Straw Hat Pirates

    Monkey D. Luffy

"Straw Hat" Monkey D. Luffy: Captain of the Straw Hat Armada who seeks to succeed Gol D. Roger as Pirate King. His bounty is ฿99 million.

  • Big Eater: Inverted. In canon, Luffy ate with all the table manners and restraint of the mountain bandits who raised him. But Garp's training pounded that out of him, so now the rest of the core crew is this by habit while Luffy is well-behaved.
  • Cultured Badass: Luffy is able to quote ''Charge of the Light Brigade". The reason poetry was part of Garp's training is kept secret for our sanity's sake.
  • Dumbass No More: Luffy was an Idiot Hero in canon. This time around, he tricked his grandfather into training him in order to get back up to his New World strength. Garp trained his mind just as much as his body.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Luffy lampshades himself just at how similar he is to Garp.
  • Rubber Man: Courtesy of the Gum-Gum Fruit.
  • Training from Hell: He willingly submitted to eighteen months under his Drill Sergeant Nasty grandfather to get back up to New World shape. Then, when he formed the armada, he started putting everyone outside the core crew through the same training so that they would survive the Grand Line.

    Roronoa Zoro

Roronoa Zoro: Luffy's oldest and most loyal crewmate, a powerful swordsman who acts as first mate.

  • Blood Knight: He loves nothing more than a good fight.
  • Cool Sword: He carries three of these, one in each hand and one in his mouth.
  • Covered in Scars: He doesn't take Mihawk's title easily.
  • Friend to All Children: For someone who’s The Dreaded, Zoro is good with kids, something that Nami doesn’t understand.
  • The Lancer: If he's not officially the first mate, he fits the role perfectly.
  • World's Best Warrior: World's Greatest Swordsman, in this case; with the extra training time, Zoro manages to defeat Mihawk when they duel, claiming his life and his title.

    Nami

"Lightning Thief" Nami: Navigator and Treasurer of the Straw Hat Armada, her meteorology, cartography, and haggling skills have no equal. Her bounty is ฿20 million.

  • All Men Are Perverts: Despite the Clingy Jealous Girl entry below, Nami also has this belief, partially because of Sanji's actions and her thoughts about Luffy, and partially because she's jealous of Kaya and Usopp's relationship leaving her rather bitter about her own prospects.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: How Kaya sees her remarks towards Luffy's Chronic Hero Syndrome (Which according to canon only comes out to people he likes) seems to always come out around other women.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Shown most clearly in Chapters 12 and 13 towards Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday.
  • Love Cannot Overcome: According to her, her status as "pirate wench" pretty much kills her prospects at a fulfilling relationship
Nami: Not all of us can have a white knight in shining armor within walking distance. Where the hell is a pirate wench like me going to find someone like that? The closest I ever came in both timelines was Sanji and he just plays the part because he wants in my pants.
  • Money Fetish: And how.
  • Only Sane Man: She tries to delude herself into thinking she's still this. But a ways in, she accepts that her sanity cracked long ago.
  • Pirate Girl: Just like in canon, Nami unofficially holds the ranks of Quartermaster of the Main Strawhat Pirates and Chief-of-Staff for the entirety of the Armada, in spite of calling her self a mere "Pirate wench".
  • Red Baron: Her new timeline epithet is "Lightning Thief". She's not happy, because her former epithet of "Cat Burglar" was more cute than threatening, while her new epithet is distinctly threatening.
  • Shock and Awe: Her preferred method of fighting.

    Usopp

Usopp: Sniper and R&D Chief of the Straw Hat Armada, a master tactician, marksman, and inventor.

  • Adaptational Badass: Before, Usopp was a Lovable Coward. Now, he's a New World veteran with all the power to support that claim.
  • Brats with Slingshots: His weapon, and in his hands, it's more dangerous than a rifle, revolver, and flamethrower all rolled into one.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He was this before, but especially when he had to find some way to regain his New World strength without his Pop Greens.
  • Ignore the Fanservice: "Mistress" Kaya has basically trained Usopp to ignore any seduction attempts that do not come from her. She even checks using a Freudian Threat.

    Kaya

Kaya: A young woman formerly heiress to a wealthy estate, she joined the Straw Hat Pirates to sail with her boyfriend, Usopp.

  • Adaptational Badass: In the original story, she was a frail girl who literally worried herself sick after her parents' death. Now...she's basically an expy of Retsu Unohana: angelic, motherly, kindhearted, and at the same time so freaking scary that everyone except Luffy, Usopp and, to a lesser extent, Zoro are afraid of her.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In addition to being Promoted to Love Interest for Usopp, she’s a member of the Straw Hats in this story.
  • Cool Sword: Her weapon is a sabre that, according to her, is made of folded steel with gold filigree laid into the handle, and is perfectly balanced since the tang is nearly the full length of the blade. How skilled she is with using it is yet to be seen, but the fact that she was Zoro's first choice for passing on Yubashiri says enough.
  • Making Love in All the Wrong Places: Due to Alvida joining the main crew, Kaya decides to stop using the women's cabin for nightly dalliances with Usopp, this doesn't mean they'll stop.
  • Secret-Keeper: As far as we know, she's currently the only one outside of the original crew who knows about the time travel.
  • Split Personality: The angelic part of her and the horrifying, dominating part of her seem to be distinctly called "Daisy" and "Mistress" respectfully.
    • Split-Personality Takeover: "Mistress" has a tendency of forcibly taking over whenever a woman gets too close to Usopp. "Daisy" is somewhat aware of this, though it seems to be because she was told about it.

    Sanji

Sanji: Chef of the Straw Hat Pirates, his cooking skills are rivaled only by the strength of his kicks.

  • Chef of Iron: The only one who has any chance of rivaling his cooking skills is his foster father Zeff. And his kicks are strong enough to match up to Zoro.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Swoons over nearly every single woman and treats them favorably. In this story, indication is that he feels more attraction towards Nami, but doesn't make a move because he doesn't trust himself not to cheat on her if he does.
  • Extremity Extremist: As a chef, his hands are his life, so the most he uses them in fighting is for handstands; his fighting style revolves entirely around footwork.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: See Chivalrous Pervert for the reason behind this.

    Brook

Brook: Musician of the Straw Hat Pirates, a skeleton revived by a Devil Fruit whose music is as warming as his swordplay is chilling. His bounty, earned in his first life, is ฿33 million.

  • Chivalrous Pervert: A basis of his personality; on one hand, he has the mannerisms of a gentleman. On the other hand, he has a habit of bluntly asking women to show him their underwear.
  • Ghostly Chill: The true nature of his Devil Fruit powers enable him to channel the chill of the underworld, freezing his opponents as he cuts them.
  • Heroic Willpower: His stamina both in and out of battle revolves around this in this adaptation. Fatigue, slowness, and weakness all come from muscles...and Brook doesn't have any.
  • Master of Illusion: His mastery of music enables him to use it to hypnotize anyone who hears it.
  • Musical Assassin: He incapacitates all 100 bounty hunters on Whiskey Peak at once by hypnotizing them to the tune of Thriller, causing them all to see appropriate nightmarish imagery, and then calmly slicing down each of them one by one.
  • You Are Already Dead: His signature move is drawing his sword, walking past his victim, and then sheathing his sword. Then the victim erupts in blood and ice.

    Alvida

"Iron Mace" Alvida: Formerly an arrogant pirate, Luffy made enough of an impression on her to make her join him. Her bounty is ฿5 million.

    Laboon

Laboon: A titanic and intelligent island whale and Brook's old friend, the mascot of the Straw Hat Armada.

Buggy Pirates

    Buggy

Buggy "the Clown": Captain of the Buggy Pirates, a clown-themed pirate that once sailed with Gol D. Roger, he joined Luffy's armada at the promise of fame and fortune. His bounty is ฿15 million.

  • An Arm and a Leg: In his brief bout with Zoro, the Pirate Hunter cut off his foot with Haki. Luffy then crushed the foot into a small red ball. Buggy now has a peg in place of his lost foot.
  • Catchphrase: He has a tendency to use the word "flashy" in his sentences.
  • Detachment Combat: Courtesy of the Bara Bara no Mi (Chop-Chop Fruit), he can split his body apart at will, and is immune to any blades that aren't reinforced with Haki.
  • Flechette Storm: His ultimate technique developed with help from Usopp, Bara Bara Chainsaw, involves dozens of knives sticking to magnets in his body and then spinning rapidly.
  • Hidden Depths: This fic is a lot more blatant about the fact that Buggy has to have some expertise in chemicals, considering that he not only created a cannonball with much more explosive force than normal, but managed to compress it down to the size of a marble. And then he starts brainstorming with Usopp...
    • There's also the fact that he apparently takes such good care of his hair because his mother loved to brush it, and it's his way of remembering her.
  • Monster Clown: His entire schtick is this. He was born with a red clown-like nose, and he apparently made the insults of others a shield until he was strong enough to shut them up.
  • Seen It All: As the only guy in the Armada who went the whole way on the Grand Line, his only reaction to the insane weather right after entering it is warning his crew that the New World is worse.
Buggy: You think that was bad? There's an island in the New World where it rains lightning.
Larry: (thinking Buggy is joking to lift his spirit) Right. And there is also an island where you can run on the wind?
Buggy: (deadpan) You think you're joking.

    Cabaji

Cabaji: Buggy's chief of staff, a skilled acrobat and swordsman.

  • Cool Sword: His weapon. As of Chapter 13, the sword in question is Yubashiri as a gift from Zoro.

    Mohji

Mohji: Buggy's first mate, a beast tamer.

    Ritchie

Ritchie: Mohji's pet lion.

    Kadoo

Kadoo: Nurse of the Buggy Pirates

  • Only Sane Man: Seems to be this to an extent.
  • Super-Senses: Despite being half-deaf and on another ship entirely, she was able to hear conversations and respond to them. In fact, considering she's the only member of the Buggy Pirates to be adversely affected by cannon fire, her having sensitive hearing may have contributed to her deafness in the first place.

Black Cat Pirates

    Jango

"One-Two" Jango: Formerly first mate of the Black Cat Pirates, he took over command when his captain Kuro retired. A master hypnotist, he joined Luffy's armada after Luffy proved Kuro's treachery. His bounty is ฿16 million.

  • Berserk Button: Unless you outclass Jango by a wide margin, do not call him stupid.
  • Hidden Depths: The reason behind his Berserk Button: unwilling hypnosis requires in-depth knowledge of psychology and physiology, and he's mastered the craft. Kuro only got away with it because he was leagues above Jango.
  • Hypno Pendulum: His chakrams double as the key tools for his hypnosis.
  • Rings of Death: His weapons are chakrams, sharp enough to cut down trees with one slice.

    Nyaban Brothers

Nyaban Brothers: The top two fighters of the crew, the slim and graceful Siam and the obese but powerful Buchi.

  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: A common tactic for them to use is pose as sobbing cowards in combat to make their opponents drop their guards, then striking once they're in point-blank range. They did this to Zoro in canon, but after the Straw Hats decimate the full force of the rest of the crew in two seconds flat, they immediately and genuinely surrender.
  • Hidden Depths: Buchi turns out to be the navigator of the crew.
  • Wolverine Claws: Their weapons are gloves with two-inch steel claws on each fingertip.

Krieg Pirates

    Gin

"Devil-Man" Gin: Formerly Don Krieg's first commander, he joined Luffy as captain of the Krieg Pirates to repay a debt after the latter easily killed Don Krieg. His bounty is ฿17 million.

  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: He was a harsh taskmaster under Krieg. Now that he's the captain, he's only gotten more intense.
  • Undying Loyalty: He had this to Don Krieg at first, but after seeing his captain act as an Ungrateful Bastard to the ones who saved his life and Luffy killing him with a Shigan—and all of this after he acted as a good Samaritan to Gin—every bit of that loyalty switches to the Straw Hat Armada.

Baratie Chefs

    Zeff

Chef Zeff: Formerly Red-Leg Zeff, captain of the Cook Pirates, he settled down to found the Baratie sea restaurant, but Luffy's charisma convinced him to join the Armada.

  • Chef of Iron: He taught Sanji everything he knew about cooking and martial arts; of course he's this.
  • Retired Badass: He once sailed the Grand Line for a full year and got his epithet from staining his feet with opponents' blood. And despite his claims, losing his leg didn't weaken him in the slightest.
  • Resigned to the Call: He thought that he was done with Paradise of the Grand Line, however, Luffy pretty much tells him someone from the Grand Line could never be happy in any of the Blues after that.
