    Spiral Knights

The Player character

Lieutenant Feron

  • Number Two: For Captain Ozlo
  • Just the First Citizen: He is for all purposes the direct commander of all knights, but he only has the rank of lieutenant.
  • Large and in Charge: Feron is the field leader of the knights, and one of the biggest.
  • Mouth of Sauron: Heroic example. Since the player character never sees the Captain, Feron is in charge of giving the orders.

Kora

Rhendon

Hahn

Captain Ozlo

  • Big Good: Although he's never been seen by the players once.
  • Just the First Citizen: He is for all intents and purposes the ruler of the Knights, but he only has the rank of Captain.
  • No One Sees the Boss: The knight never sees Ozlo directly, so the greatest figure of authority rests with Lieutenant Feron.

    Gremlins

Schemer Razwog

  • Arc Villain: You face him throughout the first few levels before moving onto Haven.
  • Killed Off for Real: Unlike Seerus and Herex, he doesn't escape the fight with him alive.
  • Warmup Boss: The first boss you fight after starting a new character.

Herex

  • Authority Equals Asskicking: He confronts you directly in the Firestorm Citadel as a boss.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Herex betrayed his King and the other Crimson Order members to steal the Artifact, control the Swarm, and use the Artifact to open the Core to absorb its power for himself.
  • Boss Battle: You finally confront him in the Firestorm Citadel as he opens the Core.
  • Knight of Cerebus: He mercilessly sends assassins after you and the recruits. The recruits. He also plans on using the Swarm to corrupt Cradle.
  • The Man Behind the Man: He was the one giving Razwog orders all along.
  • The Starscream: He was a member of the Crimson Order serving King Tinkinzar before he betrayed them all for himself.
  • Walking Spoiler: Talking about him reveals a lot of the story.

King Tinkinzar

  • Big Bad: He's never seen, but his machinations are the reasons for the entire gremlin army's evil, and it's rumored that he created the Clockworks for his own plans.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Alongside Herex.
  • No One Sees the Boss: Except for the Crimson Order.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Perfectly content to let his subjects do all the work for him, with his Clockworks now completed.
  • The Unfought: So far.

    Bosses

Snarbolax

  • Animalistic Abomination: It's a large Wolver-like creature with glowing red eyes and constantly wreathed in shadows that prevent it from harm.
  • Artifact of Doom: The highest-ranking weapons and armor based on the Snarbolax - many of which seem to be made from Snarbolax parts and are bought by trading for its fangs - apparently possess some of the Snarbolax's supernatural powers. The Barbarous Thorn Shield, for instance, is stated to allow the Snarbolax to stalk weak-minded knights who use it, and the Snarbolax Armor is too dangerous to even look at.
  • Dark Is Evil: A very deep blue, and very aggressive.
  • Dual Boss: You fight two of them in the Shadow Lairs.
  • Flash Step: One of the Snarbolax's abilities, moving it from one end of the arena to the other.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Combined with Red Eyes, Take Warning.
  • Painfully Slow Projectile: One of the Snarbolax's attacks is an arc of these.
  • Palette Swap: The Rabid Snarbolax in the Shadow Lairs. All red is primarily replaced with a sickly green, it deals poison damage, and there are now two to worry about.
  • Poisonous Person: The Rabid variant in the Shadow Lairs.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Six of them in fact.
  • Spikes of Villainy: A row of them on its back.

Royal Jelly

  • Beef Gate: There's no real gimmick to the fight aside from the Royal Jelly healing himself with the tiny coreless slimes around the field.
  • King Mook: Not called Royal Jelly for nothing. Even has a big fancy crown that he takes very seriously.
  • No Conservation of Energy: The Royal Jelly heals himself by... shedding portions of himself into smaller cubes and reabsorbing them.
  • Palette Swap: The Ice Queen in the Shadow Lairs. A Freeze-inducing, stronger version of the Royal Jelly.
  • Turns Red: When his crown is shattered, he gets angry and starts making large, spinning sweeps of the arena.

Roarmulus Twins

  • Boss-Arena Idiocy: They have shielding that can only be pierced by their own missiles. So, after the two are activated, they're put to work firing at you from opposite sides of the same platform, directly facing eachother.
  • Dual Boss: They aren't called 'twins' for nothing.
  • Giant Mook: Resemble giant Gun Puppies.
  • Palette Swap: The Red Roarmulus Twins in the Shadow Lairs. Incendiary-loaded, improved versions of the original two.
  • Shows Damage: As they become more battered, their armor breaks off throughout the fight.

Lord Vanaduke

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He asked a forgotten god to give him the power to take back his kingdom when it was conquered. He got it, alright...except in the process, he destroyed Almire and turned it into a burning hellscape.
  • Final Boss: If you're doing a simple Arcade run, he's the last opponent you face before reaching the Core.
  • Palette Swap: Darkfire Vanaduke in the Shadow Lairs. Lord Vanaduke's body is wreathed in cursed flames, rather than being cursed to be wreathed in flames.
  • Tragic Villain: One can't help but feel sorry for Lord Vanaduke due to his backstory.

Warmaster Seerus

  • The Dragon: As a member of the Crimson Order, he holds power that is second only to King Tinkinzar, and is matched only by the other eight members.
  • Difficulty Levels: Unlike the other dungeons in the Arcade only being balanced for one tier, Operation: Crimson Hammer has a difficulty level for each tier.
  • Optional Boss: The dungeon he's fought in is an optional encounter in the Operation: Crimson Hammer expansion.
  • Rocket-Powered Weapon: The Warmaster Rocket Hammer, a warhammer with set of rockets built into the head to increase impact velocity, and superheated pile bunker points. When charged up, it creates explosions in a cross pattern.
  • Unusable Enemy Equipment: Averted; by defeating him, you unlock a version of his hammer; Beating him on the highest tier means you get the real thing, and lower ones grant you prototype and mass-produced versions. In addition, the unique material you gain from him are fragments of his mask that you can use to create duplicates of it.

Margrel

  • Born Unlucky: It's rumored that Margrel was the unluckiest Kat in the world when the Kat Tribe were alive.
  • Cats Are Mean: The meanest of the Spookats.
  • Curiosity Killed the Cast: All of them, in fact When he opened the Book of Grey Feathers, an event known only as the Kataclysm took place, killing the Owlites and the Kat Tribe in one fell swoop.
  • King Mook: Acts as a Grimalkin that is far stronger, but lacks their immortality and can be beaten to drive him back into his seal.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The can in this case being death itself; Unlike other Black Kats, Margrel can't manifest normally. He needs to be called forth as part of a ritual.
