maturity and yet, his understanding of her past and his willingness to help Amika save her mother has allowed her to respect him for his sense of justice in the least. After getting her body back from Remember, she retains most of her cynicism, but is much more friendlier to the few people that she trusts around her now.
• Darkand Troubled Past: Had troubles trusting people and making friends like in the Peeping Analyze manga, which makes her awkward to speak with around a lot of people. Kamui is easily the most annoyed around her for her harsh comments and intentional lack of response. After the Peeping Analyze sub-arc ends, she seems to be making an effort to move on from this.
• Defrosting Ice Queen: Starts when she is unreversed by Kamui and entrusts him to protect Amika's mother from Remember. Further reinforced when she comes to acknowledge him as a friend, despite their quips, comments and disagreements with each other, if only out of mutual respect for his acknowledgement of her past and his own sense of justice.
• Friendless Background
• Heroic BSoD.: Blames herself for Sakaguchi's hospitalization.
  • Happens again briefly before she is unreversed by Kamui and Ethics Buster.
    • Gets two more after discovering that Ice Prison Necromancer, Cocytus was forced to resurrect Sakaguchi's spirit and when Kamui succumbs to his injury (one that she accidentally gave him whilst she was reversed), prompting her to scream for him to get up until Takuto tricks Mayu into letting her take his place to finish the battle.
• Important Haircut: Gives herself one after she hears from Sakaguchi's mother that she prefers seeing Kiyoi with short hair.
• Jerkass: Especially towards Kamui during several portions of the third arc before the 'Peeping Analyze' sub-arc. Even more so whilst she is reversed, not concerned with the life of Amika's mother during this period as she sees her as a 'necessary sacrifice' to challenge Remember again on her own terms. Drops this by the time she is unreversed, even if she still has her moments of cynicism.
• Look Both Ways: Like in the manga in a brief flashback, almost gets run over by a truck. She is saved by Ayumi, who gets hit by it instead.
• My Greatest Failure: Not being able to save Sakaguchi in the end.

• Breakthe Cutie / Breakthemby Talking: Pulls this on Aichi, with his own PSY Qualia no less. Although he breaks out of it thanks to Umr, Ulith senses that she knows when she can use this again.
• Mind Rape: Same reason as Breakthe Cutie / Breakthemby Talking. The overall damage done to Aichi's composure (and mental state) is unlike any done to him by previous antagonists.
• The Dragon: Takes up this role as part of her servitude to Mayu and Photon. A lesser extent compared to Miyako however.
• Villainous Crush: Appears to be obsessed with Aichi to the point she reprimands Akira in Arc 3 for nearly stabbing him (as well as giving her strict orders to stay away from him) and constantly taunts Kai and the others in Arc 4 Side: Vanguard that she's got 'big plans' for him. She also tells Kai and Miwa she wants to reawaken the portion of Aichi that was drunk on PSY Qualia back in Season 1 for fun and even kisses a photograph with him present in it.

• Dead Serious: She will resort to any measures to ensure her mission for Mayu is completed, even if it means harming children.
• Evil Matriarch: The fact that Mayu ushered her name before Kai and the others learned about her from Hatsu combined with the fact that she gave Ayumu the clone LRIG appears to confirm this. Confirmed in Ride 55 when she attacks the orphanage Gaillard was raised in, even going as far as attacking the children there to grab his and Neve's attention.
  • Honor Before Reason: Implied, despite being fully aligned with Mayu's goals. Though this may be from her disapproval of Ulith's behavior and presumably some of her crueler methods.
• The Dragon: To a higher extent than Ulith.
• The Purge: What she wants to help Mayu and the Star-vaders achieve after the Selector Battles have finished serving their purpose to open a gateway for them to invade her own world.
