    Raquel "Raq"Thomas 
Played by Patina MillerThe mother of Kanan and sister of Marvin & Lou Lou and Aunt of Jukebox. She is a major player in the Southside as a woman she is fearless, cold and intelligent.
  • The Beard: She was paid to be in a relationship with a feared gangster named Def-Con when Howard confronted her about being Kanan biological dad, Def-con was a homosexual and when Raq gave birth to Kanan, he claimed him as his son so no one will suspect that he was gay.
  • The Chessmaster: Had Unique framed for Detective Howard shooting by having Lou Lou steal his custom made jacket with his name in the back, had Kanan wear it to shoot Howard, gave it to Marvin for him to put it in Unique home while he was gone, and for the police to raid his home to arrest him. Also had Juke Box warn Detective Burke that Unique was planning a hit on the police.
  • Cool Aunt: To Jukebox as she raised her when Marvin was locked up and supported her when she came out as a lesbian. She confronted Marvin about putting his hands on her and threatened to kill him if he ever did it again. In Season 3 she supported Jukebox decision to join the Army.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Very sarcastic and witty when she gets upset.
  • Dark Secret: Was an informant for Malcolm Howard who was a rookie cop at the time, they had sexual fling and she got pregnant and gave birth to a boy who would be Kanan.
  • Defiant to the End: In the season 2 finale Sal Bosseli put out various hits on Raq and her family, and Unique also. When she gets shot in the arm by Sals henchman she tells him "Do what the fuck you came here to do". But is saved by Unique as he shoots her would be killer in the back.
  • Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Originally she wanted Kanan to focus on his education and stay out of the drug game.
  • Foil: To James St Patrick. Both of them are parents to children who wanted to be in the drug game, James wanted to get out and go legit and had aspirations to become a mayor. Raq is willing to stay the Queenpin of the Southside and doesn't see herself leaving the drug game.
  • Ice Queen: She is cold and rarely have feelings for others except her family to a certain extent.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Uses people for her own benefit, but the biggest one was having Kanan shoot Howard who he didn't know that was his father, as he was going to expose her if he didn't let Kanan know him for a bone marrow transplant. Kanan finds out in Season 2 Malcolm was his father and it cause him to resent her where he leaves home to stay with Famous.
  • Mama Bear: Protective over Kanan. She threatened Palomar an older woman at gunpoint when she'd found out Kanan & her was sleeping together through his girlfriend Corrine. In Season 3 warns old time criminals Snaps & Pops not to do business with Kanan as he's partners with Ronnie selling heroin.
  • Mature Younger Sibling: She's the middle sister of the Thomas family, but more of the brains & leadership of the operation as Marvin is considered a Dumb Muscle.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Sent Kanan to kill Malcom Howard who was his father( Kanan didn't know at the time) In the Season 3 Finale she shoots Howard in the head in front of Kanan as Howard wanted Marvin to be the fall guy for the FBI.

     Marvin "Marv"Thomas 
The oldest brother of the Thomas Family and father of Jukebox, he's known to be the muscle of the organization. In Season 1 Him & Jukebox are distant despite living together.
  • Big Eater: Usually eating when he's on screen such as chips, candy. Kanan introduce him to the audience and lampshades on this.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Protective of his sister & brother, according to him he had to raise them when their parents were neglectful.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Kills one of Unique henchmen who had Kanan at gunpoint at the stash house. Uses a nail gun to shoot nails in a building inspector head who tried to rape Raq. Kills Sal Bosseli in season 3 while disguised as a mailman with headshot while taking a group picture at his grandson christening.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Does this with his brother Lou Lou, and with others.
  • Even Evil has Standards: Goes with Jukebox to confront her mother whoi had church members beat her and forced her to watch pornography to make her straight. In Season 3 he scolds Gerald a person he met at his anger management class for having his daughters in the car in cold weather while he was at home shooting up heroin.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The foolish to Raq & Lou Lou, as he's the oldest. Raq revealed to Kanan that Marvin was so high off his product that he tried selling drugs to the cops, and scolded him for getting into business with him.
  • Homophobic:When he finds out that Jukebox was a lesbian by snooping through her room he discovered pictures of her & Nicole together and a video they made singing. He laters confronts her and insults her & Nicole death, which causes Jukebox to spit in his face. He slaps her and breaks the tape which enraged Jukebox and they fight, until he almost strangle her death, and pulls a My God, What Have I Done?. This causes Jukebox to leave his house to stay with Raquel. In Season 2 he tries to make amends but is rebuffed by her, until her mother Kenya had the church beat her for being an lesbian, they confronted Kenya and Jukebox ends her relationship with her. Marvin later apologizes to Jukebox and embraces her being an lesbian.
  • Hot-Blooded: Gets aggressive when he gets angry, but in season 2 after taking an anger management class he mellows out and practices deep breath exercises from getting angry.
  • Spanner in the Works: After being snitched on by Toni Deep a woman he had a fling with in season 1, he hires Marco Bosseli the son of Sal Bosseli to do the hit on her so he doesn't attract police attention. Sal and his partner Dominic kills Toni, but her husband gets into fight with Marco, and Dominic accidentally shoots and kills Marco, and gets shot by her husband. While in the hospital, Sal finds out that it was a failed hit that got his son killed, has his men suffocate Dominic and wanted Raq to give up Marvin, but she refused and he declared war on Thomas Family, which dissolves her operation in Jersey.

     Lou Lou Thomas 
The youngest brother of the Thomas Family and uncle to Kanan & Jukebox.He's the one that Raq relies on to get things done, and has aspirations to be in the music industry.
  • The Alcoholic: He becomes one after he realizes he can't escape from Raq control & manipulation, and losing his record label due to the feds investigating when he killed two of Sals men in a shootout.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After his drinking causes him to be a liability, Raq & Marvin drives him out the city where he thinks they're going to kill him, he pleads for them not do it. They were taking him to rehab to dry out.
  • Berserk Button: Strangles Crown Camacho to death for trying to cut him out as a partner for Bulletproof Records as Raq told him he came to her with the idea. Lou would find out through the bank that Raq inherited Crown 50% of the label after his death making her & Lou partners. This upsets him where he confronts Raq, and she tells that he doesn't own shit and everything he has is through her.
  • Cool Uncle: To Jukebox as they both are into music, as Jukebox is an aspiring singer and he gives her studio time.
  • Establishing Character Moment: He shed tears before killing D Wiz Kanan best friend to get the heat off of Kanan as Buck 20 people wanted revenge for his death. This event would make him want to get out of the drug game and focus on music.
  • Generation Xerox: His interest in music came from his father who was a jazz musician who he watched played as child.
  • Never My Fault: Blames Raq for not letting him out of her organization of crime and her making him kill Kanan best friend. Raq counteracts this saying is Lou is a grown man and every decision he makes is on him.
