The Saotome Home

     As a group
  • Beware the Nice Ones: As a whole they are noble and understanding and look to offer help to those in need. They are also all too happy to unload their collective magical power on anyone that tries to push them too far.
  • Family of Choice: They all regard each other as family, no matter their connections to anyone else.
  • Forgiveness: Shampoo, Ukyou and Mousse are all guilty of mistreating Ranma in the past. They ultimately wind up as part of the family after proving they've moved beyond their old ways.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Almost the entire group is a step short of being a classic and noble superhero. They are also willing inflict karmic, almost sadistic punishments on anyone who truly proves there is no reasoning with them.
  • Ms. Fanservice: All of the girls in the house are considered gorgeous.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Outside of Magix they tend to serve as this. Nearly everyone is a magic or ki user or is both at once which always takes the various problems they encounter by surprise. In Nerima there are mostly varying martial artists with an occasional bit of magic or other unexplainable abilities, which the Saotome Household can stomp into the ground with little issue through their magic. Beyond Nerima they prove this with even those who have far more dealings with magic are taken by surprise either because the Saotome Home uses Wrong Context Magic or are just more skilled, more powerful or more innovative with their magic then the people they're interacting with are accustomed to.
  • Quirky Household: Oh where to start. Ranma is half-human and half-faerie while having six souls to make up his own, his mother is a Retired Badass faerie in her own right, the Winx are powerful faeries with half of them being royalty, Shampoo and Ukyou are lycanthropes while the rest have standard Jusenkyo curses. The only member who is close to normal is Cologne, a Chinese Amazon who's dealt with magic before. And doesn't that say everything.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Ranma, Kasumi and Sasuke get a warm and accepting home after years of undeserved grief.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: The girls to Ranma, who gender inverts it by being just the same to them.

     Ranma Saotome
The main character.
  • Berserk Button: Trying to hurt any of the Winx girls. Or showing any amorous intentions towards them, especially after they make it clear they're taken. Ranma is fully willing to kill anyone that takes things this far.
    • It's also heavily advised to not insult or flirt with his mother. Ranma will at least make an effort to not jump straight to a beatdown when it happens with the Winx. He'll go straight for the violent approach if anyone tries it with Nodoka.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Owing to him being a good deal more noble in this story Ranma is much closer to this than to his usual Jerk with a Heart of Gold characterization. He embraces his usual ideals of nobility as a martial artist but is completely unrestrained against those who deserve it.
  • Character Development: Ranma starts to make peace with his curse form after going to Alfea.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Ranma was already a gifted martial artist who edged into this territory with his use of Ki Attacks. Then he discovered magical powers as a result of his half-faerie heritage.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: His mother Nodoka is actually a faerie, making Ranma part-human, part-faerie. He always makes sure to clarify this is the case when someone inquires about his faerie heritage.
  • Me's a Crowd: Ranma can summon the Specialists' souls as an extension of himself. He also has the power to clone himself temporarily.
  • Not So Above It All: Ranma Took a Level in Kindness but he still has some of his vengeful streak that comes out when he meets someone that really crossed a line with him.
  • Reincarnation: Ranma's soul is made up of those of the Specialists after their Heroic Sacrifice. It's a bit unusual because Ranma is his own person while their souls still maintain their own individuality while living inside of him and are fully regarded as their own beings at the same time.
  • Second Love: Ranma becomes this for all of the Winx girls, owing to being the reincarnation of all of the Specialists souls after they made a Heroic Sacrifice to save them from Valtor.
  • Shout-Out: To Jojos Bizarre Adventure due to the Specialists Souls used like Stands and named accordingly.
    Platinum Sky
    Diamond Brandon
    Gold Helia
    Onyx Riven
    Silver Timmy
    Amethyst Nabu
  • Superpower Lottery: Being a half-human, half-faerie that's the reincarnation of six well trained warriors definitely has some benefits.
    • Elemental Powers: Ranma can call on different types of elemental magic, not unlike his mother.
    • Equippable Ally: As of chapter 57 Ranma can cause the Winx girls to transform into armor that gives him the ability to use their powers.
    • Fighting Spirit: Ranma can summon the souls of the Specialists to help him in battle or for training. They're invisible to anyone who lacks magic. Unfortunately Synchronization is in effect so they all feel the damage the other suffers. This also means Ranma is vulnerable to attacks that affect the soul.
    • Ki Attacks: He still has his Moko Takabisha and his control over ki has only improved.
    • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Can combine the Specialists weapons into hybird forms that give him even more combat options.
    • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Ranma has learned how to change between his cursed and normal form without the use of water and is so adept at it that he can do so instantly. Water will still trigger his curse but it's no longer a necessity.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Several of the people who made Ranma's life hell suddenly find themselves dealing with the martial artist's wrath now that he's got more than enough power to put anyone in their place and the emotional fortitude to not back down.
  • The Scapegoat: Eventually realizes that the Tendo household had made him into this, continually defaulting into blaming him for things that weren't his fault or remotely in his power to affect. He eventually has enough and tells them he's Stopping the Blame Game.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Ranma really shot up in combat potential when he discovered that he had magic and could mix it in with his fighting skills and Ki Attacks.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Ranma learns and grows as a result of his time with the Winx at Alfea. He's far closer to a Nice Guy with a bit of a sharp mouth towards former tormentors than the Jerk with a Heart of Gold he was in the original series.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Ranma is fairly powerful but his unique constitution as a reincarnation of several souls means that any attacks that directly target the soul are very bad news for him.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Had zero issue with giving Satori one of the most brutal beatings in the story. Justified as the kid was a brat who exploited his mind reading powers to make Ranma miserable out of nothing but jealousy. No one took any issue with Ranma's actions because they knew all too well how badly Satori treated him.

     Nodoka Saotome
Ranma's mother and a powerful faerie in her own right.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: She was spaced out to put it nicely in the original series. She's much more aware here, with it being said that she was fully aware of what was going on with Ranma and the seppuku pledge was a way to keep Genma in line.
  • Berserk Button: Genma has understandably become one to her after everything that he did to Ranma.
  • Elemental Powers: She can tap into several elemental magics in her spells.
  • Foil: To Genma. They are both Ranma's parents and wish him to live up to the aspirations they have for his life. Nodoka is a genuinely loving mother who honestly wishes for her son to live a good life and does all in her power to support him. By contrast Genma thinks he's entitled to abuse Ranma however he wants because he's the boy's father and doesn't care what Ranma wants out of his life, more concerned with his own comfort and benefit over doing right by his son.
  • Hot Teacher: The story emphasizes her beauty in her Enchantix form and even in her default state she's considered lovely.
  • Ki Attacks: Nodoka can use them as well as Ranma can and even teaches a class on it at Alfea.
  • Mama Bear: Her son will live a good and happy life and anyone who tries to disrupt that will see her wrath. The plot gets kickstarted by Nodoka having enough of Ranma's unmerited abuse and deciding to do something about it.
  • Not So Above It All: While much of her behavior in Nerima was an act she is honestly happy with Ranma's manliness.
  • Spell Blade: She can charge her katana with different elemental magics.

     Shampoo
A Chinese Amazon who was once one of Ranma's fiancees.
  • The Atoner: Mildly for her past actions.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Shampoo lacks the magical powers that the Saotomes and the Winx have but she's still a well trained Chinese Amazon. Then she gains the ability to turn into a hybrid version of her curse form that gives her fire abilities.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Give up on her feelings for Ranma after seeing how happy he is with the Winx. This gets rewarded when Ranma returns her feelings.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: Shampoo gains the ability to turn into a hybrid form of her curse, making her a catgirl of sorts.
  • Supreme Chef: She's at least on par with Ukyou for cooking ability.
  • You No Take Candle: As is standard she doesn't have the greatest grasp on the native tongue.

     Ukyou Kuonji
Ranma's childhood friend who was one of Ranma's fiancees.
  • The Atoner: Mildly for her past actions.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Ukyou lacks the magical powers that the Saotomes and the Winx have but she's still a well trained martial arts chef. Then she gains the ability to turn into a hybrid version of her (newly acquired) curse form that gives her fire abilities.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Give up on her feelings for Ranma after seeing how happy he is with the Winx. This gets rewarded when Ranma returns her feelings.
  • Our Werebeasts Are Different: Ukyou gains the ability to turn into a hybrid form of her curse, making her a foxgirl of sorts.
  • Supreme Chef: She's at least on par with Shampoo for cooking ability.

     Mousse
A former rival of Ranma's who hails from the same village as Shampoo and Cologne.
  • Foil: To Ryoga. Both have their lives changed as a result of Ranma leaving the Tendo Dojo and entering the realm of Magix but they differ in how their lives change and how they react to those changes. Mousse gets magical help to correct his eyesight, is able to move past his feelings for Shampoo and find a potential Second Love and becomes a supportive ally to the Saotome family. Ryoga meanwhile is granted magical abilities by Valtor, finds his lot in live made worse especially in light of Akane rejecting him and stays a vicious enemy of Ranma because he blames the pigtailed martial artist for making his life worse than it already was.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Downplayed. He wasn't an out and out villain in canon but he was certainly one of the less scrupulous rivals Ranma had, willing to resort to whatever method he could to triumph over Ranma and was especially willing to sink to depths that even other Combat Pragmatists would be shocked by.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Decides to give up on his feelings for Shampoo, recognizing that she doesn't view him the same way and never will.

The Winx Club

     As a group
  • Adaptational Badass: They were pretty capable in their home series but it gets boosted here. They all learn how to use Ki Attacks and their individual showings in battle are much better to boot.
  • Balanced Harem: They all love Ranma and they all want the chance to be with him. There is none of the quarrelling that Ranma had to deal with from his fiancees.
  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Bloom, Stella, and Flora are the most feminine of the group. Resident tomboys, Musa, Tecna, and Layla are also quite feminine as well (definitely moreso compared to Akane). They all wear outfits baring their shapely stomachs, which is sometimes a source of Distracted by the Sexy.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: They all strive to be kind and helpful fairies who help anyone in need of it. But they have zero issues turning their considerable magical abilities on anyone who deserves it. And while they may not have learned very well from the witches of Cloud Tower they still learned something from there, namely how to cast curses.
  • Fairy Sexy: All fairies and all quite lovely.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: The Winx girls garnered the attentions of the male student body of Furinkan once they enroll. They even have their own individual fanclubs.
  • Hotter and Sexier: There's a lot of focus on their beauty and they tend to wear Fanservice laden costumes when that didn't tend to happen in their home series.
  • Nice Girl: All of them are friendly and kindly, as a good fairy ought be.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: To Ranma. Act the least bit unkindly towards him and you can expect quick and possibly brutal retaliation of the magical kind.

     Bloom
The lost Princess of Domino who is also a fairy of fire and keeper of the Dragon Flame.
  • Aura Vision: Can see the emotions of people via human-shaped auras. It was how she saw that Shampoo and Ukyou were sincere in making peace. It also clued her in that Satori was not the innocent boy he portrays himself to be.
  • Fiery Redhead: Bloom has red hair and possesses fire powers.
  • Playing with Fire: Her element.
  • Redheads Are Ravishing: A beautiful girl with red hair that the Furinkan male students desire.

     Stella
The Princess of Solaria and a fairy of light.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Stella has long blonde hair and is as sweet as can be.
  • Light 'em Up: Her element.
  • Ms. Fanservice: All of the Winx girls take a stab at this but Stella does it more than the rest of them and goes for the most immodest costumes she can find as well.
  • The Power of the Sun: Stella holds light powers in general but she leans more towards solar magic than anything.
  • Proud Beauty: She's hot, she knows it and takes pride in it. In fact she uses vanity as her emotional focus for her Ki Attacks.

     Flora
A fairy of plants
  • Ambiguously Brown: Flora is tan-skinned. She passes herself off as a Brazilian when attending Furinkan.
  • Green Thumb: Her element.
  • Not So Above It All: She's the most pacifistic of the Winx but Kuno pushes her buttons so much that she can't resist being violent.

     Musa
A fairy of sound
  • Dance Battler: Musa is a Fairy of Music who operates on music as her medium. This is also extended when she becomes an armored greave for Ranma, which in turn makes him a dance battler, too.
  • Make Some Noise: Has the power to manipulate sound waves. She uses music as a medium.

     Tecna
A fairy of technology
  • Nightmare Fetishist: She takes an interest in some rather macabre and dark works from Earth, such as Dante's Inferno and Saw.
  • Psychic Block Defense: She can create mental firewalls that block others from reading her mind and can do so for others.
  • Psychic Powers: She has some control over the mind as part of her magic.
  • Shock and Awe: Has some control over electrical energy.
  • Technopath: Officially her element, which connects to other fields.

     Layla
The Princess of Andros and fairy of water

Tendo Dojo

     As a group
  • Entitled Bastard: They all expect Ranma and Kasumi to wait on them and do all of the work without so much as a sliver of gratitude and expect it to stay as such.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Everything they suffer through in the story is the results of their choices and vices coming home to roost.
  • Never My Fault: Any consequences that they have to face as a result of their own actions is never fair or something they actually deserve. After all it's always someone else's fault, namely Ranma, for not agreeing with what they want or trying to do something that they don't want.

     Akane Tendo
The youngest the Tendo children and Ranma's former fiance.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Akane had her faults in canon, namely her temper and refusal to take responsibility for her mistakes, but she still was a sweet girl underneath her vices. Here she has next to no redeeming qualities.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Akane does everything by pouring all of her power into whatever she's doing. This let's her throw around decent hits but she's pretty bad anything else. She doesn't have the endurance to really take hits. She burns through stamina extremely quickly because she's using up everything she's got. She has next to no control which costs her during the cooking competition as she wastes ingredients by going overboard in trying to prep them.
  • Fatal Flaw: Akane has quite a few character failings that are directly responsible for making her life worse every time she acts on them.
    • Her temper. Akane is set off very easily, even flying off the rails with no one provoking her. Bad enough but goes straight for violence, threats and insults whenever she feels slighted, no matter if anyone actually meant to set her off or not. Her tendency to think she's always in the right and to reject any ideas that she holds any fault don't help this.
    • Her pride. Akane doesn't hold an elevated view of herself and avoids any Small Name, Big Ego behavior (even her horrid cooking is based more in stubbornness than arrogance) but what she does consider important she puts a lot of pride in. As much as she hates the Hentai Horde's actions she does appreciate that they find her attractive and is angered to lose their attention. She also refuses to accept her errors as a chef and won't change the methods that cause her problems because she thinks her cooking is better than it actually is. A big part of why she [Can't Take Criticism is because she's too proud to admit she could make mistakes to start with.
    • Her refusal to take responsibility for her actions. Whenever faced with actually having to deal with the consequences she brings on herself Akane will shift the blame and lash out instead of heed the criticism. Not helping is that her pride treats even slight criticism as a personal attack and her temper makes her escalate situations into violence.
    • Her impatience. Whenever Akane gets an idea in her head she acts on it right away with no further thought. A lot of her efforts at attacking someone are usually just because she got mad and wanted to hit something with no further plan. A big part of why she's such a Lethal Chef is that she doesn't have the patience to wait for necessary steps and decides to throw things in without much care just because she gets an impulse. This is bad because her temper means Akane is likely to lash out the second something sets her off and said anger is likely to make her throw everything she's got with no regard to what she'll need later.
  • Glass Cannon: Akane's saving grace in a fight is the power she can throw behind her hits. She's absolutely poor at taking hits though and can get knocked out with little trouble.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Three times in the story Akane is faced with consequences for letting her rotten temper get the better of her that she doesn't just shrug off but instead seems to think over; only to return to form shortly after.
  • Offended by an Enemy's Indifference: When Ranma convinces most of Akane's admirers to move on from her by pointing out that there are other girls they could get with, Akane feels upset that most of the guys are no longer interested in her since while she was annoyed by their persistence, she also took pride in the fact that so many guys wanted to be with her.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Thanks to her temper and lack of awareness she winds up insulting both Nodoka and Kasumi, who are far from happy with her attitude.
