Lio Shirazumi
- Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Can come across as one at times
- Dude Looks Like a Lady: Several characters have mistaken him for a woman
- Gender-Blender Name: His name, due to Japanese Ranguage, is actually pronounced “Rio”, which is a feminine name.
- Humanoid Abomination: He’s a flesh-eating, soul-eating monster. It’s revealed that he can assimilate anything that he considers “alive” into himself. It just happens his concept of life is a ‘’lot’’ broader than most.
- Nigh-Invulnerable: Lio has been incinerated alive by thermite to the point where he was reduced to literally nothing but a small pile of white ash at the bottom of a smoking crater, but came back from even that.
- No Social Skills: The cafe scene alone makes it clear he has very little idea how to interact with people in social situations.
- Oh, Crap!: Experiences this many times, but first exemplified when he realizes he’s standing next to a bomb.
- Supernatural Gold Eyes: As a result of having his Origin awakened in the backstory. They're retro-reflective, like cat's eyes, and several characters remark on how creepy this is.
- Super-Senses: Lio has been shown on separate occasions to have powerful sight, smell, and hearing. Ironically, his sense of taste has actually degraded.
- The Nose Knows: In the first chapter, he identifies an explosive by scent alone
- Later, he mentions being able to identify people by their scent

- Morality Pet: Just about the only person Lio will reign himself in and act normal for
Shiki Ryougi
- Bifauxnen: Looks a lot like her brother
Touko Aozaki
- Living Doll Collector: Just like Witch on the Holy Night, she has these stored in her workshop.
- Not Distracted by the Sexy: She had a young, fit, and attractive man, dripping wet and in an isolated room and didn't even blink.
- Sociopathic Hero: She is mainly helping Lio because he paid her. Oh, and Araya kidnapped Shiki.
