A list of characters who appeared in the Phantom's Reckoning that started it all.
The main protagonist of the first Phantom's Reckoning. He was orphaned at birth and spent his life in the orphanage at age 13, at which point he ran away and was found by Alice Clare, at which point he joined the Phantom Guild. Now he finds himself in the middle of the battle against the Phantoms.

- Heroic BSoD: In the third act, once Black Death launches his first attack with the Phantom Breaker he lets it get to him that he failed Alice, and refuses to carry on, and by the end of the climax, he figures if you can't beat them, join them.
- Parental Abandonment: We never learn anything about the parents Rain might have had: all we know was he was orphaned.
The possible secondary protagonist of Phantom's Reckoning, Alice is an S-Rank in the Phantom Guild who has since taken Rain under her wing and made him her ally. She had a rough past involving her alcoholic father, but she doesn't want to open up to anyone about it.

- The Big Guy: Though she's also The Leader before Rain takes over that role following her death.
- Broken Bird: It's because of her aforementioned issues with her father that she refuses to open herself up to anyone. The only person she's close to is Rain and even then she's very hard to bond with.
- Defrosting Ice Queen / Not So Stoic: Prior to her death.
- Dual Wielding: She dual wields two large knives.
- Glass Cannon: She hits hard with her fire powers, but she sometimes lets her guard down.

- Poor Communication Kills: When she first confronts Shinji and later on Layla, she's more interested in rushing into a fight than actually taking the time to work things out.
- Tomboy: There are instances where she's not very ladylike.
- 24-Hour Armor
A samurai hailing from Shikashi, who first got involved with the Phantoms when his entire clan was killed mercilessly by the Phantoms. His investigation on the Phantoms has now lead him to Acerus where he hopes to avenge his fallen comrades.

Another main character who shows up at more or less the last minute. He is shady, but powerful in combat. He's also quite reluctant.

The main antagonist of Phantom's Reckoning 2, though he technically debuted in the first one, but only at the very end to serve as a Sequel Hook. He killed and dethroned his father to lead the Phantoms to victory himself, eventually becoming evil just because he likes it so much.

- Rule of Three: In 2, our heroes fight him three times during the story - one is fairly early on when they don't stand a chance. The other is towards the end, when they think this is the final battle, then the last time is pretty soon after in the real final battle.
