Units

    Order

Peasant

  • Worker Unit: Peasants gather resources, build structures and repair mechanical units for Order.

Spearman

  • Anti-Structure: The Siege Spears upgrade increases the Spearman's damage against structures.
  • Javelin Thrower: Spearmen throw javelins at enemies.

Falconer

  • Beast of Battle: The Falcon Training allows falcons to fight enemy air units.
  • Defog of War: A Falconer can release a falcon to monitor an area.
  • Poisoned Weapons: Their darts are tipped with poison, causing enemies to take damage over time.
  • See the Invisible: The falcons can see invisible enemies when upgraded with Falcon Training.

Enforcer/Crusader

  • Vanilla Unit: The Enforcer is notable for its high damage but doesn't have any special abilities until upgraded to the Crusader.

Cleric

  • Blinded by the Light: Their Blinding Flash blinds enemies with a bright flash of light, reducing their accuracy.
  • The Medic: Clerics can heal friendly units with their Heal spell. It does not restore as much HP as other healing spells, but it is cheap and can be set to autocast so the player does not have to manually order the Cleric to use it.

Ballista

  • Glass Cannon: The Ballista can devastate enemy units and buildings from a long range, but is very easy to destroy if the enemy can get close.
  • Siege Engines: The Ballista is Order's artillery unit, which deals Siege damage and outranges defensive structures.

Airship Transport

Airship Defender

  • Mighty Glacier: The Airship Defender is very durable and armed with powerful cannons, but is also one of the slowest units in the game.
  • See the Invisible: The Airship Defender can detect nearby invisible enemies.

Archon

Valkyrie

  • Annoying Arrows: Their Cloud Cover reduces damage taken from ranged attacks, except from buildings.
  • Pegasus: The Valkyrie's mount is a winged horse.
  • Shock and Awe: The Valkyrie attacks by firing lightning bolts.

Angel Knight

  • Locked Out of the Fight: The Angel Knight can Banish a unit inside an Oblivion Vault, which renders it invulnerable and unable to do anything until the Oblivion Vault is destroyed.
  • Magic Knight: The Angel Knight is a flying warrior with access to an array of holy spells.
  • Playing with Fire: Rain of Fire calls down a rain of fire on an area.
  • Power Nullifier: Their Interdiction Aura prevents nearby enemies from casting spells.

Spirit Dwarf

  • Worker Unit: Summonable by the Eye of Valantor, the Spirit Dwarf is a secondary worker that cannot build structures but does everything else very fast.

Avatar of Command

  • Draw Aggro: Their Taunt ability forces enemies to attack them.
  • Mook Commander: The Avatar of Command's Command Aura boosts the damage of nearby friendly units.
  • No-Sell: The Avatar of Command is immune to magic.

Archangel of Life

  • Back from the Dead: Summoned into battle by the Eye of Valantor's Resurrect spell, the Archangel of Life's sole role is to resurrect friendly units, as long as their corpses are still intact.
  • No-Sell: The Archangel of Life is immune to magic.

    Nature

Artisan

  • Worker Unit: Artisans gather gold, build most Nature structures (except the Spellbringer, Dendroid Elder and Dendroid Chieftain) and repair buildings. They cannot gather lumber, which is done by Dendroid Treeherds instead.

Dendroid Treeherd

  • When Trees Attack: The Dendroid Treeherd is a tree that walks around and chops down other trees, and is also the only Worker Unit who isn't completely useless in a fight (case in point, they can be put into combat mode so they would count as part of your army and not show up as an idle worker).
  • Worker Unit: Dendroid Treeherds gather lumber and morph into three of Nature's structures. Since Dendroid Treeherds are more expensive and take up more population space, they carry 30 lumber per trip.

Sapling

  • Worker Unit: Saplings gather gold, build most Nature structures (except the Spellbringer, Dendroid Elder and Dendroid Chieftain) and repair buildings. Compared to the Artisan (who share the same functions), the Sapling does not cost gold (instead being summoned with a mana cost) but has a limited lifespan (which does not count down when it's building something).

Archer/Ranger

  • Vanilla Unit: The Archer is a simple ranged unit without any special ability.

Looter

  • Annoying Arrows: Looters, who already take reduced damage from Piercing attacks due to their armor type and can be upgraded with Agility to further halve this damage.
  • Devious Daggers: The Looter is a stealthy melee unit armed with a pair of daggers.
  • Loot-Making Attack: The Looter's Loot ability searches a nearby corpse for gold.

Phalanx

  • Mook Commander: Friendly units standing directly next to a Phalanx gain bonus armor.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The Phalanx's 'glaives' do not look much like what they're insisted to be.
  • Pinball Projectile: The Bouncing Glaives upgrade causes the Phalanx's attacks to bounce to up to two extra targets.

Enchantress

  • Attack Reflector: Thorns Armor reflects a percentage of damage inflicted back to any melee unit that attacks the recipient.
  • Healing Hands: The Enchantress can use Thorns Armor to heal friendly units.
  • Spawn Broodling: Leech Seed plants a seed inside an enemy that deals damage over time and spawns two Saplings when it dies.
  • Squishy Wizard: The Enchantress is a spellcaster with Unarmored armor and not a lot of hit points, and must be kept away from the front line.

Sprite

  • Breakable Power-Up: The healing from Soothe will be cancelled if the recipient takes damage.

Giant Toad

  • Amphibian at Large: The Giant Toad, as it name would indicate, is bigger than humans.
  • In a Single Bound: The Giant Toad can use Leap to jump forward a good distance.
  • Life Drain: Snatch deals damage to an enemy air unit and heals the Giant Toad by an equal amount.

Blight Widow

  • Anti-Structure: The Blight Widow deals Siege damage and outranges defensive structures.
  • Dual Mode Unit: The Blight Widow can spin a web around itself, rendering it immobile and invisible.
  • Giant Spider: The Blight Widow is far bigger than any real life spiders.
  • Poisonous Person: The Blight Widow spits gobs of poison that deal Siege damage and leave behind toxic pools that deal damage to enemies that pass over them.

Dendroid Warrior

  • Mighty Glacier: To offset their raw power, the Dendroid Warrior is one of the slowest units in the game.
  • Mook Commander: When upgraded with Canopy Cover, a Dendroid Warrior boosts the armor of nearby friendly units.
  • When Trees Attack: The Dendroid Warrior is a tree that can walk around and packs a punch thanks to its high damage.

Coatl

  • Anti-Air: While they can attack ground and air units, they don't deal a lot of damage to ground units, so their main use is to kill other air units.

Faerie Dragon

  • Mana Burn: Null Bomb removes the mana of the target and all nearby enemies.
  • Power Nullifier: Foes affected by Whirlwind cannot attack or cast spells and move very slowly.
  • See the Invisible: A Faerie Dragon can see nearby invisible enemies.
  • Time Bomb: A Null Bomb explodes three seconds after it's planted.

Ravenlord

Green Dragon

  • Acid Attack: The Acid Breath upgrade coats the Green Dragon's attacks in acid, dealing damage over time and reducing armor.
  • Giant Flyer: The Green Dragon is the largest flying unit in the game.

Tyrannosaurus Rex

  • No-Sell: The Tyrannosaurus Rex is immune to magic.
  • Tail Slap: The Tyrannosaurus Rex can use its tail to deal damage and fling enemies away.
  • Trampled Underfoot: The Tyrannosaurus Rex can step over ground units and push away enemies.
  • Terrifying Tyrannosaur: The Tyrannosaurus Rex is a mighty beast with the ability to fling enemy units away with its tail.

Great Stag

  • Mook Commander: The Great Stag increases the health regeneration and movement speed of nearby friendly units.
  • Nitro Boost: The Great Stag causes all nearby friendly units to move at maximum speed like itself.
  • No-Sell: The Great Stag Rex is immune to magic.
  • Trampled Underfoot: The Great Stag can step over ground units and push away enemies.

    Death

Lost Soul

  • Worker Unit: Lost Souls gather gold, summon Death buildings and repair buildings and mechanical units. Unlike other Worker Units, a Lost Soul only needs to start the construction of a building (which will then build itself), freeing up the Lost Soul to create more buildings or gather gold. They cannot gather lumber directly, which is done by Blight Factories instead.

Necromancer

  • Dual Mode Unit: By default, the Necromancer functions like any other military unit. When their summong ritual is active, they can train units but cannot move or attack.
  • Home Field Advantage: The Necromancer receives a massive armor bonus when standing on Blight.
  • Worker Unit: In place of a building, the Necromancer serves to produce all Death ground units.

Zombie

  • Dem Bones: When a Flesh Golem dies, it splits back into its components, now Fleshless Zombies (aka skeletons).
  • Multiple Life Bars: The Undying upgrade allows each Zombie to come back to (un)life exactly once after being killed.

Wraith

  • Defog of War: Their Haunt Area ability deploys an invisible spirit that gives vision over the surrounding area and detects invisible enemies.
  • See the Invisible: The Spirit summoned by Haunt Area can see invisible enemies.

Shepherd of Rot

  • Home Field Advantage: When cast off Blight, the Shepherd of Rot's Unholy Banner has a limited duration. When cast on Blight, it lasts indefinitely and also spreads further Blight around itself.
  • Mook Medic: The Shepherd of Rot's Unholy Banner boosts the health regeneration rate of nearby friendly units.
  • Plague Master: The Shepherd of Rot's Putrefy turns an ally into a carrier of a plague, which infects nearby enemies and explodes if killed.

Vampire

  • Life Drain: The Blood Thirst upgrade heals Vampires for a percentage of their attack damage.
  • Veteran Unit: The Vampire consumes the soul of each enemy it kills, permanently gaining 1 damage. The Blood Gorge upgrade allows it to transform into a Vampire Bloodfiend, which has more HP, upon attaining 10 kills.

Blood Mistress

  • Bat Out of Hell: The Blood Mistress' Devouring Swarm unleashes a swarm of bats that bites all enemies in the target area.
  • Mana Drain: Suck Mana instantly transfers mana from the target (friendly or enemy) unit to the Blood Mistress.

Immolator

  • Anti-Structure: The Immolator's fireballs deal Siege damage and can be thrown from where defensive structures cannot retaliate.
  • Playing with Fire: The Immolator attacks by throwing fireballs and can create a pillar of fire that deals damage to any enemy that steps inside it.

Lich

  • Increasingly Lethal Enemy: Liches do not naturally regenerate mana but has to gather it from nearby dying units. Accumulating enough allows them to unleash a powerful Soul Nova attack.

Stitchwing

  • Acid Attack: The Corrosive Bile upgrade coats the Stitchwing's attacks in acid, dealing damage over time.

Phantom Carriage

  • Defenseless Transports: Like every other aerial transport in the game, the Phantom Carriage is unarmed.
  • Dual Mode Unit: When airborne, the Phantom Carriage can move but do nothing else, not even loading and unloading units—it can only do so when landed on the ground, which also allows it to see invisible enemies but renders it immobile.
  • See the Invisible: When on the ground, a Phantom Carriage can see enemy invisible units.

Death Ray

  • Cyclops: The Death Ray's body is dominated by a single, very large eye.
  • Eye Beams: The Death Ray attacks by firing a beam from its only eye.

Mad Scientist

  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The Mad Scientist enters battle on the back of a giant fly.
  • Double-Edged Buff: Hyde Potion increases the recipient's attack and movement speed but silences and deals damage over time.
  • Flesh Golem: It's Alive! fuses all Zombies in a small area into a Flesh Golem.
  • Fusion Dance: It's Alive! fuses all Zombies in a small area into a Flesh Golem.
  • Power Nullifier: A unit affected by Hyde Potion is silenced during its duration.
  • Super Serum: The Hyde Potion, which can be fed to other units, boosts movement and attack speed, deals damage over time and silences the target.

Death Knight

  • Human Resources: Unlike the Avatar of Command and Tyrannosaurus Rex (which is transformed from a friendly unit and turns back when their duration ends), summoning a Death Knight requires the sacrifice of a friendly unit, whose HP determines the Death Knight's starting mana.
  • No-Sell: The Death Knight is immune to magic.

Black Pyramid

  • Human Resources: Summoning a Black Pyramid requires the sacrifice of a friendly unit.
  • Invincible Minor Minion: The Black Pyramid is completely invulnerable but only lasts 20 seconds.
  • Ray Gun: During its entire duration, the Black Pyramid fires a green beam directly downwards, dealing damage to anything beneath it and spreading Blight.
  • Sickly Green Glow: The Black Pyramid and its beam glow green.

Spellbringers

    Shared Tropes
  • Arbitrary Headcount Limit: Each player can only have one Spellbringer at any time.
  • Cast from Money: Zigzagged. While a Spellbringer's spells only cost mana like any other, it's possible to spend gold to give your Spellbringer a quick boost to mana regeneration.
  • Defog of War: Every Spellbringer has its own method of temporarily removing the fog of war and detecting invisible foes from anywhere on the map:
    • The Eye of Valantor's Vision simply reveals a circular area for a limited amount of time.
    • The Shaela's Chosen sends an untargetable Spirit Owl which flies to the target point, revealing areas along the way and staying at the destination for a slightly longer time.
    • The Heart of Ket deploys an Evil Eye, an immobile observer that watches over the target area but can be attacked and destroyed before its duration expires.
  • Hero Unit: The Spellbringer is a powerful building that can cast powerful global spells and is limited to one per player, replacing heroes from the vanilla game (unlike vanilla heroes, the Spellbringer does not use the Three-Stat System, cannot use items or gain experience—its in-game level solely denotes how many unlockable spells have been researched).
  • Religion is Magic: Each Spellbringer is a conduit through which gods grant magical powers to their followers, allowing mortals to direct them and cast powerful spells.
  • See the Invisible: All Spellbringers' Defog of War spells also reveal invisible enemies in the area of effect.
  • Support Power: The Spellbringer is a building treated in-game as a hero (and thus can easily be selected at any given point in the game) and grants access to an array of spells that, as a rule, can be cast anywhere on the map.

    Eye of Valantor (Order)

  • Barrier Warrior: Divine Intervention increases a friendly unit's armor by 99999, rendering it all but immune to physical damage. Battle Standard gives an ally a banner that increases the armor of all nearby units.
  • Power Nullifier: Enemies hit by Gavel of Judgement are silenced and slowed.

    Shaela's Chosen (Nature)

  • Eye Scream: The crows summoned by Murder of Crows peck at the eyes of enemies, reducing their accuracy.
  • Green Thumb: The Shaela's Chosen can use Grasping Vines to entangle an enemy in vines and Entwine to cover a friendly building in roots which heal it and attack nearby enemies.
  • Weather Manipulation: Cloud of Mist covers an area in fog, causing attacks to miss any unit inside.
  • When Trees Attack: The Shaela's Chosen is transformed from a Dendroid Treeherd and still resembles a tree with a face, even though it can no longer move around and smack enemies (it uses magic instead).

    Heart of Ket (Death)

  • Animate Dead: Animate Dead temporarily reanimates a dead unit as an undead monster, which has more damage, hit points and mana but moves slower and has a limited (un)lifespan.
  • Plague Master: Zombie Plague infects organic ground units with a plague that reduces damage and causes them to spawn Zombies if killed.
  • Total Eclipse of the Plot: Eclipse fills the land in darkness, reducing the vision range of non-Death units and structures, boosts the armor of Death structures and the movement speed of Vampires, and turns Evil Eyes invisible.
