Ultimate Zero
Strong-Corona Zero
Luna-Miracle Zero
Shining Zero
The son of Ultraseven. An exceptionally powerful young Ultra, he was banished from the Land of Light after attempting to steal the planet's power source, the Plasma Spark. After years of training under Ultraman Leo, he eventually returned and proved himself a worthy hero in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends. Afterwards, he would begin trekking the multiverse, pursuing after all sorts of powerful villains, clashing with Belial time and time again. He has since become one of the most important Ultras in the Ultra Series, frequently crossing over into other series, most notably Ultraman Geed, where he is one of the main characters. He has no single human host, but always uses the Ultra Zero Eye to transform.
  • The Ace: Zero is practically an ideal Ultra, being strong, powerful, having many friends, has defeated countless evils throughout the years and in various universes and on top of that has managed to save the Multiverse several times over. Though this does not apply to his academic skills, however.
  • Anatomy Arsenal: Like his father before him, Zero has multitude of weaponized body parts to employ:
    • First, the iconic Eye Slugger, only that Zero has two instead of one and he can control both to not only employ as ranged weapons but also combine them into a sword.
    • His forehead has his own version of the Emerium Beam just like his father's.
    • He can also use the Wide Shot with his arms in an L-pose.
    • His kicks can be set on fire to increase in striking power (thanks to training from Ultraman Leo).
  • And I Must Scream: When Belial takes over his body in Ultra Zero Fight, Zero can only helplessly watch as Belial wrecks havoc and kill his teammates with his body. He manages to free himself from this through Heroic Willpower and his Shining Ultraman Zero transformation.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Ultraman Belial. Ever since Zero defeated the evil Ultra in Ultra Galaxy Legends, the two have been rather fierce foes and Belial will often target Zero in plots of revenge or even in plots that didn't involve Zero once the latter gets involved.
  • Battle Boomerang: His Twin Sluggers serve as this, as he can throw them to fight opponents form a distance and then they return to him. He can do a variety of tricks with their paths as well, and they can also be deflected, but even then they'll always go back to him.
  • Berserk Button: Has a few.
    • He does not like seeing bullies or powerful people tormenting others with their strength instead of protecting them.
    • Anyone who treats their "friends" as trash or holds standards for who they can consider that also earn his ire.
    • He does not like being called "foolish".
  • Bifurcated Weapon: A variation. His Zero Twin Sluggers can combine into a large blade.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Takes this role towards other younger Ultras, particularly most of the New Generation Heroes who all look up to him as a big brother thanks to his mentorship, help and advice to them.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: Wastes no time in telling his opponents that he's a strong and powerful warrior before or during fights.
  • Book Dumb: Zero isn't really "dumb" in the classic definition, but he's got a bad case of preferring to do things in the heat of the moment instead of thinking them through much. Ultraman Z voice dramas would even reveal that he skipped the Land of Light's school, causing him to not know basic information such as Neronga's invisibility and causing his student, Ultraman Z, to flunk out on an exam because of Zero's lack of knowledge on topics.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Has a habit of doing so in Ultra Zero Fight. It would be carried on to future appearances and is now a staple of his character.
  • Catchphrase: You're 20,000 years too early to defeat me!
  • Character Development: Zero starts out as a cocky and rebellious Ultra who only understands physical strength and nothing else. After his years of training under Ultraman Leo he grows kinder and eventually wiser throughout his following adventures in the franchise. By the time of Ultraman Z he's left most of his older flaws behind and shows far more skill in leadership and understanding what is it like to be an Ultraman.
  • Character Tics: He tends to wipe his mouth with his thumb before a fight.
  • Chest Blaster: His Zero Twin Shoot attack, which fires a large beam from the Twin Sluggers when they are mounted on his chest. He can shoot a stronger version as Zero Beyond.
  • Containment Clothing: The Techtor Gear was a suit that he wore during his exile, which limited his strength and outright nullified his other Ultraman powers, including flight.
  • Cool Big Bro: Tends to act as this for his teammates and younger Ultras that he assists, with many of them looking up to him and admiring his many deeds.
  • Critical Annoyance: After adopting a human host, he's had to contend with the three-minute rule all Ultras had to face with his color timer blinking whenever his time is running out.
  • Curbstomp Battle:
    • In his debut, he dishes one of these to Belial and his army, disarming him with ease and then blasting him into the magma rivers of the Monster Graveyard right after plowing through the remnants of his 100 Monster Army in minutes.
    • Revenge of Belial shows him easily defeating Belial's Legionoids whenever he confronts them, he also shoots down the Spaceship carrying Darklopses with ease.
    • In Ultraman Saga he deals with a whole army of Legionoids very quickly at the start of the film.
    • Before facing the Four Beast Warriors of Hell in Ultra Zero Fight, Zero has to fight four lower-tier monsters, also revived by Alien Bat Gurashie - Bemular, Gudon, Sadola and Telesdon. Zero wrecks all four of them in under a minute.
  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The Shining Star Drive from Shining Zero allows him to reverse time and even create pocket dimensions, but it cost him a lot of energy, which can tire him out for days.
  • Demonic Possession: Suffers this in Ultra Zero Fight when Belial Body Surfs into Zero's body after the latter defeats him as Armored Darkness Belial, trapping Zero within his own body and changing Zero's appearance to match his own. Zero manages to use his Shining form to kick out Belial's spirit.
  • Dimensional Traveler: Though at first he could only move between worlds with assistance from other Ultras, after obtaining his Ultimate Aegis, Zero is capable of travelling to other worlds freely.
    • He travels to the Reverse Space World in Revenge of Belial and returns back to the World of the Land of Light once he defeats Belial in there.
    • In Ultraman Saga he travels to the universe where the film takes place to combat Hyper Zetton, meeting Ultraman Cosmos and Dyna along the way before returning to his own universe after Hyper Zetton is defeated.
    • In Ultraman Ginga S: The Movie he travels to the World of Spark Dolls to confront Etelgar and rescue the captured Ultras.
    • Ultraman X has him arriving at the World of Ultra Flare to capture Alien Nackle Bandero and his Black King, in the movie he returns in order to help fight the threat of Zaigorg and his minions.
    • In Ultraman Geed he and other Ultras arrived at the World of Side Space where Belial's Crisis Impact and Omega Armageddon took place, after King saved the Universe by merging with it Zero returned to deal with the various threats in it, bonding with human salaryman Reito Igaguri. He left the world once Belial was defeated for good. He returns much later with the Ultimate Force Zero in order to confront the threat of Gillvalis.
    • Ultraman Taiga has him travel to the World of Taiga to assist his cousin by giving the Plasma Zero-let to fight stronger foes before leaving back to the Land of Light.
    • Ultraman Z features him and the titular Ultra chasing the Kaiju Genegarg to the World of Ultra Medals where he ends up temporarily trapped into a black hole, after breaking free and then helping Z and Geed defeat Celebro's Belial Fusion Beasts he leaves for good to resume fighting the threat of the Absolutians.
    • Absolute Conspiracy has him travelling to the World of U40 in order to recruit Ultraman Joneus into the M78 Ultra's cause against Absolute Tartarus.
  • Dimension Lord: As Shining Ultraman Zero one of his powers is to create pocket dimensions in which he can alter the flow of time to either go slower or faster than outside, which can help him when he needs to train someone for months in what would otherwise be a few hours or days.
  • Establishing Character Moment: We first see him as a stubborn short-tempered youth who only believes in physical strength getting some humility beaten into him by Leo. Yet, during his spar, when he notices an innocent Pigmon lingering nearby, he gruffly warns it to stay away. Though he's still rough around the edges, this shows us that deep down, he does have a good heart.
  • Generation Xerox: In Ultraman Geed he ends up in a similar position to the one his father, Ultraseven, was stuck in himself in Ultraman Leo as his Transformation Trinket ends up damaged, leaving him weaker than he would usually be and forced to take on a mentor role towards a young Ultra. Unlike his father, however, he could at least still transform into his Ultra form during that time.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: His most powerful forms all have a golden glow to them. Shining Ultimate Zero can manipulate time, Zero Beyond Galaxy Glitter takes the capacities of the Beyond form up a notch and Ultimate Shining Zero combines the abilities of Ultimate Zero and Shining Zero, though it's also a Dangerous Forbidden Technique.
  • Good Counterpart: To Belial, both were heroic Ultras who grew ambitious and uncaring and very nearly stole the Plasma Spark to empower themselves and were banished from the Land of Light for it. However, eventually Zero was able to learn better and redeemed himself from his actions. Also while Belial surrounds himself with minions but sees them as disposable pawns at best, Zero surrounds himself with many friends he's made through the years and will give his life for them.
  • Guardian of the Multiverse: After the events of Revenge of Belial Zero took on this role following the creation of the Ultimate Force Zero, as he and his teammates patrol the Multiverse looking out for threats to it. This in turn usually leads him to be a guest star in various of the New Generation shows, usually following a criminal from a different universe into the one where the New Gen show takes place in.
  • Finishing Move: Has a bunch depending on the form.
    • In his base form he has the Wide Zero Shot, a beam fired form his chest with his Eye Sluggers empowering it.
    • As Ultimate Zero he can use Ultimate Zero Finale, a charged attack fired with the Ultimate Aegis in a bow-like fashion.
    • As Shining Ultimate Zero he instead gets a stronger version of his Wide Zero Shot.
    • As Zero Beyond he also gets a stronger version of his Zero Shot named Beyond Zero Shot.
  • Forced to Watch: Zero's mind is still there when Belial forcibly fuses with him into Zero Darkness, but he's powerless to prevent his teammates from being killed and descends into the Despair Event Horizon once all of them are killed.
  • Former Teen Rebel: When he was younger, Zero had a rebellious un-lawful streak and preferred to get stronger through simple fighting rather than learning any values of it. It culminated in him trying to take the Plasma Spark in a misguided attempt to become stronger, only to be stopped and arrested by the Ultra Brothers and then sent to be disciplined by Ultraman Leo for years through Training from Hell which ended up helping shape him into a more responsible figure in spite of retaining some rebellious attitudes.
  • Fusion Dance:
    • In Ultraman Saga, Zero fuses with Dyna and Cosmos in order to form Ultraman Saga, as means of being able to stop Hyper Zetton.
    • Ultraman Geed sees him using the New Generation Capsules of Ginga, Victory, Ultraman X and Ultraman Orb to become Zero Beyond.
    • Ultraman Z has a form shown only in supplementary material where he uses the Ultra Medals of Ultraman, Ultraseven and Ultraman Ace to become Gransaberd Zero.
  • Healing Hands: Zero can employ his Ultraman light to purify other living beings of evil influence and energies, such as freeing Mirror Knight from Belial's dark plague.
  • Henshin Hero: Per tradition for Ultras, Zero is this, he usually transforms with the help of human hosts that he meets in his adventures, with his definite host seemingly being Reito Igaguri. A few stage shows depict him instead taking on a human form to walk around, known as Shin Moroboshi.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Has had a few throughout the years.
    • In Revenge of Belial he keeps up Mirror Knight's shield to block Arch Belial's Deathcium Beam and very nearly dies when his Color Timer runs out, he's luckily resurrected by Ultraman Noa and given power to transform into Ultimate Zero.
    • In Geed he sacrifices himself in the aptly-titled episode 7, "Sacrifice", to protect Reito Igaguri from Kei. He gets better as well.
  • Heroic Willpower: When Belial possesses him and kills almost all of his teammates, Zero's will eventually lets him expulse the spirit of his nemesis from his body and achieve his Shining Ultraman Zero form.
  • Hot-Blooded: Even after Character Development, Zero remains a hot-headed Ultra who rushes into battle with all due excitement and is not above trash-talking, quiping and calling his attacks.
  • Idiot Hero: Befitting his Shonen hero-like traits, Zero isn't exactly the most throughtful person ever and often tends to suffer some blunders as a result of his recklessness
  • Imposed Handicap Training: Zero was trained by Leo this way, placing a restrictive suit on him while sparring in order to help develop his skills and strength without relying on his powers while simultaneously learning life lessons from his mentor.
  • In-Universe Factoid Failure: Aside from the implication that he didn't attend school, Zero seems to lack knowledges on certain monsters such as Neronga and misinterpreted Sevenger's owner being Leo instead of his crippled (at the time) father. The latter came to bite him when Z failed the entrance exam for Space Garrison because of it.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: His first use of Shining Star Drive left him not only exhausted, but unable to remember the events up until that point.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: His usual Character Tic is a firm indication that Zero's about to stop playing around and is instead going to take the next fight very seriously.
  • Light Is Good: In contrast to his dark archnemesis, Belial, Zero continues the Ultraman's usual theme of representing light and the side of good. All of his most powerful transformations take the light aspect up a notch.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Like all Ultras, Zero is both fast enough to mow down armies of monsters without breaking a sweat and becomes even faster when flying, and strong enough to handle and outmuscle even mighty foes such as Red King.
  • Loved by All: All the New Generation Ultra Heroes look up to him. Most notable are Ginga, Victory, X, Orb, Geed, Ultrawoman Grigio and The Tri-Squad. He even gets a fanboy desiring to be his apprentice in Ultraman Z.
  • Magnetic Hero: Zero in general is a friend magnet, starting with his rival-turned-friend, GlenFire, then with the other members of the Ultimate Force Zero. Later he becomes friends with Ultraman Dyna and Cosmos, the New Generation Ultras and various other characters such as his third human host, Reito Igaguri and Reito's family.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: A non-fatal example in Ultraman Z, he gets sucked inside a black hole at the hands of a Bullton fired at him by Genegarg while he's chasing the latter monster and ends up forced to entrust Ultraman Z with the Ultra Medals and his Z-Riser. He eventually frees himself from this fate by using Shining Star Drive and comes back in the series to assist his pupil against Celebro's Belial Fusion Beasts.
  • Multiform Balance: In the Ultra Zero Fight segment of Ultraman Retsuden, he gains this ability thanks to Dyna's and Cosmos' powers which he gained after their fusion into Ultraman Saga. In addition to his pre-existing power-ups and then some
    • Mighty Glacier: Strong Corona, a combined power of Cosmos' Corona Mode and Dyna's Strong Type. With fiery power from Cosmos Corona Mode and powerful attacks from Dyna Strong Type, it specializes in exerting great force in hand-to-hand combat.
    • Fragile Speedster: Luna Miracle, a combined power of Cosmos' Luna Mode and Dyna's Miracle Type. With a soft heart and energy abilities from Ultraman Cosmos Luna Mode and speed from Ultraman Dyna Miracle Type, it exists for energy attacks, high speed battles and ending conflicts with no bloodshed.
    • Super Mode: Ultimate Zero, which he gained in Revenge of Belial with the power of the Shield of Baradhi; in Ultraman Geed he gains Ultraman Zero Beyond as replacement for most of his lost transformations, which he achieves with the New Generation Capsules (using the power of Ginga, Victory, X and Orb) and combining them with his Ultra Zero Eye.
  • Missing Mom: The identity of his mother is so far unknown with even supplementary materials having no mention of who she is.
  • My Hero, Zero: He's called Ultraman Zero and is one of the most powerful Ultra warriors of all time.
  • Next Tier Power-Up: Zero is probably the Ultraman that plays the trope the straightest out of them all, his base form is weaker than his Ultimate Zero form and then this form is surpassed by both Shining Ultraman Zero and Zero Beyond, which in turn are small potatoes next to Ultimate Shining Zero and Zero Beyond Galaxy Glitter, respectively.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Using Shining Star Drive allows him to bring back his deceased teammates after Zero Darkness (him while possessed by Belial) killed them but he unwittingly resurrected Belial and Jahtar while at it.
  • One-Man Army:
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends Zero brings down all of the remaining members of Belial's 100 Monster Army that his fellow Ultras hadn't killed yet and then takes down Belial, a One-Man Army himself.
    • In Ultraman Saga Zero plows through a massive army of Legionoids all by himself.
  • The Paragon Always Rebels: He was a powerful and impressive Ultraman since childhood, but this fed his ego and belief in strength and he arrogantly tried to take the Plasma Spark to empower himself, only to be stopped by the Ultra Brothers, arrested and then exiled. However following some Training from Hell courtesy of Ultraman Leo he was able to redeem himself and turned back to the light.
  • Playing with Fire: Has shown a limited usage of fire to boost his attacks, not unlike his mentor, Leo. Also his Garnet Buster in Strong Corona mode is a beam of fire.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Either "You're 20,000 years too early to defeat me" or "I won't forgive what you've done" precede him giving a beatdown. In his first appearance it was instead "Zero, Ultraman Zero. The son of Seven!" which he said to Belial before mowing down the remnants of his 100 Monster Army and then Belial himself.
  • Power Limiter: The Techtor Gear he was forced to wear during his Training from Hell at Ultraman Leo's hands served this purpose, restraining most of Zero's power to prevent the young Ultra from trying to rely on his powers and instead fight hand-to-hand. If Zero tries to exert power, the armor tightens further and further, limiting him even more.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: His speed allows him to throw punches faster than opponents can react to them, allowing him to overwhelm foes with sheer speed.
  • Red Is Heroic: Like all Ultras from the red tribe, he's got red in his color scheme and he's a valiant hero of justice, despite starting out as an immature power-hungry warrior.
  • Reset Button: Shining Star Drive can do this, as it reverses time and Zero can use it to undo certain events that he desires, such as death or even to nullify a black hole and escape it.
  • Secret Legacy: For most of his youth up until the events of Ultra Galaxy Legends, he had no idea that he was the son of Ultraseven, and by extension a family member of Ultraman Taro, Father of Ultra and Mother of Ultra. Ultraman King reveals this to him when Seven calls for Zero's help during his fight in the Monster Graveyard.
  • School Is for Losers: In his rebellious youth and even after, he tends to view school in a negative light and never finished resuming his studies, even after his redemption and return to the Land of Light following his exile. This ended up biting him in the butt as shown in Ultraman Z voice dramas where the titular Z ended up flunking an exam because Zero gave him some uninformed academic help.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: In Ultra Zero Fight after Alien Hipporito Jathar manages to get the drop on Zero and petrify Zero's right arm into bronze, the alien began gloating on his superiority and how much more powerful he is than the Ultraman. Zero interrupts Jathar by shoving a bronze fist into the alien's face.
  • So Last Season: His techniques or forms gained in an installment tend to be rendered useless or not quite as effective in a following one.
    • In Revenge of Belial his Sluggers, firey kick and Wide Zero Shot fail to defeat Belial and Zero even loses the Beam-O-War with his finishing move and Belial's Deathcium Burst. Belial even lampshades it.
    • In Ginga S: The Movie his Final Ultimate Zero is shrugged off by Etelgar, who comes out unscathed from it.
    • He is beaten again by Belial but this time in his Ultimate Zero Form during the Crisis Impact before the events of Geed.
  • Spin-Offspring: Zero is the son of the iconic Ultraseven and the main character of his own sub-franchise of movies and series depicting his many adventures.
  • Stock Shōnen Hero: The most pronounced of the Ultras in regards to this, Zero's hot-blooded, somewhat lacking in the intelligence department due to skipping school (though he isn't exactly dumb so much as lazy), has had many rivals that became his friends (such as GlenFire), befriended some foes (Jean-Killer), and also had Character Development allowing him to mature. He also enjoys naming his attacks as he fights.
  • Superior Successor: As powerful as his father is, Zero proved himself stronger and eventually surpasses his old man in terms of heroism and actions, saving the entire Multiverse from various threats. Furthermore, his debut movie has him defeat Ultraman Belial alone when everyone else who fought him could not. And he has two Eye Sluggers instead of one like Seven.
  • Super-Empowering: He used to be on the receiving end of the trope. But starting with the New Generation shows, he instead is now the provider with him giving new abilities and artifacts to the New Generation Ultramen to use or even copies of his own weapons and forms.
  • Super Mode: Ultimate Zero in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, Shining Ultraman Zero in Ultra Zero Fight, and Ultraman Zero Beyond in Ultraman Geed. In Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy he combines the first two as Ultimate Shining Ultraman Zero.
  • Super Power Lottery: Zero has quite the amount of abilities, with his repertoir expanding with each new form.
    • In his base form he can fly, produce fire on his limbs for attacks, move faster than eyesight and sound, use his Eye Sluggers as projectiles separately, use a multitude of beams from either his forehead, chest or arms, use his light to purify evil from other people and on top of that can empower others or possess them.
    • As Ultimate Zero he retains all previous abilities but can open dimensional portals, slice planets with one strike, charge light projectiles that can obliterate almost anything, employ a sword-like hand attack, create shields, and intrude in waves to communicate with people even between dimensions.
    • As Shining Zero he can stop time, reverse it, create pocket dimensions where time flows slower, evaporate spirits and even escape from black holes.
    • As Zero Beyond his abilities are amplified and gains new ones such as the Balkley Chorus, which uses his Sluggers to produce soundwaves strong enough to blast opponents apart, can modify it to simply produce loud noises that harmlessly move beings around, can also produce forcefields to trap opponents in and even combines his Balkley Chorus and Sluggers in one overwhelming attack.
  • Super-Strength: Naturally as an Ultra this ability is one of his common ones, he has enough strength to lift heavier beings than himself with ease and toss them into the air. Even when he's only 5 meters tall and far weaker as a result of a botched attempt at trying to cooperate with his then human host, Nozomu Taiga at transforming, he's still able to lift the 30,000 ton Gomess in Ultraman Saga.
  • Symbiotic Possession: Like most other Ultras, Zero does this with humans that he views as being brave and selfless. Though he has done this a total of three times throughout the franchise so far.
  • Talking Your Way Out: In Revenge of Belial during his first encounter with GlenFire Zero has no interest in fighting the fire warrior due to seeking out the Shield of Baradhi, but GlenFire won't listen to a "wimp" and challenges Zero to a fight, which Zero only reluctantly complies to. After taking a beating from GlenFire, Zero decides he's had enough and completely foregoes this option.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: He often says a variation of this to Belial when he's reached his Rage Breaking Point with the actions of the evil Ultra.
"I won't forgive what you've done!"
  • Time Master: Shining Ultraman Zero has the ability to rewind time for everything in the local vicinity or form pocket dimensions where time moves faster than normal.
  • Training from Hell: After his failed attempt at taking the Plasma Spark, he was put under the mentorship of Ultraman Leo, being subjected to harsh training with a power-restraining armor to teach him discipline and true strength. He himself had his chance of putting Ginga and Victory through this in Ginga S: The Movie inside of a pocket dimension he made as Shining Ultimate Zero.
  • Transformation Trinket: Like his father before him, his own device takes the form of glasses called the Ultra Zero Eye. His hosts transform with them by placing them on their face.
  • Tsundere: Towards Ultraman Z, his self-proclaimed pupil, Zero will not usually acknowledge or even treat him as his student but shows that he does care about the younger Ultra and deep down does want to somewhat mentor the Ultra, even getting jealous when Mebius jokingly offers to take Z under his tutelage when the former sees Zero reject Z.
  • Tsurime Eyes: He has noticeably sharp, angular eyes compared to most Ultras, which reflect his hot-blooded personality and cocky, confident attitude. On a darker note, his eyes also makes him look menacing and almost evil, fitting how he would've become a second Belial if not for Seven and Leo's intervention.
  • The Worf Barrage: In Ginga S: The Movie, his Ultimate Aegis' final attack is shrugged off by Etelgar, with the demoniac villain merely losing his scarf but otherwise coming out unscathed from it.
  • The Worf Effect: Often is subjected to this.
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends he is overwhelmed (along with his fellow Ultras and ZAP Spacy) by Belyudra and requires a boost from the Plasma Spark to finish off the colossal kaiju fusion.
    • He is soundly overwhelmed by both Kaiser Belial and Arch Belial in Revenge of Belial, and in fact is nearly killed by the latter draining his life-force.
    • Ultraman Saga has him getting defeated by Imago Hyper Zetton and nearly killed many times over by the Zetton mutant's power.
    • Ultraman Geed has the resurrected Belial defeat him even in his Ultimate Zero form, which also damages his Zero Bracelet and leaves him severely weakened for the remainder of the series until Hikari fixes his device.
  • Worf Had the Flu: For most of Ultraman Geed he has a less impressive showing than usual, mainly owed to him being severely weakened after his loss against Belial in the Crisis Impact that left his Zero Bracelet heavily damaged.
  • Years Too Early: His catchphrase has him telling his opponents that they're 20,000 years off the mark to fight/defeat him.

    Ultimate Force Zero
Ultraman Zero's friends and members of his multiverse-protecting superhero crew. He first encountered them in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial while travelling through an alternate universe in search of the fallen Ultraman, who had fled to that dimension to make it his own to rule. They tend to reappear alongside Zero from time to time.

As a whole:

  • Badass Crew: Two alien warriors and a transforming robot from an alternate universe, as well as said robot's "younger brother" (originally an Evil Knockoff of it), being led by one of the strongest Ultra warriors in franchise history to travel across the multiverse and battle its most dangerous threats.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble:
    • Sanguine — Ultraman Zero, an undisciplined, extraverted and adventurous Ultra who serves as the protagonist and leader of the force. Has Superpower Lottery to match his creativity and outward adventure instinct.
    • Choleric — GlenFire, a short-tempered, cocky, trash-talking hothead not afraid to charge into battle and bring harm to his foes with fire and destructive powers to match his energy.
    • Melancholic — Jean-Bot, a reserved, disciplined and level-headed warrior who at times finds himself exasperated by the antics of his teammates, his attacks are based on calculated strikes and waiting for the right chance to fight befitting his calmer demeanor.
    • Phlegmatic — Mirror Knight, a calm, quiet and orderly young warrior who carries a level of mystery to himself and has defensive and reflective powers to match his personality.
  • Guardian of the Multiverse: As whole their group protects the Multiverse from evil aliens, monsters and other oddities that threaten it.

Mirror Knight

Voiced by: Hikaru Midorikawa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mirrorknight.png
A warrior from the Planet of Mirrors (a giant cosmic mirror that contains a whole world in it) long tasked with defending the allied world of Esmeralda. He was captured and enslaved by Belial when the dark Ultra warrior invaded his universe and looted Esmeralda but after Zero and his allies freed him, he has become a steadfast ally of the Ultraman.
  • Attack Reflector: A great deal of his abilities work this way. He can also use them to reflect his own attacks
  • Barrier Warrior: His Mirror Dome allows him to create reflective force fields around his targets. They're strong enough to hold back things such as Belial's Mothership, Arch Belial's Deathcium Beam and almost anything.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Is partially brought under Belial's control after being defeated by him. Only the leaders of the Planet of Mirrors sealing him under their world's ocean kept him from turning wholly evil. Thankfully, Zero purifies him.
  • Finishing Move: His is the Silver Cross, a giant cross-shaped bolt of light.
  • Hand Blast: Can perform numerous of these.
  • Homage: Based on a previous hero created by Tsuburaya Productions called Mirrorman.
  • Light Is Good
  • Master of Illusion: Can create illusory reflections to throw off his foes and gain an advantage in battle or protect his teammates.
  • Non-Human Humanoid Hybrid: His father was a denizen of the Planet of Mirrors and his mother was from the planet Esmeralda.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: When he was under Belial's control.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: The side stories reveal that Mirror Knight somewhat struggles with self-esteem. He blames himself for being unable to save Zero from Belial's possession; unlike how Zero managed to successfully do the same for him when he was under Belial's forced control.

Jean-Bot

Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jean_bot.png

A sentient robot able to transform into a spaceship known as the Jean-Bird. He served as the personal transport of the royal family of the planet Esmeralda, but when Belial devastated the planet, he was taksed with bringing the princess Emerana to safety, which led to him joining forces with Zero to fight Belial and later protect the whole multiverse as he does these days.

  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Jean-Bot has a secret compartment hiding an axe, which he can use to get himself out of a troublesome situation and strike unprepared enemies.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Variant. A pilot can access Jean-Bot's controls to manipulate his movement by shouting "Jean Fight!", as Nao does during the climax.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Glen Fire likes to call him "Yakitori" (Japanese fried chicken), much to his annoyance.
  • Finishing Move: His is the Emerald Beam, a green laser fired from his forehead.
  • Homage: Based on a previous hero created by Tsuburaya Productions called Jumborg Ace, who was also a giant robot.
  • Humongous Mecha: The Ultra Series has featured plenty of giant robots before, but Jean-Bot is the first one to be a genuine Ultraman-style hero.
  • Rocket Punch: His Jean-Knuckle, fired from his left fist.
  • Sapient Ship: In his Jean-Bird form, he still can converse with anyone inside the ship.
  • Transforming Mecha: Can transform into a spaceship called the Jean-Bird.

Glen Fire

Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/glenfire.png

A fiery (both literally and figuratively) alien who originally worked with a gang of space pirates that Zero and his allies encountered while traversing the universe in search of a way to defeat Ultraman Belial. He initially saw Zero as a rival, but after joining forces with him to fight Belial, he became a member of the Ultimate Force Zero.

  • Action Bomb: His Fire Dynamite, which is essentially just Ultraman Taro's Ultra Dynamite.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Though he's loud and brash, he has a good heart that goes above and beyond to protect his friends and those weaker than him.
    • In chapter 2 of the Ultimate Force Zero Side Story, he becomes a bodyguard for an injured sentient snowball named Wraith. The two quickly develop a brotherly bond during their journey, with Wraith fondly calling Glen 'aniki' (big brother).
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: Initially acted as a cocky rival of Zero when they first met, but became his friend once Zero was able to match and even overpower him in a fight, before joining Zero's group.
  • Elemental Weapon: He can make a lance of flame called the Fire Stick that is also able to shot out bolts of fire.
  • Finishing Move: His is the Glen Spark, a giant orb of flame that incinerates foes caught in it.
  • Incendiary Exponent: He can cover his body in fire and perform a kamikaze attack, afterwards he regenerates albeit tired.
  • Homage: Based on a previous hero created by Tsuburaya Productions called Fireman.
  • Hot-Blooded: Literally and figuratively. Likewise, he's the member of the Ultimate Force Zero that tends to clash the most with the others, especially Zero, due to his recklessness and excitement.
  • Large Ham: Quiet and subtlety is not in his dictionary.
  • The Nicknamer: Calls Jean-Bot 'yakitori' (grilled chicken) and sometimes struggles to remember other people's names the first time.
  • Playing with Fire: All of his abilities use fire in some form, from his punches, kicks and ranged attacks.
  • Personality Powers: He's hotheaded, passionate and always ready to throw down in a fight; his personality matches his fire powers to a T.
  • Red Is Heroic: His body is primarily red and he's a protector of the multiverse.
  • Space Pirates: He used to be one, hanging out with the Flame Pirates of the Nitromethane Sea (actually a nebula) as their champion, before joining forces with Zero.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Is fond of using the piledriver wrestling move.

Jean-Killer / Jean-Nine

Voiced by: Miyu Irino

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jean_killer.png

The last introduced member of the Ultimate Force Zero, having debuted in Killer the Beatstar. Jean-Nine was born as Jean-Killer, created by the evil supercomputer Beatstar from the data of Jean-Bot for the purpose of destroying him. After Beatstar was destroyed, Jean-Killer was freed from his programming and rechristened Jean-Nine, younger brother of Jean-Bot and newest member of Ultraman Zero's team.

  • Arm Cannon: Possess two on both of his arms.
  • Chest Blaster: Can fire Homing Lasers from his chest.
  • Enemy Scan: Jean-Killer performs one for Zero, Mirror Knight, and Glen Fire respectively upon first encountering them.
  • Evil Knockoff: Jean-Bot explains that Jean-Nine was created in his image using some of his own A.I.
  • Eye Beams: Can fire out red lasers from his eyes.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He was originally constructed for the purpose of destroying Jean-Bot by Beatstar, but after learning the power of free will, he joined the Ultimate Force Zero and was given the new name of Jean-Nine.
  • Homage: Based on a secondary hero in Jumborg Ace called Jumborg 9, with Jean-Killer being named after a monster from the same series called Jum Killer.
  • Humongous Mecha: Much like his brother, although he can't transform.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Jean-Killer. Lampshaded by Mirror Knight, who suggested giving him a new name because of this once he joins their team.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Had red eyes as Jean-Killer.
  • Rocket Punch: Just like Jean-Bot.
  • Shock and Awe: Can shoot paralyzing lightning from his hands.
  • You Are Number 6: Princess Emerana rechristened him Jean-Nine because he was the ninth of the group of heroes who defeated Beatstar (the Ultimate Force Zero, Rei, Captain Hyuuga, Gomora, and Litra).

Moroboshi

A Pigmon who serves as the mascot of the Ultimate Force Zero. The team first encountered him in Ultra Zero Fight, where it was one of several monsters resurrected by the Alien Bat Gurashie, but unlike the others, remained a friendly and peaceful creature.

    Allies

ZAP SPACY

An intergalactic exploration crew who have survived numerous encounters with kaiju thanks to the power of Rei, a crew member with the ability to command kaiju with a battlenizer. Rei controls Gomora and Litra with this device, using his monster companions to help Zero and other Ultras take on their various gigantic foes. Other members of ZAP SPACY are Captain Hyuuga, Haruna, Oki, and Kumano. The team appears in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends, Ultraman Zero vs Darklops Zero, and Killer the Beatstar.

Run

Played by: Yu Koyanagi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/run_8.jpg

The first host of Ultraman Zero, encountered by the hero when he first arrived in the alternate universe Belial was rampaging through. He is a law enforcer on the mining planet Anu, which was under attack by Belial's forces. Run was killed in the assault but Zero resurrected him and took him as a host to survive in the unfamiliar new dimension.

  • Big Brother Instinct: When Belial's Legionoids attacked his planet, he made sure to get Nao to safety, which got him killed.
  • Human Aliens: While he does look exactly like a human, he actually hails from an alien planet on an alternate universe.
  • Satellite Character: Doesn't get much development on his own due to Zero having full control of his body for most of the film, other than being a protective big brother to Nao and brave enough to sacrifice his life without hesitation to save his little brother's own.

Nao

Played by: Tatsuomi Hamada

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nao_5.jpg

Run's little brother, who enthusiastically joins Zero/Run on his adventures through the new universe alongside Princess Esmerana, and Jean-Bot.

  • Human Aliens: Just like his older brother.
  • Tagalong Kid: Justified by the fact that Zero is currently in the body of his older brother, so he really doesn't have anyone else to go with. He does prove to be quite useful at times, even piloting Jean-Bot against Belial's forces in the climax.

Princess Emerana Lourdes

Played by: Tao Tsuchiya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emerana.jpg

The princess of the planet Esmeralda, a beautiful world with vast deposits of emerald-like minerals. Unfortunately, Esmeralda was ravaged by Ultraman Belial and his armies when he came to loot the planet. Emerana escaped with the help of Jean-Bot, soon running into Zero/Run and Nao and joining them in the struggle against Belial. She also appears in Killer the Beatstar, where she and Jean-Bot are captured by the titlular A.I.

  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: She helps Zero and Nao quite a bit on their journey in search of the Shield of Barraj, including (temporarily) sacrificing her life to give Jean-Bot additional power. Not to mention, it was she who broke through to Jean-Killer and the mind-controlled Jean-Bot in Killer the Beatstar.

Taiga Nozomu

Played by: DAIGO

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/taiga_nozomu.jpg

The newest member of Super GUTS, fifteen years after Shin Asuka's Heroic Sacrifice. His ego and recklessness strongly reminds the old Super GUTS members of their lost teammate. However, he soon finds himself in a strange new universe when he is captured by surviving Spheres and brought to Team U's world, where he becomes the reluctant second host of Ultraman Zero.

  • Ace Pilot: Despite being a cocky and childish private, he's a naturally-gifted pilot whose combat skills are noted to be on par with Asuka's.
  • Character Development: At the start of the film. He acted like a stuck up rookie that thinks that he can go missions all alone. Only until after he realizes how much of a threat Alien Bat is, and how much Ultraman means to people do his true colors come into play and he begins to warm up to both Zero and his team.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Contributing to his Sad Clown status, Taiga's parents were killed in a fight between Dyna and a monster, hence why he was resistant to Zero's help from the start.
  • Expy: Acts almost exactly like Shin Asuka from Ultraman Dyna. The old Super GUTS team members take note of this, but like with Asuka, Character Development sees him change.
  • Expy Coexistence: By the end of the film, Taiga Nozumu and Shin Asuka are fighting side-by-side, respectively as Ultraman Zero and Ultraman Dyna.
  • Reluctant Warrior: His heart is in the right place but from the get-go, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with being Zero's host.

Team U

Played by: AKB48 members Sayaka Akimoto, Ayaka Umeda, Sae Miazawa, Yuka Masuda, Sumire Sato, Kana Kobayashi, and Haruka Shimada

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/team_u.jpg
Left to right: Hina, Nonko, Sawa, Captain Anna, Misato, Maomi, and Risa

A group of women from a universe where Alien Bat has successfully eradicated all life on Earth (save for them and a group of orphaned children) to feed his Hyper Zetton. They have since formed a motley defense team of sorts to take care of the children and deal with the occasional giant monster. They are made of Anna (their leader), Misato (their deputy captain), Sawa (their strategist and best combatant), Nonko and Maomi (their mechanics), Hina (their communications operator), and Risa (their medic).

  • Action Girl: The entire team, but especially Captain Anna, Misato, and Sawa.
  • Badass Normal: They're a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits who've managed to take care of themselves and a group of children during Alien Bat's reign with the help of mechs and strategically placed booby traps.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: They were really just a bunch of nobodies who got together in an abandoned defense team building and made it their own, only taking on the mantle after adopting the children.

    Other Ultras
While almost all of the other Ultramen make appearances in Zero's adventures, some play a bigger role than others.

Ultraseven

Voiced by: Kohji Moritsugu

Zeros' father and one of the most well-known Ultra heroes. He is one of the main Ultras featured in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends and plays minor roles in the rest of the Ultraman Zero sub-franchise, often giving advice for his son and sometimes appearing in his human identity of Dan Moroboshi.
See Ultraseven

Ultraman Leo

Voiced by: Ryu Manatsu

A student of Ultraseven who passed on the teachings of Zero's father to Zero himself after the junior hero was banished from M78 when he almost went down Belial's path. As Zero's mentor, he plays minor roles throughout Zero's adventures, but gets to participate a bit in the combat in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends and Ultraman Zero vs Darklops Zero.
See Ultraman Leo
  • Badass Teacher: He serves as the mentor to Zero.
  • Big Damn Heroes: when he arrives to save Zero, who was a hair's breadth away from being killed by Robot Ultraseven and Robot Ultraman.
  • Master-Apprentice Chain: It makes sense for Leo to be Zero's mentor and teacher, considering Zero's father, Ultraseven, had mentored Leo in the past during Leo's debut series.

Ultraman Dyna

Voiced by: Takeshi Tsuruno

An Ultraman from a completely different universe who, like Zero, has become a traveler of the multiverse after originally performing a Heroic Sacrifice to save Earth from a cosmic threat. He plays a secondary role in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends where he helps the M78 Ultras battle Belial, but in Ultraman Saga, he is one of the major heroes alongside Zero and Cosmos. He often appears as his human host Shin Asuka.
See Ultraman Dyna

  • Fusion Dance: Together with Ultraman Zero and Cosmos, to form Ultraman Saga.

Ultraman Cosmos

Voiced by: Taiyo Sugiura

Another Ultraman from a universe different from that of the classic Showa timeline. After having defeated a number of powerful threats in his universe, Cosmos now tasks himself with the occasional visit to other dimensions in search of worlds in need of protection. Thus, he is one of the main Ultras to appear in Ultraman Saga, where he is also seen alongside his human host Musashi Haruno.

  • Fusion Dance: Together with Ultraman Zero and Dyna, to form Ultraman Saga.

Ultraman

Voiced by: Susumu Kurobe

The original Ultraman himself. While he mainly plays bit roles in the Zero sub-franchise, he is one of the main Ultras to play a role in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends. He appears as Shin Hayata on several occasions.
See Ultraman TV Series

Ultraman Mebius

Voiced by: Shunji Igarashi

A relatively young Ultraman (being only a thousand or so years older than Zero). He is one of the major Ultras to appear in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends, where he also assumes his human form Mirai Hibino for a part of the film.
See Ultraman Mebius

  • Continuity Nod: His attire in human form is a black shirt with a brown vest, with his Ultra Star Sign emblazoned on it. Exactly like the original Ultra Brothers' outfits during their crossover way back in the Alien Temperor Arc in Ultraman Taro.

Click here to see Ultraman Belial Atrocious.

A fallen Ultra warrior. Like Ultraman Zero, Belial was originally a young and powerful warrior who was exiled from the Land of Light after attempting to steal the Plasma Spark's power for himself. In exile, he encountered the powerful entity known as Reiblood, who corrupted him further with his Reionyx powers. With the newfound ability to command monsters through the Giga Battlenizer, he led a huge army of kaiju against the Land of Light, but was ultimately defeated by Ultraman King and imprisoned in what became the planet's moon. But, after being freed by a foolish Alien Zarab, he has begun to rampage through the cosmos once more and is now considered one of the greatest enemies of the Ultra heroes, especially his longtime foe Ultraman Zero and later on his "son" Ultraman Geed.

Belial has become one of the main antagonists overall of the entirety of the Ultra Series either directly working as the Big Bad of multiple installments or through the legacy of his work infuencing events in various other instalments instead.

  • Abusive Parents: While he might feel some pride for him, his treatment of Riku/Geed is not exactly close to low standards for decent parenting, treating his son as a pawn and battery for most of the series and causing him various amount of grief with his actions and their repercussions.
  • The Ace: While not to the level of his best friend, Ken, Belial was always considered an outstanding powerful Ultra in his youth and later. Even after his turn to evil, he maintains this status, proving always to be a skilled deadly fighter capable of overcoming just about any opponent that comes his way through a combination of sheer brute force and tempered skills developed through thousands of years of training.
  • Admiring the Abomination: Seeing Alien Empera's massive power firsthand leaves an unhealthy impression on Belial about power, and helped drive his obsession with getting stronger that led to his turn to evil.
  • All for Nothing: Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy reveals to the Parallel Isotope Belial that his campaign of death and destruction ending with his defeats at Zero's hands and later, subsequent demise at the hands of his own son turn out to be this when Absolute Tartarus reveals his future to him. The past Belial simply responds by laughing it out and realizes this first hand, which prompts him to join Absolute Tartarus to change his fate.
  • And I Must Scream: He was sealed away inside the moon for 20,000 years. Not that it seemed to bother him that much besides a general frustration at not having the ability to achieve his goals.
  • Animal Motifs: He's subtly modeled after a shark, with a prominent head fin even compared to other Ultras, large jaws that look like a grin and sharp small teeth.
  • Anti-Hero: During the Ultra War, two members of Alien Empera's army surrender to Belial and Ken, claiming that Empera had forced them into fighting. Ken is ready to show mercy, but Belial promptly shoves him aside and executes the pair. When Ken protests, Belial defends himself by bluntly insisting that they were members of the army that was invading their home.
  • Arch-Enemy: To Ultraman Zero, being his first and most personal foe, a feeling that Belial returns with all due hatred.
  • Archnemesis Dad: Discounting Ultraman Zero, his worst enemy is his own son/genetic clone Riku Asakura/Ultraman Geed, as Belial serves as the source of Riku's pain and even in death causes him a lot of grief and suffering.
  • A Tragedy of Impulsiveness: He grew impulsive and reckless enough to try and take the Plasma Spark by force to empower himself in order to compensate for his perceived weakness. This one act was the one that completely caused his entire life to fall apart and sent him down the path of no return.
  • Ax-Crazy: One of his main traits is his utter sociopathy and raging attitude, taking great pleasure in inflicting pain and becoming a reckless berserker when suficently angered.
  • Badass Cape: Had one as Kaiser Belial, symbolizing his status as the absolute ruler of his empire and a threat to all of existence.
  • Bad Guys Do the Dirty Work:
    • He saves the Ultramen all the effort of finishing off Reibatos in Ultra Fight Orb when the latter turns up alive after barely surviving Orb's ultimate attack.
    • In Geed he kills the Alien Godola that was trying to fight his son in his return to Earth.
  • Beware the Superman: For most of the franchise, Ultras are heroic protectors of the world. Ultraman Belial is an evil one, and one of the most dangerous threats in the universe.
    • Likewise as an Ultra he's capable of growing stronger and smarter just like any Ultra Heroes and can use similar power-ups to his good-aligned enemies, making him a rather persistent and almost unkillable foe.
  • Beyond Redemption: In spite of his implied desire to go back to his home in the Land of Light and sorrow over his banishment, he simply is too spiteful to admit his fault in his fate and has abandoned the idea of redemption long ago, thus killing him for good is the only way to let him rest and end his threat once and for all.
  • Big Bad: Of Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends, Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, Ultra Zero Fight and Ultraman Geed.
  • Bishōnen Line: While all of his other power-up forms have him become increasingly monstrous, his Atrocious form is more humanoid and has him standing up straight instead of being hunched-over like his base form. The end result is a form that more closely resembles his Early Style while still being powerful enough to overwhelm Geed's Royal Megamaster form.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: In the climax of Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial Belial has Zero stuck in human form, captured and defenseless. So naturally, he takes this time to show him the entire revenge plan and gloat about how he'll destroy the Land of Light to make Zero suffer.
  • Boss Subtitles: Has a plethora of them, all depending on his form:
    • Kaiser Belial: Galactic Emperor.
    • Arch Belial: Great Galactic Emperor.
    • Kaiser Darkness: Dark Great Emperor.
    • Chimeraberus: Belial Fusion Monster.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Episode 100 of Ultraman Retsuden sees him taking over the show and partly complaining about the short runtime and demanding it to be made longer.
  • Breakout Villain: Belial has gone on to become a very iconic part of the entire Ultra Series, allowing him to reappear even after his final death in Geed in various stage shows to the point becoming one of the protagonists of the Darkness Heels project, which includes the manga Darkness Heels -Lili-.
  • Broken Ace: As powerful and dangerous as Belial was, and still is, the cycle of coming Back from the Dead only to be killed combined with him deep down genuinely having sorrow and longing to return to the Land of Light have left him a tired, broken Ultra. He's just too full of wrath and too prideful to ever admit it was all his own fault in the first place and let go.
  • Can't Catch Up: After Ken unlocked his potential with the Ultra Sword during his duel with Alien Empera, he started to become more powerful than Belial himself. As the gap grew wider, Belial becomes more and more bitter eventually leading to trying to empower himself with the Plasma Spark which followed suit with his banishment from the Land of Light and merge with Reiblood to gain power to match his former friend.
  • Casting Gag: His voice actor in Ultraman Z's English dub previously voiced a infamous antagonist from another series whose son becomes a protagonist.
  • Casting a Shadow: His influence and powers can cover things in a dark aura or even use their shadowy influence to make his beams red and black.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: After his corruption Belial doesn't even try to mask the fact that he's a remorseless evil and cruel bastard, delighting in his actions without much of a pretense of doing it for any reason besides personal gratification.
  • Character Blog: Belial received an official one from Tsuburaya in the form of a website where he would answer questions of the viewers and tell facts about himself, the original website was shutdown when Ultraman Geed premiered but an archive of the site exists.
  • The Chessmaster: His plan in Ultraman Geed, It apparently involves collecting the Ultra Capsules, and it doesn't matter if it's Kei or his own son Riku doing the collecting.
  • Classic Villain: He carries many of the classic sins as his main motivators and personality traits such as pride in himself, envy towards his best friend/eventual enemy Ultraman Ken/Father of Ultra, wrath at his many defeats and a colossal greed for power.
  • The Coats Are Off: In Revenge of Belial once he decides to take on Zero seriously, he ditches his Badass Cape and takes on the young Ultra warrior in a much fiercer fight than before.
  • Color Motifs: Red, black, orange and yellow. He temporarily adds green to the mixture in his tenure as Kaiser Belial due to association with the Emeralds of Planet Esmeralda but loses them afterwards
  • Control Freak: Belial is very obsessed with having absolute control over not only himself but also everything else and tends to lose his composture when things don't go according to plan. Even before his turn to evil, he had hints of this trait in regards to his desire for power and recognition.
  • Cool Ship: The Malebrandes, his base of operations in Revenge of Belial, is a planet-sized spaceship that can attach itself to entire planets and has many factories, launching pads and systems inside to harvest celestial objects and produce legions of Mecha-Mooks for him to use.
  • The Corrupter: His Reiblood genes allow him to channel their malice to turn other living beings evil or aggressive. Even after his final death, his body fragments known as Devil's Splinters can drive Kaiju berserk and send them on mindless rampages while forcefully empowering them.
  • Creepy Long Fingers: His claws are usually normal sized, but when he goes into battle mode they become rather long and creepy-looking. In his return in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial his claws gain a red color and become permanently bigger. He returns to having mostly normal claws outside of battle later on.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: He usually finds himself dishing these out, though a few times he was the one on the receiving end:
    • During his first attack on the Land of Light he easily trounced Zoffy, Marie and Ken but was defeated with even more ease by Ultraman King, who effortlessly used his telekinesis to immobilize Belial and seal him inside of the Land of Light's moon for a thousand years.
    • In his return he plowed through the entire Land of Light, defeating the Ultra Brothers, Mebius, Hikari and everyone else who fought him with ease. Father of Ultra in return dished out a big one against him, with Belial resorting to attack Ken's injuries left from his battle against Empera to gain the upper hand.
    • He later received one from Ultraman Zero, after the latter defeated his 100 Monster Army. When he returns as Belyudra, he instead nearly defeats Zero and the rest of the Ultras and heroes fighting him with ease and requires a massive team effort to be defeated.
    • In Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial he defeats and nearly kills Zero as Arch Belial by overpowering him and draining his lifeforce, requiring Glen Fire to save him.
    • In Ultra Zero Fight once he becomes Zero Darkness he easily defeats and kills the entire Ultimate Force Zero and in turn his spirit easily vanquished by Shining Zero.
    • In Ultra Fight Orb he kills (an admittedly weakened) Reibatos with a single Deathcium Beam which actually kills the up-to-this-point unkillable warrior for good.
    • In Ultraman Geed once he becomes Ultraman Belial Atrocious he defeats Royal Megamaster, Zero Beyond and even Father of Ultra with minimal difficulty on his part.
  • Dark Is Evil: His color scheme is red and black and he's a malevolent tyrant with plans of conquering or destroying the Multiverse.
  • Deader than Dead: His spirit gets obliterated by Shining Ultraman Zero in Ultra Zero Fight, outright making him this... At least until Zero turned back time and undid the event and his previous death, restoring his body.
  • Death by Irony:
    • Temporary example in Geed. When he fights his son in episode 17, Geed obliterates him using Royal Mega Master, a form he accesses by using his (Belial's) Ultra Capsule in combination with Ultraman King's. Belial only survives by possessing Arie at the last second but would have died otherwise.
    • In the finale of Geed he is killed off for good when his son destroys him with the Wrecking Burst, an attack that employs the combined energies of both his and the original Ultraman's signature beam while in a fit of rage.
  • Defeat Equals Explosion:
    • Averted in Ultra Galaxy Legends, as he is thrown into lava by Zero's Wide Shot and while an explosion is seen, he survives and proceeds to make a last ditch effort plan in the form of Belyudra.
    • In Revenge of Belial a more justified example happens as he's hit by a fully powered Ultimate Zero Shot which creates an explosion from the inside out that vaporizes him and his entire army in one go.
    • Geed has it happen again when he's defeated by Royal Megamaster Geed as Chimeraberus... Though he survived that one, then the finale has him exploding when he's overwhelmed by Geed's Wrecking Burst, and this time he dies for real.
  • Demonic Possession: His merge with Alien Reiblood wasn't consentual at the beginning with him screaming in pain as Reiblood gave him his power and forcefully entered his body, but after a while of being under the tyrant's influence he willingly accepted it.
  • Determinator: A villainous example, Belial will not stop at anything to get his revenge and conquer the Multiverse, no matter the cost or how much he suffers from the many battles he takes in and loses.
  • Detrimental Determination: However, his determination eventually gets deconstructed in Ultraman Geed where we see that his determination to get his revenge has taken its toll on his sanity and person, essentially leaving him a shadow of his old self with nothing but personal vengeance as his motivation. In addition to blinding him to anything but the path of evil so much that he cannot be redeemed because he's so deadset on getting his way that he won't take standing down an option.
  • Diabolical Mastermind: He's been behind many schemes and plots ever since his return, first by becoming an evil emperor and attempting to create a powerful enough army to conquer the Multiverse through sheer force, following up on that plan after it's thwarted with a plan to resume that and use the body of his powerful nemesis as means of becoming unstoppable that only backfires thanks to circumstances he could've not seen coming and culminating in a complex and nearly succesful gambit in Geed to make himself a God and get his revenge once and for all that required a massive team effort from the heroes, Ultraman King himself included, to fully stop.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Often suffers losses because of things he either could not see coming or arrogantly failed to account for.
    • In his original defeat, Zero was the key part and was ultimately an Outside-Context Problem up until that point, as Belial had no idea of Zero's existence, let alone knew about Zero's strength which proves enough to destroy his army and defeat him in a fair fight.
    • In Revenge of Belial, he did not see Zero obtaining the power of Ultraman Noa coming and neither saw coming that Mirror Knight would help Zero avoid getting blasted too early in his attacks by using illusions to fool Belial, leaving him wide open to be obliterated.
    • In Ultra Zero Fight, he wasn't expecting Zero to be able to fight off his Demonic Possession and is completely blindsided by the young Ultra obtaining a new form that allows him to purge the tyrant's spirit out of his body and then undo his teammates' deaths.
    • During Geed he did not see coming that his clone and intended pawn would grow a mind and will of his own, eventually coming to oppose him. Nor he saw coming that his son's bonds and kindness would eventually lead to his victory against him.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: He does not take kindly to other people pitying him or feeling empathy for his past, responding with violence to people's attempts at understanding him.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Was originally a pawn of Reiblood during his original rampage and acted out on the advice of his spiritual source of power. By the time he escapes his prison, Reiblood's spirit is all but stated to be Deader than Dead and thus Belial becomes the main threat to the Multiverse all on his own, though Geed implies that his actions were still driven by Reiblood's influence to some degree, better shown by Reiblood's spirit being purged out of his body by Geed in the finale.
  • The Dreaded: Ever since his fall from grace Belial has made a fearsome reputation for himself, with even Father of Ultra dreading his return. His minions tend to be terrified of his wrath and innocents caught in his plans learn very quickly to be afraid of him. Even Zero, his personal nemesis who's beaten him several times, considers Belial his greatest fear.
  • Driven by Envy: Belial's fall to evil started with him being jealous over Ken being promoted after defeating Empera and proceeding to grow stronger than himself in addition to winning the heart of Ultrawoman Marie, who he pinned after.
  • Drunk with Power: Belial initially didn't want to merge with Reiblood and the evil entity more or less forcefully possessed Belial and manipulated him, however Belial came to enjoy the power that he obtained and eventually willingly coopearated with Reiblood to get his revenge on the Land of Light.
  • Earth-Shattering Kaboom:
    • In Revenge of Belial as Arch Belial he tries to perform one of these on Planet Esmerana with his fully powered Arch Deathcium Beam, purely to spite the Ultimate Force Zero. He only barely fails thanks to Mirror Knight's shields being held up by all 4 members of the Force up until Zero gains his Ultimate form. Earlier in the movie, his space fleet succesfully caused this to an unnamed planet.
    • The Crisis Impact of Geed involved a successful one with Belial developing a Dimensional Erradicator Bomb that started by destroying Earth and then followed suit by making the entire fabric of the Universe collapse, slowly destroying existence. He tries this again in the finale but is thankfully stopped before he can start putting the pieces of another Crisis Impact together.
  • Emerald Power: As Arc Belial he has the power of the Emerald Ore from Planet Esmeralda powering him up, which allows him to destroy entire planets with one attack. Furthermore, two colossal emerald crystals serve as his shoulder spikes.
  • The Emperor: In Revenge of Belial he is elevated to this status after founding the Belial Galactic Empire and conquering many galaxies as part of his larger plan to rule over the Multiverse.
  • Entitled to Have You: Belial acted this way towards Marie in their youth. He doesn't take it well when she falls in love with Ken instead.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: Belial doesn't seems to mind who works for him as long as they do a good job, he's had many kinds of aliens serving him over the years including those from species that are sworn enemies of the Ultras and the human-like Kei Fukuide. However he is a narcissist that views everyone else as beneath him, so it's not really out of a lack of prejudice.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Seconds after being freed from his thousand-year prison by Alien Zarab and given back his Giga Battle Nizer, the first thing Belial does is to murder the alien that freed him just for suggesting that they team up to conquer the universe and boasts that only he can take over. Showing us from the get-go that Belial is a power-hungry and selfish monster.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: His son, Riku seems to harbor a degree of love for him, hugging Belial after witnessing his memories of all the pain he's had in his many battles and resurrections, having a rather pained expression after killing Belial for good, and then wishing for Belial to rest in peace and trying unsuccessfully to get Celebro to stop using his father's remains for his experiments and creations.
    • In a minor note, his previous friends Ken/Father of Ultra and Marie/Mother of Ultra seemed distressed to watch him destroy their home and tried reasoning with him when he first attacked the Land of Light in revenge. Too bad he was too far gone to listen to them at that point.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: In the series finale of Geed he receives the first show of affection and empathy ever since his turn to evil from his son, Riku/Geed, who begs him to stand down so they can finally stop fighting and ease Belial's pain and sorrow, the evil Ultraman is confused and baffled by this and after looking indecisive at first, continues his assault, ending with him obliterated for good when he loses his Beam-O-War with Geed.
  • Eviler than Thou: Proved to be this to the Alien Shadows offscreen at some point before Ultraman Geed. In one of his bids for universal conquest, he apparently attacked their homeworld and devastated it to the point they're now scattered across the universe and (from their point of view) scraping the bottom of the barrel in regards to a new home to live in.
  • Evil Feels Good: Before his Face–Heel Turn he was perpetually unhappy at all points and very bitter about his life, post-turn to evil he instead a lot more darkly cheerful and generally derives pleasure and joy from the cruelty of his actions, though it is implied that he's not entirely happy with his actions.
  • Evil Former Friend: Was once Ken/Father of Ultra and Marie/Mother of Ultra's closest friend and even held feelings for the latter, until Ken's growing power, ascension to commander of the Garrison and winning Marie's heart drove him to resent them and eventually see them as enemies after his exile from the Land of Light.
  • Evil Is Bigger: He's fond of taking One-Winged Angel forms that are bigger than the heroes he fights, with the 4000-meter tall Belyudra being the most notable example. Even in his normal form, he has far more visible muscle mass than most Ultras and stands taller than Zero.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Belial is not shy about chewing the scenery once he cuts loose or even beforehand, he also gets very expressive in battle and is prone to screaming and laughing out loud a lot.
  • Evil Is Petty: Belial won't miss a chance to make his opponents suffer for any perceived slights as much as possible, even if he has to target innocents whose only connection to him are their association with his foes. Even if it's a lowly Pigmon.
  • Evil Laugh: Belial never misses the chance to let out devilish laughs at appropriate moments when he succeeds or when he's sadistically enjoying his evil actions.
  • Evil Makeover: After his merge with Alien Reiblood he gained a brand-new appearance gaining a slouch, long sharp claws, a black and red color scheme, a monstrous face and a demonic body pattern.
  • Evil Old Folks: In the present day he's essentially an angry old man who's held on to his grudge against those who he felt wronged him for thousands of years, he also regards most of his younger foes as foolish children or pesky teens compared to him.
  • Evil Overlord: He became this in Revenge of Belial after founded an empire between the events of Ultra Galaxy Legends and that movie, an empire big enough to give him control over most of the Universe. Later instalments have him with smaller forces but still keeping the threat level of one.
  • Evil Plan: He never appears without one.
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends his plan was to freeze the Land of Light by stealing the Plasma Spark, use the aforementioned artifact to resurrect his 100 Monster Army, send out an Alien Shaplay to eliminate survivors of his raid on M78 and follow by taking over the Universe unopposed with his army.
    • In Revenge of Belial he instead plots to destroy the Land of Light by creating special robotic forces with the powerful emeralds from a different dimension and then take over the whole Multiverse with his forces.
    • Ultra Fight Zero has him ordering the Darkness Five to lure Zero into a trap meant to have Belial take over the former Ultra's body so he can remain on the physical plane and rebuild his empire to his former glory to continue his conquests.
    • Geed has him sending out Kei Fukuide to gather Ultraman King's energy contained in the Childhood Energy and Capsules scattered throughout the Universe so as to empower himself with the old man's energy and not only attaining even more power than before but also taking out King forever by assimilating his scattered power in the process.
  • The Exile: Was banished from the Land of Light for trying to steal the Plasma Spark out of a desire to get more powerful, which could've plunged the Land of Light into an eternal winter. Though he initially seemed to have come to hate his former home, Geed hints that he still longs for his home.
  • Expy: Due to his overall design and aesthetics in his ultra form as well as their general quests for power and destruction, Belial could be seen as the Nebula M78 equivalent to Dark Zagi.
    • He's even more of an Expy of the very first true evil Ultra, Heller from The☆Ultraman, who was also once an Ultra that fought for justice, but was banished for his lust for power, gave up his identity as an Ultra of Light and amassed a galactic empire to get revenge on his former allies and friends.
    • Similarly, he is also an Expy of Thunder Arrow another evil Ultra from the manga Ultra Brothers' Story, who similarly was banished from the Land of Light and returned with a Kaiju army for his vengeance, even killing Ultraseven in his rampage before being taken down along with his army.
    • His Arch Belial form is heavily based on SpaceGodzilla, with two crystals on his shoulders and a "crown" with horns.
    • Belial is also an expy to Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, as both of them were once warriors of the light only to turn to the Dark Side due to their hunger for power and were engaged in conflict with their sons, the only difference is that Anakin redeems himself while Belial did not.
  • Fallen Hero: Was previously an Ultra that fought alongside Ken, Marie and Zoffy against the forces of Alien Empera, unfortunately his desire for greater power inspired by witnessing Alien Empera's own and jealously towards Ken for becoming captain of the Space Garrison and winning Marie's heart all drove him to try and forcefully empower himself with the Plasma Spark, which led to his banishment from the Land of Light, which itself was followed by him being reached by Reiblood and merging with the ancient evil to become more powerful and conquer the Land of Light.
  • Fantastic Racism: Belial has a low view on humans, unlike his fellow Ultras he thinks little of them besides being primitive creatures. This prejudice usually extends to other species as well, though Belial won't mind using them as pawns in his plans.
  • Fatal Flaw: Ultimately, every single bad thing to ever happen to Belial is the fault of his Greed, Wrath, or Pride. He was greedy to the point of trying to steal the Plasma Spark for himself resulting in his banishment. He's too hateful to ever let go of his grudge even when his countless deaths and resurrections do nothing but continually make him suffer to the point of being tired with it all. Lastly, he's far too prideful to ever admit either of the above were his own fault in the first place.
  • Freudian Excuse: One of Belial's reasons for his turn to evil is his massive inferiority complex, which only got excacerbated once Ken started to become stronger than him and got everything Belial wanted in life.
  • Finishing Move: His signature and favorite attack is the Deathcium Burst, a stream of dark energy released from his arms forming a cross shape, not unlike the Spacium Beam. All of his forms include a variation of it as their own finishing form, though some fire it from different parts such as Arch Belial who fires the beam from his mouth.
  • Fusion Dance: Overlapping with One-Winged Angel, he'll usually fuse with other beings to achieve more monstrous or powerful forms.
    • In Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends he fuses with all the Monster Graveyard's spirits into the 4,000 meter tall chimera Belyudra, with himself acting as the head and brain of the fused monster.
    • In Ultra Zero Fight he temporarily merges with the Darkness Armor in a gambit to take over Zero's body via Demonic Possession.
    • Like Riku and Kei, he also has access to a Riser and uses Monster Capsules to fuse into him. The monsters that he makes up typically are made up the main kaiju that forms the bulk of the body and are part of the second name, while the other gives minor aesthetic changes. It should be noted that in the tie-in video games, Belial turns into all of the Fusion beasts, and Kei is not present. Demonstrated by his transformation into King Galactron in Ultra Festival 2017.
    • Ultraman Fusion Fight! Game Forms
  • Galactic Conqueror: During the first film he aims to be this, starting by destroying the Land of Light, then trying to amass an army of Kaiju to assist him in his goals of taking over the Universe unopposed once the other Ultras are all killed. He expands his goals towards multiversal conquest in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial where he builds a large army in an alternate Universe with the goal of eventually conquering all Universes, starting by destroying M78, as he's already pretty much succeeded at taking the Universe he formed his army in save for a few pockets of resistance that he was in the process of crushing before Zero came along.
  • The Ghost: As Belial is already dead since Geed, he was only mentioned in name by Riku, Z and Zero (in the voice drama only) in Z, his only real appearances are in flashbacks but none in the present.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Usually his eyes will remain normally lit, but sometimes they will take a notable higher glow, such as in the final scene of Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends where they lit up to show us that he isn't down for the count after Belyudra's destruction.
  • Godhood Seeker: His quest for power gradually escalates to this, as he seeks to become powerful enough to become a God and rule over the Multiverse unopposed.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: In Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial he has a few nasty ones left from his defeat in his debut at the hands of Zero. He loses them in future appearances after his original body is completely destroyed and he is resurrected.
  • Grand Theft Me: In Ultra Zero Fight he takes over Zero by imparting his ghostly essence into him, becoming Zero Darkness up until Zero explunges him with his Shining Form. He later does this to Arie in Ultraman Geed to survive Geed Royal Megamaster's ultimate attack that seemingly kills him.
  • Gratuitous German: In Revenge of Belial he's renamed himself "Kaiser" Belial, rather than the usual Japanese word for Emperor "Kōtei".
  • Greater-Scope Villain: A few times.
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legend Gaiden: Ultraman Zero vs. Darklops Zero the Big Bad, Darklops Zero, is one of his many Mecha-Mooks who simply found himself in the alternate Universe Zero and Rei find him in. Darklops Zero acts entirely under Belial's protocols once it breaks free of the Salome's control.
    • In Ultra Fight Orb his resurrection is Reibato's goal and the driving force of the latter's actions. Though he had already resurrected thanks to Zero's Shining Star Drive and finishes off Reibatos himself.
    • The posthumous one for Ultraman Z, he's been long-dead by then, but parts of his body that he lost throughout his fights became the Devil's Splinters that serve as the driving force of the series' problems, including Z's problems with Beliarok as the sentient sword is ultimately a clone of Belial of sorts and its aggressive and bloodthirsty personality that seeks out the fiercest opponent leads to trouble.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Once Ken started becoming more powerful than he was and managed to win over Marie's heart, Belial began to grow envious of his friend's success, driving him to a murderous rage and eventually to try and compensate for his own perceived lack of power by taking the Plasma Spark.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Spots red-colored volcanic vein-like scars in his return in Revenge of Belial, left behind by Zero after their first battle.
  • Heads I Win, Tails You Lose: The Crisis Impact in Geed more or less was done to force this trope on the Ultras as a whole. Either they lose by letting him destroy the universe or he wins by having Ultraman King merge himself with the universe and leave his energies scattered and ready for his plans to empower himself with them by absorbing them, which is what ultimately happens and nearly turns into a total victory for him.
  • Hero Killer: As one of the franchise's most powerful antagonists, he usually proves his might this way.
    • Dishes a massive Curb-Stomp Battle to the Land of Light and comes close to killing them all by freezing the entire planet by stealing the Plasma Spark. In the climax he kills Ultraseven when the latter shields the ZAP Spacy Crew from Belial's attacks while mortally wounded.
    • In Ultra Zero Fight as Zero Darkness he killed the entire Ultimate Force Zero except for Moroboshi the Pigmon, who is saved when Zero regains control of his body at the last second, achieves his Shining Form and purges Belial out of his body before using the Shining Star Drive to rewind time and resurrect his fallen comrades.
    • In Ultraman Geed he did one of these prior to the start of the series in the Crisis Impact, where he once again plowed through an army of Ultra Warriors, defeated Zero and the Ultra Brothers then destroyed Geed's Earth and nearly the entire Universe. Furthermore, his actions put Ultraman King out of commission to prevent the Universe's destruction by scattering his power across it and very nearly kills King for good when he begins absorbing his scattered energy to empower himself.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: In Geed Kei has written novels starring Belial as the heroic protector and Zero as the villainous conqueror.
  • Hostile Show Takeover:
    • His website blog featured a parody of this with Belial "advertising" Ultraman Belial: The Movie Super Strongest! Belial Galactic Empire, a film where he "heroically" defends the peace of his empire from the evil invader, Ultraman Zero.
    • In Ultraman Retsuden he appeared in the 100th episode alongside the Darkness Five to take over the narration and complain about the runtime.
  • I Can Rule Alone: His Establishing Character Moment has him kill an Alien Zarab that wanted to partner up with him, all because Belial would rather not acknowledge anyone as his equal.
  • Iconic Sequel Character: With how important a character he's become to the mythos as a whole, it's easy to forget Belial wasn't formally introduced until 2009, well over 40 years after the franchise first began.
  • Industrialized Evil: During his tenure as Kaiser Belial his empire was very much industrial-oriented, with him decimating any life-filled planets to obtain their supplies of Planet Esmeralda's emerald ore and with his forces being mechanical soldiers with only a few organic commanders.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: It's heavily implied that deep beneath his egocentrical personality lies a vulnerable, self-loathing and insecure Ultra who compensates for his perceived weaknesses by attaining power through any means. His banishment from the Land of Light also appears to be a legitimate point of sorrow for him, and it's implied that he only scoffs at it due to masking his grief over being banished from his home and deep down really wants to go back.
  • It Only Works Once: In his rematch with Zero when the Ultra confronts him in Revenge of Belial he shrugs off and overwhelms all of Zero's previous techniques that managed to put him down in Ultra Galaxy Legends. He even lampshades this after shrugging off Zero's firey kick.
"That won't work on me."
  • It's All About Me: Belial's sole motivation throughout his life has been to become stronger and get everything he desires without giving a hoot about anyone else's needs. When he turns to villainy, he views all his servants as disposable pawns and does not return any loyalty given to him by them, killing and disposing of them when he feels like it or no longer has any use of them. To drive this point, his first action in Ultra Galaxy Legends is to kill the Zarab that freed him and tried to team up with him, as he doesn't likes the idea of sharing any of the glory.
  • I've Come Too Far: His final moments imply that this is the case for him, he really just wants to rest from his countless resurrections and go back to his home in the Land of Light, but after all his atrocities he's committed he simply feels that going forward with his villainy is the only way to go, and has no intention of going back to the light anymore.
  • Jerkass: Even before his turn to evil, Belial was always quite the asshole to everyone else, better demonstrated by his aggressive attitude towards his former best friend, Ken, simply because Ken started to become stronger than him. This trait still is present in him when he becomes a villain, being downright nasty even to his own minions and quite rude to everyone.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: In the War against Alien Empera, Belial was shown to be merciless and ruthless against his opponents, refusing to spare a single one even when they surrendered, but he was not wrong in pointing out that they were invaders attacking their home and given that many Ultras died in the War his excessive violence in fighting isn't entirely unfounded. Even Ken, after briefly berates him for executing the surrendering enemy, didn't provide further counterarguments when Belial accuses him of naivety.
  • Joker Immunity: No matter how many times Zero kills him, Belial always finds ways to return and menace everyone again. It takes being killed inside of another dimension and having his spirit be stuck between dimensions for his death to actually stick for good. And even then an alternate universe version of him ends up supplanting him not long after thanks to Absolute Tartarus.
  • Kick the Dog: While the Zarab that frees him wasn't exactly a good guy to begin with, he was rather respectful and polite to Belial, going through the trouble of giving the tyrant his freedom and even his signature weapon and only asked for an alliance in return with no strings attached, Belial kills him for daring to try and suggest sharing the spoils of conquering the Universe in an act of unnecessary cruelty.
  • Killed Off for Real: Geed killed him while between dimensions to make sure even if he did somehow survive, he's not coming back. Notably this time it appears to have stuck, as his only reappearance since has been a mindless replica of him and the closest he gets to reappearing afterwards is through remains of his body left from all his battles and a sword with his face (that still isn't the real deal and is more neutral than evil). When he does reappear, it's only due to Absolute Tartarus going back and time and recruiting his younger self before he even became the corrupted Ultra we know, and thus present Belial is still dead.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Belial lacks any comedic traits and is always presented as a serious threat that can darken the mood of whatever installment he appears in. Notably, Ultraman Geed is one of the darkest series of the New Generation Heroes and he's the Big Bad in it.
  • Lack of Empathy: Belial is only interested in his own feelings and personal satisfaction, all without the slightest shred of empathy for anyone, not even his former friends, son or entire planets.
  • Last-Second Chance: Essentially gets on in Geed when his son tries to empathize with his pain and sorrow, Belial rejects his son's kindness and tries to attack him one last time, leading to his death.
  • Leader Forms the Head: As Belyudra, Belial forms the behemoth monster's brain and commands all its actions.
  • Legacy Character: Subverted; through Geed and Greeza's needle, he was given a clone crafted into a talking space needle called the Beliarok, but the latter is neither Belial's reincarnation nor an inheritor to his name.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: He's the father of Riku Asakura/Ultraman Geed who initially had no idea of who was his father. Though he himself never has to reveal it to his son.
  • Made of Evil: Ultraman Taiga and Z reveal that fragments of Belial's body are evil-inducing artifacts capable of turning Kaiju into mindless berserkers and corrupt living beings. If used to create a clone of Belial or a Kaiju, they'll turn out evil or at the very least extremely aggressive.
  • Made of Iron: Just about nothing short of the most extremely powerful attacks can cause meaningful harm to Belial let alone kill him. For an example, even in his first outing he survived the explosion of the 4,500 meters tall Belyudra while at the epicenter of it and only got scars from Zero's Plasma Spark-boosted sword which helped destroy the chimera.
  • Meaningful Name: "Belial" is considered a synonym for The Devil in Jewish and Christian texts. Fittingly enough, Ultraman Belial himself is a Satanic Archetype who has embodied all Seven Deadly Sins throughout his life and is clad in black and red colors higlighting his evil nature. "Belial" also means "worthless" in Hebrew, fitting his Inferiority Superiority Complex.
  • Miles to Go Before I Sleep: A dark variation: Geed implies after seeing into his mind that Belial is tired from his endless cycle of resurrecting, but won't let himself die until he's gotten his revenge.
  • Mirror Character: He and Ultraman Tregear are both disgraced Ultras from the Land of Light after becoming disillusioned by their ideologies. Belial would go on in his attempts to conquer the universe until he is stopped by his son, Ultraman Geed. Tregear would go on to commit a number of atrocities across the galaxy to enforce his contradicting beliefs of light and darkness and had run-ins with the New Generation Heroes until he is beaten by the combined might of the Tri-Squad and their New Generation predecessors. Both of their Parallel Isotope counterparts would eventually meet in Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy as members of The Kingdom.
  • Monster Lord: His Giga Battle Nizer allows him to control up to 100 Kaiju and Aliens, Ultra Galaxy Legends is the only time where he employs this ability, however.
  • My Death Is Just the Beginning: Belial's demise in Ultraman Geed didn't actually put the entire galaxy at peace. As Ultraman Z revealed, Belial's scattered remains from all of the wounds he sustained from his previous fights unleashes the Devil Splinter and throw the multiverse into a state of disorder once more.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: His name is Belial, a powerful demon that is sometimes also a name of the devil himself. His Super Mode is called Ultraman Belial Atrocious.
  • Never My Fault: He blames everyone else but himself for his own actions and their consequences, which in turn feeds his ego and desire for revenge.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: In Revenge of Belial he sends out three of his Darklopses to attack the Land of Light, this one decision leads to Zero tracking him down and eventually screwing up his plans, ending his empire as well.
  • No Body Left Behind: Ultimate Zero obliterated him in his Arch Belial form, leaving no trace of him behind, as a result he ends up a revenant spirit and forced to take other bodies to remain on the physical plane.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: When he really feels like it, he can be this as he'll do anything to ensure his opponents are dead or truly unable to stop him.
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends he isn't content with just freezing the Land of Light as he sends out a Reionics Alien Shaplay (who commands a Black King) with 3 Kaiju (Salamandora, Bemstar and Dorako) as backup to kill any survivors; when ZAP Spacy gets involved and are far away from the Monster Graveyard, Belial sends out an Alien Zetton and Narse to kill them.
    • In Ultra Zero Fight once he becomes Darkness Zero he proceeds to quickly kill off the Ultimate Force Zero's strongest members leaving Moroboshi the Pigmon for last and only taking his time with the little guy out of sick pleasure in killing it.
  • Nonstandard Character Design: Following his turn to evil his eyes are neither round nor blocky like past Ultras and his mouth is much bigger, akin to that of a shark, and almost always opens when he talks in addition to having notable sharp teeth.
  • No-Sell: In Revenge of Belial he shrugs off Zero's firey kick after blocking it. Even remarking that the attack doesn't works on him, anymore that is.
  • Not Quite Dead: He is very fond of this trope. First, the Ultras thought him dead after Belyudra's destruction, he survived (albeit heavily scarred) and proceeded to plot his revenge, Zero obliterates him in his second outing making sure this does not repeat, though even then Belial finds a way to persist as a spirit and return in Ultra Zero Fight before Zero obliterates his spirit as Shining Ultraman Zero, though later unwittingly resurrects him when he used the Shining Star Drive to resurrect his deceased teammates. In Ultraman Geed he also turns out alive after Geed Royal Megamaster seemingly obliterates him for good mid-series, having possessed Arie at the last second. It ends up finally subverted after Geed kills him in the final battle, as even several series later Belial is still Killed Off for Real.
  • Obviously Evil: Post-Heel–Face Turn he's shed any outwardly appearance of a benevolent Ultra in favor of an intimidating red/black color scheme with orange/red eyes and long sharp claws along with a slight hunch.
  • Offing the Offspring: Attempted to kill his son, Geed, multiple times as a result of the latter's defiance of him and his plans. His most notable moment of this is his attempts to devour his son and absorb his power into himself as Chimeraberus.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Has plenty of these in-between his appearances.
    • In the years between Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends and Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial he managed to go from having no armies or resources as well as being left and stranded on outer space to commanding a galactic-spanning empire along with a much more massive and deadly army than his previous one.
    • In-between Ultra Fight Orb and Ultraman Geed he caused the Crisis Impact, a massive battle between a new army he made and the Ultras of the Land of Light that ended with him defeating all his opposition and destroying Geed's Earth before faking his death, only glimpses of it are shown in Geed and the details of it aren't developed as well.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • In Revenge of Belial he gets a good one when he realizes that Mirror Knight has fooled him with an illusion of Ultimate Zero, with the real deal being right behind him and about to obliterate him with the Final Ultimate Zero.
    • Ultra Zero Fight has an even more spectacular one after Zero unlocks his Shining Form and prepares to vaporize Belial's soul out of existence, Belial can only run away in vain from the newly-gained power of his adversary while visibly terrified.
    • In Geed he gets his last ever one seconds before his son's Wrecking Burst overpowers his Deathcium Burst and obliterates him for good.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Belial in his latest appearances shifted his goals from outright conquest to straight-up omnicide out of pure rage over constant defeats.
  • One-Winged Angel: Does this practically Once an Episode when his options to win are running out.
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends he merges with all of the souls in the Monster Graveyard to form the 4,000 meter tall chimera, Belyudra.
    • In Revenge of Belial he becomes the enormous Arch Belial by consuming the entirety of his supplies of emerald ore.
    • In Geed he becomes Chimeraboros by employing the Five King and Zogu Second Form capsules. Later he gets a more downplayed example in Ultraman Belial Atrocious, who remains mostly humanoid but has notable body distortions and a far more ghastly appearance than even his base form.
  • Orcus on His Throne: During Revenge of Belial he spends most of his time barking orders at his minions and only takes action once Zero meets him personally.
  • Ominous Latin Chanting: His leitmotifs (Kaiser Belial, Belial Empire and Arch Belial's Theme, Belial - Resurrection, Belial - Superior, Belial - Appearance and Belial - Advance) all have a haunting chorus in their backgrounds.
  • Orcus on His Throne: Often sits back to let his minions do the work for him when he isn't actively leading his forces.
    • Downplayed in Revenge of Belial, while the film has him sit on his throne for most of the film while his minions collect the Emerald Ore, Belial himself does take some time to supervise his Darklops factory's progress so as to prepare his forces for deployment in the Land of Light.
    • In Geed it's his Dragon, Kei Fukuide, who does most of the job of obtaining King's energy for him and challenging Geed to prepare the young Ultra's energy to be used by Belial.
  • Origins Episode: "The Divergence" from The Absolute Conspiracy can be considered this for him, depicting Belial in his youth when he was a regular Ultra and depicting the process of his turn to evil.
  • Out of Continues: Ultraman Geed ends with the heroes sending him and Geed into the space between dimensions where Geed kills him so he's unlikely to revive and even if he does, he's now trapped there. This time it seems to have stuck.
  • The Paragon Always Rebels: Before his turn to evil he was considered a respectable powerful young Ultra, but being second best to Ken drove him to a jealous rage and eventually set him down the path of evil after he tried to take the Plasma Spark to empower himself.
  • Parents as People: He does show some sense of acknowledgement, and even pride, towards his son Geed despite him being a hero that opposes him that his servant Kei Fukuide created, that said its unclear how much of this is genuine pride for Geed as his own person or if its just pride out of Geed technically being an extension of his being. His treatment of his loyal servant Kei on the other hand...
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Back when he was on the side of good he would not hold back or show mercy to his opponents, he defends himself by stating that they were invaders attacking the Ultras' homeworld and killing fellow Ultras, that said he usually did this by mercilessly killing even opponents that surrendered which even Ken found excessive.
    • Killing a near-dead person that was trying to help resurrect him would be utterly petty even for him, but his victim, Reibatos, wasn't exactly a good guy to begin with as he planned to control the 100 Monster Army to conquer the universe for himself and only tried resurrecting Belial as a last resort to screw the Ultras over so rather than a full-blown Kick the Dog, his killing of the Reionics warrior turns into this.
    • In Geed he does this twice, killing an alien that was trying to murder his son Geed, and later he betrays Kei Fukuide and leaves him to die. Kei had just stabbed Belial's current host in the gut while Belial was still merged with her, so Kei brought it on himself.
  • Perpetual Smiler: After his transformation into the evil Ultra he is nowadays, his default face never seems to lose its Slasher Smile, even when transformed into stronger forms the grin remains.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Even when left to his own devices, Belial can wreck havoc across entire dimensions with his actions and decimate entire planets in the wake of his conquests. And this is when he's not augmenting himself with stronger forms or using artifacts to spread further ruin. His most notable feats of destruction include almost obliterating Planet Esmeralda in one blast as Arch Belial (only stopped by Mirror Knight's shields being held up by the entire Ultimate Force Zero... And even them stray parts of his beam were still powerful enough to blast apart large pieces of land with explosions big enough to be seen from space) and his Dimensional Erradication Bomb, that threatened to destroy Geed's universe and likely all concepts within it, requiring Ultraman King to merge with all of it to avoid this fate.
  • Physical God: Not always the case for him, but throughout his many returns he went from simply being freakishly strong to becoming a near god-like foe. His transformations are almost always far above anything the heroes can do and usually requires an equally godly power to be taken down. The biggest case of this is his Atrocious form, where King's power and the Empera/Lugiel capsules make him powerful enough to trounce almost everything the heroes throw at him; he is only barely beaten by a massive group effort that only worked thanks to Ultraman King's interference.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: His motivations, as well as Flaws, makes him this seeing as how his Start of Darkness was rooted out of Jealousy towards Ken. And he has a Short fuse every time he loses. He is nothing more than a whiny little brat in an adult's body ranting about how he should have been the one to have everything.
  • The Power of Hate: One of the reasons he keeps coming back over and over aside from his powers is his unending hatred of his foes and desire to get even with them at all costs, and he won't rest until he's either killed or vindicates his hatred.
  • Put the "Laughter" in "Slaughter": Belial will often burst into psychotic laughter when performing terrible deeds as a sign of his enjoyment of the situation. Most notably in Revenge of Belial he laughs evilly as he attempts to corrupts Mirror Knight into his evil servant.
  • Put Them All Out of My Misery: When Geed sees his memories, one of the things he realizes is deep down, Belial is filled with as much sorrow as he is rage over his banishment and is tired from his countless resurrections, but too consumed by his grudge to ever let go and pass on. Belial makes no attempt to dispute the idea, which paints his attempted destruction of the universe in a rather different light..
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: He's been the leader of several groups and in all of them he's always the most powerful of all threats faced by the heroes.
  • Rape, Pillage, and Burn: Excluding the first part, this is pretty much his MO in just about everything: he or his forces travel to an inhabited planet, raze it to the ground and take whatever valuable resources they can leaving everything in their path barren and destroyed. In Geed we're shown that in the aftermath of these conquests many aliens were left homeless and the entirety of the Alien Shadows of Geed's universe were forced to seek out other worlds to live in after Belial decimated their homeworld.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: Like Dark Zagi his color scheme is predominantly red and black, highlighting his status as an evil Ultra. He keeps this scheme even when taking other stronger forms.
  • Redemption Rejection: He's given up on the idea of going back to the light a long time ago, anytime someone tries to get through to him or get him to repent he will reject their help violently.
  • Red Is Violent: Belial is clad in a bright red complimented with black and he's a violent evil being who enjoys causing destruction and relishes on the act.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: In Ultraman Geed he is believed dead after the Crisis Impact, only for him to show up alive and well mid-series, having faked his death to go unnoticed by the Ultras while Kei did the job of collecting Capsules for him.
  • Resurrective Immortality: He keeps coming back this way, thanks to Reiblood's powers even being reduced to a mere spirit can't stop him for long before he finds a way to become corporeal again. The only times where this was actually averted were when Zero obliterated his spirit with his Shining form, though this ended undone by Zero reversing time afterwards and when Geed kills him between dimensions, leaving his spirit stuck between them and therefore unable to ever return even if he resurrected in some way.
  • Retcon: He is the subject of one in Riku's flashback when he explains the origin of Devil Splinter, being stated to be pieces of Belial's flesh laying around back when he sustained injuries during his active days fighting. During the flashback, an improvised scene from Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends was demonstrated where Taro managed to shoot his Storium Ray to Belial's shoulder despite the original movie showing that Belial perfectly avoided the attack without even a slight scratch.
  • Returning Big Bad: After a long 4 year absence since Ultra Zero's Fight post-credits scene, Belial returned to the position of Big Bad (as well as entering his last-ever outing) for Ultraman Geed, revealing the brand-new plan he had in mind since before his resurrection.
  • Revenge: His main motivation throughout all his appearances, outside of ambition, is to get revenge on those who he feels have wronged him. First, he desired it against the Land of Light for exiling him after he tried to take the Plasma Spark, after he was defeated by Ultraman Zero he extended this grudge to Zero for it, in Geed he also takes the chance to try and get this on Ultraman King, the one who defeated him in his first rampage, nearly succeeding at it by absorbing his energy after getting the old man to put himself out of commission stopping the Crisis Impact.
    • Revenge Before Reason: His motivation is revenge on the Land of Light for his banishment...which was his own fault in the first place. Even as he grows tired of countless resurrections, he keeps going on the account of wanting his vengeance badly.
  • Sadist: Belial takes immense pleasure in making his foes suffer, and he also enjoys the sheer vindication it provides him. He won't waste chances to make people miserable when possible.
  • Satanic Archetype: His pride and greed caused him to try and steal the Land of Light's artificial sun for himself, resulting in him being cast out and ultimately sealed away by the Ultra's equal of God, likewise his color scheme is red and black with many of his One-Winged Angel forms all having a satanic feel to them (Belyudra outright looks like the devil; complete with three tails; Arch Belial has devil horns and is monstrous in appearance). Heck, his remains are called the Devil's Splinters.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Ultraman King defeated him and created the moon to imprison him in it. He presumably would've been forever imprisoned hadn't he been freed by an foolish Alien Zarab.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Has embodied them all at some point in his life, if not always.
    • Pride: Belial is a massive narcissist that views himself as the perfect being. The thought of anyone surpassing him is a big Berserk Button for him and is part of what drove him to turn evil.
    • Envy: Belial has always resented and envied those stronger than him or those who get the things which he desired. He developed a burning hatred for his best friend, Ultraman Ken/Father of Ultra, because the latter was stronger than him, became the captain of the Ultra Garrison and won Ultrawoman Marie/Mother of Ultra's heart; all of which Belial himself desired.
    • Wrath: Adding to the above, Belial is easily angered and never controls his outburst or barely tries to before letting loose. His immense wrath only gets worse as his defeats pile up and he begins to go gradually more and more insane.
    • Gluttony: Belial has no concept of self-control about "consuming" power. In Revenge of Belial he mutates his own body as a result of absorbing all the Emerald Ore his troops gathered, purely to kill Ultraman Zero with excessive force.
    • Greed: He only cares about obtaining anything he desires such as power. He does not have any moral limits as to what he'll do to get it, at least after his turn to evil.
    • Sloth: For all of Belial's talk about wanting to become stronger, he is quite prone to being lazy and inactive instead having his minions do most of the work before swooping in and taking all the spoils for himself.
    • Lust: A lesser one but his affections for Marie were shallow at best and straight-up predatory at worst, Belial only desired her because she was a "fine woman" that he felt he deserved. Her marriage to Ken further added to his jealously towards his friend.
  • Shadow Archetype: An almost literal shadow at that. Belial is actually a reflection of Zero (young, powerful, boisterous and full of potential but is also a power hungry person who tries to touch the Plasma Spark due to a feeling of inferiority and insecurities) and is also what Zero could have been if Seven wasn't there to stop him and sent off to be trained by Leo.
    • Belial's got a positive example in his Anti Anti Christ son Geed. Geed is what Belial would have been as a kind-hearted hero who actually cared about people other than himself.
  • Shock and Awe: One of the abilities of his Giga Battle Nizer is to launch powerful beams of energy that take a lightning-like form.
  • Skull for a Head: In his Belial Atrocious form, where his head more or less resemble an Ultra's skull with glowing bright orange eyes.
  • Slasher Smile: Always sports one of these after his merge with Reiblood, complimenting his already intimidating design.
  • The Sociopath: A power-hungry Evil Overlord whose ambition knows no bounds, Belial has the hallmarks of a classic sociopath. Let's see... an egotistical tyrant who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants, possessing utter Lack of Empathy and no conscience for his crimes, felt entitled to have Marie in his youth because she was a "fine woman" in his eyes, and finally a vengeful and sadistic streak to the point he'll lash out at anyone who bruised his ego with murderous intent. All check.
  • Sore Loser: He never takes defeat well, as his increasingly unhinged plans and degrading sanity after countless defeats can attest to.
  • Start of Darkness: While being forcefully merged with Reiblood was the start of his reign of terror as a Dark Giant, witnessing Alien Empera's power is the event that sowed the seeds for his eventual action of trying to steal the Plasma Spark and all that followed suit.
  • Stepford Smiler: When Geed sees inside his mind, he discovers that as much as Belial tries to hide it with glee in his actions, deep down he's a miserable, tired Ultra who misses his home and is tired of coming back from the dead only to be killed again in what appears to be an endless cycle, but is too prideful to ever admit that all of his suffering was his own fault.
  • Strong and Skilled: Belial might favor physical strength and overwhelming power above all things, but he's no unskilled foe as despite being Always Second Best to Ken, he was nonetheless still a terrific powerhouse with a lot of potential that spent years training in the Space Garrison and participated in conflicts such as the Ultimate War against Alien Empera. He often trounces his foes through a combination of his skills as an Ultra and his massive strength.
  • Super Mode: In Geed he obtains the all-mighty form Belial Atrocious, by using the Alien Empera and Dark Lugiel capsules along with Kei's Strum Organ and Ultraman King's energy, in this form he's at his most powerful and only barely fails in his plans thanks to a massive team effort of the Ultras.
  • Superpower Lottery: Belial is armed with lots of powerful techniques in addition to his classic Ultraman powers (flight, super strength, beams) such as mind control through his Reionics essence, can generate lightning from his body, survive as a spirit, employ telekinesis and absorb materials and energy into himself.
  • Super-Strength: Comes with being an Ultraman, naturally, in Ultra Galaxy Legends he shows enough strength to toss Ultraman Mebius from the Land of Light's ground to outer space with the Giga Battle Nizer and is easily able to manhandle almost every other Ultra in a physical fight even when outnumbered.
  • Super-Toughness: It's one thing to defeat Belial in a fight, it's another very different thing to kill him outright (and making sure he dies for good is even harder). Standing at the epicenter of the explosion of the mountain-sized Belyudra did not kill him and didn't even left a dent in his body (though Zero's sword did leave scars). In future appearances his toughness only gets much more troublesome for the heroes to deal with such as Revenge of Belial where he as Arch Belial is able to resist the planet-destroying power of Zero at first and requires a fully-powered shot of the Ultimate Aegis to finally die. When he becomes Atrocious in Geed he is able to take just about everything the heroes throw at him without effort, and only manages to lose when he's depowered by losing part of his power and then bum-rushed by the King-boosted Ultraman Geed and four copies of him in his other forms with a simultaneous finishing beam onslaught, and even that only manages to destroy his Giga Battle Nizer and bring him back to base form, at which that point Geed needs a rage-boosted fully powered Wrecking Burst to finally end Belial.
    • Belial summoned a universe destroying bomb during the prologue of Geed, and was at the epicenter of the explosion when said bomb went off. He's alive and well by the time of the series beginning, which means either his shield is that powerful or he is that powerful. The show doesn't confirm either terrifying possibility.
  • Swiss-Army Weapon: His Giga Battle Nizer can do almost anything Belial wants it to, from being a long range attack weapon with laser beams to nab foes at a distance, a good battering tool for when foes get up-close, employ electric whips to grab and toss his opponents around, control Kaiju and summon them at will, manipulate deceased souls and more.
  • Take Over the World: After merging with Reiblood, he desires to take over the Land of Light and eventually the Universe.
  • This Was His True Form: Shortly before he's killed by Geed, Geed's act of compassion manages to temporarily restore his mental projection to his original, uncorrupted form. It's heavily implied Geed purged Reiblood's spirit out of Belial somehow, which would allow Belial to die for good.
  • Token Evil Teammate: His Villain Episode in Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy shows that Belial barely counted as a good guy to begin with when he stood with the Land of Light. To wit, back during Alien Empera's invasion of the Land of Light, he simply kills the Emperor of Darkness' surrendering lackeys with a rather flimsy justification, even after said lackeys arguing that they were forced by Empera to take part in the invasion, then berates Ken for his supposed naivety.
  • Tragic Villain: In spite of his atrocities, the finale of Geed shows that deep beneath all the evil bravado stands a broken and homesick person who's simply too angry at his misfortunes to turn back. It's also implied that his merge with Reiblood wasn't voluntary at first and it's only when he was prompted to attack in revenge that he actually began to enjoy it.
  • Truly Single Parent: Geed was created using his DNA and that's about it on his part.
  • Underestimating Badassery: This tends to be his crux.
    • He underestimated Ultraman Zero severely in Ultra Galaxy Legends, being confident that his Monster Army or himself would take him down, he found himself beaten and his army destroyed for his troubles. He doesn't learns his lesson in future instalments, often believing that once he puts Zero on the ropes he's outright beaten him, and predictably ends up losing afterwards.
    • He also severely underestimates how powerful his son/clone, Geed, can become as he initially regards him as little more than a battery and even when Belial grows a twisted form of respect for the young Ultra he still regards him as an inferior clone of his. Unsurprisingly, it's Geed who ensures Belial dies for good.
  • The Unfettered: To Belial nothing is excessive in the pursuit of his vengeance, no matter how petty or destructive the action is. He's slaughtered countless lifeforms, destroyed entire planets and caused massive suffering across the Multiverse without ever stopping even once to consider a limit to his actions.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: When he's freed from his prison by an Alien Zarab that is nice enough to even give him back his Giga Battle Nizer and only asks that they form a partnership to take over the Universe as a team, his only response is to immediately kill said Zarab and then declare that only he will take over.
  • Villain Ball: In Revenge of Belial he has a depowered Zero/Run at his mercy and even stole his Ultra Zero Eye and holds it in front of him while laughing at his helplessness while he sends his troops to attack the Land of Light. This gives Nao, Esmerana and Jean-Bot time to reach his base, free Zero/Run and allow the hero to recover his strength and transform.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind: Always inverted as while his foes get stronger every time they face him again, so he has. This even becomes a plot point in Ultraman Geed.
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends he was subjected to a Curb-Stomp Battle from Zero, in Revenge of Belial he's gotten strong enough to deflect and witstand all that Zero throws at him and manages to overwhelm his nemesis in return.
    • In Ultra Zero Fight he is prepared for Zero's Ultimate Aegis armor by employing the very powerful Darkness Armor to match his foe for most of their fight.
    • In Ultraman Geed he straight-up defeats Zero before the series even began, who at this point had gotten even stronger than he was in all his past appearances. When Zero returns later on, it's often Belial who keeps the upper hand and it takes until the final episode for Zero to finally fight Belial on mostly even terms and Belial still winds up the winner afterwards. Zero losing most of the time prompts his superior son, Geed, to finally end the streak.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Often goes through these when his plans are thwarted or when things don't go as he planned them out to be:
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends he ends up straight-up furious after Ultraman Zero decimates his 100 Monster Army and takes on the young Ultra Warrior all by himself to try and take revenge, he then grows madder after Zero defeats him resorting to forcefully fusing himself with the sprits in the Monster Graveyard so as to defeat the Ultra Warriors and screams in anger before Zero and the others defeat him for real.
    • In Revenge of Belial he starts out fairly calm, up to and including his transformation into the monstrous Arch Belial at least until Zero is rescued from his grasp and certain death, at which that point he opts to just blow up Planet Esmeralda so as to spite the Ultimate Force Zero and ends up screaming Zero's name in pure hatred as Ultimate Zero obliterates him.
    • In Ultraman Geed he suffers his biggest one, as he loses his composture the moment Geed starts to overwhelm him, growing desperate to claim he's not being overwhelmed right before Geed's 5 finishers destroy his Giga Battle Nizer and revert him from his Atrocious form into his base form. When Geed tries to reason with him while fighting him in the mindscape, Belial can only scream in anger that Geed does not understand his pain and sorrow before crying out his son's name as he is killed for good by Geed's Wrecking Burst.
  • Villainous Legacy:
    • Ultraman Tregear is an unintentional example, as in Ultraman Taiga, he was originally an Ultra from the Land of Light, but Belial and Hikari's turn to the darkness caused Tregear to be disillusioned with the Land of Light's so-called image as the protector of light and inspired him to become evil once he abandoned his Ultraman identity.
    • In spite of his final death, his legacy lives on in the Devil's Splinters, a malevolent virus that infects Kaiju across the Multiverse, making them go berserk and start rampaging without a purpose. Likewise, other villains end up using them to deliberately make powerful bio-weapons such as Alien Chibull Mabuze and Celebro.
    • Furthermore even minor villains get to use his legacy as the Beliarok (a sword made out of parts of his essence) winds up under the use of an Alien Barossa and even Juggler (who's a minor anti-villain/anti-hero in Ultraman Z) plots to use it for unknown purposes.
  • Villain Override: He's inflicted this a couple of times in Ultra Zero Fight first doing it to the Darkness Armor, overriding its personality with his own, then when Zero defeats him in that form, he moves on to doing this to Zero himself, taking over his body and supressing Zero's mind trapping him inside his own body.
  • The Virus: Belial's Reionics energy can corrupt other living beings if they enter in contact with it. He can either use his claws to forcefully infect others or his scattered body parts lost in battles can be used for the same purpose.
  • We Can Rule Together: Seems to genuinely offer this to Geed, to the point of letting him control his body as Chimeraberus while beating up Zero after corrupting Geed.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • In Ultra Galaxy Legends he leaves the Land of Light's inhabitants, children such as Ultraman Kid included, to freeze to death slowly and painfully.
    • Revenge of Belial sees him decimating entire worlds and having no issue with killing or sending his minions to kill the young Nao.
    • He gives his own son/clone Geed a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown upon their first meeting and doesn't bat an eye when Kei threatens to hurt Mayu.
  • Wrecked Weapon: His Giga Battle Nizer was destroyed offscreen after his defeat in Ultra Galaxy Legends, got reforged by Reibatos and is ultimately destroyed for good when Geed with the power of Ultraman King launches all his finishers at once at it.
  • Xanatos Gambit: In Geed Belial's original master plan was to set off a gigantic bomb that would either remove King from the picture, or destroy all creation in the ultimate murder-suicide. It worked for the first plan and Belial was able to take King out and start his second scheme, which was to drain King's scattered power to turn himself into a God and take out King for good in the process.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Belial keeps changing his plans in Geed to suit what he needs. His original plan to blow up the universe failed? He starts a new one involving his son. His son is too powerful to outright consume? Belial chooses to hypnotize and convert Geed into a second dark Ultra. Geed is put beyond his reach? Belial devours Kei's Strum organ instead.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: After his banishment from the Land of Light, he can never go back to it. He tends to act like he doesn't cares anymore, but it's heavily implied that deep down he does long for his home but is too prideful to admit it.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Gives this treatment to Kei after ripping out his Sturm Organ, which leaves Kei to die slowly and painfully.

    Other Forms of Belial

Belyudra

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beryudora.png
"A monster made of monsters?!"
A form Belial obtains after fusing with the spirits of the Monster Graveyard following his defeat at Ultraman Zero's hands. It's a massive powerful monster that gives all of the Ultras a hard time, Belial serves as the brains of the beast.
  • Beam Spam: The individual kaijus composing its body can fire Eye Beams, which Belial can command to fire all at once.
  • Body Horror: It's components seem to be in pain and some like Bemstar are mutilated. That's without getting into how it's skin has pulsating external black vein-like tendrils.
  • Body of Bodies: It's made up of whole bodies of kaiju forcefully meshed together into a single entity.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: It's fight against the Ultras and their allies goes this way in its favor, none of them land anything close to a meaningful hit and it easily overpowers them all in return.
  • Evil Is Bigger: One of the biggest foes the Ultras have ever faced, only dwarfed by the likes of Vacuumon.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Borders on this, being a monstrous combination of whole kaiju bodies with each part capable of acting independently and with a rather unnatural body form.
  • Final Boss: Of Ultra Galaxy Legends, being Belial's last-resort measure at fighting the Ultras.
  • Fusion Dance: Between Belial and hundreds of spirits in the Monster Graveyard.
  • Hybrid Monster: One of the most extreme examples in the franchise, as Belyudra is composed of countless kaiju from the franchise's long history. 226 kaijus are visible on its body surface alone, including scrapped kaiju like Clapton and Bemular, the original concept that would become Ultraman.
  • The Juggernaut: It shrugs off everything thrown at it and proves quite unstoppable before Rei destabilizes it.
  • Leader Forms the Head: Belial forms the brain part of this monstrosity.
  • No-Sell: It takes every attack thrown at it and shows no signs of damage or even being tickled. It takes it being destabilized for any attacks to actually harm it.
  • One-Winged Angel: A monstrous form Belial takes in order to defeat the Ultras once he's beaten by Zero.
  • Rasputinian Death: It takes Rei destabilizing it with his Battle Nizer, Leo, Astra, Mebius, Dyna and Ultraman firing their finishers all at once, EX Gomora's Full Power Super Oscillatory Wave, the Pendragon's Pedanium Launcher Shot and a Plasma Spark-boosted Ultraman Zero attacking Belial directly to put this thing down...

Ultraman Zero Darkness

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/zerodarkness_7.png
The result of Ultraman Belial's spirit possessing Zero's body against the latter's will. He is a powerful and evil entity and a fearsome foe.
  • Beware the Superman: Zero Darkness shows everyone just how terrifying Zero would be if he turned evil or if he had stayed on his original path of seeking power at all costs.
  • Cessation of Existence: He only existed when Belial had control of Zero's body and promptly went away once Zero purged Belial's spirit, though copies of him have been made in later instalments by various villains.
  • Demonic Possession: He is the result of Belial taking over Zero's body for himself.
  • Palette Swap: Is essentially a recolored Ultraman Zero, with Belial's color scheme instead of his original one.

Parallel Isotope Belial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ultraman_belial_early_style_1.png
Belial in his uncorrupted form, Early Style.
An alternate version of Belial that was recruited by Absolute Tartarus after the Absolutian changed the past so Belial never got exiled and instead willingly left the Land of Light. Along with a Parallel Isotope Ultraman Tregear, he serves as one of Tartarus' strongest minions and enforcers, though only for his own benefit.
  • Alternate Self: To the original Belial, diverting from events that happened in the main timeline thanks to Tartarus' machinations.
  • Casting Gag: The English version of The Absolute Conspiracy has young Belial voiced by Jack Merluzzi, who voiced Zero in the previous installment, Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes. At first glance it seems to be an ironic casting choice, however, this is the younger Belial were talking about, who's as brash and hotheaded as Zero was.
  • Co-Dragons: Alongside Parallel Isotope Tregear he serves as this to Absolute Tartarus.
  • Deal with the Devil: This time with Absolute Tartarus instead of Reiblood and completely consentual unlike Reiblood's forceful merge that Belial later came to enjoy.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: After a sparring session that goes out of hand, Ken offers Belial a hand up. Belial swats it aside and angrily leaves without a word.
  • The Exile: Though unlike the original Belial, his own exile was self-imposed after touching the Plasma Spark thanks to Tartarus' interference.
  • Foil: To his partner, Parallel Isotope Tregear, both were once friends with a prodigy red tribe Ultra but fell to darkness as a result of jealously and their friendships drifting apart and in here they both join Tartarus to avoid their main timeline fates. However, while Tregear joins Tartarus out of fear of eventually turning against Taro, Belial joins Tartarus for his own sake and selfish search for power.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Finding out that his crusade for power in the main timeline ultimately results in his death drives him to laugh madly in despair before he joins Tartarus' crusade out of a feeling that there's nothing else left for him.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Tartarus' interference changes the context of his downfall into evil, but the same thing that happened in the main timeline happens here as Belial becomes evil and is granted power by an evil entity after leaving the Land of Light.
  • It's All About Me: He only took up on Tartarus' offer in order to become stronger in way that won't end in his death.
  • I Have No Son!: How he views Geed. To be fair, he's an Alternate Self to the Original Belial.
  • Karma Houdini: Like his employer and surviving teammates, Belial gets away from Absolute Conspiracy without suffering any consequences for his involvement in Tartarus' plot.
  • Laughing Mad: When he sees his future courtesy of Tartarus he ends up laughing maniatically before accepting the Absolutian's offer.
  • Light Is Not Good: Unlike his main counterpart, he never tainted his body with darkness... And he's still evil as ever.
  • Make Wrong What Once Went Right: Absolute Tartarus offers the younger Belial the chance to "change his fate" after showing him visions of his future defeats.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Downplayed but Belial here has no issue with working alongside Tregear, a stark contrast to his utter refusal to work with equals to him and even has something of a Villainous Friendship with his fellow evil Ultra. Before leaving the Absolutions to find power on his own, he gives Tregear his Tregear Eye, in a rare gesture of goodwill.
  • Villainous Friendship: Unlike the main timeline Belial, this one seems to get along just fine with other villains. Including his employer, Tartarus and comrade, Parallel Isotope Tregear.

Darkness Heels Belial

A version of Ultraman Belial that has reincarnated as a human, he finds himself involved in various situations now as a "Dark Hero" joining a team composed of himself, Camearra, Evil Tiga, Dark Zagi and Jugglus Juggler to combat multiple other threats.

In General

  • Alternate Self: Two in fact, there's the one from the stage shows and the one from the manga. Both being counterparts to the main universe Belial.
  • Anti-Hero: Belial becomes this in this project in general, he isn't happy about it however.
  • Back from the Dead: A shared plot point in all versions of the project is that Belial has been resurrected following his final death in Geed alongside other Dark Ultras but in human form.
  • Humanity Ensues: After being resurrected he is turned into a human.
  • Power Fist: In exchange for losing his natural claws in his human form, Belial is armed in both versions with clawed gauntlets that help him in a fight.

Darkness Heels - The Live Belial

Belial as depicted in DARKNESS HEELS - The Live

Played by Kentaro Menjo

  • Older Than They Look: Belial is played here by the youthful Kentaro Menjo, in spite of Belial himself being old by both human AND Ultraman standards.

Darkness Heels - Lili - Belial

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dh3s.jpg
Belial as depicted in DARKNESS HEELS - Lili -
The manga version of Belial, who is the first evil Ultra encountered by Lili and becomes a major character throughout the story.
  • Big Eater: In Chapter 1 Belial chows down on a whole bag of bread once Camearra forces him to eat. In Chapter 2 he is seen eating a whole basket of bread.
  • The Comically Serious: Belial ends up having an unintentional moment of comedy when he refuses to be fed bread by Camearra when he ends up exhausted over using his giant form, even dodging the loaves that Camearra tries to shove in his mouth after he refuses to eat them willingly.
  • De-power: Per Camearra's words, Belial is said to have been stripped of most of his powers, now only being able to remain in his giant form for 3 minutes and otherwise being forced to take a human form lest he dies from the strain.
  • Evil vs. Evil: He is still quite the nasty asshole and actively tries to kill Lili for her "light", but does end up protecting Lili from other threats in the manga though not out of altruism but simply because said threats get in his way.
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham: Belial refuses to eat the bread Camearra gives him up until he's force-fed a loaf, after which he empties her whole bread bag enthusiastically. Chapter 2 shows him eating a whole basket as well.
  • Mr. Fanservice: In Darkness Heels - Lili Belial is depicted this way, having a rather handsome appearance and a well-defined muscular body in addition to always being shirtless.
  • Tsundere: To Lili, who he repeatedly claims he only wants to kill for her light, yet as the manga progresses he begins to show that he might've fallen in love with her, but can't quite process those feelings.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: He only wears a cape, pants and shoes. He hasn't been seen yet with a shirt or anything alike.

    Belial's Forces

The 100 Monster Army

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ultramanbelialsarmy.png

An army of one hundred of the Ultra Series' most (in)famous kaiju and alien enemies of the Ultramen. They form Belial's troops in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends, created when the dark Ultra warrior uses his Giga Battlenizer and the Plasma Spark to resurrect the numerous souls of those slain by the Ultras throughout the ages and resting in Monster Graveyard. Facing them off are Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Mebius, and Rei's Gomora and Litra.

  • Back from the Dead: They are revived from the souls of various kaiju, aliens and even robots collected by Belial from the Monster Graveyard.
  • Degraded Boss: Many of these monsters went from a formidable foe that takes an Ultra a whole episode to defeat to simply going down in one blow, with majority of them being killed en masse by Zero.
  • Mooks: Basically their purpose after being brought back by Belial.
  • Villain Decay:
    • Especially notable for Antlar (whose hide can withstand Ultraman's Specium Ray in his debut, but is put down by a single energy blast this time), Gan-Q (a tough monster that Seven kills with a single Eye Sluger attack), Galberos (who simply dies from a kick, while in Ultraman Nexus and Mega Monster Battle he was a dangerous, reoccurring foe with illusionary abilities and pretty tough to kill) among several others. It might be justified; since the monsters were recently resurrected by the Battlenizer their strength may still be at a fraction of their full power.
    • While some show a degree of thinking, most of them behave as simplistic animals without much of an strategy or even use of their powers besides rushing the Ultras. Though like before, this is possibly a result of the way they were resurrected.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Some members of the army simply disappear during the battle, despite not being shown dying onscreen, such as Twin Tail, King Guesra, Pressure, Alien Reflect, among others. It's very likely Zero, the Ultra Brothers or Rei's kaiju killed them offscreen, however.
  • The Worf Barrage: The remainder of the army (at least 50 of them) serves to establish Ultraman Zero as a powerful warrior by getting defeated even with numbers advantage in under two minutes.
  • Zerg Rush: Their standard methods of attacking due to having advantage in numbers, this helps them eventually exhaust the Ultras. Against Ultraman Zero, they're promptly beaten.

100 Beings Monster

Belial: You believe me to be so easily defeated?

The ultimate trump card of Ultraman Belial, once Ultraman Zero wiped out the remnants of Belial's kaiju army and sent the vile Ultra into a stream of lava, it seems like the climax is finally over. But Belial, as a last-ditch move, re-revives his entire army (and 200 more) and now, in control of the largest fusion monster to date, prepares to wipe out the Ultramen and ZAP Spacy in one last attack.

  • Achilles' Heel: The Giga-Battlenizer, once hijacked, will result in Belial losing control.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Has control of all the monsters it's body is made of, as well as their accumulated abilities.
  • Assimilation Backfire: Belial's attempts at merging hundreds and hundreds of monsters into a single entity only results in each body part revolting when Belial lose control. Which gives the heroes a chance to hit back.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: In their ultimate form, Belyudora. They may be made of 300 different kaiju and seijin and have all their powers combined, but there's far too many of them for Belial to control, even with the Giga Battlenizer. This ends up backfiring for Belial in the climax when Rei managed to use his own Battlenizer on Belian's discarded weapon.
  • Beam Spam: With Belial forcing all the monster components - those with ability to release beam attacks - to open fire on the heroes.
Belial: Your lives will end... in a rain of fire!
  • Body of Bodies: Befitting the monster as a massive chimaera fusion made of 300-odd other monsters. To put things in perspective, it's fingers are made of ten different kaiju.
  • Evil Is Bigger: Three hundred times bigger than any Ultramen, in fact.
  • Evil Is Burning Hot: By far the largest and most horrifying creature Belial has summoned, emerging from a pool of lava with magma acting as "glue" for holding it's parts together.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Has hundreds of eyes growing all over it's body, coming from the many monsters it's made up of. Though it does have two "main" eyes on the face which isn't sourced from any other kaiju.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Some of Belyudora's parts are actually benevolent, non-villainous monsters or allies to the Ultramen in their previous appearances, such as Gavadon (both A and B), Seabozu, Alien Pegassa, Zanika, Stegon the Tortoise Family, Baktari, Guiro, Taishoh, Lavuras, Obiko, Zonnel, Mizunoeno Dragon, Alien Zamusher, among several others. It might be due to the Giga-Battlenizer's control.
  • Fusion Dance: After the last members of Belial's army have been slain, Belial resurrects them all, again, together with at least 200 others, to form Belyudra.
  • Giant Equals Invincible: Belyudora shrugs off everything the Ultramen, Gomora and the ZAP Spacy threw at it without even flinching, and it takes Rei finding the Giga-Battlenizer and hijacking it to turn the battle around.
  • Horns of Villainy: Has a pair of menacing-looking, protruding horns on it's head... each made of around twenty monsters fused into one.
  • Leader Forms the Head: Ultraman Belial forms the "brain" of Belyudora, with the lesser kaiju as the other body parts.
  • A Molten Date with Death: Belyudora begins the battle emerging from a massive lava lake, and spends the whole battle standing in it. Once Belial is defeated, all 300 monsters that made up Belyudora promptly erupts away and what's left goes into the lava.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Despite it's moniker of "100 Beings" Monster, Belyudora is actually made of 300-odd kaiju.
  • Tail Slap: Belyudora has an immensely powerful tail that effortlessly took down Gomora in it's Burst Form.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Belial's best way to take down five Ultramen and a few scant humans? By dragging out three hundred monsters and turning them into his own mountain-sized chimaera monster before sending it into battle.
  • Wings Do Nothing: It has wings as wide as entire mountains, but it's never depicted flying with these.
  • Your Size May Vary: Some of Belyudora's components have never been depicted as kaiju-sized, and yet they're as large as the other monstrous components. In particular, various aliens and robots from Ultraseven such as Alien Pegassa, Alien Chibull, Alien Cool and U-Tom as well as Alien Black from Return of Ultraman were human-sized in their previous appearances but are now huge when merged into Belyudora.

Darklops Zero

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darklops_zero.png
A robotic doppelganger of Ultraman Zero who serves as the title antagonist of Ultraman Zero vs Darklops Zero. It was discovered by a group of Alien Salome who realized it was not of this universe and sought to harness its great power. But, it turned out to be much less under their control than they imagined...
  • Chest Blaster: The Dimension Core, a weapon usually hidden under its colour timer that can blast enemies into another universe.
  • Cyber Cyclops: Hence the name Darklops ("Dark" and "Cyclops").
  • Better to Die than Be Killed: After being mortally wounded by Zero, Darklops instead chose to detonate his own power core, in an act of suicide rather than admitting he lost to Zero.
  • Elite Mook: He's technically just one of Belial's many fodder troops, yet is way more threatening than almost all of his minions sans his Co-Dragons.
  • Evil Knockoff: Of Ultraman Zero, replicating his appearance, arsenal and moveset. He also has what could be calle a dark version of Zero's personality, being cocky and talkative but cruel at the same time.
  • Humongous Mecha: A robot duplicate of Ultraman Zero from another universe discovered by the Salome who then decided to use it themselves up until it rebelled and destroyed them all.
  • Mirror Match: His final match against Zero invokes this. Both of them are capable of the same fighting moves and techniques, can launch their dual sluggers all over the place, and repeatedly spam their beam attacks on each other. The real Zero wins nevertheless, using a trick move he learned from his mentor Leo.
  • Robot Me: Of Zero. It was designed to be a perfect mirror of all his moves, and thus make it a deadly fighter.
  • Super Prototype: He may be just Belial's prototype, but he puts up way more of a fight against Zero than his mass produced successors, even being able to hold on to its last legs to try and take Zero and his allies with him.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: Before self-destructing, Prototype Darklops mocks Zero and boasts that a great darkness (Belial) is coming.

Dark Go Ne

Voiced by: Taiyo Kawashita

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darkgone.png

A commanding officer of Belial's universe-conquering empire in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, serving as one of the primary villains of the movie.

  • All There in the Manual: According to stage shows and supplementary materials, both him and Iaron worked for Yapool in the past before defecting for Belial's army.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: When he successfully binds Jean-Bot with his Go Ne whip and begins shocking him with his energy, he decides to torture him and Nao while slowly approaching them to finish them off which lets Jean-Bot take him by surprise with his axe and kill him in one blow, just as he and Nao planned.
  • Casting a Shadow: He can enter and teleport between any locations with sufficient darkness.
  • Chest Blaster: His Gone Laser, which also has homing qualities and can split into multiple shots.
  • Co-Dragons: With Iaron in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, both are Belial's most powerful and reliable lackeys in the film and tend to either be by his side or carry out his will personally.
  • Combat Tentacles: In his battle with Jean-Bot, he demonstrates this with the Gone Whip, a tentacle formed from his right hand that channels electricity and drains energy.
  • Dark Is Evil: Can't get any more blatant than Dark Go Ne. His design only adds to his very evil being.
  • Extra Eyes: Has four red eyes. Two on his face and other two above.
  • Homage: Based on the main villains from Jumborg Ace, the Go-Ne faction.
  • Obviously Evil: With his evil appearance, name and sadistic attitude Dark Go Ne does not hide how much of a scoundrel he is.
  • Sadist: When fighting Jean-Bot he takes a lot of pleasure in giving him and Nao an electric torture and decides to take his time finishing them off when he has them at his mercy, unfortunately for him this last action costs him his life.
  • Shapeshifter Weapon: He can transform both of his hands into swords of shadow and a rope which he can use to shock opponents.

Iaron

Voiced by: Norio Wakamoto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iaron.png

A fellow commander for Ultraman Belial's planet-raiding armies of Darklopses and Legionoids in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial, making him one of the film's main antagonists.

  • All There in the Manual: According to stage shows and supplementary materials, both him and Dark Go Ne worked for Yapool in the past before defecting for Belial's army.
  • Cephalothorax: His face is on his chest, though its rather small compared to the rest of his body.
  • Co-Dragons: With Darkgone in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: His body is partially made of a type of steel, making him nigh indestructible. Except for one particular injured spot in his back.
  • Homage: Based on Iron, the first and most popular Monster of the Week of Mirrorman.
  • In the Back: He dies when Mirror Knight shoots an energy ninja star and traps him inside of a mirror prison where he makes the star bounce until it hits Iaron's Achilles' Heel to kill him by piercing through his otherwise indestructible body.
  • Make Some Noise: Can fire sonic blasts from the spike on the top of his body and a stronger version of this attack which manifests as a large dark energy blast.
  • Smug Super: He thinks of himself as an invincible and unbeatable force and mocks Mirror Knight for being "fragile". While he's powerful and close to invulnerable, his underestimation of Mirror Knight costs him his life.
  • Torso with a View: Get's one of Mirror Knight's stars in its back, which then comes out from its face.

Darklopses

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darklops-group_3828.jpg

Robotic soldiers that form a good chunk of Ultraman Belial's armies in Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. They are doppelgangers of Ultraman Zero, and as their name suggests, they are actually the finalized versions of darklops Zero, who was a prototype built by Belial before the Alien Salome Dr. Herodia and her assistants found it.

  • Cyber Cyclops: Hence the name Darklops ("Dark" and "Cyclops").
  • Evil Knockoff: Of Zero, except there's thousands of them.
  • Humongous Mecha: This being the Ultra Series, it comes naturally for Mecha-Mooks.
  • Mecha-Mooks: Alongside the Legionoids, they act as this for Belial. Though they're still more competent and dangerous than their fellow Mecha-Mooks, the Legionoids.
  • Mook Chivalry: Averted. A trio of them sent to the Land of Light gang up on Zero and relentlessly attack him with everything they got.
  • Robot Me: Of Zero just like the prototype.
  • Punny Name: Their name is a combination of Darkness and Cyclops, which is reflected in their design.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The last one of the trio sent to the Land of Light tries to make a retreat after its companions are destroyed, only to be wiped out by Zero's Wide Shot before he gets the chance.

Legionoids

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a_legionoid.png

Mechanical soldiers serving as the standard troops of the Belial Galactic Empire, the universe-ravaging dictatorship Belial has established in an alternate dimension during Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial. They are sent out to assault entire planets alongside the Darklopses. Another one also appears in Killer the Beatstar under control of the title A.I., but is swiftly defeated by Rei's Gomora.

  • Arm Cannon: The space-based Legionoids posses these on both arms.
  • Humongous Mecha: This being the Ultra Series, it comes naturally for Mecha-Mooks.
  • Mecha-Mooks: Alongside the Darklopses. Though the Legionoids are far weaker. Though this only really applies within the powers of Ultras, as anywhere else they're flat-out unstoppable.
  • This Is a Drill : The ground-based Legionoids have their arms ending in drills.

The Darkness Five

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/darkness_five_1.jpg
From left to right: Deathrogue, Jahtar, Sly, Villainous and Glocken
A gang of evil aliens assembled by Ultraman Belial in the second season of Ultra Zero Fight for the purpose of destroying the Ultimate Force Zero. All of them are members of species known for being among the Ultras' deadliest opponents.

As a whole:

  • All There in the Manual: According to supplementary material for Ultraman Geed, they participated in the Crisis Impact. The show hints at this when Belial's flashbacks show him plotting the event, though it's unknown what they did in there and their whereabouts ater.
  • Dark Is Evil: A legion of villains called the Darkness Five that serve a dark master fit the trope to a T.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: There are five members in their team.
  • Obviously Evil: Nothing about them as a whole bothers to even try to hide the fact that they're evil.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: All of them are distinguished from other members of their own species by having ominous, glowing red eyes.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: They are not mentioned or seen in Ultraman Geed besides one small cameo in a flashback. Their fates are currently unknown.

Sly

Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto

An Armored Alien Mefilas whose swordsmanship and mastery over dark sorcery is unmatched. Acts as the leader of the Darkness Five and Belial's forces whenever Belial is not available.
See Ultraman TV Series
  • The Dragon: To Belial, following the deaths of Iaron and Dark Go Ne.
  • The Leader: Of the Darkness Five and Belial's forces when Belial isn't available.
  • Magic Knight: He's both a master of the blade and a master over dark arts, as his full title shows.
  • Red Baron: He's also known as The Sorcerous Sly.
  • Undying Loyalty: Not even Belial dying is enough to shake off his loyalty to the Ultra and is worried when he believes that Belial would be Deader than Dead if he can't find a body to take over.

Villainous

Voiced by: Holly Kaneko

A brutal Alien Temperor who relies upon a combination of his own formidable strength as well as the fearsome might of his "pet", the chimera kaiju Tyrant.
See Ultraman Taro
  • The Brute: Not as bad as previous Temperors, but he's mostly focused on fighting with sheer brute force. Though is smart enough to pick his battles carefully.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: His full title is: Villainous of the Villainy/The Nefarious Villainous. It can't get any less subtle than that.
  • Giver of Lame Names: He's this, if his redundant full title of Villainous of the Villainy is anything to go by. Zero even mocks him for it.
  • Obviously Evil: Looks evil as he's an Alien Temperor, has an evil sounding name and title and sounds redundantly evil. Need we say more?
  • Speak Ill of the Dead: Zero dosen't really care when he's destroyed Jathar but when Villainous mocks Jathar for being weak, it pisses off Zero something fierce.

Grocken

Voiced by: Koichi Toshima

An alien of the same species as Grozam (established to be known as the Alien Groza from this series onwards). While he may not have his predecessor's regenerative powers, his icy breath is compensation enough.
See Ultraman Mebius

Deathrog

Voiced by: Sei Okazaki

An alien of the same species as Deathrem (established to be known as the Alien Deathre from this series onwards). He carries numerous fire-based abilities he puts to use in incinerating the Ultimate Force Zero.
See Ultraman Mebius
  • Red Baron: He's also known as the Flaming Deathrog.
  • The Unintelligible: He speaks in grunts, heavily implied to be his species' native language. Grocken can understand him and often translates for him.

Jathar

Voiced by: Tetsuo Kishi

An Alien Hipporito who, unlike previous members of his kind, is able to assume the form of others to deceive his foes. Of course, he also possesses the standards petrification ability, albeit using a magical sphere of dark energy instead of a capsule.
See Ultraman Ace

  • Back from the Dead: He was unintentionally ressurrected by Zero Shining's power alongside the Ultimate Force Zero and his master, Belial.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Thinks he's the greatest villain ever and that he can easily kill Zero. Though he successfully petrifies most of the Ultimate Force Zero through trickery by disguising himself as Mother of Ultra, Zero sees through his tricks instantly and proceeds to kill him with ease.

  • Red Baron: He's also known as The Infernal Jathar.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The first (and only) of the Darkness Five to kick the bucket.

    Alien Bat

Alien Bat

Voiced by: Hideo Higashikokubaru (Ultraman Saga), Shintarō Asanuma (Ultra Zero Fight)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batseijinzero.png
An updated version of the final alien invader to attack Earth in Return of Ultraman. Alien Bat is Zero's second most frequent adversary after Ultraman Belial, first appearing as the Big Bad of Ultraman Saga. He seeks to destroy all life in the multiverse. In his debut, he abducted nearly the entire human race on an alternate version of Earth to use them to feed his monster Hyper Zetton. He was also indirectly responsible for the creation of Beatstar.

In Ultra Zero Fight, a second Alien Bat named Gurashie (an apprentice of the first one) appears as the first season's Big Bad. Like his predecessor, he carries out his scheme to destroy Ultraman Zero by resurrecting a number of monsters from the Monster Graveyard.

See Return of Ultraman

  • Adaptational Jerkass: The original Alien Bat was pretty bad already, but this one takes all his negative traits up a notch and is even more vicious than his original counterpart. Likewise he seeks the death of all life in the Multiverse, as opposed to simply seeking complete conquest of Earth.
  • Art Evolution: Alien Bat has received a massive design upgrade from his original incarnation. Whereas the original being was a chubby, somewhat silly-looking fellow with giant fangs, oversized pincers and an antennae on his head, the new Alien Bat is dressed in a sleek suit of robotic armor and has more blatantly bat-like features designed into his mask.
  • Attack Drone: He can launch a few of these from his spaceship. Three of the drones ends up engaging Ultraman Zero, and the last one nearly killed Nozumu Taiga if not for Zero's intervention.
  • Big Bad: Of Ultraman Saga.
  • Death by Irony: After declaring himself to be the ultimate ruler of the universe, beyond any life form in existance (see A God Am I, above), Alien Bat would end up receiving Ultraman Saga's Megaton Punch which instantly squashes him into bits like a pathethic, insignificant little insect. Its one of the most deliciously entertaining and catharthic moments ever in Ultraman Zero's career.
  • A God Am I: His justification for his omnicidal tendencies is that he believes he has the divine power to do as he wishes to the multiverse. He refers to Hyper Zetton as proof of his godhood.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: of Ultraman Zero Gaiden: Killer the Beatstar. In which the genocide he commnitted in another universe caused the remaining organic inhabitents to create the titular Beatstar, who eventually went rogue and concluded that all organics need to be destroyed partially due to how much it feared Alien Bat.
  • Hate Sink: The Ultraman Saga incarnation in particular sticks out for being the most sinister and devious incarnation yet, earning nothing but contempt from humans, Ultras, and kaijus alike. He seeks to conquer Earth by abducting most of the adult population and leaving just the children behind, in order to instill fear among the remaining Earthlings. He abducts and resurrects souls of Kaijus which are already resting in peace in the Monster Graveyard, only to treat them as slaves and executing them for failing him. He gloats about his powers before the Ultra warriors, yet spends most of the movie hiding behind the safety of his own spaceship or Hyper-Zetton. In the end, watching Ultraman Saga - a fusion Ultra warrior with the combined strength of 3 Ultramen - squash him with a Megaton Punch is insanely satisfying.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Seeks to destroy the entire multiverse.
  • Straw Nihilist: The reason why he wants to destroy the multiverse is because he believes life is ultimately meaningless because of death. He has created Hyper Zetton for the purpose of hastening the process for everyone.
  • Took a Level in Badass: While the original Alien Bat wasn't a laughing matter, he had nothing on this guy in terms of sheer threat posed to the universe.

Hyper Zetton

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hyper_zetton.png
Click here to see its larval form Gigant Hyper Zetton

An even more powerful version of the final opponent of the original Ultraman. Alien Bat created this creature to eradicate all life in the multiverse, incubating its egg and feeding the growing larva by harvesting the fear of survivors from an alternate Earth he attacked in the events of Ultraman Saga.

Hyper Zetton has been brought back in the shows on several occasions, sometimes with new and updated forms like Hyper Zetton Deathscythe, but it is generally used the same way the producers would use the standard Zetton.

For tropes also applying to the standard Zetton, see the Ultraman TV Series Character Sheet

  • Achilles' Heel:
    • In his Gigant Form, removing it's scythe-like arms will render it immobile for a short period, allowing the Ultras to momentarily turn the tide of battle.
    • In his Hyper Form, it's wings, which upon being sliced off by Ultraman Saga made it easy picking for the hero.
  • An Arm and a Leg: In the penultimate battle, Ultraman Zero and Dyna maned to blow off Gigant Hyper Zetton's scythe-like arms, weakening the monster enough for their killing blow.
  • Beware My Stinger Tail: Possesses a serrated tail.
  • Bishōnen Line: This incarnation of Zetton begins as a blobby, egg-like giant sack, which then turns into the centipede-looking Giganto Hyper Zetton, before becoming the slim, well-refined humanoid form of Hyper Zetton.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Has sword-like projections in place of Zetton's usual hands.
  • Chest Blaster: While Zetton is always able to shoot out fireballs, Hyper Zetton launches them from its chest rather than its "face".
  • Combat Tentacles: As Gigant Hyper Zetton, which are actually extended versions of its front legs.
  • Elite Mook: Of one of the most powerful monsters in the original Ultraman.
  • Emotion Eater: Alien Bat sustained the creature on human fear to make it as powerful as it is (though feeding it several Spheres probably helped as well).
  • Metamorphosis Monster: Begins as an utterly colossal centipede-like abomination called Gigant Hyper Zetton before metamorphosing into the more traditional humanoid form.
  • Mythology Gag: This isn't the first time Alien Bat has commanded a Zetton.
  • Sinister Scythe: His arms resembles giant scythes.
  • Teleport Spam: In Hyper Zetton form, while the original Zetton does have a degree of teleportation ability, Hyper Zetton on the other hand takes it up a notch.
  • Tiny-Headed Behemoth: In his Giganto Hyper form.
  • Torso with a View: Gigant Hyper Zetton's fate, from having the Ultimate Aegis Zero penetrating it's center. But it gets better.

    Other Villains

Alien Salome Dr. Herodia

Played by: Tomomi Miyashita

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/capture_945.PNG

One of a race of genius-intelligence, human-like aliens that once attacked Earth with a robot replica of Ultraseven. She was the head of a team studying parallel universes on the planet Chain in hopes of conquering the multiverse with their army of robot Ultramen and two new robots — the Mecha-Gomora and a strange new robot called Darklops Zero. However, their studies threatened the stability of the multiverse, attracting the attention of ZAP SPACY and Ultraman Zero.

  • Big Bad: Of Ultraman Zero and vs Darklops Zero at least until Darklops Zero reveals itself to be more independent than she believed.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Herodia strongly believes she can control Darklops and pays dearly for her misjudgment.
  • Cool Chair: She goes around her base in a hover-chair.
  • Disney Death: She simply gets dropped to her death by Darklops from a high point and succumbs to her injuries, with no visible wounds on her.
  • Meaningful Name: Herodia was the wife of King Herod in the Bible, as her species are named after the pair's daughter.
  • Multiversal Conqueror: Her goal is to seize the multiverse with an army of robot Ultras, taking advantage of a weak point in reality to leap through dimensions.

Mecha-Gomora

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mecha_gomora.png

A robot replica of Gomora, specifically the one used by Rei of ZAP SPACY. It the Gomora of a Rei from an alternate universe. When Dr. Herodia's team captured them, they took his Battlenizer and modified it, transforming it into a robot that would serve the Alien Salome in multiversal conquest.

Mecha-Gomora has since been transferred to the TV series beginning with Ultraman X, where he often appears as a Monster of the Week.

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As a result of Darklops Zero stealing control of it from Dr. Herodia during the climax.
  • Breakout Villain: Has since become a frequently appearing Monster of the Week in the TV shows, thanks to being pretty well received upon his debut.
  • Chest Blaster: His Mega Crusher Ray, which is fired from the pink light on his chest.
  • Cyborg: While showing no organic features on himself. Mecha Gomora was once a normal Gomora, until he was "modified" by the Alien Salome into serving them.
  • Evil Knockoff: The Salome pretty much specialize in constructing these, so inevitably there was going to be one of Rei's Gomora.
  • Grappling-Hook Gun: With his claws attached to them no less.
  • Horn Attack: Like his organic counterpart, Mecha-Gomora can shoot out a Super Oscillatory Wave from his nasal horn and also likes to use it by jamming his horn in foes first.
  • Homage: Intentionally designed after Mechagodzilla, particularly the original one from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Fans have also noted the resemblance to MechaGreymon, given Greymon was based on Gomora.
  • Humongous Mecha: A robotic doppelganger created by the Salome from the Battlenizer data of Gomora from the Rei of an alternate universe.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: Able to fire a slew of missiles from his fingers and back.
  • Robot Me: Of Rei's Gomora.
  • Robotic Reveal: Done in a very noticeable homage to Mechagodzilla.

Robot Ultra Brothers

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/robot_ultras.jpg

Robot replicas of Zoffy, Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Jack, and Ultraman Ace mass produced by Dr. Herodia and her men for the purpose of conquering the multiverse alongside Mecha-Gomora and Darklops Zero from their base on Planet Chain.

  • Beam-O-War: Robot Ace and Ultraman Zero, with their Metallium Ray and Zero Wide Shot respectively. And later on, Ultraman Leo and Zero combining their powers to perform the Zero Reflasher, against Robot Ultraman and Robot Ultraseven using their knockoff Specium Ray and Wide Shot.
  • Evil Knockoff: While Robot Ultraseven was in the Salome's original appearance in Ultraseven and a Robot Ace with a different design appeared briefly in Ultraman Ace, all of the others are totally new.
  • Killed Offscreen: Robot Zoffy and Robot Jack, the former who got the latter's lance shoved through his chest.
  • Mecha-Mooks: Of the Salome, who pretty much specialize in this.
  • Robot Me: Of all the Ultra Brothers except Taro.

Beatstar

Voiced by: Unshō Ishizuka

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beatstar.jpg

The Big Bad of Killer the Beatstar. Beatstar is a supercomputer created by survivors of a universe destroyed by Alien Bat to monitor their planet-ship as they fled for new dimensions. Unfortunately, his creators became hateful and violent towards each other, leading the A.I. to believe it must destroy all organic life to bring peace. Thus it searches for worlds to destroy, eventually bringing it into conflict with the Ultimate Force Zero and ZAP SPACY when it captures Jean-Bot and Princess Emerana.

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Was made for the purpose of maintaining order within its worldship. Unfortunately for the ship's inhabitants, any wars waged between them are also dealt with. Severely.
  • The Assimilator: Able to gain control over any robots and cyborgs it captures, creating vast armies of King Joes, Imperisers, Legionoids, as well as commanding an Ace Killer and the enslaved Jean-Bot.
  • The Blank: Possesses no facial features despite its humanoid form.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: Its body is covered in hidden missile launchers it fires en masse at Zero.
  • Master Computer: Of the worldship of the same name. Jean-Killer describes Beatstar as not just the A.I., but the whole "planet".
  • Ominous Fog: Produces energy-draining fog to weaken the Ultimate Force Zero against their robot foes while also adding atmosphre against the hero's silent enemies.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Seeks to destroy all organic life in the universe, believing that all such beings are evil.
  • Planet Spaceship: Built for one, a Dyson Sphere large enough to destroy a planet by simply plowing into it. It's hollow inside houses the inhabitants, with an artificial sun and moon giving a semblance of normality.
  • Shock and Awe: Can fire a variety of lightning-based abilities from its "face".
  • Super-Speed: Displayed this briefly when Jean-Nine attempted to fire at it.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Beatstar ultimately seeks to bring universal peace and order. The problem is it believes organic beings are the inherent cause of war and strife, thus seeks to replace the universe's inhabitants with robots to end such problems.

    Miscellaneous Monsters
Of course, the Ultra Series' many Monsters of the Week all get roles in Ultraman Zero's adventures. Those with notable appearances are listed below.

Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy Legends

Alien Zarab

Voiced by: Takeshi Aono

An alien who only appears at the very beginning of the movie (although there are some hints he was the one seen in Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle NEO), where he has somehow gotten his hand on the Giga-Battlenizer (as seen in The Stinger of Ultraman Mebius Gaiden: Ghost Rebirth). He used it free Belial from his prison after sneaking past the guards, hoping that Belial would form an alliance with him in gratitude. Unfortunately, Belial killed him instead, causing M78's greatest crisis yet.
See Ultraman TV Series

  • Early-Bird Cameo: Disregarding the possibility that he was the one from Ultra Galaxy (as suggested by his fondness for collecting Battlenizers), the Zarab in this movie (or at least his hand) is first seen in The Stinger of Ultraman Mebius: Ghost Rebirth.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Freed Belial in hopes that he would be grateful and team up with him. Belial promptly killed him and became an even bigger threat than Zarab could ever hope to be.

Zaragas

A monster encountered by ZAP SPACY when they land on the planet Dent. It was battled and quickly defeated by Rei's Gomora. This is also Zaragas' reintroduction into the Ultra Series since originally appearing in 1967 (for context, the movie came out in 2009).
See Ultraman TV Series

  • Breath Weapon: Zaragas spits a fireball at ZAP SPACY when it first arrives — an ability not seen in any other appearance.
  • The Bus Came Back: From this point onwards, Zaragas becomes a recurring kaiju for the next few Ultra series after a 40+ year absence from the franchise.

Alien Shaplay

A Reionyx who apparently survived the events of Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle NEO and is now working for Ultraman Belial. He is sent to patrol the frozen Land of Light with three of Belial's monsters (Dorako, Bemstar, and Salamandoras) and prevent Hayata, Dan, Mirai, and Rei from escaping the Land of Light to find Belial. This is also Alien Shaplay's reintroduction into the Ultra Series after his 1968 debut.
