The titular protagonist. A hard-working thoriphant who goes on a quest to find the upright thoriphants.- Action Dad: Mosley is a very loving father to Rue, his older son and Rosie, his younger daughter, throughout the film, he rebels against his owner and sets off to find the upright thoriphants. Even though he has to face a hunter who enslaved his people.
- Character Development: Over the course of the movie, he becomes braver and begins to stand up for others and himself.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Was separated from his mother and sold off to Simon in an auction.
Rue

- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Responsible Sibling to Deaver's Foolish Sibling.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is very stern and uptight, but deep down, he still cares about those around him.

- Cool Old Guy: He shows Mosley the joys of having hands.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: The Foolish Sibling to Warnie's Responsible Sibling
- Older Than They Look: Despite being younger and less mature than Warnie, he is over 104 years old.

The grumpy owner of Mosley, Bera and Rue. A bad-tempered farmer- Bad People Abuse Animals: He is a grumpy peasant who is very harsh on Mosley and his family. While negotiating, Mosley tells that the field is too rocky to plow, but Simon ignores him, so he throws a rock at him and forces him to leave.
- Catchphrase: "Come on now!"
- Pet the Dog: He is called by Rue to help Bera in her labor.
Warfield
The main antagonist. He is a ruthless and determined bounty hunter of thoriphants.
Voiced by: Temuera Morrison
- Big Bad: He serves as Mosley's main foe throughout his quest.
- Big "NO!": He shouts this when he is locked in the Great Orchard, after the Guardian saves Mosley.
- Implacable Man: When hired by Bemus, he is determined to hunt down Mosley at all costs.
- Knight of Cerebus: The film gets more serious whenever he is around. Not to mention he is never played for laughs.
Bemus
- Voiced by: John Phillips
- Honest John's Dealership: He is very dishonest salesman, he sells Simon a rocky plowing field that only causes his plow to break. He is also shown to have sold very faulty, if not fraudulent, medical ointment to other people.
