Edith
A single mother of four living in North Carolina.
- Accidental Murder: The Fire that killed her children only became as bad as it did because she opened the front door and the monster outright tells Edith that she killed her kids, the nurses point out however that she couldn’t have known that at the time and can’t be held accountable for it.
- Good Parents: Edith is a fantastic and caring mother to her children … which makes her failing to save them even more tragic.
- Insanity Establishment Scene: After seemingly having been just a normal mother the whole game, the ending reveals through a conversation between two nurses that she is a mental patient who has been hallucinating the whole story because her children died from a fire she inadvertently exacerbated. To drive it home, we see her in a straitjacket, tears flowing from her eyes.
- Mama Bear: When the monster threatens her children, she does everything she can to save them, even throwing her flashlight at the monster in a (failed) attempt to save Sophia.
- Tempting Fate: During the second night, she tells Sophia, who is scared about a monster coming to get them, that no monster will hurt them as long as she is around. In the third night, an actual monster shows up, and Edith cannot save the children no matter what you do.
Edith's Children (General)
The four kids who live with Edith.
- Dead All Along: All of them died in a fire long before the actual game, which is a dream that an insane Edith is having.
- Death of a Child: All four of them get killed by the monster. And that is just within Edith's dream- in the real world, they died in a fire, and their deaths are what drove Edith to insanity.
- Kill the Cutie: As it was made for the Kill The Cutie event, it was bound to happen. All four of Edith's adorable children burned in the fire, and Edith's nightmare has them killed by the monster.
- Posthumous Character: They died before the story began; the ones we see exist only within the mind of Edith.
Penny
One of Edith's children.
- Cool Big Sis: She is the smartest of the four kids and, on the third night, helps them with their homework so they can have time to play hide-and-seek with Edith.
Megan
One of Edith's children.
Ronnie
One of Edith's children.
- The One Guy: The only boy among the family.
Sophia
One of Edith's children.
- Girls Love Stuffed Animals: She sleeps with a plushie called Mr. Stuffies.
- Literal-Minded: She thought that America was a state because the official name is the "United States of America", apparently not noticing the plural.
- Properly Paranoid: She talks about monsters and how she is trying to protect the family, doing things like turning on all the lights every night. In the second night, when a visitor is knocking on the door and then disappears, she claims that the monster "wants to kill us all". Seems like a child playing pretend and being scared of the dark, until an actual monster comes in.
The Monster
You're all going to die.
A humanoid monster that targets Edith and her children.
- Big Bad: It is the thing coming after Edith and her children, and Edith wants to protect her children from it.
- Mental Monster: It represents the fire that killed the children, the oxygen that made the fire grow, and Edith's guilt for letting the oxygen in.
- No Name Given: It is only identified as "the monster". Justified given that it only exists in Edith's mind.
- Would Hurt a Child: It goes after Edith's four children, seeking to kill them.
