Itsuki Kitazuka

”How stupid. So, in other words...You chose to give up your future and embrace a past life because your current incarnation is really weak? How do I put this? When you've given everything to your previous incarnation...don't you truly become a failure yourself?”

Best friend of Touya’s brother Seiya and a surrogate older brother to Touya himself. Unlike Returners, Itsuki is a genuine modern genius and a powerful martial artist who has been leading a JSDF's special unit since he was young. Itsuki's unit - the Black Edge - is investigating the Branches of Resurrection and Returners.

  • Anti-Hero
  • Badass Normal: He is no Returner, but manages to disarm Haito's attack easily and could even break her legs if he so desired.
  • Bunny Ear Lawyer: Leader of the Self-Defense Force Black Edge unit, who first appears as a perverted, easygoing goofball with a favor for some risque magazines in free time. Once he gets into the job however, he’s incredibly serious and pragmatic.
  • Family of Choice: Becomes Touya’s surrogate older brother following Seiya’s death.
  • Fantastic Racism: He hates Returners and its powers in general, and was disappointed in Touya for becoming one. After the Returners - lead by Neumann under Nightingale’s brainwashing - start to reveal their true, insidious plan to the world, Itsuki perceives them as enemies, even Touya as he becomes harsh on him and has no hesitation to punish him if he starts acting strange. Though the harshness is mostly a facade to keep his men’s morale in check.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite some of his unscruplous acts and amoral personality, he remains a heroic character with lots of positive traits on him. He tries to keep his subordinate’s morale in check in face of crisis, fights for the sake of humanity and has a genuinely cordial relationship with his friend Seiya even though he was suspicious of Seiya's abnormal competence. And while his Fantastic Racism can sometimes get the better of him, he still cares for Touya and regrets on burdening him with the mission on eradicating several Returners.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: His harshness towards Touya is to keep his men’s morale in check because they (and he himself) still perceive the Returners as the enemy.
