Otomo Yoshiaki
- "Some people like fighting. Some people are stupid. Some people own fiefs. There are cases where all three are true."
The Daimyo of the Otomo Clan at the begging of the story. Seen as a ruthless, cunning overlord by his enemies and by most of his allies, He converted alongside his entire clan to Catholicism to foster a stable relations, trade and a military alliance with the Portuguese. Leading his clan on the crucial first moments of the conquest, and quickly becomes the most dangerous man of the Sengoku Jidai.
He became the shogun in episode 25, and died of old age in episode 37.
- Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: He constantly betrays his own vassals once they are no longer needed, or throws them to the wolves.
- Never Bring a Knife to a Gun Fight: His weapon of choice for a duel with a rival was a matchlock. Guess what happened.
- Perpetual Frowner: This applies to most of the general avatars in game, but this especially fits his general mood.
- Promotion, Not Punishment: While he expects his orders to be followed to the letter, when the person disobeying his orders gives a valid reason and can show results, he is more than willing to forgive them, and even appreciate their action.
- That's an Order!: His general response to being questioned is this.
- Ungrateful Bastard: His reaction to Tsugutsura's success? Having him recalled in anger for disobeying orders. Averted. His real reason to calling him back in such a manner is to have an excuse to recall him to serve as a second without anyone getting the wiser.
Kobayaakwa Chikahuru
- "I'm getting old General. I have a place in my heart for old loyalties. I serve the Otomo family, and will do what is best for them. Whatever that is..."
A loyal Retainer of the Otomo Clan, he serves Lord Yoshiaki in their first battles. As samurai of the older sort, he objects to many of Yoshiaki's revolutionary tactics and controversial decisions, but remains loyal, much like his samurai code requires him to be. Nonetheless, he leads the Otomo in many great victories, and is generally capable and reasonable.
- The Chains of Commanding: The Constant warring has taken a toll on him. The constant atrocities committed in the war and the general misery of the era made him jaded and bitter.
- I Will Fight Some More Forever: Laments the fact that the other clans continue to fight, sending peasants to die in hopeless wars.
- My Master, Right or Wrong: He is loyal to the Otomo, specifically Yoshiaki, as his Daimyo. This loyalty extents to his children. For now.
