Bonfire

Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara

"...How much longer should I keep playing along with your game?"

The world's greatest spy, the boss and teacher of the spy organization Lamplight. Code Name - Bonfire.

  • The Ace: Doesn't regard himself as the greatest spy in the world for no reason. In fact, that's part of the problem with his training up Lamplight - he's so naturally good that he doesn't know how to pass his skills on.
  • Assassin Outclassin': Trains his pupils by daring them to kill or capture him, and thrashes them regularly.
  • Badass Teacher: Lamplight‘s teacher in spycraft, and always gives them a sound defeat no matter what tricks they managed to pull off, combat included.
  • Can't Catch Up: Was never able to defeat his mentor Guido in a spar because Guido's reflexes were just naturally a tenth of a second faster. Until the girls managed to give him a wound that slowed the now rogue Guido down by a tenth of a second.
  • Celibate Hero: Klaus doesn’t experience romantic attraction, and as such isn't tempted by pursuits of romantic or sexual desires. In fact, he is often oblivious to them entirely, seen in volume one when Thea came to Klaus’s room for a ‘good time’ and he interpreted that as ‘a good time playing chess’.
  • Chick Magnet: Klaus has made a few of his students to fall for him. Unfortunately for them, he’s a Celibate Hero.
  • Defeat by Modesty: Inverted. When the girls attempted to make him surrender while he’s in the shower, he still defeats them without a single change in expression and then goes onto explain why a well-trained spy thinks little of being naked instead of putting on a towel.
  • The Illegible: He has what is described in volume 2 chapter 2 as ‘god awful handwriting’.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: His hair is shoulder-length, and he himself is handsome in an androgynous way.
  • Marriage of Convenience: Has been married twice, both times being a paper only relationship because having a wife was useful for supporting a cover. The first time was to a now deceased member of Inferno. The second time was to Sybilla.
  • The One Guy: He’s pretty much the only male character who is featured prominently with major plot significance among the cast.
  • Sole Survivor: Klaus is the only surviving member of Inferno, and the only reason he didn't die with the others was because he was sent on a separate solo operation when the rest went on the mission where they were killed.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: While Klaus is The Stoic and keeps a blank face, he isn't by any means uncaring; in fact, despite his unconventional teaching methods, he demonstrates a great level of care and empathy to his students. He believes each member of Lamplight is an individual of boundless potential, and he seeks to bring out the best in each of their abilities.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Has dark hair, is a Long-Haired Pretty Boy, and quite tall, too.

"I'd go to the ends of the earth if it meant I could bloom into a worthy leader for our team."

The cheerful and positive team leader of Lamplight, her specialty is poison. Code Name - Flower Garden.

  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Surprisingly, Lily is this thanks to Klaus teaching her so that she can be an effective spy. The other members of Lamplight are not happy with this.
  • Flowers of Femininity: She’s strongly associated with flower, from her real name and codename to the fact that she’s wearing a lily flower on her hair.
  • The Immune: She was the sole survivor of her village due to her body being naturally resistant to the poison-based weapons that was used.
  • The Leader: Klaus placed her in charge of the team.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Light to Thea's Dark, being a beautiful, well-endowed, light-haired girl who's rather innocent about love and sex. Thea actually encourages her to make more use of her "assets."
  • Master Poisoner: Lily has a knack on concocting poisons that can either paralyze or kill her targets.
  • Nice Girl: Lily is a kind, bubbly and good natured girl at heart, putting in her all as Lamplight's team leader. While she is by no means against indulging in the luxuries of being a spy, her true motivation comes from a desire and duty to help others as a certain spy has done for her.
  • The Pollyanna: Despite the suffering she underwent, she still has a strangely positive attitude that can best be summarized with the philosophy ‘anything goes’.
  • Sole Survivor: The Galgado Empire released a lethal poison gas onto the village Lily resided in for testing, killing hundreds, but she survived.

  • Boyish Short Hair: She has short hair, which signifies her tomboyishness.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Her specialty is close quarters combat.
  • Friend to All Children: Sibylla has a huge soft spot for children. The reason she became a spy is so that no child would ever become orphan like she and her siblings went through.
  • Hates Wearing Dresses: Sybilla hates wearing dresses as she’s not into feminine clothing and she thinks she looks ridiculous.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Sybillia is neither intuitive nor particularly observant, she goes with what her gut tells her, which leads her to act without thinking her actions through.

Dreamspeaker

  • Cleavage Window: Her attire always allows people to view her assets.
  • Femme Fatale Spy: She knows she's hot and would use that to her advantage in accomplishing her missions.
  • Heroic Seductress: She's a member of Lamplight and an expert seductress. Played for Laughs, as her attempts at convincing Klaus to accompany her to bed always fail, though (with Klaus being asexual), which tend to greatly shake her self-confidence in her good looks.
  • Light Feminine and Dark Feminine: The Dark to Lily's Light. Like Lily, she's also very buxom, but with dark hair and clothing, and the resident Ms. Fanservice.
  • Mentor Archetype: Give tips to Grete to help her seduce Klaus.
  • Mind Reading: Her power in a nutshell. When staring into someone eyes for three seconds uninterrupted, she can see their deepest desire. This ties into her natural talent for seduction, as she can then tailor her approach to align with said desires.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She's beautiful and has a very curvy body. All the clothes she wears are meant to emphasize her sexiness.
  • Parental Substitute: Annette sees Thea more as a mother than her previous one which is part of the reason Annette kills Matilda who had manipulated Thea's goodwill.
  • Rape as Backstory: Had been kidnapped and raped by enemy agents as a child as a way of threatening her family. She was eventually rescued by Inferno, and the experience is what made her decide to be a spy herself.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Incredibly skilled and intelligent (Klaus even assign her the role of field commander during the mission in Musaiah), but she lacks self-discipline and can be discouraged easily. The fact the she is afflicted with a hero complex and want to save everyone, even enemy spies if possible, doesn't help, as she is aware of how much of a liability it can be in her line of work.

  • Gadgeteer Genius: The resident tech expert, whose inventions caused countless mayhem at her old school but also greatly surpass the level of what The Republic can produce.

  • Danger Sense: While Elna isn’t sure how her sense works, she can predict misfortune before it occurs, which she claims comes from its distinctive smell. She developed this ability after her parents died. Her psychiatrist diagnosed her with what they called a "pre-disposition for unluckiness", which they believed to come from her desire for punishment and trauma from the mansion fire.

  • Walking Spoiler: Her role is hidden from the viewers till she gets revealed.
