The Employee
It's you, the unfortunate protagonist who has no idea what sort of horror he just volunteered himself into.
- Determinator: Nothing will stop them from providing customer service and keeping the shelves restocked.
- First-Person Ghost: There's not much to see of the protagonist aside from his hands and arms.
- Mysterious Past: Who are they, why they want to work here in retail Hell, and how the Manager already knows them before the first day is unclear. They possibly have nowhere else to go, or they're searching for any clues to Lester's disappearance. That being said, in the update you can see his apartment and mail to pay the rent, making it clear that he is only working for the money.
- Nightmare Fetishist: Downplayed to a reasonable degree, but he is shown to have a fondness for horror games. On his backpack there's a Baldi keychain toy, but he doesn't share one of the consumer's enthusiasm for Fortnite, calling it a "stupid game".
- One-Man Army: Because Jimmy has abandoned ship, its up to you to man the fort alone. This does not go unnoticed by the Manager.
- Replacement Goldfish: It is heavily (and creepily) implied that you are this to the Manager, as his previous star employee, Lester, went missing some time ago. Or is he?
- Too Dumb to Live: A possible interpretation, as they are seem to be completely unfazed by the going-ons of this Eldritch Location. Jimmy fleeing the Consumers in their frenzy, then throwing up everywhere, to even finding the remains of an employee in a secret room.
- Featureless Protagonist: We only see their hands and arms. Never their face or any other hint of an actual body.
The Manager
Your boss. The enigmatic and very dangerous owner of the supermarket store you work in.
- Ambiguously Human: He gives off a rather sinister seemingly demonic vibe, right down to his erratic creepy breathing sounds. If you anger him, he'll run impossibly fast after you and glowing with an ominous yellow light. If you please him he'll refer to you, not as a fellow human, but as a specimen, which speaks volumes of how alien the guy is.
- Antagonist in Mourning: For all his wickedness, the Manager still seems to genuinely miss Lester working for him, even though he's very likely responsible for the latter's imprisonment and death.
- Bad Boss: If any of the Consumers complain about you, or the shelves aren't restocked by the end of the first shift, being fired is the least of your problems.
- Bald of Evil: Not a single strand of hair on his dome and is malicious, albeit subtly, to his employees.
- Big Bad: He is your controlling boss who forces you to please the nigh-unsatisfiable Consumers and kills you if you fail.
- Competition Freak: He prides himself on having the best store in town and will not tolerate any complaints from any of his customers.
- The Dreaded: Even Jimmy knew upsetting him was a very bad idea, and warns the player of this.
- His Name Really Is "Barkeep": The Manager's name is literally "The Manager."
- Perpetual Smiler: Never breaks his smile even when he's throttling you to death while firing you.
- Pet the Dog: You're late for work on your first day, but as you're new he decides to cut you a little slack.
- So Proud of You: A very creepy example. The Manager is impressed by your determination and wants to invite all the managers of all the other stores over, just to see you.
- You Have Failed Me: If you fail to do your job, he will hunt you down in the darkness. You can't fight back. You can't escape him either as he's chained all the doors shut.
Jimmy
Your co-worker. Or was supposed to be, until the unrelenting Consumers drove him to quit.
- Child Hater: Specifically the baby of the Alcoholic Parent consumer, and for good reason too.
- Dirty Coward: Knowing full-well what fate awaits you out on the store floor, you'd think he'd at least stick around with you for one shift before calling it quits. He abandons ship right away, but not before giving you a scribbled up piece of paper with notes to help you get through the shifts, but it doesn't prepare you all that much for the Consumers.
- Improbable Weapon User: It was his idea first to throw boxes at the Consumers to stun them.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Jimmy was supposed to help train you, but unable to cope any longer with the rude Consumers, the copious vomiting and shit stains, abandons ship.
- The Slacker: Compared to Lester.
- Stealth Expert: Jimmy often sought refuge in the staff-only rooms to evade the customers, and recommends you to do the same.
- Stress Vomit: He's unable to cope with the relentless, exceedingly rude Consumers anymore, spewing everywhere in the staff-only corridor before declaring he's at his breaking point and quits.
- Take This Job and Shove It: How he voices that he's quitting working at the store.
- Uncertain Doom: When you appreciate how monstrous the Manager is, its not certain Jimmy even escaped.
Lester
The previous Employee of the Month who mysteriously vanished without a trace.
- The Ace: He made the store run like clockwork, which is no small feat considering how challenging your first-shift is.
- Nice Guy: As seen in his photo Lester was always approachable and friendly, however many of the rude Consumers took advantage of that virtue.
- Teacher's Pet: As seen in his unflattering doodles, Jimmy resented Lester for always sucking up to The Manager.
- Uncertain Doom: If that skeleton in the hollowed-out space in the wall really is Lester, your fate in the hands of the Manager is very horrific.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: Throughout the game you hear mention of him, a worker who previously won The Manager's coveted Employee of the Month award, but he's absent and your boss laments on his disappearance. In one of the storerooms you can repeatedly hit a crumbling wall to expose a prison cell with someone's skeletal remains, chalked over the walls are warnings of 'Don't trust The Manager'.
