    Dragon Keepers in General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/thedragonkeepers.jpg
"We are...the Dragon Keepers!"

The 5 Dragon Keepers who protect Earth from the alien Invaders of the Evil Kaijin Army. Following the defeat of the Evil Kaijin Army's top Executives, the Dragon Keepers have been putting on a show for the past 12 years by constantly beating down the Invaders' immortal footsoldier Dusters before large audiences to show that the Dragon Keepers are forever there to keep humanity safe.

However, it's made quite clear early on that these "heroes" protecting humanity aren't the greatest of people beneath their ranger uniforms. Thus, making Footsoldier D's objective to eventually defeat the Dragon Keepers all the more necessary.

  • Broken Pedestal: They become this big time to the populace in Chapter 88, to the point where even the Sunday battles end up being cancelled and many of their subordinates, most of them being from Red Battalion, desert en masse.
  • The Chosen People: Shinya mentions throughout history there have always been people capable of wielding the Dragon's divine power with the Keepers being no exception.
  • Corrupted Character Copy: Of Super Sentai teams in general, playing up the worst traits or being the opposite of each color.
    • While Red remains in the leader position, Red Keeper's heroism is fickle at best and is largely an outlet for his Blood Knight tendencies.
    • Blue Keeper maintains the public appearance of a Red Oni, Blue Oni dynamic with Red Keeper in public as he remains cool and quiet but is actually an ill-tempered Sir Swears-a-Lot.
    • Green Keeper comes off as the boisterous, silly member of the group during the Sunday battles but is a serious workaholic when out doing his real job.
    • Yellow Keeper does not fill the role of The Big Guy, instead being the brains of the group.
    • Pink Keeper plays up the role of being The Heart of the team for the camera but in actuality is aloof and only has eyes for her brother.
  • Colourful Theme Naming: As expected from a Sentai team really. The Red Keeper is Akabane, Blue Keeper is Aoshima (this also extends to the previous Blue Ranger as they are relatives) and Pink is Sakurama.
  • Immortal Breaker: The 5 Dragon Keepers are wielders of powerful weapons invented specifically for them known as the 5 Divine Tools. Such trump card weapons allowed humanity to defeat the Invaders as the 5 Divine Tools are capable of damaging and killing beings that were thought to be immortal. Replicas of these 5 Divine Tools were then created for the lower batallion rangers in order to give them a means to damage the immortal as well.
  • Instant Costume Change: As long as a Keeper has their Divine Tool, they're able to instantly suit up. Red Keeper loses this ability with his Tool when D swipes it from him, so he has to manually put his clothes on. He doesn't seem to mind, anyway.
  • The Leader: While Sosei's the overall leader of the Dragon Keepers due to his #1 ranking amongst all rangers, each of the Dragon Keepers serve as the leader of the ranger battalions of their respective color.
  • Legacy Character: The title of "Keepers" can be passed down to successors and considering the known rangers look fairly young odds are they're not the same group as the one who fought the original invaders 13 years ago. So far only the previous Blue was shown through a flashback. As it would turn out, they were assuming the roles of a super sentai-themed TV show that originally ended almost seven years before the Invaders had even arrived.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: While the Dragon Keepers consist of morally twisted fame junkies, con artists, and murderous sociopaths, they're still arguably better than the Executives who work to obtain world domination however they can and see their own minions as nothing but expendable pawns.
  • Pretender Diss: Yakushi calls them out for being nothing but knockoff wannabes and such a disgrace to the original Dragon Keepers that no real fan no real fan of the Tokusatsu Edition would ever accept them.
  • Secret Identity: Though they make constant media appearance, they all keep their identities a secret aside from Sosei as he's simply that much of an Attention Whore. As of chapter 88, their faces are all known to the public as a sign of trust.
  • The Team: The 5 of them are usually seen fighting as a team, particularly during the show matches against the Footsoldiers. In chapter 5, the five of them appear together when they confront D during his theft attempt to steal away Red Keeper's Divine Tool.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: The group has enslaved the survivors of an alien race, and forced them to play as villains for the public so that they can be seen as heroes by the public, who still believe they're being invaded and saved every Sunday by them. No longer the case as of Chapter 88 thanks to Sosei being tricked into revealing his true colors to the public, to the point where several Rangers desert the organization en masse and the Sunday battles end up being cancelled.

The Five Dragon Keepers

    Red Keeper / Sosei Akabane
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/red_keeper.jpg
"We're the good guys!"

The First Class Dragon Keeper of the Red Battalion, and overall leader of the Dragon Keepers. A handsome man with an unparalleled charisma, he's the main public figure of the Rangers and claims to fight for justice and against the Evil Kaijin Army. However, his views on justice may be more twisted than he lets on. Carrier of the Sword Divine Tool.

  • Affably Evil: In his first appearance he responded warmly to D's (fake) praise and encouraged him back. Then he kills F in cold blood in the next chapter.
  • Arc Villain: The Red Keeper serves as the main antagonist of the opening arc. D makes Red Keeper his target during his first infiltration, but after Yumeko discovers him, it becomes a mission for D to steal away Red Keeper's Divine Tool for Yumeko after witnessing said Keeper's murder of Footsoldier F.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Seems to be one of the original Dragon Keeper series, just like Wakaba. He in particular loves Episode 35 and is adamant that no one messes with the characterization or formation of the Keepers.
  • Attention Whore: The culmination of his schemes of enslaving the Footsoldiers is to use the never-ending publicity to bolster the Rangers, and by consequence his own ego as the savior of the world and number-one hero in charge of the Rangers. And he's more than willing to go to any length, even murder, to keep that gravy train going.
  • Ax-Crazy: Oh hell, yes. He's more than willing to murder anyone, friend or foe, who manages to set him off in any way.
  • Badass Boast: As the leader of the Dragon Keepers, he tends to shout these as the protectors of humanity at the Footsoldiers. Especially as a means to hype up the watching audience. Though given his true persona, it's kind of obvious that he's just playing the acting role as the leader.
  • Baseball Episode: During his chapter 5 fight with D, Sosei treats whacking away the water tower ball that D tried to drop on him as if he was playing baseball. At the end of the chapter, it's shown that Red Keeper smashed the water tower ball into the billboard showing the 5 Dragon Keepers.
  • Beneath the Mask: On the outside, he's the heroic charismatic leader of the Dragon Keepers. On the inside, he's a twisted sociopath.
  • Big Bad: Effectively touts himself as the Red Is Heroic leader of the Rangers, and is shown to be the worst of the bunch. As the top of the hierarchy, this also means he is the ultimate goal of D to take down at the very apex of the food chain. Though with the return of the Executives, it evens out to a Big Bad Ensemble.
  • Colorful Theme Naming: "Sosei Akabane". "Aka" is "red" in Japanese.
  • Control Freak: Has shades of this, most notably his very specific vision of how the Keepers should look and act. So much that it is apparently more of a priority for a replacement candidate to meet than skills, and deviating from said vision in any fashion is among the many ways to set him off.
  • Death by Irony: As someone obsessed with his public image and built an ego around keeping the Footsoldiers under his heel, he dies in his underwear after being rather anticlimactically stabbed by D while he was changing. Adding insult to injury, it would seem his death was completely swept under the rug and a new Red Keeper was found in time for the next Sunday battle. Averted as of chapter 88, as he seemingly survived the encounter.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: In chapter 74, when one of his fearful subordinates he already mocked accidentally pours tea on his helmet mid-conversation, the next shot is the aftermath of stomping the poor guy into a paste across the floor just off-panel.
  • Dying Alone: Dies in a secluded part of the zoo as he was changing out of his Keeper uniform when D stabbed him through the heart. Unlike Blue's death, the media makes no mention of it and he is immediately replaced for the next Sunday battle. Averted as of chapter 88, as he seemingly survived the encounter.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Sosei's not properly introduced outside of his ranger suit until the second half of chapter 2, but near the start of that same chapter, he can be seen with a microphone reminding the exam takers trying to become ranger cadets of how many more laps they have left to run.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Red Keeper has two that show off both sides of the role in the story he plays. The first is in chapter 1 where he acts out his role as the Dragon Keeper hero that disposes of D when the latter tries to change the plot. The second is in chapter 6 that shows off his brutal murder of his Red Battalion's Junior First Class ranger, Jin Himura, which makes it clear just how evil the current Red Keeper actually is.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: When the threat of the Executives bringing back their ultimate weapon is floated, he genuinely seems to be serious about it needing to be stopped before it could even attempt to happen given the implications that it could wipe out humanity, and nearly did the first time around. Not an ounce of his egotistical urges for publicity are exerted, at least openly.
  • Evil Gloating: When D stands up to the Dragon Keepers in the 999th show match, the Red Keeper steps forward to be the one that sends D back to the citadel. Before finishing D off, the Red Keeper orders D to know his place, reminding D that this isn't his kind's stage, and to take the hint that the job of a footsoldier is only to shut up and get beaten up by the heroes: the rangers.
  • Evil Hero:
    • He, alongside his fellow Dragon Keepers, has kept the already defeated and harmless Dusters as slaves for them to continue beating every Sunday to keep being celebrities and heroes of humanity in the eyes of the people. If the Dusters refuse, they'll be killed in an instant by their weapons, the Divine Tools.
    • He mercilessly kills his attache, the Red Junior 1st Class Jin Himura, because of the latter claiming he should resign from his position after his Divine Tool got stolen. Even worse is the fact that Jin grew up looking up to Sosei, was directly trained by him since he was a recruit, and Sosei himself told him he wished for Jin to surpass him one day. That wasn't enough for him to hold back his punches.
    • In chapter 74 he again kills his new attaché, Red Junior 1st Class Dairyuu Azuki, after he fails to refill his tea promptly and spills the new cup on him. In the same chapter he threatens to kill Suzukiri for laughing at him while he's mourning Jin (whose death he himself caused), almost going through with it if not for Yellow Keeper refocusing him on their meeting.
  • Evil Is Petty: In Chapter 74 he coldly refuses to let Komachi fill the role of Blue Keeper despite her status as Blue Battalion’s Junior First Class ranger and her competency out of the belief that her short stature will disrupt the Keepers’ signature team pose too much, then rubs salt in the wound by calling her a midget to her face.
  • Evil Laugh: Has one in chapter 5 when D, a nothing Footsoldier to him, asks Red Keeper to take him seriously.
  • Fatal Flaw: His complete non-caring attitude towards potential threats, such as viewing the Footsoldiers as nothing to worry about. It bites him early on when Footsoldier D easily locates Red Keeper's Divine Tool because, instead of keeping it under some sort of heavy protection, Sosei just carelessly kept it lying around in a golf bag. This carelessness eventually catches up to him when Sosei decides to change out of his Keeper outfit in a place with nobody around, leaving him wide open for D to literally stab him in the back and kill him.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Though he's cruel towards the aliens that he treats as punching bags, in his first quiet scene with the other Keepers, he seems rather affable initially, admitting his mistake in losing his Divine Tool and joking about how the outfit he's currently wearing is an old one that smells really musty. However, when his second in command states that he should probably step down from his position because of this, he agrees that he probably should before punching his second in command's head into a pulp. He then sits down and begins to eat like nothing happened while his hand is still covered in blood with the second in command's corpse behind him.
  • Foil: To Green Keeper on many counts.
    • Red Keeper lives unmasked as Sosei Akabane, appearing in commercials and on posters, while Green Keeper keeps his identity as Chidori a secret, hiding behind a total face mask. Sosei Akabane is clean cut and conventionally attractive, while Chidori looks like a hooligan, which gets him into trouble with the authorities.
    • Red Battalion is the most visible, being major contributors to the publicly televised Sunday battles, while Green Battallion works in the shadows to hunt executives, to the point that their actions are top secret and are officially covered up, even to other rangers.
    • Red Keeper behind the scenes is Ax-Crazy, giving No Quarter to Invaders acting off script and even killing his own battalion members for not meeting his expectations. Meanwhile, Green Keeper maintains his heroism both on and off camera as he offered to spare D from death in Chapter 5, again in Chapter 78, and was the only Keeper that tried to stop Red Keeper from murdering his attache in Chapter 6.
    • Even the Chance Meetings Between Antagonists were opposites as Sosei Akabane was standing tall when and proud when D first met him while D unknowingly saved Chidori as he was getting arrested by the police.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Akabane has a ridiculously short temper. Him beating someone to death for suggesting that he should step down from his position is already excessive, but doing the same to someone for spilling his drink is beyond the pale.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: His divine tool is a sword and he's the leader of the rangers. He's not your typical hero, however.
  • He's Back!: As a means of showing their humanity in the conflict, the Keepers all removed their helmets— this included the Red Keeper that took over Sosei's spot after his death, who turned out to be Sosei all along.
  • In the Back: He meets his end in Chapter 82 when D backstabs him while changing out of his Keeper attire.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: His inability to take the threat of the Footsoldiers seriously causes his Divine Tool to be stolen away by Footsoldier D. All because Sosei was so careless that he just kept his Divine Tool stored in a golfclub bag as if it was just another everyday item.
  • The Leader: Given that he's the first-ranked ranger, he serves as the overall leader of the Dragon Keepers.
  • Mask of Sanity: When in public, and even with his friends, he maintains the jovial and kind-hearted disposition of what's expected of the leader of a Ranger team. But the second something goes slightly off for him, he's ready to kill whatever bothers him.
  • Mentor Archetype: A flashback shows that master Sosei had this relationship with apprentice Red Battalion's Junior First Class ranger, Jin. However, it's pretty obvious that Sosei was just acting out the master role as he instantly kills Jin off the moment Jin tries to convince Sosei to retire as Red Keeper.
  • My Greatest Failure: When looking back over the loss of Blue Keeper, Abakane deeply regrets forcing him into becoming a Keeper but was still proud he fought to the bitter end. However it could likely just be Crocodile Tears for the rest of the Keepers as not a moment later he's back to his Jerkass personality and talking down to Aizome. Not to mention a bit later he beats his replacement acting Junior First Class to death.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: He managed to fall for Yakushi's goading about being a disgrace to the original Rangers and tore his forearm off for it all while Hwalipon in disguise livestreamed the whole discourse. Trust in the Rangers were already wavering due to Hwalipon's livestreams so the poster boy of the association revealing his Ax-Crazy side is a massive blow to their image.
  • Not Quite Dead: Despite getting stabbed through the heart and being left to bleed out, he seemed no worse for wear as he made his regular appearance for the Sunday battle.
  • Oh, Crap!: The moment he realizes that D successfully tricked him by leaving behind his detached arm disguised as Red Keeper's Divine Tool on the Red Garrison roof (which dusts away and returns to D's body), and the real Divine Tool fell off the building and disappeared. The Divine Tool is last seen having secretly ended up in Yumeko's possession.
  • Orochi: The massive energy given off by his Divine Tool comes in the form of an Orochi dragon.
  • Older Than He Looks: Everyone looks at least a little different in a decade, but Akabane hasn't aged a day since we saw him in Blue Keeper's flashback to his teenage years and he was already an active Keeper by then.
  • Out-Gambitted: His "fight" with D in chapter 5 was just supposed to be another event where the 5 Dragon Keepers show off against a rebel Footsoldier. Unfortunately, D succeeds in fooling Sosei with a switcheroo trick, which resulted in the loss of the Red Keeper Divine Tool.
  • Psychotic Smirk: Red Keeper gives off a really wicked smile as he's about to kill Footsoldier F with an activated Divine Tool.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: He tends to provide these to those he views beneath him. Especially the Footsoldiers.
    • Upon coming across Footsoldier F on Earth in chapter 3, he calls out the Footsoldiers as being pitiful creatures because they're showing themselves to not be smart enough to follow the rangers' order of just hiding in their fortress like good Invaders.
    • In chapter 5, he calls D a reject because he's failed to follow the villain's script. So much so that D's not even able to properly hold the Divine Tool he currently has.
    • In chapter 6, he kills his Red Battalion's Junior First Class ranger, Jin Himura. Quickly smashing Jin into the wall, Sosei calls Jin a disappointment for proving that despite all the previous training to rise up to Junior First Class, Jin ended up not getting any stronger.
  • Red Is Violent: And boy is he.
  • The Social Darwinist: He sees himself as the strong and the invaders as the weak, which, in his worldview, means he is entitled to their servitude. He believes that by letting people assume those roles, this is how peace is achieved.
The weak, as the weak, don't resist the strong. The strong, as the strong, don't fear the weak.
  • The Sociopath: After effortlessly killing his attache Jin Himura, he apologizes for interrupting his fellow Keepers's dinner. He then starts eating while his right hand, helmet, and the wall behind him are all covered in blood as if nothing had happened.
  • Tautological Templar: Sosei lives with the philosophy that he is a good guy, therefore, he justifies all his actions as good and all the actions of the invaders as evil.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: How he killed Footsoldier F was considerable overkill; basically activating his Divine Tool to send a massive energy blast in the form of an orochi dragon down upon said Footsoldier.
  • Undignified Death: Dies stabbed through the heart in his underwear after D accidentally stumbled on him changing.
  • Un-person: Despite being the face of the Ranger Organization, his death is completely swept under the rug and a replacement is found immediately. Averted as of chapter 88, as his "replacement" was seemingly him all along.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: As the Rangers are well aware of his murderous nature, Kanon proposes ganging up on him and taking him out to Green Keeper, since he doesn't currently have a Divine Tool. Green Keeper shuts it down, saying things would be a lot easier if they could, implying there's something that stops the other Keepers from rebelling against him.

    Blue Keeper / Keisuke Souma
The former Junior First Class ranger of Blue Battalion. Souma had retired from the Ranger Organization for a time before being dragged back to act as Blue Keeper.
  • 0% Approval Rating: His subordinates didn't seem keen on waiting for him to suit up, dismissively saying they'll be going on without him.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Chapter 98 is almost entirely focused on him, which delves into his Backstory as a member of Blue Battalion.
  • Always Someone Better: Towards Shougo.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: As Rikuto's JFC, he was brash and convinced himself following Rikuto's retirement he would succeed him as Blue Keeper.
  • Fallen Hero: A non-evil example. His ego took a major hit after Rikuto's son was chosen to succeed him as the next Keeper despite Souma undergoing the Dragon Keeper surgeries. Shougo's blunt personality would frequently clash with Souma's until it culminated with their battle against Andrega where Souma came to terms with the fact he'll always be second fiddle. It's implied not long after that Souma resigned from the Rangers and became a convenience store cahsier.
  • Heroism Won't Pay the Bills: Mentions that not only do the Keepers have salaries but also they're apparently on par with an officer worker's salary. Considering he's effectively on the clock 24/7 acting as Blue Keeper, by his estimates he's making less than minimum wage.
  • Only in It for the Money: Played With. Souma has a genuine disdain for being a Ranger again, never mind being one of the Keepers, and says the salary is awful despite the long hours and health risks. However he's not entirely above it as he had to negotiate with the Footsoldiers to make a Staged Shooting of Hwalipon personally attacking the city all so Souma could get a bonus since he claimed money is tight for him this month. Even when the entire city is at risk of being overrun by monsters he complains about how they're not getting paid for it.
  • Refusal of the Call: Claims Blue Battalion has been trying to pull him out of retirement in order to replace the deceased Blue Keeper. He eventually agrees to make one appearance for the Sunday battle, though it seems his fellow Keepers won't let him get away after that,
  • Retired Badass: Previously the Junior First Class of Blue Battalion, though his retirement doesn't last for long as he's eventually dragged back to be the new Blue Keeper.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Tries to pull this following Blue Keeper's return to the Sunday Battles. Apparently he was only to play Blue Keeper for the one time but the other Keepers reneged on the agreement as there's another role he needs to fill.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: After Blue Keeper was credited for slaying Andrega, what remained of his ego as the JFC of Blue Battalion was shattered as he came to terms he'll always be second best to Blue Keeper.
  • Took a Level in Idealism: Despite his own self doubt, he regained the resolve to stand and fight against the Executives as its something Shougo would have wanted.

    Yellow Keeper / Shinya Kiritani
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yellow_keeper.jpg
"C'mon, keep your act together. Nobody asked for your opinion."

The First Class Dragon Keeper of the Yellow Battalion, and Yumeko's boss. A man who's always showing a cheeky smile, no matter the situation. Relaxed and with an easy-going attitude.

  • 24-Hour Armor: In contrast to the rest of the Keepers, Shinya tells the new recruits that he never takes his suit off, just in case of an emergency. It took 88 chapters just to see his face.
  • A Day In The Lime Light: After appearing multiple times in rather minor scenes, Yellow (and his Battalion as a whole) is center focus of Chapter 84.
  • Big Bad: The mastermind behind the Kaijin War as Shinya created the Executives.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: His perpetual smile leans into this territory after Yumeko exposes the involvement of Yellow Battalion in past experiments that lead to the creation of the Monsters.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Always referred to his title by both subordinates and his fellow Rangers, even in casual seting.
  • Evil Genius: Leader of Ranger R&D as the head of Yellow Battalion, and involved in the experiments that created the Monsters which are heavily implied to be mutated people.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: Revealed to D in Chapter 96 he created the Executives, therefore creating D by extension.
  • Mad Scientist: Of the Mad Biologist variety. Yellow took part in the experimentations that created the monsters Hwalipon has been using to terrorize the civilian populace.
  • Maker of Monsters: Experiments in Yellow Battalion created the Monsters. It would later be revealed that prior to the Kaijin War he created the Executives as well.
  • Man Behind the Man: Though Sosei presents himself as the leader of the Rangers Association, Shinya is its real mastermind as he's responsible for creating the Human-Invader conflict as he created the Executives and the Divine Tools to fight them.
  • Perpetual Smiler: He's always seen with a smiling expression, even when Yumeko is blackmailing him with information that would suggest Yellow Battalion had a hand in the creation of the monsters.
  • Resemblance Reveal: Upon removing his helmet with the other Keepers in Chapter 88, it is revealed he bears a very strong resemblance to Yumeko. Namely the blonde hair and Dull Eyes of Unhappiness. Seems to only be a skin deep resemblance as his full name is revealed in Chapter 91, indicating no familial ties to her.
  • The Reveal: He officially reveals to D in chapter 96 that he was the one behind the creation of the Invaders.
  • Rival Science Teams: With the former Yellow Battalion JFC Daidai, though it seems to be a one-sided affair. At the very least Shinya knows Daidai's work when he sees it even if it's sloppy.
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: His voice never seems to go above his nature timbre, and he's unfailingly polite to D even when he admits his experiments resulted in the creation of the Invaders and the Divine Tools.
  • Uniformity Exception: His Divine Tool is named after the World Serpent Jörmungandr of Norse Mythology while other Divine Tools being named after Japanese deities.

    Green Keeper / Chidori
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/green_keeper.jpg
"Gahahaha! What a dumbass!"

The First Class Dragon Keeper of the Green Battalion. A loud and eccentric man who enjoys interesting things, and the only Keeper who has their entire face covered while transformed. Outside his ranger suit, he puts on an act as a mysterious civilian informant who provides useful information for members of Green Battalion.

  • Animal Motifs: As Chidori, Green Keeper is heavily associated with lizards and reptiles. All of his Information Broker's Tools have a gecko embalzoned on its surface.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Tells D he spared him because of the time D vouched for him when he was being accused of being an Invader by the police, though a case could also be made for the comradery they had during the Dreamy School Life arc while D was unaware that Green knew his secret.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: In-costume, Green in a jolly fighter aching for a proper opponent. While he acts arrogant on the field, his ego hides concern for his underlings.
  • Face of a Thug: Even more than Blue Keeper. He wears his hair long and wild, has spiky studs adorning his ears and makeup that wouldn't look out of place at a punk concert. He gets into trouble with the local populace for this. It's no wonder why his Keeper mask fully covers his head.
  • Friendly Enemy: Despite being fully aware of D being an invader, he never exposed him to the rest of Green Battalion or his fellow Keepers. Even when D tried to assassinate him in the middle of the night he let D go claiming it they were even after D saved him from getting arrested and looked forward to seeing him on their next mission. He made it abundantly clear, however, that he spared him because D's intent to kill was seriously lacking and implied he'd have killed D had it not been.
  • I Call It "Vera": Green Keeper gives little nicknames to all of his tools and weapons. Unfortunately for him, he is the only one who calls them by his names, and he constantly has to correct people on their "proper" terms.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: Despite knowing D is an Invader, he doesn't out him to the rest of Green Battalion and even has him join along for missions. Even with D trying to assassinate him constantly he stays one step ahead and usually taunts him to try harder.
  • The Lancer: To Red Keeper.
  • Mysterious Informant: As a normal civilian, Green Keeper performs work as an informant who provides his lower members of Green Battalion with useful information that he discovered.
  • Only One Name: Unlike his fellow Rangers, Green Keeper only operates under one name in his civilian life. Given that he has a family, it's likely that he's just operating under a codename.
  • The Plan: While confronting D over the stolen Divine Tool in chapter 5, Green Keeper suggests to Red Keeper a Plot Twist to let D live by taking him prisoner rather than just outright killing the Footsoldier in order for the latter to truly understand just how weak the Footsoldiers truly are. However, D rejects it, after which Red Keeper instantly orders his death.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Gives one to D after revealing he's known D's an invader for quite some time, saying he's acting out of his Invader nature after witnessing him give a Red Battalion Ranger the option to run away.
  • The Reveal: In the battle against Magatia during the Dreamy School Life arc, Chidori reveals himself to be Green Keeper in front of D.
  • Scary Teeth: His Dragon Keeper suit comes with shark-like teeth.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: His seven Information Broker's Tools each take a name from the Sins:
    • Sloth Brain is a tablet with access to archived news from anywhere in the world.
    • Greed Eye is a reptile-shaped spy camera.
    • Envy Medicine is, quite simply, a gun.
    • Gluttony Way is a grappling hook.
    • Finally, Wrath Hammer is what he nicknames his Divine Tool.
  • Secret-Keeper: Fully aware that D is an invader in disguise but doesn't act on it as he doesn't view him as a threat and is curious what D's end game is.
    • Also for Yumeko after her and D's failed assassination attempt on Green. While no dialogue was exchanged upon Green catching up to her, they seem to be on amicable terms as her next appearance following the reveal is her and green playing Othello at Green Battalion HQ.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: In chapter 56 Chidori mentioned a necessity for Green Battalion to blend in with the other students to further investigate Magatia's illusory world, with a special emphasis towards D as he mentioned the Hibiki Sakurama he knows is an honor student. While D had his suspicions at the time, it would later be confirmed in chapter 77 that during the conversation Chidori bugged D and spied on him over the course of the arc with one of his observer tools. The only reason he didn't expose D during the arc or even during the post-mission celebration was because he was curious as to why an Invader was infiltrating the Rangers.
  • Signature Laugh: He tends to give off a "Gahahaha!" laugh at whatever excites him. He only does it while in costume; while he's shown being amused outside of it, he hardly laughs.
  • Uniformity Exception: His day-to-day Ranger attire consists of a white hoodie and black skinny jeans, compared to the color-coded jumpsuit all the other Rangers and fellow Keepers wear. Justified as the bulk of his work is spent undercover and keeps his identity a secret.

    Pink Keeper / Sesera Sakurama
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pink_keeper.jpg
"You don't think that's dull?"

The First Class Dragon Keeper of the Pink Battalion, and the only woman of the five Dragon Keepers. She acts as a mediator between the group when they have a conflict with each others' antics, much to her dismay. Outside her ranger suit, her actual self is a paraplegic and die-hard brocon towards her younger brother, Hibiki.

  • Backstory: Chapter 11 delves into her backstory through a story that Hibiki tells to D. The explanation under Hibiki's Dark and Troubled Past trope goes into more detail regarding it.
  • Big Brother Worship: Inverted. Sesera is a die-hard brocon, gushing over her younger brother in secret and having several body pillows and displays of him in her room. She does her absolute best to hide this in public.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She's always looking out for her younger brother, Hibiki. Given that she knows how much of a pacifist he is, she doesn't feel that Hibiki's suited to be a ranger that has to fight against Invaders, and tries to get him to quit in chapter 15, not knowing that she's speaking to D disguised as "Hibiki".
  • Career-Ending Injury: She was an aspiring athlete in her youth; however when she protected her younger brother Hibiki from the alien "God" that killed her parents, rubble from its blast fell onto her legs, permanently crippling her. Despite this, she joined the Rangers afterwards and was still able to climb the ranks till eventually becoming the current Pink Keeper.
  • Colorful Theme Naming: "Sesera Sakurama". "Sakura" or "cherry blossom" is commonly associated with the color pink.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: As part of her Establishing Character Moment, she disposes of a group of human thugs that were bothering a woman at the park.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Has shades of being a klutz. In chapter 15, she struggles so bad at simply peeling an apple for her brother that the knife goes flying.
  • Dark Action Girl: Her outer-self comes off as this, such as looking quite threatening when she's trying to convince her brother, not knowing that it's D disguised, to quit being a ranger, and she's quite capable of beating her enemies up. Meanwhile on the inside, Sesera's absolutely obsessed with Hibiki.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Pretty much experienced the same horrible past as Hibiki given that they're family (read his section of this trope). The main difference being that she used to be quite the athletic girl, but ended up losing said trait due to becoming a paraplegic.
  • Dark Horse Sibling: She is Hibiki's older sister who, despite becoming crippled protecting him, still managed to rise up through the ranks of the Rangers and eventually became the current Pink Keeper.
  • Disability-Negating Superpower: She's actually wheelchair-bound outside of her Dragon Keeper work, with Nadeshiko serving as her attendant. When she puts her suit on, she can stand perfectly fine.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The tail end of chapter 16 provides this where she shows off how strong she is as Pink Keeper by instantly disposing of a group of thugs, then starts really gushing over Hibiki afterwards, thus showing that underneath her powerful cold exterior, Sesera's a die-hard brocon.
  • Foreshadowing: In chapter 7, Yumeko calls her out for not actually wanting the former to attend the next ranger meeting as Pink Ranger just wants Yumeko's partner to attend, thus hinting at what Pink Keeper's die-hard brocon relationship towards Hibiki, the said partner, turns out to be.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: During the chapter 11 Backstory, she's seen giving Hibiki a slap to the face due to Hibiki not listening to her. She did it trying to keep Hibiki from seeing their mother and father taking part in the cult that's worshipping Peltrola, their supposed "God".
  • Girly Girl: Invoked, and it's heavily implied she resents being in that role. The work she gets is more fashion and beauty-based rather than anything involving the cause, which she specifically requests to never do again. Lampshaded in Chapter 16, where some local punks mock her by saying that she's only there to be the eye candy of the current Keepers.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: She's the tiny girl to Masurao's big guy whenever they're seen together as members of Pink Battalion.
  • Luminescent Blush: After beating up a group of thugs at the end of chapter 16, she's so proud of Hibiki standing up to her when she tried to get him to quit being a ranger that it causes her to happily blush in excitement. This is also the moment that makes her obsession towards her brother quite clear. Granted, she didn't know that it was a disguised D at the time but the point still stands that she got excited at the thought of seeing Hibiki grow up.
  • Only Sane Woman: Unlike her colleagues, she's the least eccentric and the least likely to pick a fight and act out, making her the mediator of their team. She is later revealed to be Not So Above It All, with a strange obsession with her little brother and a bit of a sadistic streak.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She seemed to be a really good track runner before becoming a paraplegic. Even her battle-style as Pink Keeper has her getting in a track start position before she starts running at her enemies.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Averted. While she is the sole female member of the main Ranger lineup, there are multiple other girls trying to climb the ranks throughout the organization, with some even reaching high-ranking second-in-command roles.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: She has a uniquely designed set of eyes, which she shares with her brother, Hibiki.
  • Yandere: She shows shades of this towards her younger brother, Hibiki. So much so that she obsesses over him during her alone time.

    Ryujin - the "Dragon God"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ryujin.PNG
"These people are your allies. What are you doing?"

The "mascot" of the Dragon Keepers. A very small sentient dragon-like creature with a relatively round form, making it look like a plushie. Has the ability to float.

  • Early-Bird Cameo: Can be seen briefly in chapter 4 stationed in a Ranger Association hallway, and noticing the oddity of "Sosei Akabane" (D in disguise) walking around while a Dragon Keeper show match against the Footsoldiers is going on.
  • Flight: Given that Ryujin appears to be a little dragon, it's capable of flying.
  • Foreshadowing: The reason Red Keeper suddenly appears to try to stop D from stealing the former's Divine Tool is because Ryujin noticed D walking around as "Sosei Akabane" beforehand.
  • Mascot: Serves as the Team Pet of the Dragon Keepers.

Former Dragon Keepers

    Blue Keeper / Rikuto Aoshima
The previous generation's Blue Keeper and father to Shougo.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Rikuto had a strong sense of justice while Shougo was a delinquent that frequently got in trouble with the law.
  • Posthumous Character: He's known mainly through his role in the life of his son and successor as Blue Keeper Shougo.

    Blue Keeper / Shougo Aoshima

"..."

The First Class Dragon Keeper of the Blue Battalion. With scars all across his face, he always remains silent during all his public appearances. In actuality, he's not mute, but due to his true self being a huge Sir Swears-a-Lot that gets angry rather easily, he was ordered to play the silent role amongst the Keepers. He's the carrier of the Spear Divine Tool.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Komachi calls him "Big Blue".
  • All Your Powers Combined: His real special ability is to use the powers of all of the Rangers under his command. This includes Komachi's shield, Hekiru's liquid attacks, and many others.
  • Anti-Hero / Anti-Villain: Depends from which perspective you see him. He was a former criminal and even as a ranger he's still a rough man. However he also cares about his friends and genuinely fights to protect the innocents. As he puts it, he's a man who's half-assed at either good or evil.
  • Arc Villain: Along with Peltrola, the Blue Keeper serves as one of the main villains of the Bailong Exams arc that D goes up against. It's also where Blue Keeper meets his end.
  • Beneath the Mask: On the outside, he comes off as the stoic calm and silent type. In actuality, he's got severe anger issues to the point of yelling and swearing a lot at whatever's currently pissing him off. It's so bad that he's been ordered to act as the calm one whenever he's out in public.
  • Berserk Button: Not taking the Dragon Keepers seriously is a really easy way to piss him off.
  • Blue Is Calm: Played with. For public appearances he maintains a calm and quiet demeanor but it's only because he's extremely foul-mouthed and rude when actually talking.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Played straight. Blue may be rough around the edges and loathes being a Ranger, but he nonetheless stepped up when Peltrola attacked, avenging his fallen comrades and nearly killing the Executive.
  • Boxed Crook: Akabane threatens him with this upon their second meeting. Aoshima could very well go to jail with the rest of his crew for being accused of an unrelated murder, or he could stand in as the next Blue Keeper to replace the recently killed Rikuto Aoshima.
  • Character Death: Peltrola shoots him through the neck and D stabs him during their battle in Chapter 50 with his death being confirmed in the following chapter.
  • Colorful Theme Naming: "Shougo Aoshima". "Ao" is "blue" in Japanese.
  • Death by Flashback: A mix of his and Komachi's flashbacks recounting Blue becoming a Keeper and their relationship. A few chapters later, Blue would be slain fighting D and Peltrola.
  • Don't Tell Mama: While he was stealing millions of yen for his criminal group, the young Aoshima always took his share of the pay and put it towards his father Rikuto's orphanage. Rikuto himself has an inkling that the money's covered in blood, but he'll take whatever he can get as long as the orphanage can keep running.
  • Establishing Character Moment: For the first 5 chapters, it was believed that Blue Keeper was the calm and silent one of the Dragon Keepers. Chapter 6 on the other hand shows what he's actually like, being a raging Sir Swears-a-Lot that gets pissed off quite easily, such as yelling out and raging at Yumeko just for being late to a meeting. It's so bad that Blue Keeper's been ordered to act the complete opposite while out in public.
  • Former Teen Rebel: The story shows, at least, that Shougo was a petty thief at eighteen years old. He would have continued living that life if his father didn't die in the line of duty and if Akabane didn't force him to be the replacement Blue Keeper.
  • Frame-Up: Aoshima and his thief acquaintances were all handed alibis by their informant, so that they wouldn't be taken in for a recent robbery. This ends up backfiring on them when the informant turns out to be a Duster, and their alibis have them at the scene of a completely different crime which resulted in the murder of a civilian.
  • Friend to All Children: Despite his vulgar and flippant attitude, children love him, or at least the ones at his father's orphanage do.
  • Gut Feeling: In chapter 7, Blue Keeper informs Hekiru of the oddity that even though the former controlled his strength with his Divine Tool to not kill Footsoldier D atop the Red Garrison as it would have been just a stab wound and left the building undamaged, what instead happened was said footsoldier exploding (Foodsoldier D used Yumeko's dynamite to make it look like Blue Keeper killed him in order to get away). As a result, Blue Keeper's left feeling that something's off. Their worst case scenario is that Footsoldier D escaped and made off with Red's Divine Tool. Thus, he orders Hekiru to investigate if the footsoldier got blown away by the wind when said footsoldier dusted back to the Sky Fortress while Blue Keeper investigates the fortress himself. The former ends up being the case as Hekiru discovers the stabbed Footsoldier D in the nearby forest.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Leans heavy towards the Jerk. While Blue is a handful to everyone he knows, he still has a legitimate sense of justice and won't hesitate to deal with opponents who hurt his subordinates. He'll especially get fired up if Komachi is hurt. However, D suggests that while his heart might be in the right place, his protectiveness towards his friends and allies is probably just his excuse to go all out on people he perceives as the enemy.
  • Jousting Lance: His divine tool, making him a literal lancer.
  • Making a Splash: All of his power-based attacks use water/the ocean as a theme. He can summon bubble bombs with various sea creatures, shoot out a stream of concentrated water, and much, much more. Also combined with Water Is Blue.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: He is not nice to his opponents. If someone he perceives as a threat is knocking the living daylights out of something or makes their disdain known, he'll pay them in kind with extra. He once throttled a whole gang for abusing a kitten, and tries to brutalize XX once he discovers she's a Footsoldier.
  • The Quiet One: Whenever he's in public.
  • Refusal of the Call: Despite being the son of the previous Blue Keeper, he was a delinquent in his youth and wanted nothing to do with the Rangers. It took the death of his father and persistence of Abakane to get him to take up the mantle.
  • Scars Are Forever: You can clearly tell that he has some pretty gruesome facial scars. Scars that he picked up before becoming the Blue Keeper.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: The reason he maintains a silent persona while performing as Blue Keeper is because he's extremely loud and vulgar. His fellow Keepers thought this would not be a good reflection of a "good guy" so they make him remain silent at almost all times. His attache, Komachi, even mentions that if he were to speak during the battle, the children would be more scared of him than the Kaijins.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Make no mistake, he's the Blue Keeper for a reason and is fully capable of beating an army of Peltrola's clones near-singlehandedly. But he's not invincible and said fight runs him ragged, allowing even a lowly Mook like D to fight him on equal footing afterwards and ultimately getting killed by a sneak attack from Peltrola.

    Pink Keeper / Saika Momoe

The first generation's Pink Keeper.

  • Never Suicide: Implied. Momoe was found dead in her own apartment, having apparently killed herself shortly after giving her testimony on the early years of the war to Ukyo. Considering Rangers had been tailing her for a long time and Akabane had already noticed Ukyo, it's likely they put Momoe down.
  • Posthumous Character: Momoe has been dead for a few years by the time the story starts, killed when Ukyo and Sazan were already adults.
