Main Characters

     Catalina Marin Santana

Also known as Catalina The Young, she's the daughter of Albeiro and Hilda.

  • Beauty Equals Goodness: In her case is played straight. She's a good girl that always wants to do what's right, is respectful and fair and everyone remarks how her beauty is enhanced by her attitude.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Even though she suffered abuse and even almost died in the correctional, the worst she got was a few scratches on her face and a bad haircut (that was fixed shortly after her release) which did nothing to diminish her looks
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Several times in the series she gives both her parents a "Reason You Suck" Speech, but there were 2 occasions that stand out: First, when she calls them out for overprotecting her, especially her mother, not letting her enjoy her youth nor letting her realize what were the dangers that surrounded her, especially when it came with interacting with Daniela. The second time, it was because she was told by Martina that her father was actually her half sister's boyfriend before he got together with their mom, feeling completely betrayed by him and as a laughingstock after realizing everyone in the neighborhood knew, even her closest friends.
  • Dude Magnet: A lot of the male characters develop some form of crush on her, some with good intentions others... not so much
  • Dead Guy Junior: Was named Catalina in honor of her then recently deceased sister. To avoid confusion, they refer to her as the young or the little one.
  • Determinator: No matter the times she's knocked down, she gets back up ready to raise all kinds of hell
  • Indifferent Beauty: While everyone is amazed by her looks, she doesn't particularly care and keeps her style simple.
  • Love at First Sight: With Nacho
  • Rags to Riches: After La Diabla is captured and her schemes regarding Marcial's inheritance discovered, Catalina's family receive all the money and properties.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Her goal is to destroy La Diabla and her daughter, consequences be damned.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: The same as her older sister. A lot of people go crazy over her beauty and most of them would do anything to own her or destroy her.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Justified. She always fought fiercely for her independence and freedom but always kept being mindful of her parents and friends. However, after spending time in a correctional for a crime she didn't commit, where she was tortured and finally learning bits and pieces of her family history, she stops being all that nice and naive, fighting and calling out anyone who tries to stop her.
  • Trauma Conga Line: The moment she crossed the yellow line she hasn't been able to find a moment of peace. She has been imprisoned, beaten, humiliated, have her boyfriend taken from her side, had her body modified against her will, had to watch the people she loved and cared for in danger or killed,it goes on and on...
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Do not mess with Hernán Darío. She would move heaven and earth to find a way to get back at you.

     Hernán Darío

Also known as "Nacho", he was a delivery boy in the neighbourhood who fell in love with Catalina

  • Chick Magnet: Several girls have shown interest in him but he only has eyes for Catalina
  • Forced into Evil: As a way to keep her daughter happy, La Diabla had Hernán Darío become an assassin for her organisation and later on her daughter's bodyguard, forcing him to perform heinous acts to prove his loyalty all in exchange of having his mother, who was kidnapped under Yésica's orders, be kept alive and safe
  • Rags to Riches: While not at the same scale as Catalina, nor was it entirely legal, he can now afford to pay for college with ease.
  • Took a Level in Badass: As explained before, he was threatened by La Diabla to become a henchman but in the end it helped him become adept at using firearms, fight and have some knowledge in tactics and strategies which would become useful in the war against Yésica.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Similar to Catalina's case. Being mistreated and abused because of the whims of people like Daniela and Yesica has roughened him up enough to be more willing to act ruthlessly when necessary.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Daniela's obsession with him and her jealousy because of his relationship with Catalina prompt her to use her mother's power to make his life miserable in every way imaginable and force him to become one of La Diabla's henchman so to always keep him by her side

Supporting Characters

     Adriana
Daughter of Vanessa, a close friend of Catalina

  • Bury Your Gays: Just after she came out to her father figure, Jota, she was caught in an explosion that caused severe damage to her body
  • Childhood Friends: With Catalina and, especially, Valentina
  • The Heart: While Catalina can be quite nurturing and caring, out of the three is Adriana the one that tries to keep the peace and the optimism, urging everyone on. This is why her death is such a painful blow and deciding factor in the war.
  • Incompatible Orientation: She was in love with Valentina ever since they were little but her crush only had interest in men and actually reacted badly to Adriana's love declaration
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: She was a nice, loyal and kind girl who wanted nothing more than to graduate high school, study medicine and support her mom. She also was willing to stay by Valentina's side, loving her in silence and just staying friends if that was what made her happy.
  • Sacrificial Lion: We spend a lot of time watching the girls go through several high risk situations together, learning more about Adriana, only to see her die a painful and slow death that is a final push for everyone to finally say enough and strike back once and for all against las Diablas.
  • Undying Loyalty

     Valentina
Daughter of Ximena, a close friend of Catalina

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Has a short-lived but intense romance with one of La Diabla's henchman
  • Childhood Friends: With Catalina and, especially, Adriana
  • Pet the Dog: When Adriana was in her deathbed, Valentina gave her what would be her first and last kiss, asking for forgiveness for her harsh rejection and reassuring Adriana that she loved her both as a friend and as a woman.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Along with the rest of the cast, she has to quickly find new ways to fight back and becomes more assertive and proactive
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Early on in the 3rd series, she was kidnapped by a serial killer that took several other girls and women, including Lucía. However, even when they're found, we only know what happened with Lucía and nothing about Valentina, only that she's alive somewhere.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Catalina, no matter how tough things get, she always has her friend's back.

     Daniel
A journalist that ends up becoming a close ally and friend to the Marin Santana

  • Clear My Name: After he uncovers the fact that the mayor's wife was abusing her husband's power to imprison Catalina and her family, creating such a public backlash that it's enough to free them, it puts a target on his back and la Diabla plants evidence to discredit him, prompting him to hide and find ways to avoid detection while also helping Catalina in her revenge.
  • Intrepid Reporter: Has no qualms in going after a story even when it's guaranteed that it could be dangerous
  • Ladykiller in Love: Although not shown, he admits he had his fair share of affairs but he wants to leave that behind and stay only with Lucia
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: The one who thwarted Yesica's plan to torture Catalina's family and threatened to expose her as a drug lord nicknamed La Diabla, unfortunately, she managed to turn the tables and have everyone believe he is the drug lord, putting him and everyone he loves in danger
  • Spanner in the Works: Him alongside Dr. Ernesto (who was killed after alerting Daniel regarding Catalina's situation) were the main reason Catalina and her family were able to get out of prison, letting them reunite with old and new allies who are preparing to strike against La Diabla
  • Took a Level in Badass: Along with several other characters, he becomes proficient in the use of guns and can hold his own in a fight
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Check, check and check

     Lucía

An artist and neighbour to Daniel that ends up caught up in the mess

  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: She was tortured for several days, even had a big cut on her head and yet, when she's seen again, she looks shaken but not a visible mark is seen.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Is jealous of how close Catalina is to Daniel and has a suspicion that he's attracted to her, which makes her act hostile against the girl
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: She sheltered Daniel and helped him avoid capture quite a few times but she also ends up caught in the smear campaign against him and is captured and tortured by La Diabla, almost to the point of killing her

     Dr. Ernesto Rico
A doctor and the first person to help Catalina while she was trapped in a correctional.

  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: He wished to help Catalina and her family, standing up to La Diabla which resulted in him being threatened, fired and, ultimately, killed
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Averted. Both Catalina and Daniel mention him whenever they talked about the good people they lost due to La Diabla's cruelty.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: He was a doctor that appeared in the very beginning of the series and was killed off shortly after introduction. But, his actions kickstarted a series of events that would allow for the Marin Santana to regain their freedom and able to get in contact with allies that needed the family to move forward with their own plans to get rid of La Diabla once and for all.
  • Spanner in the Works: Had it been any other person in his position, the events of the series wouldn't have happened the way they did. He is the reason why Daniel got involved in the Marin Santana family case and gave him enough of a lead to expose Yésica as La Diabla.
  • We Hardly Knew You: Almost nothing was known about his character, besides the fact that he was one of the few people in the area that wasn't easily bought or bullied by La Diabla. His last actions were to alert Daniel of the increasing danger they were in.

     Pipe
A henchman for la Diabla, became Hernán Darío's friend

  • Almost Dead Guy: After receiving several gunshot wounds, he spends his las minutes cradled by his mom conveying her one last message for Valentina and Hernán Darío, regarding the money he stole from La Diabla.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He once had a sister he tried to protect but Yésica had her killed to teach him a lesson. Later on, he will have Hernán Darío both as an ally and close friend who he tries to protect and shield from the worst
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: The reason why he has stayed by la Diabla's side all this time is because she has his mother threatened
  • Forced into Evil: While he never was an upstanding citizen, he also wasn't a ruthless and coldhearted criminal and La Diabla had both his sister and mother kidnapped to keep him in line and "loyal".
  • Sacrificial Lion: Due to his connection and protection of Hernán Darío, we learn much about his life and his goals, especially his desire to save his mom. However, after it's known that he betrayed La Diabla, he dies protecting his mom and leaving her with one final message for Hernán Darío regarding where he hid their money.
  • The Mentor: He was assigned as a guide of sorts to Hernán Darío to teach (and warn) him what does the job entails.

     Chucky
Right hand man and assistant to Marcial

  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: After the death of the man he saw as a father, he took the money that was left to him in order to fund his quest for retribution against Daniela and Titi.
  • The Stoic: He was levelheaded and kept his cool, however that went out the window when Marcial was killed by el Titi.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: After the death of Marcial, he was furious and was far more violent than when the elder man was alive. It was quite jarring seeing him treat his allies rather harshly after all they went through together.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Marcial and was by his side until the very end.

     Dr. Santiago Sanin
The doctor that saved Catalina the Elder and, later on, her husband

  • Green-Eyed Monster: Has a lot of mixed feelings regarding Albeiro but manages to have a cordial relationship with him. However, when Catalina was ordered to lure el Titi, he got more and more suspicious regarding whatever lingering feelings and tension between them and it put a strain on his marriage.
  • Ladykiller in Love: He used to date several women, with only one semi-serious relationship, before meeting Catalina and falling for her.

Villains

     Daniela Barrera

The only daughter of La Diabla, she's the heir to her mother's drug empire

  • Abhorrent Admirer: To Nacho. Almost everything she does is to try and find ways to keep him by her side. Even her mother is somewhat worried about her obsession with the guy.
  • Always Someone Better: Despite having all the money and power (and flaunting it at every turn) she still feels less than Catalina the Young in several other aspects, angrily lashing out whenever anyone says something positive about her rival
  • Brainless Beauty: No one denies that she's attractive but you also won't hear anyone saying anything positive regarding her intelligence (except her mom and grandma). Case in point: her mother had strictly told her to be careful and keep the combination to the safe holding all their wealth really close to the chest and secret, however, at the first chance she got she told Hernán Darío where and what did that safe hold and carelessly left the combination lying around.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: She gives her mom some "Reason You Suck" Speech that may start as tantrums due to not getting her way but that quickly turn into Daniela telling Yésica some harsh truths regarding how she became the way she is, like how it was her mom that helped her feel inferior by letting her do all sorts of cosmetic surgeries.
  • Daddy Issues: Never met her real dad and after Yesica killed him she never will, which has affected her especially in her relationship with her stepfather, who she truly thought of as a parental figure but who ended up taking advantage of her.
  • Driven to Suicide: By the end of the second season, Daniela had already suffered several blows that damaged her self esteem and mental health: losing all their wealth, being on the run and threatened, having the only father figure she knew take advantage of her while her mom was in jail and unable to reach her, but the biggest hit came when she lost the beauty pageant she was so desperate to win to Catalina the Young, even watching Hernán Darío be right beside her while being crowned. This was enough to push her into committing suicide.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: If Yésica had listened to Daniela's pleas of running away with the great amount of cash they already had with them when she told her to, instead of trying to get every single hiding place they owned, they would have had ample time to escape or hide from both their enemies and the DEA.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She hates Catalina the Young because she's in a relationship with Hernán Darío, the only boy Daniela has ever loved
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The entire beginning of the second season is this. For all she aided and encouraged her mom to threaten and persecute the people she hated to the point they needed to go into hiding or even take their own lives to have the harassment stop, she was now on the receiving end of such hatred once her mom was taken away, being scorned and attacked. This also applies to every time she flaunted her wealth and power to anyone who could see only for the money and properties to be taken from her and passed to the Marin Santana, the very people she hates with her entire being.
  • Rich Bitch: And she never let anyone forget
  • Riches to Rags: After her mom is taken by the TEA, all of their assets are returned to Marcial Barrera, who quickly passes them onto Catalina's family, leaving nothing for Daniela because it was demonstrated that she's not his biological daughter, and now has to find ways to survive on what little she does have until her mother can somehow return.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Beautiful!: A lot of the arguments she uses to get her way revolves around the fact that she's attractive and because she's rich
  • Spoiled Brat: Her mother gave her everything she ever asked for and never taught her how to share.

     Aníbal Manrique
Mayor of the city, husband of Yesica

  • Cassandra Truth: In many occasions, he tried to convince Yésica that the one behind the messages and threats to her wealth was Marcial, but she was adamant that he couldn't be as he was in jail, and many others were pointing at Gato Gordo or Catalina the Young and her family while Yésica blamed Catalina the Elder.
  • Corrupt Politician: Was one even before he met and married Yesica
  • Dirty Old Man: After Yesica's faked death he tried to seduce Daniela, his step-daughter and in the second series with Yesica behind bars he kept on hitting on her
  • Oh, Crap!: When he found out that Yesica faked her death, which meant that she was coming back to personally deal with the person who stole her safe.
    • Another instance was when he realised that Daniela's sweet aunt was actually his estranged wife in disguise

     Gato Gordo
La Diabla's former right hand man

  • Abhorrent Admirer: To Catalina. He has been observing her since she was thirteen years old and, although he waited a few years until she was 18 and had every intention of marrying her, he also was willing to kill whoever would get in his way to get her.
  • The Dragon: Right hand man to la Diabla for several years. He was the one who helped her set up her drug empire and power.
    • Dragon with an Agenda: Though it was partly a manipulation by Marcial to divide la Diabla's strength, he had been thinking about becoming more independent and setting up his own drug business, whether Yesica liked it or not.

     Mugroso

One of the main henchmen of La Diabla.

  • Bad Boss: He copies La Diabla's style of leadership: screaming, insulting and intimidating whoever it is in his path. He considers himself above everyone (except, of course, La Diabla and her daughter) so his arrogance and abrasive manners gain him a lot of enemies.
  • The Dragon: After the betrayal of Gato Gordo, he steps up to be her closest confidant even when is clear she doesn't respect him as much as her former associate.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: Many instances show just how much care and admiration he gives La Diabla, always willing to go along her plans, no matter how dangerous or outlandish they are, but he receives little to no compensation, with her treating his devotion as a given and a favor to him.
  • Undying Loyalty: For La Diabla, he never leaves her side and is completely on board with whatever it is she wants.

     Chelo

     Martina

The madame in the neighbourhood and daughter of Paola

  • Calling the Old Man Out: She angrily calls out her mom after she came back and started trying to act as a parent. While Paola was involved in a series of difficult circumstances that prevented her from being there, Martina berates her over the fact that Ximena and Vanessa were in similar situations but they never left their children like Paola did.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Especially when talking with Gato Gordo or with Valentina and Adriana
  • Jerkass: She's blunt and has little regard for other people's feelings, caring more about making money using others.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: While calling her a friend would be much of a stretch, she has known Catalina, Valentina, Adriana and Daniela since childhood and grew up with them. Still, it says something that no one, except her mother's closest friends, went to her funeral with Catalina the Young even stating she cared nothing about her
  • Woman Scorned: Had a relationship with Titi and she thought it would last but, after he re-started his criminal activities, he left and even used her services to get more girls so, she spent a good part of the third series wanting to find a way to get revenge.

     Dayana

The new madame in the neighbourhood

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: On the receiving end of a beating twice and it was by both Catalinas
  • Depraved Bisexual: She likes men but she leans more towards women and she lures them into becoming prostitutes. Has a somewhat unhealthy attachment towards Mariana.
  • Jerkass: Even more than Martina, and that's saying something.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Her nickname is La Demonia(i.e: Demon)
  • Remember the New Guy?: Neither her or her sister were mentioned or appeared in the first or even at the beginning of the second series but apparently she has been around the place since forever and was Martina's competition.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: She has a rise in power similar to La Diabla's, going from being a madame to be part in leading a drug empire along with Titi and Mariana, using and getting rid of people along the way.
