The Shirt Tales
Rick Raccoon
Voiced by: Ronnie Schell, Steve Schatzberg (in 4 episodes)
- The Ace: Cool, calm, level-headed, quick-thinking. In other words: A natural-born leader.
- Catchphrase: In season one, "It's zoom time!"
- The Leader: He's the leader of the Shirt Tales during the first season.
- Out of Focus: In the second season, his role is greatly reduced to that of a minor and he's even absent from a few episodes.
Tyg Tiger
Voiced by: Steve Schatzberg
- The Big Guy: He's the strongest of the Shirt Tales and loves working out.
- Catchphrase:
- "TOING!" Whenever he zooms off.
- "I'm Tyg and I'm tough!"
- In the second season, "It's Shirt Tale time, gang!"
- Cool Uncle: Is this to his hyper (and annoying) nephew, T.J.
- The Leader: Becomes this in the second season after Rick is Demoted to Extra.
Pammy Panda
Voiced by: Patricia Parris
- Cool Big Sis: Is this to Kip.
- Damsel in Distress: Has been captured by the villain several times in season one ("Crumbling's Circus Caper", "The Big Foot Incident", "Pam-dora's Box").
- Pink Means Feminine: Her dress and bow.
- The Smart Girl: Appears to be the smartest of the Shirt Tales, even leads the team sometimes, and is capable of fixing and inventing things. She once created a robot in "The Rain, the Park and the Robot".
- The Smurfette Principle: Pammy is the only female member of the Shirt Tales, until Kip joins in the second season.
Digger Mole
Voiced by: Robert Allen Ogle
- Fast Tunnelling: Digger's best-known skill. It especially helped save the day in "Dinkel's Ark".
- Lovable Coward: Would much rather stay behind than get involved in a dangerous situation, but would never hesitate to help a friend in need.
- The Runaway: In "Digger Runs Away".
Bogey Orangutan
Voiced by: Fred Travalena
- Trademark Favorite Food: Bananas.
- Verbal Tic: "Schweetheart". It's also not the only he does, "Sam".
Kip Kangaroo
Voiced by: Nancy Cartwright
- The Baby of the Bunch: Kip is the youngest, smallest, and newest member of the Shirt Tales.
- Pintsized Powerhouse: Has incredibly strong legs, often displaying powerful kicking and jumping skills. Occasionally, her jumping would cause everything to shake as if there were an earthquake.
- Sixth Ranger: Kip is added to the team in second season.
Other Characters
Mr. Dinkel
Voiced by: Herb Vigran
- Accidental Misnaming: In the first season, the Shirt Tales would often mispronounce Dinkel's name.
- Control Freak: As the park custodian, he can be very strict about the park rules. He's constantly barking orders, making perfectly sure the Shirt Tales are doing their chores (while he just lays around) and (tries to) make sure none of them leaves the park.
- Fake Ultimate Hero: The Shirt Tales often let Dinkel take the credit for solving a problem or catching the villain.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Can be a real grouch sometimes, but does care for the Shirt Tales, whom he refers to as "little furballs".
- Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Most evident in "Back to Nature". He acts like he knows what he's doing, but usually ends up messing up.
- Loves My Alter Ego: Idolizes the Shirt Tales and calls them his heroes, but sees the five (later six) little critters of Oak Tree Park as annoying, mischief-makers who need to be kept in line.
- Only One Name: His first name is never mentioned.
Commissioner
Voiced by: William Woodson
- A Day in the Limelight / Distressed Dude: Gets kidnapped by the villain, Master Mind, in "The Commissioner Is Missing".
- Mission Control: Calls the Shirt Tales whenever a serious crime arouses.
- Only One Name: Neither his first or last name is ever revealed. He's just called "Commissioner".
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Never appears in season two.
