    In General
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Nearly all of their battles are complete victories with casualties in the single digits. Even when the deaths start climbing, they simply regroup, upgrade, and outmaneuver their foes.
  • More Dakka: Most of their weaponry is geared towards firing more bullets at various ranges, to ensure that the majority of fighters never get within stabbing range.
  • Schizo Tech: M1 Gerands with blunderbuss sidearms, machine gun turrets mixed with cannons,
  • Undying Loyalty: To Roland and Neverwinter, for giving them a job when the rest of Graycastle meant for them to starve to death with their families.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: If they can see it, they can kill it, but stealth assassins and mental-based witches get through the army with almost no resistance. Luckily, the witches have their own ways of detecting spies in the crowd.

High Command

    Iron Axe

"That Creature Has Come!"
The most senior member of First Army.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Being tan-skinned shows he's not a native of Bordertown, but from the Sand Nation.
  • Blood Knight: Iron Axe gets really excited when witnessing a new weapons demonstration, likening bombs with the wrath of gods.
  • Break Them by Talking: He's got an interrogation technique so effective, he can get even the most haughty of criminals to confess, without leaving a single mark on their bodies.
  • Exposed to the Elements: Wears his normal desert outfit in snow. Barov calls out on this, to which Iron Axe responds that "real men do not fear wind and snow".
  • Four-Star Badass: He is one of the First Army's best soldiers and was made the leader of the First Army.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: He was often seen as an outcast due to his mixed ancestry before being recruited by Roland.
  • Implausible Deniability: His cover-story for what happened to the Red City P.O.W. "nobles" doesn't hold water, but nobody dares call him out on it.
  • Kill It with Fire: When he conquers Red City, and learns the nobles there literally treated the citizens like cattle (up to and including putting human meat in cold storage), he sets the dungeon they're in on fire, and lets them burn to death. Roland finds this "too soft" when he reads the unedited report.
  • Old Soldier: He was a warrior in the Sand Nation, and is a warrior in First Army. He's also over 30.
  • Scars Are Forever: A prominent one across the face.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Roland and Echo. The former because he trusted someone like him despite being of mixed ancestry, and the latter because she is the daughter of the man who previously accepted him back in the Sand Nation.

    Brian

    Va'ner
A downtrodden commoner looking to improve himself, but having no opportunity... until Prince Roland came along. He now serves as Artillery Battalion commander.
  • Ideal Hero: Honest, hard-working, humble, and trustworthy.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Roland.
  • What You Are in the Dark: When offered a bribe by Duke Gerhardt's men to turn away while they sabotaged Border Town's food supply, he raised the alarm, even at risk to his life.
