The Starless

    In General
A mysterious race of invaders who served as the basis for the DOLLS and the true threat that Zephetto had been preparing ARKS for through his experiments. Over 500 years after the defeat of the Profound Darkness, they mysteriously one day appeared in front of ARKS and quickly went on a campaign of destruction and genocide throughout the universe that resulted in 50 star systems and over 700 billion lives lost. However, one day much like how they first appeared, they mysteriously vanished.

500 years later, after the defeat of Zephetto by the Meteorn, Aina, and Manon, the Starless return once more seemingly intent on continuing their war against ARKS.

  • Ambiguously Evil: Despite their obvious hostility and being responsible for the deaths of billions, the motives of the Starless for attacking in the first place are a complete mystery. It's not known whether they do so out of malicious intent like the Falspawn before them, or if because they're simply following orders from a higher power similar to the DOLLS and Zephetto. They even vanished before they could finish the job during their first appearance.
  • Big Bad: As of Chapter 6, they've become this to the story of New Genesis, being the main reason why Zephetto carried out his experiments in the first place and supplanting him and the DOLLS as the primary threat that ARKS must defeat during the story.
  • Expy: Compared to the DOLLS, they're an even more obvious reference to the Falspawn from the original game, being a hostile race of invaders with similar design elements who are known for having committed genocide in the past.
  • Outside-Context Problem: They're this towards ARKS as their mysterious origins means no one knows what they are nor whey they came from. It's not even known if they're connected to the Falspawn and the Profound Darkness, or if they're even connected to the Photoners at all, like previous major antagonists in the original game were. Muddying things further is the implication that the Starless can create replicas of not only powerful Falspawn like Dark Ragne and Bryu Ringahda, but also the far stronger Falz Hyunal and Falz Angel.
  • Turns Red: In contrast to the DOLLS, the Starless start off red and turn purple.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Compared to the DOLLS and their robotic appearances, the Starless have more obviously sinister designs by having even darker colors and more beastly appearances in general.
    Major Starless
    Dark Falz Solus
The first Dark Falz created by the Starless, accessible via a portal that forms in Retem as of Chapter 6.
  • Expy: Of Dark Falz Luther, being a gigantic legless monstrosity with big arms and upside down wings.
  • Magic Staff: Uses one of these in its second phase. The staff itself is both a weak point and where many attacks come from, and at certain points is the only method available to deal damage to Solus.
  • Musical Spoiler: Hearing a different tune when that Urgent in Retem is announced? Dark Falz Solus Approaches.
  • Optional Boss: Is currently an optional endgame boss fight that has yet to factor into the story.
  • Unblockable Attack: The first such attack of its kind in the entire game - during its second phase it creates walls of cubes that it sends at the party. These cannot be bypassed by the dodge mechanic, or any damage-blocking/avoiding mechanic, instead you need to use the gaps in the wall to avoid taking damage.
