Micah (JP: Mais)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/micha_8.png
Voiced By: Ryōko Shiraishi (JP); Todd Haberkorn (EN, original), Casey Mongillo (EN, Special)

An odd young man who can transform into a Wooly by means of a Transformation Trinket. Like the other two games in the main series, he ends up in town with no memories and is given a farm to tend.

  • Amnesiac Lover: He becomes this to one of the bachelorettes and eventually his fiancée. In the end after he resuces her from the Dragon Cave Aquaticus, Native Dragon of Water, offers to restore his memories, but he'd need to leave his fiancée behind, so Micah chooses to stay with only the memories restored from the orbs and live his life in Sharance.
  • Badass Adorable: In Wooly form and even in human form.
  • Bad Liar: He's absolutely horrible at hiding his nervousness when lying or trying to hide something. Especially if someone points out the coincidence of having him and the golden wooly nearby. It gets him in trouble with Sakuya throughout her requests when she pieces together hints and clues that Micah is indeed the golden wooly that's been helping her.
  • Big Eater: He mentions in some conversations with Ondorus and Shara that he isn't a very picky eater. In fact Shara saying she's been fasting because she got a bit of weight is one of the few times Micah is actively upset— he tells her, in a very stern tone, never to skip a meal and exercise properly to lose weight.
  • Bounty Hunter: What few bits of his old life is learned from the orbs is that he went to Sharance on his own volition to hunt the five boss monsters causing trouble there and send all of them to the Forest of Beginnings.
  • Character Tics: Micah tends to sigh, gasp, groan or let out a small chuckle when faced with the more ridiculous antics of Sharance's populace.
  • The Chosen One: He was chosen by Aquaticus, the Native Dragon God of Water, as the one to mend the relationship between Sharance and the Univir of Sol Terrano Desert to make the flowers of Sharance Tree bloom which prevents the region from withering and dying. It's ultimately a downplayed example as Aquaticus wasn't completely sure if Micah would be able to do it, but decided anyway due to Micah's kind nature and being a Half-Human Hybrid.
  • Comic Trio: He gets sucked into one with Sakuya and Pia when you do their requests. He ends up playing the voice of reason role.
  • Deadpan Snarker: So far he's been the most snarky protagonist, way more than Raguna, Kyle, Lest/Frey, Aden/Sonja, and Ares/Alice. Being surrounded by the quirky townsfolk of Sharance does help in both "deadpan" and "snarker" department. Micah also starts the trend of having the protagonist being able to say some real sarcastic things with your input, and sometimes even without.
  • Determinator: At the end, walking through a TIDAL WAVE OF MAGICAL DRAGON GOD MAGIC AND LOGS for the sake of his fiancée.
  • Easy Amnesia: Micah loses his memories after being, quite literally, thrown into Sharance. The easy part comes with his memories being whisked away by Aquaticus. Micah does recover part of his memories from the orb pedestals he finds, however most of them, from his life previous to arriving in Sharance, remains sealed as he refuses Aquaticus offer to restore them and leave Sharance (and his fiancée).
  • Experienced Protagonist: The orbs that restore part of his memories allude to Micah being an experienced Bounty Hunter before he ended up in Sharance. But due to his amnesia he has to go From Zero to Hero.
  • The Gadfly: Sometimes. He can give sarcastic answers just to tell he's messing with the person in question. If he has high enough FP with some of the girls he can tease them, despite his penchant for obliviousness, asking if they like him or outright giving them a Sarcastic Confession (which gets most of them flustered).
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: When in his wooly form he foregoes all weapons, tools and rune abilities in favor of a bare-handed combat aptly named "Brawling" (Fist in Special) in his skill gains. He can still use magic as a wooly, however.
  • Guile Hero: He's surprisingly good at calming down people in a fret and proposing solutions to certain problems. Case in point: Micah is able to convince Wells to restore the Unity Festival with his words and being honest about his half-human, half-monster nature. It does take a lot more effort to convince Kuruna, however.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: If someone's in trouble Micah will usually step in to help in any way he can. And it's his altruism that made him to be chosen by Aquaticus in order to restore peace between humans and univir.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: Micah initially doesn't remember his name so he makes up one on the fly. The first orb reveals that his actual name is... the name you choose. A lucky coincidence as Micah himself notes.
  • Henshin Hero: Complete with transformation belt.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Half-human, half-monster— Wooly in his case.
  • Hidden Depths: Micah is surprisingly knowledgeable about vegetables and it's unknown if he already knew it or picked it up after becoming Sharance's farmer. Higher FP dialogues with Rusk will have him mentioning several facts about vegetables in an attempt to sway Rusk's bad opinion of veggies.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: He has no idea of how to use his Transformation Belt at the beginning and once he remembers he still has to train in his Wooly form in order to relearn his Brawling/Fist skills.
  • Improbable Weapon User: The king of them all. Farm tools, vegetables, backscratchers, cutlery, all are valid weapons.
  • Interspecies Romance: He's half Wooly, so any relationship will be this. Exaggerated since a 4 of his potential wives aren't human.
  • Killer Rabbit: Woolies are some of the weakest, least-aggressive monsters in the series. Then along comes Micah.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: His Wooly form can only use his fists and magic to fight.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Usually reacts with annoyance or surprise at puns. In Special he usually retorts with a pun of his own sometimes.
    Gaius: Squid. Sunsquid. Lampsquid... Ex-squid-zit...
    Micah: No.
  • Magic Knight: Micah can become proficient with both weapons as well magic.
  • Morphic Resonance: Upon transforming he becomes a wooly with golden wool befitting his blonde hair.
  • Never Bareheaded: His wooly form is always wearing a nice, cute, acorn shaped hat. Except one time he has to disguise himself as a regular wooly in order to find out why Raven is avoiding him all of sudden.
  • Nice Guy: As per tradition, Micah is a good natured guy, but with that said he's not unflappable and more often than not will be left speechless by the colorful residents of Sharance.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: If you befriend Sherman and Sofia, Evelyn notices that even Micah is a bit strange on his own to get along with them so well.
  • Oblivious to Love: Comes off as this, especially during certain conversations if the FP with the bacherolettes is high enough. Some dates can have the girls all but saying to his face they love him but Micah will remain blissfully unaware with more than one girl noting how "dense" he is note . Until he decides to reciprocate one of them with an Engagement Ring that is.
  • Only Sane Man: While all protagonists of Rune Factory have been this to an extent Micah stands out since he has to constantly deal with the populace of Sharance, which seems to be a town of Cloudcuckoolanders, and more than once he does notice how many strange people live in it.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Micah's wooly form can hit very hard and he can throw around monsters many times his size.
  • Renaissance Man: Farming, cooking, blacksmithing, crafting, pharmacy and social interactions are some of the things Micah masters over his time in Sharance.
  • Screaming Warrior: Micah will showcase how strong his vocal cords are when using Magic and Rune Abilities.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Whatever quirks the marriage candidates have Micah has the option to tell them he likes them the way they are. Or act like a jerk and make a joke or be a little too honest for his good.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: At first Micah is taken aback by the quirkier townsfolk (Marian, Sofia, Pia) but he quickly gets used to them. Well, mostly.
  • Unwitting Pawn: A benevolent example. Aquaticus eventually reveals he used Micah, erasing his memories, in a gamble to mend the relationship between the humans and univirs and make he Sharance Tree flowers bloom, thus preventing the entire region from withering and dying. Aquaticus wasn't even sure if this would work but it was his best bet due to Micah's half-human, half-monster nature and Micah's kindness.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Via the aforementioned transformation belt, Micah is capable of assuming the form of a Golden Wooly.
  • Warrior Therapist: Micah often lends his ear and shoulder to people in trouble and is more than willing to listen to their issues and insecurities all while offering advice to them.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: The one thing that consistently gets Micah nervous is being shaved in his wooly form. Unfortunately for him being an unseen, possibly quite rare, Golden Wooly makes certain people, like Sakuya for example, to really want a piece of golden fleece.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Micah talks like this during Monica's "Rose Prince" request, but only in Special.

Bachelorettes

    Shara

Shara (JP: Sia)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shara.png
Voiced By: Yukari Fukui (JP); Caitlin Glass (EN, original), Anairis Quiñones (EN, Special)

"A kind and generous girl who raises flowers with love and care."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A gentle girl who loves flowers and is kind to everyone she meets. She has put herself in charge of caring for the flower field in Privera Forest."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Wells, Monica

The main heroine, a girl who tends the flower shop with her grandfather Wells and sister Monica. She initially finds Micah injured outside in his wooly form and takes care of him overnight.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Her and Monica's parents are never mentioned.
  • Boring, but Practical: When fighting (at moderately higher levels) Shara sticks to combo that consists of two normal attacks and a charged attack finisher that does double damage. It's far from flashy, but since waterpots use INT, which grows very fast for Shara, she will do a lot of damage if nothing's there to interrupt her.
  • Caring Gardener: Shara works in Fantastic Flowers, Wells' flower shop, and took to herself the job of taking care of the flower bed of Privera Forest.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Not present before the player marries her, but after the fact, her personality does a complete 180, with all of her post-marriage lines containing thinly-veiled hints of jealousy and Shara herself developing much more of an attitude, losing most, if not all, of the sweetness she had pre-marriage.
    • This is largely averted in Special with most of her snippy dialogue being re-translated.
  • Cool Big Sis: Acts as this for Monica when she's not scolding her for biting Micah.
  • Developers' Desired Date: She's the canon heroine. To the point that regardless of which girl the player has Micah marry, the ending cinematic will always show Shara being the one he runs to embrace, which can be off-putting to say the least.
  • Fiery Redhead: Inverted. She's one of the nicest, calmest residents of Sharance.
  • First Girl Wins: If you marry her. Shara is the first girl that meets Micah while, unbeknownst to her, he was locked in his wooly form.
  • Flowers of Femininity: She works in a flower shop and wears some flower accessories on her outfit.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Subverted. Monica thinks Shara's the foolish sibling, when she's actually playing along to make her feel mature.
  • Friend to All Living Things: She doesn't have the same bias against monsters like her grandfather does. Some of her requests has her getting along with some docile monsters with no problem.
  • Hidden Depths: Shara can be surprisingly artful when dealing with a more hardheaded person like her grandfather. She tells Monica to ask him for a hand-knit hat after he brushed off the idea of knitting fully knowing Wells wouldn't have the heart to say no. Even Micah is surprised by this.
  • I Call It "Vera": Her starter weapon is a Tin Waterpot that she calls "Mr. Sprinkles".
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her weapon of choice is a watering can, and she calls it "Mr. Sprinkles". When adventuring she mostly stands back, but if push comes to shove she'll use the waterpot to attack enemies with water-element attacks. Waterpots, especially higher tiered ones, also have the benefit of boosting M.ATK quite a bit.
  • Innocent Blue Eyes: As pictured. Shara is one of the kinder, and less quirky, people living in Sharance and she's the one who rescues and heals a wounded Micah (in his Wooly form) despite her grandfather's protests.
  • Innocent Flower Girl: She wears flowers as part of her daily attire and she loves to receive them as gifts.
  • Location Theme Naming: In-universe, Shara is named after the tree and town. Also applies to her Japanese name as the town and tree are called "Sialens".
  • Love Confession: Shara is one of the few bachelorettes that confesses her love for Micah after a certain request is finished. No implications, no words left open to interpretation, she says "I love you", though this leaves her very sheepish.
  • Meaningful Gift: Flowers are an obvious choice, but high grade waterpots (Rainbow, Joy) and difficult to raise flowers, ones available after Vale River is cleared, are among Shara's favorites.
  • The Medic: Shara is unique in that she's the only villager with access to both Cure and Medi spells. If Micah takes her out adventuring, she mostly stands back and heals him. Compared to other people with healing magic Shara is the one has the shortest cooldown between each cast.
  • Promotion to Parent: Shara acts very motherly towards Monica making sure she behaves and not letting Wells spoil her too much. Some of her dialogue has her scolding Monica a bit not unlike a parent would do.
  • Raised by Grandparents: She and Monica live with their grandfather.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: She's very friendly, patient and receptive even towards strangers. The complete opposite of her little sister, Monica.
  • Signature Headgear: Wears a distinct one that sort of looks like a bridal veil.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Calm, polite and friendly, but perfectly capable of adventuring with you. She can defeat monsters with her watering pot and her attacks can be surprisingly damaging at higher levels.
  • Sleepwalking: According to Monica, Shara will sometimes sleepwalk into her bed.
  • The Social Expert: She's usually the one who will inform you of someone's birthday if the person in question hasn't told you yet and Shara seems to be friends with almost everyone in town having knowledge of what they like as well.
  • Weight Woe: Shara expresses some concern about gaining weight at times. In one she will actually push Micah's Berserk Button by saying she's been fasting and skipping meals which has Micah sternly tell her not to do that. Another time has her mentioning eating something sweet and a good night of sleep is the perfect way to get rid of tiredness... but overdoing it will get you in trouble with the balance.
  • White Magician Girl: She's very feminine, plays a healer role when taken into battle, and takes in any wounded monster despite her grandfather's protests.

    Raven

Raven (JP: Toona)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/raven_80.png
Voiced By: Emiri Katou (JP); Cindy Robinson (EN)

"Likes to keep to herself, and doesn't interact much with other people. Has a warm side to her."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A young lady who keeps to herself. Despite this, she's considerate of those around her and occasionally you may even catch a glimpse of her inner fire."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: None.

Gaius's apprentice. Mostly silent and sour-faced, although she's hiding a secret. She's the first girl Micah meets while he's conscious.
  • Aimlessly Seeking Happiness: She wants to be happy, but has no idea of what happiness means for her.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: She never knew her parents. Considering she's a phoenix, she may never have had any.
  • Badass Longcoat: She is almost never seen without her signature white longcoat over her midriff-barring top.
  • Broken Bird: No Pun Intended. From the get go it's obvious she's had some rough times in her life. Raven herself mentions she's "cursed" and people around her tend to disappear, so she keeps everyone at arm's length.
  • Combat Medic: She's aggressive in combat and can cast Cure All if her or your health gets too low, though not on the same frequency as Shara.
  • The Comically Serious: Some of Raven's conversations and dates has her telling how aware she is of Sharance's quirky townsfolk, all without ever breaking her solemn demeanor.
  • Continuity Nod: In her cameo in Rune Factory 4, she mentions gifts for Karina, Sofia, and Evelyn, refers to Gaius as her father who isn't a father and makes really good equipment that he forgets to sell, and blushes while saying that Woolies are her favorite monster. She also mentions that Marian, Collette and Rusk have inherited their family businesses as well.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's actually a humanoid Phoenix who can shapeshift into a totally human form.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Until Micah befriends her he'll be given a very cold treatment with many silent and awkward moments between both. Once he does get to know her Raven reveals a much more tender and caring (even clingy) side of her.
  • Does Not Know How to Say "Thanks": Raven has a hard time being openly thankful due to her aloof nature.
  • First Girl Wins: If she is picked as the bride, as Raven is the first girl Micah gets acquainted with when he wakes up in Sharance.
  • Freakiness Shame: Micah pretty much tells her "But your wings are beautiful" after she reveals her phoenix form.
  • Foil: To Micah and Pia.
    • Pia is bubbly and cheerful on the outside, but has some inner pains she doesn't understand and never makes an attempt to hide her mermaid form, Raven is cold on the outside, but hides a very warm side, she's also very afraid of anyone discovering her phoenix form.
    • Micah is very outspoken and friendly to everyone, but has to hide his monster form as he knows the bias some people have against monsters, including the town mayor, Wells. Raven on the other hand hides her form due to a mixture of fear of being abandoned for it and that said form is "cursed" to make people around her disappear, rather than just fear of the prejudice against monsters.
  • Glass Cannon: Raven has a pretty aggressive AI and both her STR and INT are nothing to sneeze about, but her VIT growth is abysmal, so you have to keep Cure Alls and healing food handy, and give her a good protective accessory, because she might get knocked out as fast as she can beat monsters. Doubly so in her Phoenix form.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Being half-human and half-monster, a Phoenix, is a great source of internal conflict/shame for her and is one of the major reasons Raven avoids befriending strangers.
  • Hates Being Alone: Raven feels very lonely, but is deeply afraid of her "curse" which makes people close to her disappear. Because of that she tries her best to keep everyone from getting too close to her.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: Although Gaius is the owner of the weapon shop and a skilled blacksmith, he has little to no economic sense and admits that if it wasn't for Raven running the shop, it would've tanked a long while ago.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: Denoting her cold and aloof personality towards strangers.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Even after they're married, she'll constantly ask Micah for reassurance that he loves her.
  • Magic Knight: Raven is good with one-handed swords and can use both fire and healing magic in combat.
  • Meaningful Name: The localization gives her one. Her Japanese name is a little subtle; Toona is a genus of mahogany that has red wood.
  • Meaningful Gift: She loves pendants as it was the first thing Gaius taught her to make. Any pendant that's not the basic Silver Pendant are her favorite gifts. Raven also likes crystals of any type since they're used to craft pendants.
  • Not So Above It All: She dislikes smiling freely to the point of making some zany schemes not unlike Sakuya's and several other excuses just so she doesn't have to smile to the costumers. Some festivals make her less serious side come out too, especially when she's talking with Karina and Sofia and she partakes in some quick pranks like pelting Sofia with beans.
  • Not So Stoic: Her less serious side comes out whenever the theme of ghosts pop up with Raven sometimes brushing off the subject in an almost childish way. On a much more serious note her late events reveal how deeply afraid she is of her own "curse", but at the same time how she doesn't want anyone else to be hurt because of her.
  • The Phoenix: A shapeshifting variant who has assumed a human form.
  • Playing with Fire: Capable of using fire magic when fighting alongside you. Her Phoenix form spams it like there's no tomorrow.
  • Odd Friendship: With Karina and Sofia. With Karina both seem to appreciate the brevity of their talks and understand each other while Micah is left wondering what they're on about. With Sofia, Raven seems to appreciate her advice especially when it comes to shopkeeping.
  • Secret Diary: To make it not so secret: Upstairs, bookshelf in the lower right bedroom. A Shout-Out to the diaries in older games, as the player increases her Relationship Values she writes more about Micah.
  • The Stoic: Raven is very serious and keeps to herself avoiding small talk as much as possible.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She seems icy and aloof, but she's got a very warm and loving heart, and she's a lot more tender than she lets others see.
  • Terse Talker: Unlike Karina who's just plain lazy and doesn't bother finishing most her sentences, Raven simply likes being straight to the point, but sometimes so much that she leaves Micah guessing what's going through her mind.
  • Town Girls: She's the Butch to Karina's Neither and Sofia's Femme, due to her aloof personality and her job of going out to collect materials for forging.
  • Tsundere: Type A, but less harsh than most examples out there as Raven is more cold and distant than angry or aggressive. Raven has difficulty accepting people getting close to her, but every now and then shows how much she cares about her friends. If Micah gets close to her she'll sometimes call him "idiot" (or "dummy" in Special) if he says something that makes her happy, but also flustered.
  • Video Game Cruelty Punishment: If Micah builds up a relationship with her then marries someone else, she'll write a heart wrenching entry in her diary about how she thought Micah loved her.
  • Visible Silence: And it's all Micah gets early on. Her silent treatment is even more noticeable since she's around the quirky and lively townsfolk of Sharance.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: She has a monster form, a phoenix, which she can turn into at will, but hides it in shame fearing she'd be hated and ostracized for it and that the same form has a curse that makes people close to her disappear. Once a late request of her is completed she won't hide it anymore and will even use to fight alongside Micah. In this form Raven is even more aggressive in combat and will favor her fire spells.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's scared of ghost and spooky things. Giving anything related to them (Ghost Hood, Skulls) is a very good way to tank your relationship with her.

    Karina

Karina (JP: Karin)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/karina.png
Voiced By: Shizuka Itō (JP), Caitlyn Elizabeth (EN, Special)

"Unbelievably lazy girl who works at the general store. She's usually napping on the job."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A clerk at the general store who can't stand her job... and pretty much anything else that isn't sleeping. (Hey, who asked you?)"
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Hazel

Hazel's daughter. A slacker who wants to leave the little town she's in and enter high society. She can be found hanging with Sofia and Raven, or at 5 PM collecting from your shipping box.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Continuing the trend of single-parent children, it's never mentioned where her dad is.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Karina is lazy, but she is not a pushover. Choose the wrong options during certain dialogues or dates with her and you can be certain she won't be too lazy to call you out on it.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: One request with Karina shows she can be very responsible and levelheaded on the rare case where she doesn't let her laziness get the better of her. Karina can use magic spells, which surprises Micah, given it would take a lot of effort to learn them. Karina's reason is that learning spells is less tiring than carrying and swinging weapons.
  • Character Development: While she never outgrows her lazy side she learns to appreciate Sharance more and stops thinking running to the big city is the solution to her problems. She also learns to appreciate Hazel a bit more as well.
  • Character Tics: Rare will be a conversation where Karina doesn't yawn or sigh.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Underneath all that laziness there's a very snarky girl. Being perpetually sleepy also helps a lot in the "deadpan" part.
  • Dreary Half-Lidded Eyes: Has these expressing her perpetual laziness.
  • Forgetful Jones: She rarely bothers remembering festivals until she's at them because it's just too much trouble.
  • Freudian Excuse: She became apathetic about work because her mother was always working when she was a kid, which caused her to avoid the store because she didn't want to bother Hazel. Eventually she started to keep most problems to herself rarely asking for Hazel's aid.
  • The Gadfly: She likes to tease her friends, mostly Sofia whenever she's in the General Store asking what Sofia thinks of Micah. Depending on Sofia's response she gets bored (if both are indifferent towards him), has her fun with Sofia's flustered reaction (if Sofia has feelings for Micah, but she doesn't) or worried (if she also has feelings for Micah). This is lightly deconstructed as in one of her conversations with Dialogue Tree if Micah says what she likes is "teasing people" Karina won't be very flattered with herself if that's how she makes Micah remember her.
  • Hidden Depths: Karina has a surprisingly sharp mind and can be very stubborn when something picks her interest (and doesn't immediately die of laziness/boredom). On the quest where Micah accompanies her on a day's deliveries, she's shown to actually be a savvy businesswoman when the pressure is on.
  • Inner Monologue: Most of times half of her dialogue is thought instead of spoken, she likes to make her point across with as few words as possible. Karina actually gets surprised a few times when she thinks someone read her mind when they actually are just so used to her they can fill in the blanks naturally. It gets a little more confusing when sometimes it's not her thoughts, but Karina just saying stuff under her breath.
  • Lazy Bum: Zig-zagged. Karina is lazy to the point of not even talking entire sentences, but she's also in charge of shipping whatever items you put in the Item Shipment Box and will never miss it one day. With that said if she's in charge of the General Store she will be happy if you reset the item count or leave without buying anything.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Karina is lazy compared to her workaholic mother.
  • Magic Staff: She fights with this type of weapon in dungeons, because they allow her to stand far away and not put as much effort into fighting.
  • Meaningful Gift: She likes gems of all sorts except Diamonds which reminds her of her mother and the store which she works at (Diamond Store).
  • Not a Morning Person: Side effect of her also being The Slacker.
  • Professional Slacker: After finishing some of Hazel's requests she notes how much effort Karina puts in skipping work.
  • The Slacker: To the point where every word out of her mouth is accompanied by either a yawn or a sarcastic, tired remark. If Micah marries her, she will rarely even make a lunch for him—and if she does, expect something extremely unspectacular.
  • Secret Diary: Micah finds an old one that goes "Dear Diary, I realized today it's too much trouble to keep writing in you, so I won't."
  • Small Town Boredom: She's sick of Sharance and dreams of going to the city (that and to get away from Hazel's constant nagging). At one point she actually starts working in order to get enough money to go.
  • Terse Talker: She's so lazy most of times she doesn't even bother finishing her sentences, though we get to see her Inner Monologue, thankfully.
  • Town Girls: She's the Neither to Raven's Butch and Sofia's Femme.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Hazel wistfully remarks that Karina used to be the opposite she is today, a very active and playful kid.
  • Weight Woe: At the beach, she claims she ate too much last winter and laments that "swimsuits can't hide reality". (For the record, this is Karina in her swimsuit.)

    Sakuya

Sakuya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sakuya_04.png
Voiced By: Ryōko Shintani (JP), Amber Lee Connors (EN, Special)

"An inn attendant who loves to travel. Sells items she finds in dungeons. Not a fan of monsters."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"The innkeeper's travel-loving daughter, Sakuya delivers the punchlines for Pia's setups. She also runs a shop where she sells items dropped by monsters."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Shino

Shino's daughter. She runs the curio store in the inn and has a largely childlike personality, but is dead serious when it comes to money. Also a horrible cook.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Continuing the trend of single-parent children, it's never mentioned where her dad is.
  • Asian Store-Owner: Sakuya comes from a (as of yet) unnamed eastern country, the same place Mei and Yue hails from, which has clear Asian themes and she owns a shop that sells "unconventional items" (i.e: shipped monster items).
  • Battle Cry: "It's over!" when using her Big Fire spell, but only in Special.
  • BFS: When you take her into dungeons, she fights with long sword weapons and uses Rune Skills appropriate to her weapon to deal with enemies. Some of the Longsword looks even like eastern longswords, nodachis, matching Sakuya's theme.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: With Pia, and Micah can join in during one of their requests.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Sakuya usually (tries to) keep Pia's strange line of thought straight. This is more noticeable in her requests and town events where both stick together.
  • Collector of the Strange: And seller of the strange too. Her shop sells any monster drops you've shipped, including boss ones. Speaking of which, boss only items are her loved gifts.
    • Some of her dialogue has her finding a "spiky thing" which he claims to be a pillow and offers it to Micah (who understandably nopes away). Another one has her showing a "super rare bug" which makes Micah nope out of it even faster.
  • Comic Trio: Forms one with Micah and Pia. She's the idiot who comes up with the bad plans.
  • The Determinator: She doesn't like dealing with monsters (like Anette), but that doesn't stop her from going into dungeons to collect materials for her shop.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She's not very fond of eggs, not because of their taste, but mostly because they're a source of frustration to her since all of her cooking attempts usually ends with said eggs exploding.
  • Foil: To Pia, her adopted sister. Pia has a very active imagination, gets easily distracted, and doesn't care at all about how much profit the baths are making. Sakuya is (mostly) serious and dedicated to her job focusing more on profits. This also extends to how they fight when following Micah: both uses Longswords and wield magic, but Sakuya is better with weapons while having a modest to decent fire magic while Pia is the opposite being better with her Water magic, but having low damage with weapons.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: You can spend literally millions of G in her shop and she'll still occasionally complain about being in the red.
  • Genki Girl: A little less pronounced than most examples, but Sakuya is still very headstrong and passionate about her job and life in general.
  • Go-Getter Girl: Sakuya is very focused on two things: her job as merchant and becoming an innkeeper like her mother.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Pia. They've been together since both were little and a random conversation with Sakuya has her mentioning a time when they were younger. Sakuya was sad and after meeting Pia she was pretty much uplifted by Pia's innocent smile.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • She's very observant and throughout her requests she slowly figures out on her own that Micah is the golden wooly that's been helping her. It all comes to a head when she accidentally sees Micah shearing himself, Sakuya mentions deep down she already knew of the connection between the two, but didn't want to admit as she felt Micah was fooling her.
    • Give her something she likes and she'll say something about strapping a price tag on it (or putting in her shop display in Special)... Just kidding. And Sakuya does make sure to let you know it was a joke. She may like rare things, but she values her family and friends way more than money.
  • Hime Cut: Sports one.
  • Informed Flaw: Her fear of monsters does nothing to diminish her combat capabilities if she's adventuring with you.
  • Intrepid Merchant: Often mentions how she likes to travel to find new odd stuff for her shop.
  • Lethal Chef: Sakuya cannot cook to save her life and everything she tries to cook tends to explode. In one quest she heats the water for a boiled egg... with a Big Fire spell. Said tendency does not go unnoticed by her mother who wonders why every time Sakuya tries to cook it ends up poorly. Later in the story she gets attacked by a monster who steals a meal she was intending to share with Micah... who sheepishly wonders why it would steal that kind of food.
  • Magic Knight: Downplayed. Sakuya fights well having Rune Abilities with Longswords and she can use Big Fire spell to hit enemies from afar, but she's more efficient when fighting up close. But if you give her a Magic Charm, things change and she will hit about as hard with her magic as she would with her sword attacks.
  • Meaningful Gift: Most of monster items are good options to gift Sakuya since she likes "odd" things that are difficult to come by and she dislikes dealing with monsters. Boss exclusive items are among her loved gifts.
  • Money Fetish: She's by far the character that has the most focus on getting money and many festivals has her going into full business woman mode. Sakuya is also a bit miffed that Shara didn't make Micah go to the Miyako Inn saying she lost a potential customer.
  • Playing with Fire: She uses the Big Fire spell when partying with you and it's also her favored method of cooking.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Although she looks as small as Collette she wields Longswords to fight and is mostly a physical combatant and she can use fire magic too.
  • Plucky Girl: She faces difficulties in both her jobs as innkeeper and merchant, but they rarely slow her down for long.
  • Pungeon Master: Sakuya tends to come up with puns here and there, mostly during festivals.
  • Spider-Sense: Claims to have one for monsters saying Shino trained her so she'd be safe from them.
  • Spin Attack: Can use one in the form of the ultimate Longsword attack against enemies if she gets surrounded.
  • Straight Man: Sakuya is usually this to the airheaded Pia, but she also has her wacky moments.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Sashimi mostly. However since Pia is almost always around she has to eat it hidden from her.
  • Walking the Earth: She used to travel a lot with her mother going from inn to inn until they settled down in Sharance for good.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She really doesn't like having to deal with monsters mentioning having to run away from them at times.
  • Wingding Eyes: Give her something valuable and a "G" symbol will appear in her eye.

    Pia

Pia (JP: Persia)

Voiced By: Aya Endo (JP), Jackie Lastra (EN, Special)

"The bathhouse assistant. Ditzy girl with a bit of a fishy secret..."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A mermaid who runs the baths, she also sets up punchlines for Sakuya's jokes. Her legs turn into fins when she gets wet. Don't even think about eating fish in front of her."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: None

A happy-go-lucky mermaid who runs the baths in the inn. She has an odd fascination with squid and cares deeply for Sakuya and Shino.
  • Berserk Button: Don't say anything about eating fish near her. Fishes are friends, not food. Squids, on the other hand, are free game.
Pia: So you see, squids are evil. I will eat them. I will eat them ALL.
  • BFS: She prefers using Longswords when in your party. Her starting weapon is a Dekash (a giant tuna) which functionally works as a Longsword.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: With Sakuya, and Micah can join in with them during one of their requests.
  • Blunt Metaphors Trauma: Anytime Pia tries to use metaphors (or sarcasm) she either trails off, loses her train of thought, or forgets what she was trying to say in first place. Combine that with Sofia's inverted speech pattern and Pia tells one time Sofia was in the bath and said the water was lukewarmnote  and Pia turned up the heat much to Sofia's dismay.
  • Brutal Honesty: Pia has a distinct lack of filter and usually just blurts out what's on her mind. Like how Sakuya was supposed to be on a diet during the Eating Festival. Or how much she likes you.
  • Character Tics: She's often humming or singing when you walk or talk to her. She does the same if you wait long enough when she's working in the bath house shop.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Her conversations mostly revolve around two things: bathing and squid.
    • If you think she's a loony normally, wait until she realizes her feelings for Micah. Sometimes she gets so confused with her own feelings she starts hissing. In Special her head apparently short-circuits.
  • Comic Trio: With Sakuya and Micah. She's the idiot who follows Sakuya's lead, although she sometimes misinterprets Sakuya's instructions.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Has pink eyes to match her pink hair. Although her eyes are of a darker shade of pink.
  • Cute Monster Girl: She's a mermaid, after all, even though she spends most of the time in a human form.
  • The Ditz: Good luck keeping up with her very creative mind. Even Micah struggles to understand some of the things she talks about.
  • Does Not Like Spam: "Fishes are friends, not food." So she abhors any fish recipe with a passion.
  • Does Not Understand Sarcasm: Not at all, something that Micah and Sakuya notes. Sakuya can mention she'll let Blaise take care of fishes she catches and it'll just fly over her head.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: One hint that she actually isn't The Pollyanna; the only other person who has this is Raven. She might not even realize that she's sad in anyway, when she says her chest "prickles" when seeing a family in the bathhouse.
  • Easy Amnesia: Mentions in one dialogue she can't remember life in the ocean except for the occasional dream, which she wakes up crying from.
  • Foil: To Raven. Personality-wise Raven is very quiet, down-to-earth and avoids new people as much as possible, while Pia is very friendly even if quite kooky. Both can transform, and while Raven has fire-based attacks Pia has water attacks in her mermaid form. Unlike Raven, Pia's mermaid form is known by everyone and she never tries to hide it.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Downplayed. She's this for fishes (though not so much towards Squids). Give her a fish and she'll think you're helping her rescue them from being cooked.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: In mermaid form she cannot use weapons and will only cast water magic to fight.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: She often says that having her tail out makes it difficult for her to move around, but when she's in mermaid form she still moves the same speed as her human form.
  • Genki Girl: Pia is a peppy girl with a very active imagination.
  • Happily Adopted: Not formally, since she's listed as having no family, but Sakuya and Shino treat her as part of theirs. Pia's perfectly happy with the arrangement and whenever she isn't going on weird tangents about bathing or squids she'll be talking about how happy she is living with Shino and Sakuya.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Sakuya who are very close to each other. Pia mentions in a date that she wasn't planning on staying with Sakuya and Shino, but she'd end up going back to their place and she'd always be warmly welcomed there.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite her ditzy habits, she's quite intelligent and can easily tell Micah exactly what rainbows are made of, and from a high-level perspective no less. In one of her high FP conversations when she muses if she should go back to the sea if Micah offers to go with her she'll outright say it's a silly idea since she'd live underwater.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: She often tell a story about the fact that she can't talk with the fishes makes the sea very lonely. Her attraction to Sakuya and Shino is because they want to accept her.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her weapon of choice is the Dekash - a weaponized tuna, which counts as a long sword.
  • Kindhearted Simpleton: Pia never thinks too hard about anything and is almost always in a chirpy mood. Sakuya even mentions her smile is infectious.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She has fins on her head and where her ears should be, as well as on her wrists.
  • Making a Splash: She uses water spells in battle once in a while. If she's in her mermaid form, she'll only use them.
  • Meaningful Gift: Oddly enough, raw fish. Since Pia considers fish her friends if you give one to her she'll think you're helping her rescue them.
  • Mermaid Problem: Gotten around by having her mermaid tail only come out when she's drenched. (Eg. rain)
  • Nice Girl: The simplest way to describe Pia. She never has anything bad to say about anyone, doesn't bother overthinking things and almost always has a smile on her face.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: Pia's people change into a human form when they dry off and only regain their tail when soaking wet. Pia is also friends with fish, except for squid, whom she hates and so wants to devour whenever she finds them — it's unclear if this is a racial thing or just Pia being Pia.
  • Pungeon Master: Like Sakuya, but her lack of sarcasm usually ends up with her making either accidental or ones that don't make a lot of sense to anyone but Pia herself.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: One of the sweetest characters of the game even if she's quite airheaded.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Squid recipes (Fried, Sashimi) are among her loved gifts. But don't you dare give any other type of sashimi to her, Pia wants to rescue all the fish. Except for squids, which are evil. Fruits are also a good gift for her since she likes eating them raw (or drink juices).
  • Water-Triggered Change: Pia is a mermaid who can take on a human form when dry, but her legs turn into a mermaid's tail when she gets wet. As a gameplay mechanic, she takes on her mermaid form when it's raining outside.

    Collette

Collette (JP: Chocolat)

Voiced By: Eri Kitamura (JP), Kelly Baskin (EN, Special)

"Works at the diner. She'll out-eat anyone in town... unless she's distracted by food."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"The diner's most popular (and only) waitress. Though short in stature, she boasts an appetite that is second-to-none."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Blaise, Rusk

Blaise's daughter, who works as a waitress in her father's restaurant. She's very childlike and innocent, which is often taken advantage of by her friend Marian.
  • Afraid of Doctors: Well, more that she's afraid of Marian and her crazy experiments. Despite this both are close friends.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Continuing the trend of single-parent children, it's never mentioned where her mom is.
  • Bad Liar: A terrible, terrible liar. One of her early requests is "challenging" Micah to a cooking contest... Only that she gets to eat first and declares Micah the winner after eating his dish. She totally didn't want just to eat something!
  • Beneath the Mask: Once her FP is high enough she asks if Micah finds her huge appetite off-putting. She's very happy if he says that just how she is and disheartened if he says it's "abhorrent".
  • Berserk Button: She's never happy when the topic of her size is brought up. Some of her requests is about her trying to find a way to grow more and she express nervousness when she realizes Monica might outgrow her. Another one is messing with her food, one conversation has her getting really mad at Rusk for him eating away her secret stash of sweets.
  • Big Eater: Rivals Sherman in appetite and has several trophies in her room to prove she's not all talk, she'll be always considered one of the favorites to win the Eating Festival too. No matter how much she eats, though, she can't seem to grow any taller, a fact she complains about.
  • Butt-Monkey: She's Marian's personal guinea pig. One of Marian's events has her trading medicines saying the one she gave Collette would make her explode. Micah swaps it just in time... but it was a mistaken swap and Marian ends up giving Collette something that did explode, much to her chagrin. Judging by how non-chalant Collette is Micah is astonished to realize it must be a regular occurrence.
  • Call-Back: She purposefully repeats one her early lines (about her "metabolism") once you're good friends with her just to note how much you've got to know each other ever since.
  • Character Catchphrase: Often greets you with a cheerful "Heya!"
  • Combat Medic: She's a powerful melee fighter and can heal you with her Medicinal Cuisine.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: One of her Artificial Atmospheric Actions is her falling over. Add that to her Mad Doctor of a friend that Marian is and Hilarity Ensues.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She hates milk. About the one and only foodstuff that she won't tolerate.
  • Family Theme Naming: Her name in Japan fits into the family's theme of being named after foods connected to desserts.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Mentions always having something to snack on and it isn't just a random line, when she's in your party she will often chuck food at you if your health gets low. but beware that sometimes she may throw food that can end up causing status effects...
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Her kindness and cheerfulness is only matched by her endless appetite.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her starting weapon is a giant lollipop, which counts as an axe-type weapon. It's also surprisingly powerful despite its silly look.
  • Informed Flaw: Marian claims multiple times that she's a total idiot, but outside of letting her stomach get the better of her when it comes to Marian, she's quite knowledgeable and skilled.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Collette cannot use magic, but makes up in raw strength and her ability to assist you by throwing food if your HP/RP gets too low.
  • Medicinal Cuisine: Her specialty. Collette will throw foodstuff to heal Micah if he gets too hurt. However beware that some of the food thrown can cause Status Effects.
  • Older Than They Look: She's the shortest and flattest of the bachelorettes because of her dislike of milk. After befriending Collette she mentions she's actually older than Marian and Rusk. In Special she shocks Micah by saying she's actually older than him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Whenever Collette loses her appetite it's sure sign there's something worrying her.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Despite her looks she uses axe weapons and is one of the heavy hitters in Sharance.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: In terms of food preferences she's not really picky compared to her brother, Rusk, something that Blaise notes.
  • Stockholm Syndrome: She bemoans to Micah that she's just learned to go along with Marian's abuse, and warns him that he'll start, too.
  • Supreme Chef: Not on the same level of Blaise, but she's still a very handy cook. in Rune Factory 4 Raven mentions she inherited Blaise's restaurant as the head chef.
  • Through His Stomach: She may offer to cook something special for Micah once her FP is high enough, but Micah will be bissfully ignorant of the implications which will annoy Collette.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Most cooked dishes are good gifts for her, but Collette has a particular taste for Rice recipes; Curry Rice, Omelet Rice and Rice Porridge are her favorites. Curry recipes are among her favorite foodstuff too.

    Carmen

Carmen (JP: Ion)

Voiced By: Haruka Tomatsu (JP); Caitlin Glass (EN, original), Laura Stahl (EN, Special)

"Loves fishing and her brother. Helps out at the family fishing resort. Full of energy and easily excited."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A devoted angler who helps out around her brother's fishing resort. She's got energy to spare, so be on the lookout for stray punches."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Carlos

A tomboy who loves fishing as much as her brother. She and Carlos live by the lake and run a fishing resort. She also deems herself Micah's fishing teacher.
  • All Amazons Want Hercules: Carmen compares most men to her brother and considering Carlos is pretty much built like a brick house, one has to be tough to get her approval.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: She mentions that she grew up in Sharance and was raised by her brother, which could potentially mean that they passed away when she was young.
  • Big Brother Worship: To say she idolizes Carlos is a bit of an underestatement. The feeling is mutual.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: It's either her or Carlos that gives the key information that Micah's fiancée went to the Dragon Cave.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Anything with Pumpkin irks her out something fierce.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: She hits Micah quite often, even when Micah proposes to her.
  • Family Theme Naming: In the English version, both Carlos and Carmen's names start with "car".
  • Genki Girl: She's very active and gets fired up about anything that catches her interest.
  • Hot-Blooded: Runs in the family. She's just as passionate about fishing as her brother.
  • Improbable Weapon User: She fights with a fishing pole.
  • Incest Subtext: She's rather... attached to her brother. Their introduction scene has them going totally melodramatic about her going out to go fishing, complete with "My dear brother/my beloved sister"s, and both talk about having trouble finding a boy/girlfriend as good as their sibling.
  • Large Ham: She even mentions having little to no control of her indoor voice.
  • Love Confession: In one of her late requests she outright confesses to Micah, no beating around the bush, no Aborted Declaration of Love, no I "Uh" You, Too. Whether Micah answers to it with an Engagement Ring or not is up to your decision.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: Puts up airs of a stern, tough, teacher when it comes to teaching fishing to Micah. Carmen is actually a little annoyed when Micah thinks her tough self is her default mood, though.
  • Raised by Dudes: She was raised by Carlos and his influence on her personality is clear as day.
  • Sailor Fuku: Her outfit is a stylized version of this.
  • Serious Business: Fishing is what she does for a living and a big passion for her. One piece of dialogue has her telling how she got into an argue with Monica after she said fishes were disgusting.
  • Sore Loser: She doesn't take well in losing the fishing contests of Sharance, which is understandable given she prides herself as an angler.
  • Tomboy: Carmen is one of the more most outspoken bacherolettes of Sharance and takes a lot from her brother, Carlos.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She takes proper care of her skin given she spends a lot of time under the sun fishing. One of her requests has her giving Micah a "test" which is very obviously from a matchmaking magazine.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fish dishes. One of her conversations has her saying that she will not accept a man in her life if he cannot eat fish. Ironically Carmen mentions she used to hate fish when she was little.
  • Tsundere: Carmen bobbles between Types A and B. The Type A comes out when she's being the "master" and Micah her "student" and she's stern but fair teacher. The Type B is how she is naturally being a peppy and cheerful girl being quite shy when the theme of love comes out (and a little annoyed at Micah's cluelessness).

    Sofia

Sofia de Sainte-Coquille (JP: Sophia Harapenyo Viviaaju)

"Sherman's spoiled, haughty daughter. Takes after his habit of speaking in opposites."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A girl who always says the opposite of what she means. Despite her wealthy upbringing, she has a pretty down-to-earth worldview. Her way of expressing it, however..."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Sherman, Evelyn

Sherman's daughter. Like her father, she has the habit of saying the opposite of what she means. She often hangs out with Raven and Karina for festivals.
  • Afraid of Doctors: While everyone is wary of Marian's crazy experiments Sofia is downright terrified of her and becomes a stuttering mess whenever Marian is nearby. Marjorie alludes to an incident that happened between the two in the past, but doesn't give any details.
  • Arranged Marriage: One of her events has her running away from home and getting very upset at her father because of this. It takes Micah and Evelyn's combined efforts to calm down both parties.
  • Bad Liar: Her lies are printed in red to drive this home. It still manages to confuse most people in town except Evelyn and her friends. This also extends to her voice clips: she speaks how she "loves" something with utter disgust and how she "hates" something with the sweetest tone.
  • Becoming the Mask: Sofia started her strange habit of speaking in opposites after an incident with Evelyn when they were younger. Evelyn gave Sofia a necklace made of trash materials which Sofia hated, but saying that made Evelyn very sad. To avoid hurting her sister's feelings Sofia pretended she was talking the same way her father did and the habit stuck ever since. Evenlyn doesn't seem to realize this incident was what triggered her habit.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Sofia's actually enjoys eating Failed Dish and Super Failures and sometimes you can see her carrying one around Sharance and snacking on it.
  • Boring, but Practical: Sofia's fighting style foregoes any flashy moves and she never performs the ultimate weapon attack unlike most townsfolks you can invite to adventure with you. However this also makes Sofia attack relatively more often without interruptions and if the enemy is too far she'll just use a Power Wave ability that has a respectable damage as well.
  • Brutal Honesty: The more you interpret the meanings of her swapped words the more you'll notice Sofia rarely hold punches when talking to people. She means well, though. And being brutally honest is what made her to start talking in opposites in first place.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Goodbye" (when meeting you), "Good Evening" (when meeting her at morning).
  • Character Tics: Speaks in opposites, just like her father and it's not something she does simply to mess with people or that she can flip a switch and stop, and she speak even more in opposites when she gets emotional (happy, angry or distressed). Evelyn also mentions that not talking in opposites stresses Sofia out and she has to make a conscious effort not to do it. This is surprisingly deconstructed; one quest of hers involves Micah keeping an unwanted suitor away from her and Sofia's inability of stop speaking in opposites only encourages him even more until Karina and Micah steps in.
  • Collector of the Strange: The only character to like "trash" like Scrap Metal, Branches, Stones, Cans and Failed Dishes. The only thing she likes more than that? Rare Cans and Super Failures. Even her father has absolutely no idea why she's fascinated by trash items.
  • Combat Medic: Downplayed. Sofia cannot use Cure spells, but she will use Medi-class to heal poison, seal and paralysis and her weapon of choice are one-handed swords.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Has purple hair and eyes, keeping it in tone with the de-Saint Coquille royal coloring theme.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: If Micah has a good relationship with her Sofia will sometimes ask what Micah thinks of her. One of his answers can be "You're fine, I guess" which leaves her nonplussed.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Her love of Failed Dish and Super Fails (Disastrou Dishes) will restore her health and buff her statuses instead of doing the opposite. Likewise Withered Grass can be used to heal her without overriding the buffs given by Failed Dishes and Super Fails. These things can be used if she's selected in Sharance Maze.
  • Girly Bruiser: Sofia is one of the more feminine bachelorettes and very focused on attacking enemies up close with one-handed sword attacks or from a certain distance with the Power Wave ability.
  • Hidden Depths: Despite her quirky way of talking Sofia is one of the more down to earth people of Sharance, she gives Karina and Raven good advice on her jobs and has interest in fashion like Evelyn. The closer Micah gets to Sofia the more self-conscious she becomes of her "weirdness". Deep down Sofia is afraid she won't get accepted by anyone who isn't used to her quirky way of talking.
  • Hidden Purpose Test: Sofia likes to test people she has taken a liking to by asking them things in her opposite-speaking. One of her requests has her doing this and she's very happy when Micah passes said test with flying colors.
  • Informed Flaw: The in-game description of 3 mentions her being "haughty", but she's one of the friendlier characters from the start and gets along very well with other people despite her quirkiness. The Special remaster description does not mention her being haughty, though.
  • It Runs in the Family: She took the opposite speaking habit from her father after an incident with Evelyn when they were young. While it drives her sister crazy, she and Sherman understand each other perfectly.
  • Insecure Love Interest: At high FP Sofia will constantly worry if her opposite speak doesn't irritate Micah and always shows concern about how off-putting it can be to other people. If married she also wonders what Micah saw in her clearly afraid of what she might hear.
  • Lady of War: While every other bacherolette can fight, Sofia stands out by being an elegantly-dressed lady of high status capable of using magic and sword attacks.
  • The Nicknamer: Has a tendency to call people by their occupations or something they work with: Chef (Blaise), sous-chef (Collette), pastry chef (Rusk), innkeeper (Shino), and iron man (Gaius).
  • Non-Idle Rich: In her bedroom, Micah finds impressive clothing designs, and she seems to have a genuine interest in forging and shopkeeping. She also shows interest in more complex subjects; in one of Raven's requests she's the one who calm Raven down about her curse saying she's been researching the light Raven saw and Sofia assures her that it never made any human disappear.
    • If married Sofia keeps herself busy with housework besides her regular schedule and scoffs at Karina's idea that she'd spend all day lazying around (then again she kind of sees Karina's point).
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: "I feel... great..." if she gets knocked out while in your party.
  • Noodle Incident: Something happened between Sofia and Marian that made Sofia very afraid of Marian before Micah moved to Sharance. Marjorie alludes to the situation but doesn't explain in details.
  • Only Sane Woman: Before she started talking in opposites, she was by far the least quirky member of her family. Her only "odd" feature, her interest in junk, is actually fairly normal. However she basically forced her speech habits on herself when she hurt her sister's feelings and tried to convince her that she meant the opposite of what she said. She also gives solid advice on shopkeeping to both Karina and Raven and tries her best to advertise Evelyn's clothes despite her sister's "zany" sense of style.
  • Opposite Day: Which is (almost) every day for her. While the player has the benefit of knowing exactly which words Sofia has swapped, Micah doesn't and he often gets confused by her and even more confused on the rare cases Sofia doesn't swap the meaning of any word.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Sofia stops speaking in opposites in a high affection quest at Evenlyn's suggestion and she accepts since she's afraid that Micah wouldn't like a "weird" girl like her. Prior to that one random conversation can have Sofia asking if Micah likes "Normal" girls or "Different" ones, if he answers "Different" (in her opposite speaking way) Sofia is disheartened by it.
  • Parasol of Prettiness: She carries one around when she's outside. Sofia says it's good to smash small bugs and protect herself from the sun, but it's too small for rainy days.
  • Rainbow Speak: The player has this benefit. Everyone else? Not so much.
  • Shared Family Quirks: She shares the same strange opposite speaking habit of her father. On a more serious note she also has a keen sense for business like Evelyn and Sherman as well.
  • Spoiled Sweet: Member of the richest family in town, but gets along with "lower class" townsfolk with no issues. And there's also the reason why she started speaking in opposites in first place...
  • Sword Beam: She can use the Rune Ability Power Wave to hit enemies from a distance.
  • Town Girls: She's the Femme to Raven's Butch and Karina's Neither, dressed as a noblewoman and often carrying around a parasol on sunny days.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: She definitely doesn't take after Sherman.

"Outgoing girl who's training to become a doctor. However, her treatments don't always go as planned..."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"Both an apprentice witch AND apprentice doctor. She's researching how to combine the two disciplines, occasionally putting herself and others at risk in the process."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Marjorie

The local Cute Witch. She helps her grandmother run the magic hospital and formulates new medicines in her spare time. Collette's her favorite test subject.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: She only lives with her grandmother and her parents are never mentioned.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Collette calls her "Merry" in Special.
  • Black Mage: Unsurprisingly, she wields many types of elemental magic to fight when in your party.
  • Character Development: While Marian never stops with her eagerness to test her medicines, she learns to have a bit more restraint and that she cannot rush her progress as witch or doctor or else she can put lives at risk. It does take a good scolding from Marjorie for it to happen.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Do you want a shot?", "Just a little jab" in Special.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She sports a pair.
  • Cute Witch: It is even in her character description.
  • The Dreaded: Played mostly for laughs. Everyone in Sharance is aware of how crazy Marian's medicines and experiments are so they tend to stay away from it. Collette and Sofia are noted to have had bad times with Marian and her injections.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Tomatoes which she used to like. Because of her love for tomatoes and their scent, Marjorie enchanted her sense of smell to strengthen it. However, the spell ended up too strong and the smell of tomatoes completely nauseates her now.
  • The Generation Gap: Marian favors modern medicine and techniques a lot more than Marjorie's old fashioned magic.
  • Genki Girl: She's, uh, very enthusiastic about treating everyone.
  • Glass Cannon: She has a decent arsenal of elemental magic and can do a lot of damage in a very short time, but her VIT growth is abysmal.
  • Good Old Ways: Played with. Marian is not averse to learning the old ways of her trade, but she's doesn't like her grandmother's insistence on keeping only the old ways.
  • Hidden Depths: She's surprisingly down-to-earth when it comes to her own health. Marian is also grateful for the people of Sharance for putting up with her antics, something so unusual Micah even asks if she didn't hit her head or something.
  • Hot-Blooded: Not in the usual screaming way, but she's very passionate about what she does and when something picks her interests even more than usual there's nothing that can hold her back.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Her weapon is a giant syringe and counts as a rod-type weapon but is wielded more or less like a spear to stab enemies instead of bashing them. It sort of resembles a trumpet too for some reason.
  • Love Confession: After a certain request is finished Marian openly says she loves Micah, who's unsure how to respond to her feelings, especially since said confession comes before he's able to reveal his half-monster, half-human secret to her.
  • Mad Scientist: She dabbles in vegetable growing and always has some crazy vegetable for the end of season festivals. Most of times said vegetable runs away and in a few festivals Sakuya even pretends she didn't see anything.
  • Mad Doctor: Well, she uses magic more than science, but she still has the right attitude, and she wants to try every type of medicine with everyone.

"An excitable and eccentric artist of many medius. She LOVES rainbows."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"An artist skilled in multiple mediums who loves to incorporate rainbows into her work. Always on the lookout for the next rainbow inspiration."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Her art

An elf artist who stays in the forest just out of town. She's highly passionate about her works and calls Micah her "assistant".
  • Attention Whore: Downplayed. She has a very bombastic personality and makes no small effort in drawing attention to her and her art, but she does not impose herself on others... except Micah, who is basically, sort of, kinda conscripted into becoming her assistant.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: With a hammer and rainbows, this woman has no regard it at all. Sometimes she does it by breaking text boxes, or sometimes by asking you (the player) to pick another dialogue tree option. Sadly most of it was taken out in the Special remaster.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Rainbow!". Or at the lesser extend, her use of "Very artistic!/How artistic!" and its variation.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Probably higher up in the clouds than Pia.
  • Calling Your Attacks: "Beautiful attack!" "MARVELOUS attack!" "Daria ATTACK!"
  • Covert Pervert: A very, very downplayed example, but in one of the requests she asks a Ruby Ring from Micah in order to "check" on his Crafting skill. Once Micah delivers the ring to her she starts giggling and thinking to herself: "A ring from Micah..."
  • Cute Bruiser: She wields Hammers/Axes to fight and can use some Rune Abilities attributed to them.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She will randomly trip while standing still.
  • Everybody Knew Already: Micah is not supposed to realize she's an elf until she tells him, after he reveals his wooly form to her.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: So much so, she might even speak with them when she uses the line. Some of her favored gifts have "Rainbow" in their name and one of her spells casts rainbows around (though it seemingly has no other effect).
  • Family Theme Naming: In the JP version with Margaret from Rune Factory 4, who is heavily implied to be her younger sister. They are both named after flowers.
  • Forgets to Eat: Her art takes priority over food. One of her requests is getting her some food after she passes out while working.
  • Genki Girl: There's never a dull moment whenever one is around Daria. Micah tries (key word being "tries") to keep up with her with varying rates of success.
  • Herd-Hitting Attack: She can use the Grand Impact Rune Ability to hit whatever's around her.
  • Hidden Depths: Daria has a much more serious side to her, but that rarely comes up.
  • Hypocritical Humor: She usually reacts with surprise if Micah tries to "out-silly" her.
Daria: My art is calling me...
--> [From over there] [What do you mean?]
Daria: What was that ridiculous remark?
    Micah: You're one to talk...
Daria: Ha ha... you got me.
  • Improbable Use of a Weapon: Her hammer is an appropriate weapon. Using it as a paintbrush is not.
  • Ineffectual Loner: Notice that she lives at the front of the forest, away from the town, and doesn't have clique? Or how the town's inhabitants seem to have little regard of her?
  • Large Ham: Nearly every voice clips has her shouting. Also whenever Micah tries saying her catchphrase during a date, she'll complain about how quietly he said it and tries to teach him to shout it louder.
  • Mad Artist: Maybe not mad, but still a little, well, screwy. She tries to drag Micah into becoming her assistant, too. "Go, my assistant!". Micah just (mostly) plays along to humor her.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: As an elf, she has an extended lifespan. She confesses she was afraid of marrying Micah because she feared outliving him and being left alone.
  • No Indoor Voice: Often greets you with a pretty sonore "Hi!" and she's often yelling "Rainbow" whenever she gets excited about anything.
  • Older Than She Looks: Implied. She's the only bachelorette who mentions the Noodle Incident involving Blaise and wine. The only other villagers that mention it are Wells and Marjorie.
  • One-Track-Minded Artist: She wants to color the world rainbow. Among the things she wants to paint rainbow are: Micah's fields, Micah's wooly form, beans for the bean festival and snowflakes of winter.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • After finishing one of her requests, one she asks Micah to find a rare Round Stone, Daria is apologetic about forcing him to get it for her which catches Micah completely off guard. A later request has Daria being much more serious about her art, also talking about her past and what inspired her to become an artist.
    • In the events leading to Micah revealing his Wooly form to her, he laments that he doubts their relationship would work since he technically isn't human. She drops all of her quirks and attempts to console him.
  • Pointy Ears: Well, she IS an elf.
  • Renaissance Woman: While her main focus seems to be painting, her studio is filled with sculputures of her own making too.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Dried Sardine, Flavored Radish and Miso Eggplant. You can even find them in the box by her bedside every now and then.
  • Unkempt Beauty: Her clothes and cheek are covered in paint splatters, but she still looks great.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She hates Shrimps to the point merely thinking about them makes her shiver.

Voiced By: Mai Nakahara (JP), Dawn M. Bennett (EN, Special)

"The proud elder of the univir settlement. One of the last remnants of her ancient race."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"The elder of the monster settlement and surviving member of the one-horned univir people. She has been friends with Ondorus since they were little."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: None

One of the horned people, and the headswoman of the Monster Village in Sol Terrano Desert. She dislikes humans and has a sweet tooth. Her pet fireball, Will, is always by her side.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: She wears a pair of spectacles that give her an air of authority rather than bookishness or intelligence, and she's rather fussy about them. Micah has the option to ask if he can touch them during a date, which will fluster her.
  • Big Eater: Not Kuruna, but Will. He's able to eat about 100 turnips a day. Micah notes that Colette might have some competition.
  • Brutal Honesty: Will has a tendency to speak his mind, sometimes about Kuruna's personal problems which flusters her.
  • Character Check: Even after the Unity Festival she'll rarely let slip a remark about the "hateful hornless".
  • Childhood Friends: With Ondorus and he's the only one she's willing to listen to. Although he fails to convince her to consider mending the relationships with the hornless.
  • Cute Monster Girl: The horned people are a unicorn like race, which mostly manifests as them being Horned Humanoids.
  • Facial Markings: Has very light ones on her jawline. They're the fantasy equivalent of sunscreen.
  • Fantastic Racism: Even more so than Wells; after everyone has accepted Micah's half-human state, she initially refuses to say a word to him other than calling him a traitor.
  • Hulk Speak: Will speaks like this and in all caps, but in Special the all caps speech is gone.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: If Micah already married when he accepts her request for a date, he will be visibly uncomfortable and finally says that she's just a friend. She then, with her head held high, says that he should take care of his wife. She even chastises Micah if he picks the "soulmate" option. Very visible the difference between other bachelorettes, who seem to disregard that Micah already has wife, and even children.
  • Informed Ability: She supposedly enjoys sewing but if you give her cloth, she'll call it junk.
  • Last Girl Wins: Likely to be the last girl Micah will meet and interact with.
  • Long-Lived: Univir like her have long life spans. It's not specified if they life as long as elves, dwarves or even more.
  • Not So Above It All: She's such a Sweet Tooth that thinking Micah is hiding sweets brings out a surprisingly less mature (and comical) side of her.
  • Older Than They Look: Still looks like a young woman despite being older than Wells.
  • Pointy Ears: Another trait of the univir.
  • Really 700 Years Old: During the Unity Festival, talk to Wells while she's following Micah, she'll mention that she's even older than him.
  • Sweet Tooth: Her favorite gifts are dessert items, specifically chocolate ones. She'll even give Micah cake and cookies for lunch if you marry her.
  • Superior Species: Directly states this saying "hornless" are nothing but hateful creatures.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: The long lives of her species means that she has lost many friends.

Sharance Residents

Wells

Voiced By: Yugo Takahashi (JP), Jason Marnocha (EN, Special)

"The town's mayor who also runs the flower shop. He's stubborn, but soft on his grauddaughter, Monica."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A professional florist with stubborn streak, he is searching for a way to make the flowers on the Sharance Tree bloom. Has a soft spot for his granddaughter Monica."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Shara, Monica

The town mayor and Shara's grandfather. He dislikes monsters and thinks them all bloodthirsty creatures, even the cute ones.
  • Berserk Button: He really doesn't like monsters. His age is also a bit of a touchy subject which Micah and even Shara end up getting on his bad side occasionally. Speaking ill of the Sharance Tree is also a sure way to really grind his gears.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: They almost cover his eyes.
  • Doting Grandparent: He tends to spoil Monica, despite Shara instructing him not to.
  • Grumpy Old Man: Downplayed. Wells has a bit of a temper, but is generally a kind man who tries to help people whenever he can.
  • Goal in Life: He's always wanted to make the Sharance Tree bloom again. It's the reason why he studied botany and passed on his craft to Shara and Monica. Monica mentions he shed Tears of Joy in private once they did bloom.
  • Hidden Depths: He's clearly distrustful of monsters, but allows non-humans live in Sharance and never shows any sign of bias against them. This is a hint that Wells is actually much more tolerant than he lets on. And surely enough when the suggestion of the Unity Festival pops up Wells accepts it with little discordance.
  • Needlework Is for Old People: He initially dislikes this trope, but is revealed to actually be very good at it when he knits Monica a hat. Later on Shara will mention Wells did really took on the hobby of knitting.
  • Miniature Senior Citizens: He appears to be the same height as Monica because he's hunched over.
  • Racist Grandpa: Wells doesn't take kindly to monsters, but besides being upset about how the relationship between humans and univir soured with time and angrily attempting to shoo Micah in his Wooly form (before he learns of the truth) he doesn't do much and doesn't try to spread his bigotry to Shara or Monica.
  • Rambling Old Man Monologue: Not very often, but sometimes Wells rambles about Sharance being different, quieter, from the time he was younger.
  • Real Men Hate Sugar: He doesn't quite like sweets, but mentions accepting cakes Monica and Shara bakes.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite his clear bias against the univir it's Wells who's the first one to accept Micah's idea of the Unity Festival in order to make the Sharance Tree flower bloom again. Kuruna on the other hand is so against the mere thought that Micah has to go out of his way to create something to convince her that Wells' and the people of Sharance Town's wish for peace is genuine.

"A very shy girl. She has a habit of biting stranger. She loves her older sister and is very protective of her."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A young girl who does NOT take kindly to strangers and will bite when provoked. Loves her big sister more than anything in the world."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Wells, Shara

Shara's little sister. She gets angry and upset around strangers.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Her and Shara's parents are never mentioned.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: She starts doing everything she can do get in Micah's way whenever he tries to talk to Shara. But she gets better eventually.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest resident of Sharance at least until Micah's child is born.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The reason she warms up to Micah. Even after all her biting and general brattiness Micah didn't stop trying to help her. What makes Monica truly accept Micah is confessing why she bites people and Micah saying, without judging her, that as long as she knows it's a bad thing to do and she tries to better herself she can do it.
  • Berserk Button: Strangers in general makes her very anxious at best and makes her bite them at worst, she also doesn't like people getting close to her sister. Unfortunately for Micah, at the beginning at least, he hits both buttons. Other than that she doesn't like being treated like a little kid chiding Micah when he asks if Monica likes dolls.
  • Big Sister Worship: She adores Shara and one of the reasons for her instant dislike of Micah is seeing him get close to her.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: She doesn't give Micah a break until he befriends her and she isn't shy about voicing her dislikes even if it gets people upset, like saying how much she hates fish to Carmen.
  • Brutal Honesty: She has almost no filter and tend to speak whatever's on her mind, but it's mostly due to her young age.
  • Character Check: Even after she warms up she still bites Micah on occasion... Mostly when he says something that makes her feel a bit too happy (to the point she's embarrassed).
  • Character Development: She starts off very hostile towards Micah until a certain request pops up from Shara. She'll request that Micah act as a prince from Monica's favorite fairy tale and do whatever she wants for a day. Once the request is completed, she becomes much friendlier.
  • Cheerful Child: Even before her Character Development there are several moments, mostly in festivals and with Shara, where Monica shows a much more chipper side of her.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Has orange eyes and hair.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She really doesn't like fish and every fish related festival has her being in a funk because of it.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The first moment you visit Fantastic Flowers has Monica rushing downstairs and vividly expressing her instant dislike of Micah all while Wells tries to rein her fury.
  • Fiery Redhead: She's violent towards strangers and bites them. During the "Rose Prince" event Monica mentions she does it because she gets too nervous around them.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Subverted. Monica thinks she's more mature than Shara, when the latter is actually just playing along.
  • Hidden Depths: During the "Rose Prince" request Monica reveals she's fully aware that her aggressive attitude towards strangers is wrong, but she can't help it since she's shy and gets quite nervous around them. While she's been trying to change it, she didn't see much progress.
  • Kids Hate Vegetables: Averted. A conversation with Monica has Micah noting that Shara said Monica doesn't have a lot of problems eating vegetables.
  • Meaningful Gift: Most accessories are her loved gifts, it also goes along with her dream of owning an accessory shop which she mentions to Micah once she stops being openly hostile to him. Additionally items that can be used for accessory making are well liked by Monica.
  • No Social Skills: Has a tendency to yell "Gaaaaaauuuu"note  whenever Micah speaks to her or even comes close. She also tends to bite strangers or people that flat out annoy her. This mostly stems from her being very shy and not being sure how to react to strange people or deal with emotions overwhelming her.
  • Precocious Crush: On Micah, once she warms up to him even saying that if Shara refuses him she'd marry Micah instead.
  • Raised by Grandparents: She and Shara live with their grandfather.
  • Shipper on Deck: After she warms up she becomes this instead of being jealous of Micah, she'll even be sad to think Micah may like someone else than Shara.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Shara is calm, understanding, positive and very social, but Monica is shy, prone to biting in a fit of anger/anxiousness and generally avoids strange people.

    Gaius

Gaius (JP: Gadzhi)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gadzhi.png
Voiced By: Keisuke Komoto (JP), Nathan Hedrick (EN, Special)

"The town blacksmith. Loves forging weapons and items. A dwarf."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"The town blacksmith, he's as deft with a hammer as he is making small talk with his customers."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: None

The town blacksmith. Ostensibly a dwarf, although he looks more like an elf. Generally a friendly guy all around and nonplussed by anything.
  • Absent-Minded Professor: Actually an Absent Minded Blacksmith. Gaius often overworks himself without even realizing it, uses things like bronze and iron to cultivate crops, never remembers the name of festivals or where he can find specific ores and crystals and sometimes eats while resting by his forge... until he passes out from the heat and is helped by a very worried Raven.
  • BFS: While he initially comes with a hammer to fight, he will also accept Longswords as well.
  • Call to Agriculture: Downplayed. Like most of Sharance villagers he will participate in the end of season harvest festivals. What makes Gaius unique is that he will always mention using things like Iron and Bronze to grow crops much to Micah's consternation who begs him to use regular soil instead.
  • Cannot Talk to Women: He gets really flustered around Evelyn.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While the "deadpan" needs a bit of work he sometimes cracks a few snarky commentaries without breaking his cheerful demeanor, sometimes he does this just trying to be sincere.
  • Doing It for the Art:invoked He forges weapons because he enjoys it, not for the money. He even mentions that, without Raven running the store, he'd go bankrupt.
  • Eye Scream: Implied. He alludes to a mining or forging accident that he lost his right eye in.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Half of them at least. Gaius always has his right eye shut and it's heavily implied he's either blind or outright lost it in an accident.
  • Facial Markings: Has a blue one over his right eye.
  • Forgetful Jones: Gaius knows when festivals are going to happen, but rarely remembers what festival will happen. He also knows about portals giving elemental crystals and ores in the areas around Sharance, but never actually remembers what is where.
  • Forgets to Eat: Or sleep, or do anything else when he's working. In one quest, Raven admits she makes sure they "run out" of ore when it's time for him to take a break.
  • The Gadfly: Unlike Carlos, who seems to not realize the gay impications of his dialogue, Gaius will cheerfully suggest that there may be something between him and Micah just for Micah's reaction. In one case he'll even claim that the only reason he wouldn't propose to Micah is that he's already married.
  • Hidden Depths: Gaius is very perceptive, especially with Raven; she doesn't even need to say anything and he might notice something is wrong about her immediately.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Has a crush on Evelyn but she only thinks of him as nothing more than a friend. After Micah gets married, she offers to wear the engagement ring Gaius made for her and walk around with him, which implies that there's hope.
  • The Illegible: He keeps a diary, but Micah won't be able to make out a word of it. If Gaius is there when he tries to read it, he'll admit that he can't either.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: He has no access to any magic of any kind, but more than makes up with Longsword Rune Abilities like Delta Strike and Flash Strike.
  • Mellow Fellow: He never loses his temper, raises his voice in anger and is overall such a chill guy he could cool down his own furnace with his coolness.
  • Meaningful Gift: He likes ore used in crafting like Iron and Bronze. Rarer ones like Gold and Platinum are his loved gifts.
  • Nice Guy: Gaius is an understanding, patient and mild-tempered guy who's never in a hurry. Gaius mentions that being Hot-Blooded and impatient near a searing hot forge is a terrible combination and also implies this is what caused the accident that took one of his eyes. He also shelters Sofia during one of her requests when she has a falling out with her father and lets her accompany him while he's out foraging materials.
  • Not So Above It All: In one of Raven's requests Gaius muses that Raven is going to get extra ore with Micah even though they don't need any. Then he puts two and two together, but keeps quiet about it so not to embarrass Raven... but asks for "Curry Udon" for dinner in return.
  • Older Than They Look: He looks around the same age as the other guys in town, but he also plays a fatherly role to Raven and has some wisdom that clearly comes from living through a lot. When Raven attempts to cut contact with Micah, Gaius has a heart-to-heart with him asking Micah to be patient and give Raven some space, but not leave her.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Utterly averted: he's a bishie-looking pointy-eared blunette with an eternally friendly demeanor.
  • Parental Substitute: For Raven, though he doesn't directly show it. Raven herself likens him more to a father than a brother and Micah notes Gaius a bit too old to be considered her older brother.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Udon. He mentions loving to eat a hot bowl near a searing hot forge... and nearly passing out from it, much to Micah's worry.
  • Vocal Dissonance: He has a pretty deep voice for a guy that looks about the same age of Micah and Rusk. Even more so in the Japanese version where he sounds almost grandfatherly.
  • Workaholic: Unintentionally. He gets so absorbed when forging he forgets everything around and about him to the point where merely letting go of his forging hammer makes him go out like a candle.

"The serious, hardworking owner of the general store. She worries about her daughter Karina's laziness."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"The fesity proprietess of the general store. Constantly worries about her daughter's future, which leads to no shortage of long sighs on her part."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Karina

Karina's mother. She runs the town general store and is often upset with her daughter's laziness.
  • Action Mom: Can be invited to your party to fight alongside you and she will wield axes to fight monsters.
  • Anger Born of Worry: She's tough on Karina, but admits that she sometimes doesn't sleep at night because she worries about her daughter and the future of the store.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: For as much Karina and Hazel bicker and argue, when Karina, in one of her requests, asks to tend to the shop all by herself Hazel accepts needing only a small push from Karina. When the day looks like it's going to end on a low note Hazel appears and makes sure to give pointers on shopkeeping for Karina as well.
  • The Comically Serious: Downplayed since Hazel is more playful than most examples, but she's very no-nonsense when it comes to her store and her seriousness leads to some amusing situations and conversations when regarding her extremely lazy daughter.
  • Character Tics: She has a habit of letting out a tired sigh... Usually due to something Karina did, or rather, something she didn't do.
  • Commonality Connection: She and Shino became friends upon realizing that they were both single mothers. Hazel muses that most of times their conversations end up being about her daughters.
  • Deadpan Snarker: This side of her doesn't come up often but it's there, mostly when Karina is involved and Karina had to get it from someone after all. In Special Hazel even calls Karina "lawn ornament" due to her laziness.
  • Foil: To Shino. While both are hardworking and very concerned about their daughters, Shino is very patient and understanding, if strict when necessary, but Hazel has a much stronger temperament and very little patience for Karina's antics. Hazel even muses in one conversation on how she wonders how Shino manages to be so easygoing with her children.
  • Good Parents: Despite being very exasperated with her daughter a lot of times, Karina mentions that whenever she's in trouble Hazel would drop everything to help her. After Karina purposefully catches a cold in one of her events Hazel is very upset at Karina's dumb idea, but she still takes care of her, but is more concerned than actually angry.
  • Hidden Depths: In one of her requests she reveals she's fully aware that Karina is intending to leave Sharance and regrets letting their relationship becoming so estranged due to her work. She feels it's too late for her to do anything about it, but asks Micah to keep an eye on her.
  • Irony: Hazel can win the Catch Most Fish Festival and her score is unusually high going as high as 19. This is after she says in the previous day she has a hard time with this festival due to it demanding her to stand still doing nothing.
  • Parents as People: Hazel is often hard on Karina, but it's clear she loves her daughter dearly even if she has difficulty in showing it and tries her best to guide her into becoming a proper shopkeeper. However she is nowhere as patient as Marjorie or Shino which leads into a lot of situations she butt heads with Karina.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Not the lazy part from Karina, no, but Hazel has a tendency to bottle down her difficulties and keeping to herself to a fault. It's something she notices Karina picked up and she isn't proud of that.
  • Struggling Single Mother: According to Shino, she likes to present herself as composed when she actually isn't.
  • Sweet Tooth: She loves cake and expresses it out of nowhere which surprises even Micah.
  • Tough Love: She's often very strict on Karina due to her being worried about her future, but said strictness is the main source of conflict between the two.
  • Trade Mark Favorite Food: Cake. And unlike other examples, she verbally disagrees with Micah when he suggests the best sweet food is anything other than cake.
  • Tsundere: Type B. She doesn't like letting it show how much she actually cares about Karina, although she does refer to her as her "stupid" daughter.
  • Workaholic: She runs the general store and often has to step in whenever Karina slacks off. This trait is also why Karina became so lazy in the first place.

"Extremely passionate about fishing and life in general. Loves his sister and can be overprotective of her."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A fiery young angler who followed his dream of running a fishing resort in town. He idolizes seafarers. Constantly frets over his strong-willed little sister."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Carmen

Carmen's big brother. May be considered a jock. He's highly protective of Carmen and runs the fishing resort with her by the lake.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Carlos fits the bill since he's is a Parental Substitute for Carmen. When Carmen invites Micah over for dinner he shares embarrassing stories about Carmen during a dinner with her and Micah. He also has a tendency to try and show off during several festivals which leaves Carmen mortified.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: None of his parents are present in Sharance. According to Carmen, he was the one that raised her ever since she was very little.
  • Ambiguously Bi: A lot of his dialogue can be interpreted as flirting with Micah, and he doesn't really seem to have any interest in girls besides Carmen. He mentions that he can't be tied down to just one girl, and he liked the "girly" cologne. But whenever it seems like he is interested in one of the girls, he immediately turns around and subverts it.
  • Berserk Button: Anyone trying get close to his sister sends him into a fit of concerned anger.
  • Big Brother Instinct: He's very protective of Carmen to say the least. Given that she's his only family it's understandable.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Related to his Big Brother Instinct, but also due to him being a Parental Substitute for Carmen.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Carlos, or Carmen, will be the one who will tell you that he saw Micah's runaway bride going into the Dragon Cave, the last dungeon in the main story.
  • Facial Markings: Has a red sunscreen mark on his cheek, as well as his arms.
  • Family Theme Naming: In the English version, both Carlos and Carmen's names start with "car".
  • Goal in Life: He aims to catch the "King Fish" (or "Guardian" in Special) lurking in Sharance's Dragon Lake.
  • Hidden Depths: Carlos is surprisingly physilosophical and has a knack for Purple Prose which is seen when he has apparently fallen in love with someone note .
  • Hidden Purpose Test: One of his requests has him asking Micah to fish two Love/Throbby Snappers, a fish that's notoriously difficult to catch regardless of season and requires high fishing skill or very quick reflexes and perseverance. Once completed Carlos reveals he asked this from Micah in order to see if he'd give up at an apparent difficult task and finally relents stopping getting between Micah and Carmen.
  • Hunk: Seriously, just look at him.
  • Incest Subtext: He's rather... attached to his sister. Their introduction scene has them going totally melodramatic about her going out to go fishing, complete with "My dear brother/my beloved sister"s, and both talk about having trouble finding a boy/girlfriend as good as their sibling.
  • Large Ham: A lot of his voiced lines are pretty hammy. "Whoa, yeah!" (slightly less hammy in Special).
  • Meaningful Gift: Fishes of any kind are good gifts for him. Love/Throbby Snapper dishes, however, are his absolute favorite.
  • Mood-Swinger: He's a friendly hammy surfer dude that loves fishing. But just give a slight hint you're interested in his sister and you'll be on the wrong end of his Big Brother Instinct-fueld wrath.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He spends all his time in a frayed tanktop that barely covers his tanned and tattooed muscles.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: He's very proud of his build and loves to show it off during the Summer Festival much to Carmen's embarrassement.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: Simply attempting to go foraging for materials with Carmen causes Carlos to fly into an insurmountable rage.
  • Nice Guy: He almost immediately regards Micah as a "bro" and is one of the friedliest townsfolk in Sharance. Well, as long as you don't try to date his sister.
  • Promotion to Parent: Carlos will eventually mention he raised Carmen alone since she was a baby and his parents are nowhere to be seen.
  • Playing with Fire: Carlos can use fire spells when fighting alongside you.
  • Sore Loser: He feels his pride as fisherman taking a hit upon losing the fishing contests.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Someone in a parental role who's fiercily protective of their daughter isn't a first for these games. Douglas had the same temper regarding Mana, although Carmen is aware of her brother's protective antics, but mostly plays along.
  • Surfer Dude: Pretty much stylized after one. "Check out the sun, dude" is one of his greetings.

— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Sakuya

Sakuya's mother and Pia's guardian. She runs the local eastern-themed inn, where passing travellers stay. She drops hints about her mysterious past...
  • Action Mom: Shino as a party member is pretty aggressive and will often throw projectiles against enemies.
  • Berserk Button: Do not do anything that would endanger her girls. On a more comical note Shino is a bit conscious of her age and both Micah and Sakuya push this button accidentally, and hilariously enough in Sakuya's case merely mentioning how old Shino is makes her feel she's in danger.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Shino is unfailingly polite and almost always has a warm smile on her face. That said, she's handy with weapons, very serious about her job as innkeeper and fiercily protective of Sakuya and Pia.
  • Commonality Connection: Became friends with Hazel because she's also a single mother.
  • Cuteness Proximity: She loves cute things; dolls, kittens, but especially woolies. In Sakuya's last requests, Shino suddenly becomes cold toward both Micah and Sakuya in their attempt to make the inn's patrons accept the monsters, which turns out she's actually holding back the urge to glomp Micah right there.
  • Doting Parent: She's very proud of her girls and Hazel mentions in one conversation how Shino will always find a way to sing praises of them when they are chatting.
  • Dual Wielding: Makes use of Dual Swords when fighting alongside you.
  • Foil: To her own daughter. Sakuya is a bit rash and sometimes shows some insecurities regarding her skills as merchant and innkeeper, especially when things don't go her way. Shino on the other hand is always calm and levelheaded even when dealing with stressful situations.
  • Magically Inept Fighter: Shino can't use magic, but she has her own unique projectile attack to hit enemies away from her swords.
  • Mama Bear: She's very protective of her girls and is not even remotely afraid of threatening anyone who dares to mess with them, all without ever raising her voice. Pia may not be her daughter, but Shino still does not take it well when Pia tells her Micah showed her his "thing" (his transformation belt).
  • Mentor Archetype: A bit of a downplayed example since her "training" is mostly wordly advice, and even optional as you have to befriend her. But do so and Shino will often give you advice on how to fight better. Micah is understandably shocked to see how knowledgable she actually is about combat.
  • Mysterious Past: Multiple hints are dropped by her daughter and even herself that she used to do dangerous work in a previous job. She also knows an awful lot about weapons and training, and has a habit of trying to train any great fighter she lays eyes on.
  • Stacy's Mom: Sadly, she isn't a marriage candidate. Neither is Hazel. Marjorie even lampshades this by asking which one of the two would be Micah's type.
    Shino: Micah?
    Micah: ... Yes?
Shino: You're pretty cute now that I've gotten a good look at you.
  • Parents as People: Shino is softspoken and very rarely gets upset at something, but she cares a lot for Sakuya and Pia and tries to makes sure neither of them become too complacent or reliant on others. However some of Shino's advice comes off as cryptic and confusing even to Sakuya and in one of Sakuya's request ends in an argue which Micah awkwardly shies away from.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Don't let her calmness and politeness fool you. Shino is one of higher level starting villagers and her talk about battles isn't just empty boasting. At early game on she's much stronger than most townsfolk in Sharance, including Micah.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She thinks the teddy bears that Evelyn sells are cute, but refuses to buy them because she doesn't want people to think she's girly.
  • Trade Mark Favorite Food: Just like her daughter she really likes Sashimi of all kinds, but keeps quiet about it not to upset Pia. She also enjoys wild mushrooms even if they are poisonous (and will tell Micah if it is if he gifts her one).
  • Troll: According to the Rune Factory Official Memoir book, she's actually joking about the "dangerous work" that she used to do. She was just a travelling merchant who also enjoyed fighting.
  • Yamato Nadeshiko: Fits this trope to a T. Kind, gentle and graceful, but far from being a pushover.

    Blaise

Blaise (JP: Gluten)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gluten.png
Voiced By: Takahiro Fujimoto (JP), Jason Marnocha (EN, Special)

"A three-star chef who's laid-back... except when it comes to the kitchen."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A master chef who imbues part of his soul into each dish. Each bite practically sings with his devotion to his art."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Collette, Rusk

Collette and Rusk's father. He's the proprietor of the local restaurant and sells Micah recipe bread.
  • Action Dad: Father of Rusk and Collette and can be invited to fight alongside you.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Very much downplayed, but Blaise makes sure to be very serious when mentoring and tutoring his children in the restaurant. He gives a harsh judgment on Collette after she fails his expectations, but remains supportive and sternly reminds that Rusk will be tested one day as well.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: A very downplayed example, but some of his high FP dialogue mentions he's not all that prepared to see Collette getting married and leaving the house.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Heavily implied with his rather in-universe (in)famous Wine incident.
  • Chef of Iron: He can be invited to your party to fight alongisde you.
  • Combat Medic: Wields Dual Blades and while he can't use Cure spells he can throw food to help you.
  • Dual Wielding: Dual Blades are his preferred weapon when in your party.
  • Family Theme Naming: His name in Japan fits into the family's theme of being named after foods connected to desserts.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Blaise sometimes talks a bit about his days traveling across the world and it translates with him being one of the higher leveled townsfolk of Sharance.
  • Good Parents: He's very supportive of his children and wants the best for them.
  • Hard Work Hardly Works: Averted. While Micah, Collette and Rusk are all skilled in their own areas, interactions with Blaise and events around them makes it clear Blaise is still on another level when it comes to cooking.
  • Hidden Purpose Test: He partially tests Micah's cooking skills by asking a rather demanding recipes from him. While he's satisfied that Micah is able to do it, he understands his heart isn't in being a cook but somewhere else.
    • He also test Collette's cooking skills having Micah as the one important person to judge her food (based on his reaction). Collette fails the first time, but after realizing her mistake she proves herself to her father making a food thinking of the person, not using her skill as chef.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food: Said to be able to cook the most wondrous of feasts. Considering how highly praised he is by Sherman, this may not be an exaggeration.
  • Nice Guy: One of the nicest villagers. Just don't give him wine.
  • Married to the Job: Blaise rarely leaves his restaurant, usually only on Holidays or festivals.
  • Medicinal Cuisine: He can throw dishes to heal you up.
  • Mellow Fellow: Could compete with Gaius in how much of a chill guy he is. Even after a monster attacks his restaurant he's more annoyed (and worried) than actually angry. A bit of conversation has him musing on how his calmness makes some people mistake him for a cold person.
  • Noodle Incident: Marjorie, Wells and Daria will mention an incident where he had too much wine at a festival, and that's all that any of them will say on the subject. Marjorie will simply ask Micah to talk to Blaise about it, Wells just asks Micah to trust him on this, and Daria begs him to stop asking her to go on. Obviously, he doesn't like being given wine.
  • Shipper on Deck: Once Micah finishes his tests Blaise muses, under his breath, if he can get Micah and Collette to get along.
  • Supreme Chef: He is the primary chef for the entire village. Even Sherman greatly approves of his cooking and asks for more when eating at the diner. In fact it was Sherman who scouted Blaise and had he not accepted go to Sharance the de Saint-Coquille family wouldn't be there.
  • Sweet Tooth: Like his son, he also really likes desserts (especially chocolate). He knows it seems a bit childish, but doesn't really care.
  • The Teetotaler: Tied to the Noodle Incident above any alcoholic drink gets a very negative reaction from him.
  • Walking the Earth: Not anymore, but Collette, Rusk and Blaise himself mentions a bit of his past where he used to travel around the world with his mentor while learning the secrets of his trade.

    Rusk

Rusk

Voiced By: Keisuke Komoto (JP), Lily Emil Lammers (EN, Special)

"The diner's pastry chef. Not a fan of vegetables... or much else, really."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"The diner's patissier and pickest eater. He'll never grow up big and strong with that attitude!"
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Blaise, Collette

Blaise's son and Colette's younger brother. He works at the family restaurant as a pastry chef and strongly dislikes vegetables.
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: Continuing the trend of single-parent children, it's never mentioned where his mom is.
  • Black Mage: Rusk fights primarily casting magic spells, though Rusk is much more fickle than Marian and won't attack nearly as much unless Micah is equipped with a Sun Pendant.
  • Commonality Connection: He and Gaius get along pretty well since both are laidback dudes who are never in a hurry about anything. Due to his Sweet Tooth he and Kuruna quickly become friends as well.
  • Covert Pervert: In the Summer Beach Day he says he likes to go to the lake not only to relax but for a few other reasons too...
  • Foil: To his sister, Collette. Collette doesn't really have any particular choice in food (sans milk) and is very active, Rusk is a very picky eater who sticks mostly to sweets and has a much calmer personality to boot. This also extends to how the fight when adventuring: Collette is a front line pure melee fighter while Rusk is a magic user who tends to stand behind while attacking.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: His picky and hesistant personality also affects his ability in battle, as he won't run up and attack monsters as frequently as the other villagers do.
  • Hair of Gold: His hair is of a golden color much more noticeable than Collette's.
  • Hidden Depths: Rusk is rather quiet, but he doesn't like being pushed around. In one of Marian's requests she comes syringes-blazing ready to jab him, but Rusk knows how much she hates tomatoes and uses it to gross her out and shoo her away.
  • Irony: Due to him hating vegetables so much he has a fairly good knowledge about them on par with Micah's.
  • Kids Hate Vegetables: Though he's not a kid anymore, Rusk really detest vegetables and anything related to them.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite his typical no-nonsense attitude, when not regarding vegetables, Rusk can be surprisingly childish such as when hiding from Collette, who was bent on making him like vegetables, with pretty much a "I can't see you, you can't see me" type of attitude.
  • Odd Name Out: Inverted: he's the only member of the family who kept his Japanese name in the English version, and thus the only one still named after a dessert-related topic.
  • Picky Eater: Won't touch anything that has vegetable in it. As his Relationship Values rises, Micah can convince him to try vegetable by pointing out random fact that he seems to pull out of nowhere. Not that it changes his gift preferences...
  • Sibling Rivalry: Downplayed. He and Collette occasionally squabble over their taste in food, but they've got each other's back. Not that they'll ever admit, though.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: His food preference as noted in the Picky Eater entry which contrasts his sister's, Collette, ability to eat about anything. Even his father isn't sure how and why Rusk turned out to be the Sweet Tooth he is.
  • Supreme Chef: For sweets at least. In Rune Factory 4 Raven mentions he, alongside Collette, runs Blaise's restaurant together and Rusk is the pastry chef.
  • Sweet Tooth: In fact, he bonds quickly with Kuruna because of their mutual love for sweets.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Any sweets strikes his fancy, but chocolate recipes are his absolute favorites.

"Once a great witch, she's now the town doctor. Marian's unpredictable antics keep her busy."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"The town doctor, formerly a renowned witch. Her apothecary has seen a sharp decline in patients since her granddaughter took over, and so she spends her days relaxing."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Marian

Marian's grandmother. She runs the town apothecary that sells staves, magic books, and medicine. Unlike her granddaughter, she uses magic to cure people instead of medicine.
  • Black Bead Eyes: The only character to have these, oddly enough.
  • Blush Sticker: Her portrait has these symbolizing her more cheerful nature compared to Wells' grumpiness.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Marjorie is one of the few people in Sharance that can open the Dragon Cave. She requires aid of someone from the Univir Settlement, however.
  • Feeling Their Age: She has a hard time keeping up with Marian's antics and is very aware of her advanced age.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Still wears her hair like this.
  • Meaningful Gift: Colored grasses are always a nice gift for her since she uses them in her medicines. Relax Tea Leaves is her loved gift since it helps with her sleeping issues.
  • Miniature Senior Citizens: She is half the size of the main character.
  • Never My Fault: Despite being the cause of Marian's hatred of tomatoes, she never owned up to it because she never wanted Marian to stop viewing her as the "greatest witch ever".
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Marian loved tomatoes as a child, so she gave her a medicine that would enhance her senses towards them. It worked too well and now Marian gets nauseous if she so much as smells a tomato.
  • Parental Substitute: She's one to Marian who's also been training under her to become a full-fledged witch.
  • Racist Grandma: Averted; she admits to Kuruna that she used to hate the Univir, but once she gets to meet them, she has no prejudices.
  • Senior Sleep-Cycle: Mentions to Micah he should close his eyes when thinking... That way nobody will realize you've fallen asleep.
  • Witch Classic: Compared to Marian she's this. Witch attire, big cauldron and flying brooms included.

    Sherman

Sherman de Sainte-Coquille (JP: Donchachos Harapenyo Viviaaju)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/donchacos.png
Voiced By: Takahiro Fujimoto (JP), Ethan Murray (EN, Special)

"An arrogant glutton who's amassed a vast fortune. Speaks in opposites."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A wealthy gentleman who always says just the opposite of what he means. Accordingly, despite what he may say, he loves food more than anything else."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Sofia, Evelyn

The patriarch of the local branch of the De Saint-Coquille family. Like his relatives in other parts, is a Big Eater. Unlike his relatives, he has a tendency to say the opposite of what he means.
  • Berserk Button: Ruining his meals is a sure-fire way to upset him. Sofia sometimes mentions how he and Evelyn get in squabbles because Evenlyn accidentally wastes some of his food.
  • Big Eater: He's as much of a glutton as you'd expect and people often say he's one of the top contenders to win the Eating Festival. Sherman is a lightly deconstructed example (surprisingly enough) as Evelyn, concerned about his health, had put him on a diet because of this, much to his distress.
  • Big Fun: Sherman is a pretty swell guy who's almost always in a good mood.
  • Brutal Honesty: Not on the same level of Sofia, but Sherman's opposite speak sometimes let him slide some prickly truths in his dialogues.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Averted. For a series that's known for all characters to have quirks in their food preferences, the only thing Sherman detests are those he cannot eat like ores and trash.
  • Faux Horrific: Treats being put on a diet as the end of the world.
  • Fiction 500: Like almost every de Saint-Coquille family branch he has an untold amount of money, best symbolized by the huge manor he lives at. The only building comparable to it is the local inn.
  • The Gadfly: Unlike Sofia, he has no reason for his opposite speak other than he found it hilarious that people believe the lie.
  • Gonk: As usual for the patron of De Saint-Coquille families.
  • Hidden Depths: Sherman is more than the carefree glutton he makes himself to be. Inspecting his desk in his room makes Micah note there's a lot of complicated annotations there and if Sherman's in the room he'll say how he's looking forward to the development of the town implying he's a investor and takes care of very complicated finances.
  • Informed Flaw: In-game description mentions him as being arrogant, but in his dialogue he rarely, if ever, acts condescending towards anyone. Sherman is demanding when it comes to cooking, however. The "arrogant" bit is not mentioned in his description of Special remaster.
  • It Runs in the Family: He basically auto-translates Sofia's quirky speech due to being an opposite talker himself.
  • Obliquely Obfuscated Occupation: Sherman's role in Sharance is largely unknown. He's a patron of Blaise and gets what some of the festivals need to be done. Inspecting his room shows that he makes a lot of plans to attract visitors to Sharance as well.
  • Obsessed with Food: To the point he has no disliked cooked foods.
  • Opposite Day: Has the strange habit of swapping the meaning of his words every now and then.
  • Purple Prose: Prone to this. Combine it with his opposite speaking quirk and you have a recipe for hilariously confusing conversations.
  • Rainbow Speak: The words with flipped meaning will be colored red.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Downplayed, but compared to Sofia, Sherman's vocabulary is more flowery and refined... Especially when he peppers his dialogue with his opposites.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fried Sand Flounder is his absolute favorite, but Sherman is unique in that any cooked food will please him.
  • Uncle Pennybags: Keeping with the tradition of previous games, he's by far the richest person in town. One of his early requests will grant you a pretty penny for early game too.
  • Weight Woe: Sherman himself doesn't worry, but Evelyn does and it's due to health concerns on top of that she's put him on a diet.

"A misguided fashionista who'll use anything for an outfit... and we do mean ANYTHING."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A designer with a passion for fashion, though with decidedly, uh, unique sensibilities that may alienate the general public. Destined to one day be labeled avant-garde."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: Sofia, Sherman

Sherman's daughter and Sofia's elder sister. She traveled the world and gained many ideas on fashion, some of which are a bit odd. She sells clothing and furniture on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • Cool Big Sis: She worries a lot about Sofia and her habit of speaking in opposites and more than once tries to make her control herself or at least tone it down a bit.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Like her sister and every daughter of de-Saint Coquille family before her Evenly has royal colorings for her eyes and hair, a stronger shade of purple compared to Sofia's.
  • The Fashionista: She loves fashion and makes her own designs.
  • Hidden Depths: Evelyn is much more responsible than she lets on. She worries a lot about her father and one of Sofia's requests reveals she always casts anti-poisoning spells on Blaise's food— not only for her father's health but to also ensure Blaise's innocence in the unlikely case of an incident.
  • It Runs in the Family: Averted for the opposite speaking thing. In fact it bugs Evelyn to the point she futilely tries to make both of them to stop or at very least dial it down.
  • Lady of War: The eldest daughter of De Sainte-Coquille family in Sharance and quite capable of fighting alongside you.
  • Mad Artist: She makes fashions out of vegetables and fish, and apparently doesn't know what to do with Wooly wool. People talk about giving her fish on her birthday for this purpose. While she's a bit more normal than her family, she's still really weird in her own way.
  • Magic Staff: Wields them when fighting in your party.
  • Non-Idle Rich: Evelyn is the local fashionista and has a shop where she sells different clothes to Micah. She's often seeing working and looking for new designs as well. Her shop also sells furniture for Micah's house too.
  • Not So Above It All: Evelyn will eventually confess that one of the reasons she makes her clothes the way they are is due to a small fear of being overshadowed by her own family quirkiness.
  • The Not-Love Interest: Despite being yet another cute single girl, she isn't available as a bachelorette.
  • Only Sane Woman: Crazy fashion aside, she's the only member of De-Sainte Coquille family in Sharance that doesn't speak in opposites. Seeing Sofia and Sherman arguing is opposites is enough to drive even her crazy. On a more serious note when Sherman and Sofia end up arguing with Sofia running away from home it's Evelyn who calms her father down while she asks for Micah to do the same for Sofia.
  • Shared Family Quirks: Evelyn has a good eye for business and she's a good saleswoman (despite her wacky fashion sense), something she shares with Sofia, who also has a good deal of shopkeeping knowledge.
  • Spoiled Sweet: A very good-natured girl who gets along well with everyone despite being of high status.
  • Status Infliction Attack: As a party member Evely will throw her sewing pins that can Paralyze enemies.
  • Supreme Chef: Implied. Sherman thinks highly of her cooking and he has very high standards for food. At the end of some festivals Sherman or Sofia muses that she'll cook up a storm for her father.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Like Sofia, Evelyn is very cute and bears no resemblance whatsoever to her pudgy and cartoony father.
  • Wacky Parent, Serious Child: It's Evelyn that's been reining her father Big Eater tendencies for the sake of his health.

Desert Settlement Residents

    Ondorus

Ondorus (JP: Ondolfa)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ondolfa.png
Voiced By: Daisuke Matsubara (JP), Stephen Fu (EN, Special)

"A univir who has been friends with Kuruna for decades. He loves reading books about almost any subject."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A surviving member of he univir race. Incredibly knowledgeable and a voracious reader, he does all he can to support Kuruna."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: None

One of the horned people. A powerful magician, he seeks Micah's help in bringing together the people of Sharance and the Monster Settlement.
  • Bookworm: There really isn't a lot to do in the desert apart from reading books.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: His expertise doesn't come into play until the final dungeon when he, with Marjorie's help, opens the Dragon Cave so Micah can rescue his bride.
  • Childhood Friends: With Kuruna.
  • Facial Markings: Wears green symbols on his cheeks and forehead to protect him from the sun.
  • Informed Ability: He's supposedly a powerful magician but unfortunately, he can't be taken into dungeons. He is capable of using magic powerful enough to unseal the Dragon Cave, something that tires out even Marjorie, an elderly, but experienced witch.
  • Non-Action Guy: Can't accompany Micah into dungeons.
  • Older Than They Look: Just as old as Kuruna.
  • Pointy Ears: A univir trait. He theorizes that univir and elves have a common ancestor because of it.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's only a year younger than Kuruna in Univir years, which is 20 human years.
  • Rule of Cool: The cape doesn't actually protect him from the desert heat, he just wears it because his favorite hero from a childhood story wore one.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Juices of any kind make for a good gift for Ondorus.
  • The Smart Guy: His passion for reading made him very knowledgeable.
  • Stoic Spectacles: His glasses makes Ondorus look stoic and distant, he is anything but. Micah even wonders if glasses, poor eyesight, is more common in univir than it is in humans, Ondorus merely says that him and Kuruna needing them is a coincidence.

"A brash and headstrong dwarf. He's proud of his clan's silver eyes, and brags about them to everyone."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3

"A boisterous dwarf who resides in the monster settlement. Tends to look down (figuratively) on newcomers. His silver eyes are a marker of his dwarven heritage."
— Character description in Rune Factory 3 Special

Family: None

A resident of the Monster Settlement. He's a young dwarf with cat-like eyes and markings who also enjoys fighting.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: He's very confident in his fighting abilities and makes no effort to hide how proud of it he is to the point of boasting and even calling Micah weak at times.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: His Hot-Blooded personality extends to how he fights alongside you: Zaid will charge like a berserker into the fray with little regard for his safety. Expect to see him getting knocked out a lot unless you're as crazy as him in combat.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: His silver eyes are his pride and joy because the people of his clan were well known for having silver eyes.
  • Fantastic Racism: He initially does not like humans after humans destroyed his clan's settlement.
  • Foil: Holy moly is he one to Gaius. Zaid is a complete opposite of Gaius in terms of personality being an impatient dwarf who likes to act first and think never.
  • Hopeless Suitor: He has a crush on Kuruna, but she only views him as a comrade.
  • Hot-Blooded: There's not a moment Zaid isn't fired up to do something. Except fishing, which in the "Catch Most Fish Festival" he wanted to fish using rocks, Ondorus has to ask him not to stir up trouble in Sharance.
  • I Call It "Vera": He names his sword "Mr. Slicer."
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Local equivalent. His AI only has this type of mode, making him really easy to faint. And Micah basically has an Escort Mission with him required by the story early on.
  • No Indoor Voice: He has two volumes: hammy and loud.
  • Odd Friendship: Zaid and Ondorus are as different as day and night, but still get along pretty well. They hang out during festivals after the Unity Festival as well.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Averted AND Lampshaded by him.
  • Rugged Scar: Has one on his cheek.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He looooves to brag about his muscles and silver eyes.
  • Trash of the Titans: Sometimes Kuruna has a request that has you helping him clean a huge mess in his room.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Udon. He'll ocasionally pester Micah to cook him one for him.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He can fight insect monsters like the Hercules Beetle and Killer Ant just fine, but normal insects? He runs.

Others

    Aquaticus (Unmarked Spoilers)

Aquaticus (JP: Akhnabet)

The Native Dragon God of Water.
  • Continuity Nod: His clone's favorite item in Rune Factory 4 is Union Stew, referencing his goal of uniting humans and monsters.
  • The Chooser of the One: He is the one who choose Micah in order to restore peace between the humans of Sharance and the univir of the Sol Terrano Desert. He specifically picked Micah due to his kind nature and hybrid heritage, although at the end of the game he reveals he wasn't certain this would work.
  • Dragons Are Divine: Like Terrable and Fiersome before him, Aquaticus is a Native Dragon who holds a massive amount of power. He guards the lands surrounding Sharance and he's the one responsible for the entire plot happening.
  • Final Boss: In 3 he is the last enemy that must be fought in order to finish the story.
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Almost. Aquacticus is never mentioned save in one small random dialogue piece with Ondorus and it's not even related to the story. Players from previous games could probably guess, maybe even expect, his appearance.
  • Hidden Villain: The bosses of the other dungeons held orbs containing Micah's memories, and the Dragon Ruins has statues of those bosses. It's implied that they were serving under Aquaticus.
  • I Let You Win: His postgame boss fight in the Sharance Maze implies that his climactic fight against Micah in the story was him holding back.
  • Infodump: Once he's defeated he takes his time to explain the entire plot of the game: why he brought Micah to Sharance and the huge importance of mending the relationship between humans and monsters to make the Sharance Tree flowers bloom.
  • Making a Splash: Naturally with him being the Native Dragon of Water and all that. His most dangerous attacks are of water element.
  • Promoted to Playable: His clone, Aquameleon, is a tameable monster in Rune Factory 4.
  • Secret Test of Character: After Micah rescues his fiancée from Aquaticus, the Native Dragon God apologizes for robbing his memories and stranding him in Sharance, and offers to restore his last memory and send him back to his homeland (with the implication that he will leave his fiancée behind). Micah's refusal is what finally allows the Sharance Tree to bloom, and it's implied that Micah will never get that memory back as proof of his vow.
  • Walking Spoiler: His appearance kicks off the finale.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He stole Micah's memories, and later his fiancée, as part of his plan to make the Sharance Tree bloom; if it withered away, the land would die with it.
