Protagonists

    Damian Wayne (Robin V)
"So... would you rather take me on one at a time... or all at once?"

The biological son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul. Secretly raised as an assassin for the first 10 years of his life, Damian eventually became Robin, under the tutelage of then-Batman, Dick Grayson. After his father's resurrection, Damian worked with his father and the rest of the Bat-Family. In terms of the wider superhero community, Damian started a team of Teen Titans after the "death" of Tim Drake, as well as a superhero duo alongside Jonathan Kent, the Super Sons.

At the beginning of the series, Damian is disillusioned with the ideals of his father and superheroes. He has cut ties with the Teen Titans and Bat-Family, going off on his own to investigate the League of Lazarus.

For all tropes applying to Damian, see Robin: Damian Wayne.

Tropes applying to Damian as he appears in Robin (2021):

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Flatline. They argue and tease each other a lot, and Rose Wilson tells Damian that he shouldn't fall in love with the first girl to kill him when she notices him looking at her. When Talia says she doesn't like Flatine, Damian says he doesn't care, because he does.
  • Commonality Connection:
    • He and Connor bond over having absentee superhero fathers with similar methods and equipment.
    • Damian and Flatline share a love of manga, which is how she eventually gets him to open up.
  • The Runaway: Damian's status at the start of this series, as he's fled Gotham.
  • Tyke Bomb: Once he learns that Lazarus Island resurrects those who are killed, he's ecstatic that he can use his League of Assassins training to its fullest. He eviscerates several other contestants the second he finds out about the resurrections.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: From issues #8-10.

    Rose Wilson (Ravager II)
"Keep Deathstroke out of this."

The daughter of Slade Wilson and Lily Worth, a Hmong prostitute. Slade deliberately tries to distance himself from Rose due to realising his terrible influence on her, instead wanting her to grow up happy and normal — relatively speaking. She's been trained by Dick Grayson and partly by Slade himself. In contrast to her father, who works as an assassin, Rose works in security. She stops contract killings and is also a bouncer.

Rose's relationship with her father is complicated. She simultaneously hates his manipulation of her and his twisted way of controlling her life, while also wanting his approval and love, modelling herself after him despite the protests of everyone around her. Rose inherited an aspect of her father's super soldier serum, with her brain being able to take in information around her at a rapid pace to create a mostly accurate image of what it thinks may happen next — essentially a form of precognition. She joins the tournament to learn about Respawn, a fighter who has modelled himself after her father.

For all tropes applying to Rose, see Deathstroke

Tropes applying to Rose as she appears in Robin (2021):

  • It's Personal: She has a bone to pick with Respawn for co-opting her dad's look.
  • Mrs. Exposition: She's the character who explains the entire tournament to Damian.
  • Parental Issues: Damian jokes that she didn't list herself amongst the five big threats on the island, and that Slade gave her self-esteem that low. She tells him to keep Slade out of it. It's also implied that he is her reason for entering the tournament at all.
  • Secret-Keeper: Rose eventually does learn Respawn's identity, but keeps it a secret because, whoever he is, it a lot of people would come after him if they knew he were around.
  • Wild Card: She's not here to win the tournament, unlike everyone else there. Instead, she's looking for... something. We eventually learn that her precognition isn't working and is just showing her darkness, and she was trying to force it to work again.

Other Contestants

    Nika (Flatline)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7879983_flatline.jpg
"I'll put away my knives if you do, Robin."

The teenage sidekick of Lord Death Man, a villain from Batman's early days who can perfectly simulate death.

Flatline fights Damian in the inaugural fight on Lazarus Island. She rips his heart out and he does not take this well once he comes back to life. However, Flatline seems more than willing to be friendly with Damian.

Flatline has absorbed the knowledge of dead fighters' defeats and learned from them. This makes her just as skilled as Damian, if not more so.

  • Affably Evil: She's sidekick to a Card-Carrying Villain but is quite pleasant to Damian and wants to be "frienemies"... after she murders him.
  • Beat Still, My Heart: A move she perfected after training with Lord Death Man. This makes sense, given she was apparently sent by him to get Damian's heart.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Damian. They argue and tease each other a lot, but Flatline calls Damian cute and wants to be frenemies with him. After they kiss, it becomes more apparent, with Damian admitting he likes Flatline.
  • Creepy Child: Even as a young girl she was very obsessed with death, which isolated her from her family, who saw her as weird.
  • Given Name Reveal: In issue #11, she tells Damian her first name: Nika.
  • Fangirl: Mentions Talia al Ghul is her idol.
  • Kid Sidekick: A villainous example, being the sidekick to Lord Death Man. The League of Lazarus is the first time she's not been supervised by him.
  • Like a Daughter to Me: Lord Death Man thought of her as his daughter and tells the League of Lazarus as much... only to immediately hand her over to them anyway.
Flatline: Did I do well, Lord Death Man?
Lord Death Man: I am so very proud of you, Flatline. You are the child I never wanted to have. Now byeeee.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: When her powers manifested for the first time, her hair and skin turned bone white.
  • Soviet Super Science: Not herself being the result of this but her grandfather, who was experimented on by the KGB in his youth, which is how he developed the powers Flatline would inherit.

    The Hawke
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8049383_screenshot2021_07_01at84004pm.png
"They found me when no one else could. Or would. Helped me. Retrained me. Gave me purpose."

A mysterious martial artist working for the League of Shadows. He is considered one of the biggest threats on the island and was brought in by the League of Shadows to deal with Damian.

For all tropes applying to him, see Green Arrow.

  • Animal Theme Naming: The League of Shadows is apparently using an animal motif when referring to him, saying that to kill a Robin, they need a Hawke.
  • The Bus Came Back: After being rebooted from existence in 2011. He mentions a bright light, which is what everyone who was retconned away saw, and then waking up lost and alone, later being found by the League of Shadows.
  • Commonality Connection: He and Damian bond over having absentee superhero fathers with similar methods and equipment.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The reader knows that Connor Hawke is the last person to be murdering people. It's the why of it that is the question. However, for the actual characters, they don't know who Connor is, so he's just a mysterious assassin to them.

    Respawn
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/7934067_respawn.jpg
A contestant who has modelled himself after Deathstroke for reasons unknown. A big reason Rose Wilson entered the tournament is to learn who he is.
  • Cain and Abel: He's the Cain. With Rose and Damian both as Abel, although he only managed to kill Rose during the Lazarus tournament.
  • Chain Pain: Fights with a chain with a blade attached to it.
  • Costume Copycat: He uses a costume that resembles that of Deathstroke, which annoys Slade's daughter Rose.
  • Clone Angst: He's a hybrid clone of Slade Wilson and Talia al Ghul, and was treated poorly as a test subject and organ doner.
  • Dramatic Unmask: He shows his face to Rose Wilson during issue #11, but his face is turned away from the reader, meaning only Rose can see him. It does reveal he has white hair.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: His eyes are colored green, the same as his genetic donor Talia al Ghul.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Sacrifices himself by protecting Slade from a rain of bullets by several League ninjas.
  • It's Personal: The reason why Rose is going after him? He took the gear and costume of her late brother Grant Wilson.
  • Mysterious Past: All that's known is that he's modeled himself off Deathstroke. We later learn he has white hair, and even later that his equipment comes from a storehouse of Grant Wilson... that nobody outside the Wilson family should know about. He eventually reveals his identity to Rose, and she knows who he is, and that his identity needs to be kept secret or people would come after him.
  • Never Given a Name: Due to his status as a Walking Transplant for Damian, he was never given an actual name, Respawn being how he decided to call himself.
  • The Resenter: He grew up hating Damian for having what he considered a happy and idyllic life, although he's gotten over it by the time his backstory is actually revealed, having gotten to know the guy a little better.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Without the mask it's revealed he looks a lot like Damian, his sort of half-brother, but with Deathstroke's skin tone and white hair.
  • Walking Transplant: For Damian.
