     Dr. Thomas Oliver
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/old_man_tommy.jpeg
He maybe old but that doesn't mean he's helpless.

One of the most famous and most powerful Power Rangers of them all. Having been a member of several ranger teams and having various powerful morphed forms. Sadly age has caught up to him and he is forced to retire. Although, he is forced out of retirement once he caught wind of his son going missing. Forcing him to pull his damaged Master Morpher out once last time.

  • All for Nothing: How he feels being a Power Ranger after so long. Tommy tells Kat at the beginning of the story that despite all they did in the early days, things aren't much better than when they began as Power Rangers. Kat subverts this mindset by telling him that he's wrong and that what they did mattered.
  • Character Development: Even though he was part of several Ranger teams over the years, he finally realizes that he doesn't have to do everything by himself.
  • Dented Iron: While still a skilled fighter, his age and the injuries he's accumulated over the years are starting to catch up to him. Not helping matters is having a morpher that's slowly breaking down.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: The damage to Tommy's Master Morpher requires him to carefully choose when to morph so that he can get the maximum use out of his powers before the damage drains that particular coin for good.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: At the end of the story, he and Kat decide to take a trip around the world, confident that neither of them have to worry about its safety with their son and S.P.D. protecting it.
  • Happily Married: To his Second Love, Katherine Hillard.
  • Handicapped Badass: Eight years before this story takes place he suffered a serious back injury while fighting a monster, forcing him to obtain a cybernetic spine. He covers up the real source of the injury by claiming that he was in a car accident.
  • Mandatory Unretirement: Though he's left Ranger duties to the younger generation, when his son goes missing Tommy quickly sets out to track him down.
  • Old Superhero: Now in his 40s-50s.
  • Papa Wolf: Comes out of retirement because his son J.J. goes missing.
  • Phlebotinum Breakdown: His Master Morpher suffered significant damage the last time he used it and now only has a few charges left, forcing Tommy to go through his powers in the reverse order he obtained them and losing his connection to those powers after they're used.
  • Reluctant Retiree: In his civilian life, budget cuts force him to retire from his career as a teacher.
  • Retired Badass: His Ranger days are behind him and he has left the protection of Earth to S.P.D.
  • Stronger with Age: Invoked via his Zeo Ranger powers which are stated to get stronger over time and at the point this story takes place, Tommy's had them for 20 years.
  • Virtuous Character Copy: While he's still the Tommy Oliver, he's also a much less cynical and jaded version of the older Wolverine from Old Man Logan or a much less fascist and sadistic version of the older Batman from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. Plus unlike the former, he actually gets a happy ending..

     J.J. Oliver

Unmorphed
Morphed

The son of Tommy Oliver and Katherine Hillard-Oliver, and also an S.P.D. Cadet.

  • All There in the Manual: One of the Js in his name stands for "Jake".
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Makes a voice-only cameo in Dimensions In Danger, which aired after the premiere of Soul of the Dragon and the character of J.J. was announced.
  • Fusion Dance: Once he morphs into the S.P.D. Green Ranger in the end. He also has his father's Dragon Shield over it. Becoming the S.P.D. Green Dragon Ranger.
  • Heroic Lineage: His parents are both Power Rangers, with his dad being the most famous and holding the most number of powers.
  • Legacy Character: Near the end of the story, he uses the last charge in his dad's Master Morpher to turn into the Green Ranger and when he morphs into S.P.D. Green at the end, he's wearing his dad's Dragon Shield over it.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Is referred to only as "J.J." the entire time.
  • Spin-Offspring: Was born some time after Dino Thunder.

     Kat Hillard Oliver

The former Pink Ranger of three different varieties, Tommy's wife and J.J.'s mother.

  • Action Mom: A former Pink Ranger who can still kick ass, she comes in as part of the rescue team for J.J. with a rifle in the final battle.
  • Badass Teacher: Mentions taking her class in a field trip to Triforia.
  • Happily Married: To Tommy.

     Anara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8f6c0e17_4567_496e_90d5_9cfa5477fe6f.jpeg
JJ's friend and colleague and Tommy's partner in finding J.J.

  • Alien Hair: Has purple hair.
  • Foil: To Tommy. While he is an older retired experienced father of her friend who during the story confronts how his legacy may have affected his son, she is a young newer hero who addresses how her father wanted her to live the life he never had. This allows her to help Tommy, saying that simply harping on it won't help and is a waste of time.
  • Rubber-Forehead Aliens: Appearance-wise she seems to be Aquitian but displays none of the issues the Aquitar Rangers faced (the need to constantly stay hydrated). Either a way for Aquitians to better survive environments other than their home planet was invented or she's a different race entirely.

     “The Witch”

Scorpina

  • Bait-and-Switch: With the moniker and their supplying the gangs of New Tech City with magical crystals, you would think we're dealing with a Rita Replusa turned evil again but instead it's a character who hasn't been seen (in the TV continuity) since season 2 of MMPR.
  • Big Bad: Though she's working as an Acolyte for a Greater-Scope Villain, she presents the major threat for the story.
  • Tragic Villain: At one point she implies that she regrets not being in the Main dimension when the Zordon Wave hit the Universe, purifying many villains, feeling she missed her chance to be a better person.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The story answers this question. Scorpina disappeared sometime after Rita and Zedd's wedding when she was punished by the former for seeking more power. She was sent to the Talos dimension where she became Lokar's prisoner until the Zordon wave wiped out all of his allies in the main dimension, granting her an opportunity to exchange her loyalty for freedom. However, when she returned it was decades later.

Former S.P.D. Blue Ranger and now the current Commander of the Earth S.P.D. following Anubis Cruger's promotion into Supreme Commander after Birdie's retirement.

     Finster
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aa537827_9ccc_46a0_aa82_4c1e18226d56.jpeg

  • Good Counterpart: Is unknowingly one to his Coinless counterpart Finster-5 who had a close relationship with Drakkon. After his purification he now seems to have a close friendship with the good Tommy Oliver to the point that his death deeply upsets his former enemy.
  • Heel–Face Turn: It's revealed that the Zordon wave from the end of Power Rangers In Space purified him just as it did Rita and Zedd.
