Go To

    In General
  • Always Chaotic Evil: As revealed by the interrogation of Kabradhabi, coexistence is impossible, not just in terms of biology but ideology. Demons are so convinced that they're the proper dominant species, with everything else being "crawling bugs", that they'll exterminate any non-demon race on sight.
    • This wasn't always the case, as humans and demons, and the other two races by extension, used to co-exist prior to the "First Battle of Divine Will" as revealed by the Nightmare Lord Valkries, with her own teacher and herself being a member of a predominantly human organization called Cloud School.
  • Cannibalism Super Power: Demons can get stronger by defeating and consuming each other.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Their tech can only be used by those who can use magic, as opposed to Roland's tech, which can be used by anyone who knows how.
  • Deadly Upgrade: When Demons are exposed to magic stones, they either evolve into stronger demons, or die a Cruel and Unusual Death.
  • Fantastic Racism: They are extremely racist towards witches and humans.
  • Godzilla Threshold: The Demons' confrontation against Graycastle's forces have deteriorated to the point that they had to give away ground against the Deep Sea Demons for a bulk of forces of the Eastern Front to assist and use their superweapon.
  • Humans Are Insects: They view humans as nothing more than pests to be eliminated. When they clash with First Army and face a genuine challenge, they're enraged beyond reason that "crawling bugs" could actually fight them on near-equal footing.
  • I Lied: They promise to spare "commoners" if witches are handed over for torture and execution. These promises are hollow.
  • Keystone Army: Not only will they wither and die if cut off from their supply of Red Mist, but when their commanders are neutralized, the Mad Demon troops degenerate into mindless feral beasts.
  • Oh, Crap!: When they realize that they're on the losing end of a battle, they're always shocked with mouths agape.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: Their tech can only be operated by those who can manipulate magic, either themselves or witches.
  • Organic Technology: Their machines and vehicles are both powered by magic and made entirely of parts coming from "Demonic Beasts".
  • Powers as Programs: Their abilities are determined by the magic stones they consume.
  • Salt the Earth: Unintentionally. When they build a camp by pumping Red Mist into the soil, said mist kills everything in that soil.
  • Technologically Advanced Foe: Compared to anyone but Roland, they're centuries ahead. Roland's tech is capable of beating them, but it's damn close.
  • Uplifted Animal: Implied. When Roland examines the memories of a demon captured by Zero's Soul Battle, Roland sees a ritual where beasts assume humanoid shape after being exposed to magic stones.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: They need some magic imbued Red Mist in order to breathe. Without it, they wither and die. If not for that, humanity would have been rendered extinct centuries ago...
  • What Is Evil?: Upon learning that they're named "Demons" and understanding this term is the very embodiment of evil, they're insulted, not because they resent being identified as "evil," but because they're being judged by "crawling bugs" whose opinions of morality don't matter.
  • You Will Be Spared: They promise to spare "commoners". This is a complete lie.
  • Zerg Rush: Demons can and will use their massive numbers just achieve a breakthrough against Graycastle's forces in Wolfheart. They eventually achieve Victory by Endurance though at a massive cost of manpower.

    The Demon Lord
Undisputed King of the Demons.
  • The Ghost: He's constantly referred to by various demons, but never shows up in-story. Mostly because he governs in the demon capital instead of taking to the field.

    Kabradhabi
A senior demon who was captured by Graycastle's forces.
  • Break the Haughty: When he realizes that the "insects" he despises and looks down on can effectively combat his kind.

    Ursrook
The commander of the Western Front and a disciple of Hackzord.

    Valkries/Nightmare Lord
A Lord and one of the first demons to ever upgrade.
  • Captured Super-Entity: While using her dream powers, she finds herself in Roland's Dream World...and to her horror, she has no way out.
  • Fish out of Water: Being in Roland's Dream World and seeing that she could obtain knowledge that she can bring to her kind, she tries to become a spy in the world for some time. But as she's a demon without any knowledge of Roland's Dream World at all, Roland and even a Dream World's citizen is suspicious of her (the former already know the existence of the demons, the latter found her behavior like reading books instead of using a smartphone odd), causing her to be caught without being able to make any sort of plan.
  • Heel–Face Turn: She joins Roland's side after she is discovered and she realizes can't go back to the real world again.
  • Survivor Guilt: Captured in Roland's Dream World, she fells guilty as her kin is at war with her captor's army while she is comfortably living as a resident.
  • Weak, but Skilled: She is not as strong as other upgraded demons but is far more knowledgeable about the process than anyone else. She helps other demons upgrade, making her a respected figure.

    Hackzord/Sky Lord
A Lord and the overseer and commander of the Western Front after Ursrook's defeat.

    Mask
A Lord who experiments on improving himself and other demons by literally altering their bodies.
  • Mad Scientist: He really only cares about his experiments and what he can get from them.
