Unlike a lot of other textbooks, Perfect Match Primary Health Education is revolved around a cast of different characters.
The superfriends
The superfriends are the main characters of the books. They are a group of 6 Singaporean primary school students.
- Childhood Friends
- Five-Token Band: They are of different ethnicities. Somewhat of an Enforced Trope as the writers meant for them to represent the racial and cultural diversity of Singapore.
- True Companions: Are always there for each other, no matter what.
- Happiness is caring for others!
Haron is a well-built Malay boy who is the wise one in the group. He lives in an executive HDB flat with his parents and younger sister, Siti.
- IT makes the world go round!
Eileen is a computer whiz. She is a tall and slim Chinese girl who lives with her parents in a house.
- Asian and Nerdy: She is of Chinese descent and is the tech geek amongst the group.
- Angst? What Angst?: Does not seem to show any issues relating to her abuse in the 5th and 6th books.
- She may have been trying to hide it.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Was subject to minor sexual abuse at the very end of the 4th book.
- Girly Girl: Arguably, to Ting Ting's Tomboy.
- The Smart Guy: Are the most tech-savvy between the main 6.
- The Woobie: Along with the above, she also has to watch her parents argue.
- Reading broadens our horizons!
Arul is an outspoken Indian boy who loves reading and has a flair for languages. He lives with his parents, grandparents and younger sister in a house.
- Afraid of Needles: Does not look forward to the BCG vaccination for his very reason.
- Bollywood Nerd: Is of Indian descent and enjoys engaging in intellectual pursuits.
- Bookworm: Is established to be a fan of literature.
- Cunning Linguist
- Dreadful Musician: He once entered a school talent contest. It's safe to say that did not go well.
- Sleepyhead: He falls asleep in class when he doesn't eat his breakfast.
- It is better to give than to receive!
Lance is an expressive Eurasian boy whose best subject is Mathematics. He lives with his parents, elder brother and younger sister Lucille in a four-room HDB flat.
- A Friend in Need: Generous to a fault.
- But Not Too Foreign: Has mixed Asian and European ancestry.
- Middle Child Syndrome: Averted. His family does not give him trouble for being a middle child.
- Second Place Is for Losers: Thinks himself as a failure for getting 3rd place in a swimming competition.
- Stay fit for life!
Ting Ting is an athletic and sporty Chinese girl. She is the most active person among the superfriends. She lives in a three-room HDB flat with her grandmother who is her legally appointed guardian.
- Parental Abandonment: Implied.
- Raised by Grandparents: Only her grandmother.
- Tomboy: To Eileen's Girly Girl.
- Tomboyish Ponytail
- Nothing is impossible!
Harry is a European boy who does not allow his physical handicap to get in the way. Despite being wheelchair-bound, Harry is an independent go-getter. He lives with his mother in a condomonium.
- The Determinator: Wants himself and everyone else to do their best.
- Disappeared Dad: His mother is a single parent.
- Elegant Classical Musician: Plays the piano well, and occasionally plays in concerts.
- Inspirationally Disabled: Does not let his disability get in the way.
Other characters
- No Guy Wants an Amazon: Averted. He shows an interest to the athletic and tomboyish Ting Ting.
- Satellite Love Interest: Not much is known about him.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Annoys Haron from time to time.
- Dirty Old Man: Not old, per se, but definitely dirty.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: His fate was unknown, but it is believed that he is under police custody for what he did to Eileen.
