Mach

Male Mach
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_femach16.png
Female Mach

The main character with a gender of your choosing. A foreigner trying to make it as a progamer in South Korea.

  • Ascended Fanboy: Started off as a Brood War fan.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Mach is on the verge of going home and admitting defeat at the start of the game.
  • Dream Reality Check: Mach pinches his forearm after Jett invites him to her team. Mach's not dreaming.
  • Fatal Flaw: Lack of motivation. He gets better.
  • Lightning Bruiser: In-game, Mach favors harass and "drop" focused play, using transports or fast units to strike where they'll hurt most.
  • Meaningful Name: Word of God is that Mach is short for 'Main Character'.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Constantly buys sugary energy drinks.
  • Otaku: Learned Korean by watching Starcraft and KPop. Stunt lampshades this in disgust.
  • The Power of Friendship: How Mach is able to overcome his problems.
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: Mostly played straight, but there are a couple of scenes that are different for a female character. For example, a female Mach will get troll messages while a male Mach will hear from an actual fan, albeit one that Mach doesn't like much. Also, while male Mach stops streaming because he simply doesn't get any viewers, female Mach stops because she's uncomfortable with the trolling and harassment that comes with being a female streamer, even though her stream does get more viewers.
  • The Scrappy: In-universe, Mach is the biggest problem to potential sponsors because he's completely unknown with no results. Fans might speculate about the drama surrounding Jett's and Accel's departures, but they simply think Mach is terrible.
  • Third Time's The Charm: You've failed to qualify twice at the time the game begins.
  • Token Minority: In-universe, Jett is interested in Mach specifically to appeal to foreign fans.
  • You Got Guts: Mach moves to Korea with no team, no prior success to his name, and only his (and a bit of his family's) money. Opinion is divided on whether that's brave, stupid, or both.

Accel

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_accelhipnormal.png

A terran player for team Crash.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: He decides that he's tired of putting up with his coach and quits to join you, causing a lot of eSports drama in the process.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Likes to joke about his past in a detached, sarcastic tone.
  • Fangirl: He had a relationship with one. They broke it off after she went abroad for university.
  • Glory Days: He's been in the progaming scene for 7 years and was a Brood War star. He's not as good at Starcraft 2, but he's still highly respected by his peers and likes to reminisce about the old days.
  • The Heart: Underneath his ridiculously chill demeanor, he has a very good understanding of what makes people tick. He shows this when he becomes coach.
  • Jack of All Stats: In-game, favors a well-rounded style that uses a mix of infantry and tanks.
  • Mellow Fellow: Very laid-back and doesn't show much besides mild amusement.
  • Nice Guy: Introduces you to other progamers and goes out of his way to compliment your play after he beats you. He's also the only one to show concern for Mach when you're forced into a showmatch to prove your worth.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Jett's red.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Jett.

Jett

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_jettcrossnormal9.png

A zerg player for team VIP.

  • Abhorrent Admirer: The fan with the Jett body pillow. Probably others as well.
  • The Ace: The best player on her team. Both of her teams
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: In-game, plays a reactive style that constantly watches her opponents and strikes mercilessly once she senses weakness.
  • Berserk Button: Asking her embarrassing questions or playing bad Starcraft are both going to set her off.
  • Big "NO!": Whenever she sees something particularly stupid.
  • Brutal Honesty: Doesn't hesitate to tell people when they suck.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: She has trouble asking Mach to join her team. Mach ends up deducing it himself and helps convince Jett to go through with it, much to her chagrin.
  • Death Glare: Gives one when a camera lingers on her too long.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Constantly pushes Mach and promises to work her team like dogs.
  • Fan Dumb: Some of her fans only like her for her trash talk and enjoy watching her lose. Jett insists that they're in the minority and aren't her real fans.
  • Fiery Redhead: Oh yes.
  • Grievous Bottley Harm: Throws a shot glass when asked about a particularly embarrassing incident involving a fan and a Jett body pillow.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Rude and abrasive, but she cares about her friends and wants the best for her team.
  • The Perfectionist: Leaves her old team because they're worse than bad - they're complacent.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Accel's blue.
  • Schedule Fanatic: Schedules practice and gets very annoyed when Mach is late.
  • Sexual Extortion: Not quite extortion, but someone offered to make her application for her pro-gaming license easier when she was 17.
  • Self Made Woman: Scornfully tells Mach that she never got any handouts.
  • Token Girl: Averted. She wants to be known for her play, not her gender, and she resents when others bring it up.
  • Tsundere: Apologizes reluctantly and is quick to go back to business.
  • We Do Not Know Each Other: Threatens Mach with this when Mach challenges Bolt.

Bolt

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_rivalbored6.png

A protoss Brood War player for team Shock T1.

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Arrogant Brood War player in this case.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The first character Mach meets in the game, but they're not introduced until later.
  • Faux Affably Evil: He's capable of being very polite on camera, as befitting a progamer.
  • Evil Wears Black: The Shock T1 uniform is black with white stripes.
  • Fish out of Water: A very strong Brood War player, but lacks experience in Starcraft 2.
  • Hidden Depths: It's implied that he genuinely likes the Brood War scene, and is unhappy that the new game and foreign money is causing it to fade away.
  • Hypocrite: He talks a bit about Jett falling from grace now that she's switched to Starcraft 2, but Bolt is the one who's skipping practice and trash talking a random foreigner.
  • Jerkass: Insults Mach constantly.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Mach really hasn't done anything to be worthy of being called a progamer.
  • Pet the Dog: He agrees to a practice game with Mach, even though that's not what's he came to the PC Bang for (and as Jett points out, challenging strangers is a bit rude)
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Has one with Jett.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Really doesn't take losing well.
  • With My Hands Tied: Claims he's barely practiced Starcraft 2 before his match. He's lying to put on a show, though.

Stunt

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_stunt_neutral24.png

A young protoss player, currently teamless.

  • Awesome McCoolname: He tries to come up with these for the new team. No one else is amused.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: His mother runs the PC Bang that he hangs out in and she chews him out when he complains too much. Mach uses this to his advantage to get Stunt to join the team.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: Even when his first attack fails, his response is to just try a different one.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Passes out from drinking soju. He has a fake ID.
  • Confusion Fu: Loves aggression and unorthodox tactics.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Has incredibly good unit control to make his rushes work, but isn't good at much else.
  • Delinquent: Possibly. It's not revealed why he's not going to school, despite being high school age.
  • Excuse Me While I Multitask: Constantly playing on his phone, even when in the middle of a Starcraft match.
  • The Gambling Addict: Accel gets him to meet you by (secretly) agreeing to a bet match. Later, he has another wager with Jett on the outcome of a team league match.
  • Groupie Brigade: Has a crew of middle-school fans that hang out with him at the PC bang.
  • Of Course I'm Not a Virgin: When the others label him as 'most likely to be a virgin', he denies it at first. He then complains that he's the youngest and has had the least time to score.
  • Minor Injury Overreaction: Loudly complains when he doesn't get his way in an argument, but it's mostly just for show.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Loves watching drama unfold.
  • Plucky Comic Relief
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He has no progaming experience, but refers to himself as the future protoss "bonjwa" - the best player in the game.
  • Shipper on Deck: Encourages Mach when he finds out Reva spent the night at his place.
  • Sore Loser: He doesn't take it well when Mach anticipates his cheese attempt.
  • Technician Versus Performer: The performer to Reva's technician.
  • Your Mom: Pulls one of these on Mach.

Reva

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_revaneutralnormal13.png

A random (switches between all 3 races) player who favors terran.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Reva competes only in online cups and has never been seen in person. This also leads some fans to believe that Reva is a map hacker.
  • Because I'm Good At It: Doesn't particularly enjoy Starcraft, but competes because it's what she's good at.
  • Closet Sublet: Not quite a closet, but it's close.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Not completely humorless, but when she tries to make a joke it's going to end up as this.
  • Fangirl: She's a huge fan of Accel.
  • Mighty Glacier: In-game, Reva favors mech play, which is slow and methodical.
  • Neet: Nominated as the most likely to be a NEET if not for Starcraft. Reva is a bit taken aback by this.
  • Otaku: Has no hobbies aside from watching anime and playing MMOs.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Pays rent using the meager earnings from winning online cups.
  • Robo Speak: "It's like you learned to communicate using a text to speech program."
  • Scrub: Believes that terran is the only race that earns all of its wins and dislikes aggressive rush-based play.
  • Sleep Cute: Falls asleep in your bed after a long night of practice.
  • The Spock: Logical and speaks very formally, both online and in person.
  • The Strategist: Not only is Reva good at coming up with strategies, she's also able to read those of top level teams.
  • Technician Versus Performer: The technician to Stunt's performer.
  • When She Smiles: Warms up around Mach.

Mr. Yeon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_yeonneutral.png
The owner of the local Go-Mart. Mach goes there for his nightly caffeine fix.
  • Cool Old Guy: Cordial and understanding of Mach's troubles, even though Mach's just a stranger who buys his energy drinks.
  • Incredibly Lame Pun: Go-Mart. He plays Go. Mach admits it's pretty clever.
  • Rousing Speech: Gives one to Mach encouraging him to pursue his dreams.
  • Wax On, Wax Off: Uses a game of Go to show the difference between playing to win and playing not to lose.

Kim Su-Hyeon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_kimneutral2normal13.png

The businessman representing Enoch Group, the team's potential sponsor.
