    The Virtues in General

Seven angels from Heaven that stand in opposition to the Mortal Sins. To counter the influence Demon Lords have on humans, they go to Earth to try to guide humans into a path of virtue as per God's will, including searching for candidates to be the Messiah.

  • Angelic Beauty: All of them.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: The Seven Virtues are allegedly the strongest in Heaven, embodying the best in mankind. In reality, the majority are incompetent and struggle to uphold their titular Virtues.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Their names are traditionally considered masculine.
  • Gender Flip: The angels they are named after are often stated to be genderless, but they are usually portrayed as males, at least in appearance. Those angels here are undoubtedly female.
  • Hero with an F in Good: God knows they try, but most of their plans to train their Messiah Candidates end up doing more harm than good for them.
  • Irony: None of the angels live up to their designated virtues: Uriel (Patience) has a short temper according to her own profile and doesn’t have the patience to pause and reconsider her actions due to how stubbornly she sticks to them, even if they inconvenience her or others; Raphael (Temperance) struggles with a sweet tooth and obsesses over dieting; Sandalphon (Diligence) takes long naps and breaks; Metatron (Charity) is prone to forcing her care on people and has a Split Personality that actually enjoys seeing people in pain; Sariel (Kindness) spoils others and is over-indulgent and Gabriel (Chastity), as pointed below, wears a very skimpy outfit. Even Michael, who is normally the only one to properly represent her virtue, is a victim to this when it is shown that she has a moment in losing faith in humanity even thinking of destroying it despite being the angel of faith.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: For a group of Heavenly servants, they are not nearly as serious or capable as one would expect.
  • Stripperific: Just as bad as their demonic counterparts. Michael has an outfit that cover a decent amount of skin, but the others… don’t.
  • Winged Humanoid: Similar to the horns of the demons, angels have wings to represent their angel-hood, albeit on different parts of their bodies. For example, Raphael has hers on her hips while Metatron has her wings on her boots.

    Michael

The first angel introduced. She is an Archangel and the leader of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, representing Faith.

To see her tropes in Seven Mortal Sins, go here.

  • Adaptational Heroism: Was a villain in the previous series, but is a hero this time around with the goal of attaining a new Messiah to allow humans to live with virtue.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Was a bit of a Psycho Lesbian in the previous series, but as with the other virtues here, a lot of her perverted mishaps are with men they believe to be Messiah material.
  • Archangel Michael: As a sexy woman.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: In the final episode, all the Virtues return back to Heaven , and it is implied that as in the case of Raphael , they were forced to leave their candidates and maybe even erase their memories of their time with the angels , since Michael directly addresses the target audience of heterosexual males in her parting message: “Maybe we’ll visit your town next!”.
  • Commissar Cap: She sports one, as part of her military style.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Played for Laughs, but she is very strict when it comes to training. She puts her candidate through a truly Spartan training regime (her candidate being a perfectly average guy, mind you) and later does the same to the other Virtues. By the end Michael is the only one still standing.
  • Good Is Not Nice: When the time came to find a candidate to be the Messiah, she picks the first human she comes across and begins training him like a soldier.
  • The Leader: Of the Seven Heavenly Virtues obviously.
  • Light Is Good: Even with her Good Is Not Nice tough attitude, Character Rerailment has her take up the more positive traits associated with Michael, as she leads the forces of light for the sake of redeeming humanity with a Messiah.
  • Not So Stoic: One normally wouldn’t think that the word “adorable” could be associated with someone as straight-laced as Michael, but turns out that when her favorite dish is in front of her, her personality does a 180.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Egg-based dishes in general, particularly omelet.
  • Training from Hell:
    • She immediately subjects her chosen Candidate to harsh physical training, intending for him to fight Lucifer himself.
    • She gives one to the other Virtues in episode 9, both so they can better themselves and make an incentive video for their candidates.
  • Undying Loyalty: As the representative of Faith, she is utterly loyal to God.
  • Vapor Wear: She doesn’t wear a bra, as she unintentionally shows to a messiahs candidate.

    Uriel

Uriel

An Archangel, and one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues. She represents Patience, and serves as an intelligence operative for Heaven. In spite of her Virtue, she is said to have a serious personality and a short temper.

  • Archangel Uriel: As a sexy woman.
  • Bunny Girl: She has a pair of wings on her head, which resemble bunny ears. Bonus art even dresses her up as a Playboy Bunny.
  • Ceiling Cling: At one point, her "stealth" involves very visibly hanging from the ceiling.
  • Cleavage Window: Sports a very un-angelic cut-out, showing off generous cleavage.
  • The Comically Serious: Keeps a straight face while following her Messiah candidate around, even when her attempts at being stealth become more obvious and desperate. As much as she tries though, the “straight face” doesn’t last long.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Her arms. She wears armor in her left one and a fisher net on her right one. She also has a wing coming out of her right wrist but nothing of the short in her left.
  • Forgot About Her Powers: Her focus episode deals with her antics as a Highly-Visible Ninja, but the very next episode reveals that angels can become invisible to humans if they will it (which was already stated in the previous anime). Either she wanted to pointlessly challenge herself or she flat-out forgot about her own powers.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: She thinks she's incredibly stealthy, but in reality everyone can see her and she repeatedly disrupts her Candidate's life.
  • Nice Job Breaking It Heroine: Her actions cause her Candidate to get fired from his job.
  • Not So Stoic: As the Virtue of Patience she tries to act like The Stoic, but she can’t keep it for long. Be it because she actually has an emotional nature, because of her bad temper or simply because nature is calling her.
  • Playing with Fire: She can manipulate fire, just like her counterpart in the Mortal Sins. Since there isn't any fighting in this anime, this information is relegated to All There in the Manual.
  • Potty Emergency: Has one throughout her episode but refuses to go, until her candidate tells her where it is.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Her entire back and butt are uncovered.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Played for Laughs. She stalks her Candidate everywhere he goes, and declares she's fallen for him. Her antics become less and less subtle, until he finally ends up losing his job.
  • Stocking Filler: She wears thigh-high stockings, with a fishnet back.

    Raphael

Raphael

Voiced by: Lynn (Japanese), Courtney Lomelo (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0b8ea6de9c82d158fd1a121f8b0a19d8bd3e420f.jpg

An Archangel and one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, representing Temperance. She is obsessed with human fashion trends, particularly the "Gal" subculture.

  • Archangel Raphael: As a sexy woman. Her shirt leaves her stomach exposed, and her skirt is slung as low as possible.
  • Big Eater: For the Angel of Temperance, she sure likes to "do research" on desserts.
  • Boyfriend Bluff: Gender inverted. She allows her candidate to tell his friends she is his girlfriend to help with his social life.
  • Genki Girl: Very energetic and loud.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair in short pigtails.
  • Gyaru Girl: She imitates the human trend, dressing and acting like one.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: She decides against recruiting her Candidate, recognizing that becoming the Messiah would prevent him from following his dream of becoming a master pastry chef.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: After deciding not to recruit her Candidate, Raphael removes all memories of her interactions on Earth.
  • Nice Girl: She may have too much energy for some people to handle, but nonetheless she is friendly and considerate. Notable, unlike Michael and Uriel, who more or less forced their view of how a Messiah should be on their candidates, Raphael didn’t even try training a candidate she found, because she knew he would be happier living as a human and following his dream.
  • Only Sane Man: She does have her quirks, but even then she is still the most socially adept of the Virtues and the one who understands humans the best. While the other Virtues often fail to help their Messiah candidates and ultimately make things worse for them, Raphael quickly understood the problems her candidate was facing and how to solve them. Hers was the only candidate to unambiguously end the episode better than he started.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Episode 3 portrays her as a Shameless Fanservice Girl. After spilling ice cream all over her body, she lets her candidate get a good look at her naked skin when she asks him to wipe it for her. This is very weird for her, as episode 11 and one Short Story in the official site show that she does feel shame when people see her exposed body. Even if we assume that her behavior changes when she is around people she likes, the aforementioned scene happened in public, where plenty of strangers could see her.
  • Sailor Fuku: She wears a very small school uniform.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves anything sweet, and tries to get around it with low-calorie or low-fat options.
  • Underboobs: Her shirt constantly rides up, just barely keeping her assets under cover.
  • Vapor Wear: She isn't wearing a bra, and her thong barely covers anything.

    Sandalphon

Sandalphon

Voiced by: Shiori Izawa (Japanese), Rachael Messer (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8cc98758d109b3deb327afc6c7bf6c81810a4c0f.jpg

An angel and one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, representing Diligence. She is an inventor, and always worries for her sister, Metatron.

  • A-Cup Angst: She is implied to have this in episode 10.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Mixed. In the official arts, she’s White-passing like the rest of the cast, but in the anime itself , her skintone is of a slightly tanned color that is still noticeably darker than the other angels. In fact , the only character physically-darker than her is her BFF Belphegor.
  • Bungling Inventor: She's a talented engineer, but her inventions tend to go array in the long run.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: The armor she wears in her left arm is much bigger than the one in the right, and she only has one wing on her head, on the right side.
  • Friendly Enemy: She and Belphegor, the Demon Lord that embodies the Sin opposite to Sandalphon's Virtue, are in such friendly terms that she is willing to ask her for hints on how to help her Messiah Candidate.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: She repeatedly berates her Candidate for not focusing on his studies, not seeming to realize that she is the reason he can't focus. She wears nothing but an apron while cooking, and flashes her Thong of Shielding and Side Boob at him to the point it's a miracle he could even study at all.
  • Naked Apron: Dons one while cooking for her Messiah Candidate. She is totally oblivious to how it does not help him concentrate on his studies.
  • Odd Friendship: She and Belphegor are pen pals, despite being the representatives of the Virtue of Diligence and the Sin of Sloth, which are opposites.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Sandalphon is hard-working and serious, in comparison to the easy-going and ditzy Metatron.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Not to Uriel's degree, but most of her back and butt are uncovered.
  • Thong of Shielding: She wears a thong with her armor, which makes her candidate very uncomfortable.
  • Token Mini-Moe: The most youthful in appearance among the Virtues.
  • Wrench Wench: A mechanic and engineer, as well as a cute girl.

    Metatron

Metatron

Voiced by: Ari Ozawa (Japanese), Brittney Karbowski (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/48dfc409b3de9c82e1fdb2216781800a18d8430f.jpg

An angel and one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, representing Charity. She is the sister of Sandalphon, and often worries her sister with her careless personality.

  • Apologizes a Lot: Since she is very ditzy but also very gentle, she starts apologizing whenever she does something wrong in her job, which happens often.
  • Big Little Sister: She calls Sandalphon her big sister, but she is taller than her.
  • Cleavage Window: In a heart-shape, to boot.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Her eyes match her hair, blue on the top and pink on the bottom.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She's very accident-prone, tripping and spilling hot soup on her Candidate.
  • The Ditz: She is clumsy and a bit foolish.
  • Hospital Hottie: Her outfit is essentially a super-sexy Nurse outfit.
  • Induced Hypochondria: Prone to deciding people need treatment, even when they're actually fine.
  • The Ingenue: A very gentle girl, but also a foolish person who doesn’t know much about the human world and often gets tricked because she naively trusts anyone.
  • Nice Girl: Her position as the Virtue of Charity isn’t just for show; this girl doesn’t have a single mean bone in her body. In her default personality, that is. The other one is a different story.
  • Polar Opposite Twins: Metatron is ditzy and careless, often worrying the more serious Sandalphon.
  • Psycho Serum: She carries a magical serum that supposedly cures any ill, but also has the side-effect of temporarily transforming her into a sadist.
  • Sadist: Her Split Personality is one, taking pleasure in applying the most painful treatments possible.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: An interesting case where the lack of shame comes from naivety (and Skewed Priorities). Because she is full of goodwill and assumes the best of everyone, it's very easy for men to trick her into doing sexual things for them, which she will happily do if she believes it will help them. She contrasts with some of the other Virtues (including her sister) who flash their candidates by accident. Her Split Personality is a more conventional example.
  • Split Personality: Normally a sweet and gentle girl who only wants to help others, but when she is holding a syringe, she suddenly changes into a sadist keen on "helping" people through the most painful treatment possible.
  • Super Gullible: Very much so. Being the Virtue of Charity she is willing to do favors for anyone who asks, and thus it’s very easy for humans to deceive her.

    Gabriel

Gabriel

Voiced by: Hiyori Nitta (Japanese), Maggie Flecknoe (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/69598982d158ccbf5e24fe9412d8bc3eb035410f.jpg

An Archangel and one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, representing Chastity. She is self-important and likes to boss others around.

  • Archangel Gabriel: As a sexy but rather young-looking woman.
  • Catchphrase: "This is wrong!"
  • Doublethink: “Lust is an evil feeling that must be purged from the soul!” “You must wear your uniform, even if it’s incredibly skimpy, because that is part of your job!” Yes, according to her official profile the reason why she is wearing such a Stripperific outfit is because she honestly believes both of those statements.
  • Dumb Blonde: Has blond hair, and isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. Although her problem isn’t lack of intelligence as much as it is lack of common sense, leading to some amazing Doublethink.
  • Going Commando: Her already small shorts have a noticable hole on the backside held together by a heart-shaped metal ring, revealing she goes without panties.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Chides her Messiah candidate for speaking loudly at night because it will bother the neighbors, after she announced her arrival by knocking very strongly at his door.
    • Represents chastity and berates other people for engaging in evil lustful behaviour, yet wears a tiny outfit while obviously lacking underwear.
  • Manchild: She's incredibly child-like, both in terms of her simple-minded view of things and her over-enthusiastic enjoyment of amusement parks. Her Candidate even wonders how old she actually is, based on her immature behavior.
  • Moral Guardians: She considers herself to be this for Heaven.
  • Petite Pride: In her own words, "being jealous of big breasts is pathetic!"
  • Sex Is Evil: She's introduced berating couples walking down the street for engaging in "unwholesome" behavior.
  • Sour Prude: As the Virtue of Chastity, Gabriel abhors perversion and is always cracking down on humans and angels whom she thinks have transgressed.
  • Token Mini-Moe: Along with her fellow Archangel Sandalphon, she looks like a very young teenage girl.
  • Underboobs: Her top shows off the bottom of her breasts, and flows open at the slightest breeze.
  • Vapor Wear: One quick look at her impossibly skimpy outfit is enough to see that she doesn't wear a bra. When looking at her from the backside, one realizes she doesn't wear panties, either.

    Sariel

Sariel

Voiced by: Sakura Nakamura (Japanese), Avery Smithhart (English)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nanatsu_no_bitoku_03.jpg

An angel and one of the Seven Heavenly Virtues, representing Kindness. The eldest of the Angels, she is said to be prone to over-indulging others.

  • Ass Kicks You: Uses her "marshmallow bottom" to smack her Candidate repeatedly in the face.
  • Boob-Based Gag: Much of her comedic moments exploit the massive size of her breasts.
  • Catchphrase: "Fabulous!"
  • Covert Pervert: She definitely enjoys people getting caught in her Marshmallow Hell a lot more than is proper for an Angel. In spite of this, only Gabriel seems to notice.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: In the sense that taking the Virtue of Kindness to some truly unhealthy lengths is the core of most of her problems. Being too kind to other means she ends up spoiling them rather than helping them grow; she cannot get angry even with people who deserve it; and she is perfectly willing to let humans touch her inappropriately if that makes them happy.
  • Gentle Giant: She's bigger than most mortals, and is incredibly kind.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She represents the virtue of Kindness, and has golden blonde hair.
  • Marshmallow Hell: She repeatedly smothers her Candidate with her massive breasts. (Not that he's complaining... At least until she starts beating him with them.)
  • Nice Girl: As expected of the Virtue of Kindness, Sariel is polite, gentle and generally well-meaning towards everyone.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Has no problems with people ogling and touching her if that makes them happy. It also makes her happy.
  • Sneeze of Doom: Crossed with Aww-choo. Her sneezes are rather polite and dainty but she has an "Evil Eye" which causes something bad to happen to the people around her when she sneezes. The first example the anime gives: she makes an entire building explode.
  • Statuesque Stunner: She stands at a lofty 2.2 meters. That's over 7 ft.!
  • Team Mom: The eldest of the Virtues, prone to spoiling others.
  • Underboobs: Her enormous breasts are barely covered by armor over the tops and nipples.

    Messiah Candidates
Voiced by: Atsushi Kousaka (Japanese), Scott Gibbs, Bryson Baugus, David Wald, Courtland Johnson, Mike Haimoto, Greg Cote, Blake Shepard (English)
The humans selected by one of the Virtues, as potential candidates for the role of Messiah.

  • Above the Influence: Impressively restrained and chaste, even when dealing with being flashed by a very clingy and Stripperific Angel. Often repeatedly. Averted by Metatron's and Sariel's candidates, who do fall into temptation. Downplayed by all the other candidates, albeit all of them being Distracted by the Sexy and Gabriel's candidate even being introduced watching porn, but they still don't do anything lewd to these angels.
  • Audience Surrogate: The generic stand-in for the audience, dragged along by the angel that has selected them.
  • The Chosen One: The Messiah is supposed to be this, though the Virtues are seemingly allowed to each test their own candidate in the final episode , Sandalphon insists that Uriel allow Sandalphon to test Uriel’s candidate and Uriel gives in and acquiesces to her fellow Virtue, while she stands as a witness to Sandalphon’s testing. Regrettably, he fails as he can not control his sexual feelings towards the Angels.
  • The Everyman: As ordinary as possible, and really only demonstrating any personality through their interactions with their Angel recruiter.
  • Eyes Out of Sight: Every single one has bangs covering their eyes, leaving them with a very generic appearance.
  • The Generic Guy: The Candidates are just barely given any personality or defining traits, and have only minimal facial features.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Metatron's and Sariel's candidates averted Above the Influence and tried to take advantage of having a sexy girl taking care of them, and both met a much worse fate than the more well restrained candidates at the end of their episodes.
  • Messianic Archetype: What they are supposed to be, but so far they seem to all be ordinary persons. They are well restrained and generally nice, but that's all. Michael is convinced of humanity’s worth, just as she was beginning to become misanthropic, when her candidate gives up his own seat in a crowded train for an elderly woman. Michael herself was already standing, along with Raphael, Gabriel, and Sariel.
  • Supreme Chef: Raphael's candidate gains her attention because of his talents as a baker.
  • Unfazed Everyman: They don't seem all that shocked that they are being followed around by Angels. Even if some of them are unaware they are real Angels, one would think their outfits and personalities would deserve a stronger reaction than "what a weird gal".
