    The Protagonist
The playable character of the game. Nothing much is known about them except that they somehow ended up in a prison cell and keep receiving letters from various people.
  • Featureless Protagonist: Nothing is known about them.
  • Heroic Mime: They cannot reply to the messages they receive.
  • The Immune: If you stay in the cell, Dr. Money will send you a letter revealing that you were injected with the real antidote and locked up until your organs are valued highly.
  • You Wake Up in a Room: The game starts you off in a jail cell for unspecified reasons. You can discover why later, though.

    Dr. Money
The vile individual behind the the plague haunting the town.
  • Big Bad: He's responsible for everything bad happening in the story: your imprisonment, the spreading disease that's killing people (both of which indirectly lead to Salvador and Charlotte dying respectively) and kidnapping Mr. Smiley's daughters, leading to his death as well when he kills them.
  • Greed: As you can guess from his name. Everything that he does is driven by his love for riches.
  • Hate Sink: Solely exists to be a remorseless, cruel manipulative person who only cares about money.
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: He's undoubtedly evil and uses his knowledge in medicine to get rich by tricking the population.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He had Mr. Smiley's daughters kidnapped and then killed.

    Charlotte
A pastry shop owner who starts messaging you in hopes of meeting you.
  • Driven to Suicide: On Day 5, she succumbs to her loneliness and kills herself in the backroom of her pastry shop.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: She commits suicide shortly before Salvadore manages to free you.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Because she is one of the few unaffected by the virus, Charlotte stayed in her shop for a long time hoping you'd come visit her. By the time Day 5 came, she gave up on it and killed herself.
  • The Immune: She doesn't contact the virus at all.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only character identifiable as female in the cast.

    Mr. Smiley
A man who was assigned by Dr. Money to keep you happy during your stay in your prison.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Drops the overly exaggerated happy facade in Day 5 and bluntly tells you he doesn't care if you're happy or not anymore. This is because he found out his daughters died.
  • Papa Wolf: Everything he does is for the sake of keeping his daughters safe from harm by Dr. Money's hands.
  • Stepford Smiler: You can't actually see it but his letters paint him as a man desperate to keep up his own happy facade to make sure you're happy.
  • Suicide by Cop: After his daughters die, he sells all of his organs to buy you a new game.

    Salvadore
A friend of the protagonist who was travelling a lot before coming back to his hometown and finding it as a barren wasteland.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Gives up his life to help you escape your prison.
  • Late to the Tragedy: He only found out about what's going on after coming back from his travels.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Twice with Charlotte. When she turned on her gramophone for you, Salvadore hears it as well, but couldn't figure out the source before Charlotte turned it off. She considers turning it on again, but doesn't.
    • If you leave the building, you'll discover that Charlotte's shop is close by, meaning that Salvadore must've walked by it, without realizing Charlotte is there.
