Domitian Occisor

Turian Soldier [Havoc]

Played by storymasterb
A brutal turian gun for hire, Domitian left Palaven many years ago, feeling his savage nature did not fit in with the regimented discipline of turian life. Since then, he has made his name as a killer, fearsome to the extreme and unhesitating. Though he takes payment for those he kills, his true motivation is to find worthy opponents and battles that fill him with excitement. In conversation, he is rude and arrogant, speaking with an eloquence at odds with his blunt and aggressive nature. But in the thick of battle, he is a sight to behold, striking with well-honed strikes of his omni-blades and precise shots from his assault rifle, aided by the jump jets in his armor that he crafted in imitation of the Havocs of the turian Armiger Legions.

Tropes:

  • Badass Normal: Not a biotic and has no access to tech powers. He gets by being really, really good with an assault rifle and omni-blades.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: He wields two omni-blades.
  • Blood Knight: He lives to fight and nothing else.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Part of his aggressive personality is a love for biting putdowns and snarky responses.
  • Expy: Word of God admits that he is, essentially, a transplanted Alarak, with basically the same attitude and mannerisms.
  • Foil: The Renegade to Melanie's Paragon. While she is a Barrier Warrior focused around more stationary combat and defensive moves, Domitian uses his jump jets for aggressive mobility and dominates close combat with his omni-blades.
  • Jet Pack: He uses jump jets built into his armor in the same style as the Havocs of the Armiger Legion, allowing him to quickly move around the battlefield.
  • Meaningful Name: His surname is Latin for 'murderer'.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Forms one half of the cast's unusual turian duo. In his case, he sacrifices the order part of the turian racial identity to push the militarism to the extreme, resulting in his prideful, insubordinate and bloodthirsty nature putting him at odds with society on Palaven.
  • Pretender Diss: His sign-up form notes that an actual Havoc would find Domitian's attempt to ape their fighting style rather amusing.
  • Red and Black and Evil All Over: His armor is red and black and he's among the most ruthless, aggressive and violent of the team.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The fierce, aggressive and rude red to Melanie's composed, kind and quiet blue.
  • Wicked Cultured: He speaks in a very elevated and eloquent manner at odds with his brutal personality.

Melanie Summers

Human Sentinel [Bastion]

Played by storymasterb
A young human woman originally from Earth, Melanie's family was fanatically anti-alien due to the loss of her uncle in the First Contact War. When her biotic potential was uncovered, instead of being taken into training by the Alliance, Melanie was given to Cerberus by her parents and subjected to brutal instruction and experimentation to try and push the limits of biotic ability. For two years, she suffered in their captivity, tortured physically and mentally in harrowing experiments to create a biotic super soldier and make her into a weapon against alien life. However, she endured long enough to escape when an Alliance military raid came upon the base in which she was held. After a brief and violent return to her home, Melanie fled Systems Alliance space altogether, running to Omega to escape the long arm of Cerberus, and becoming hardened by growing up on the lawless station.

Tropes:

  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Averted, she's got plenty of scars from her rough life.
  • Barrier Warrior: As a Bastion, Melanie focuses on defensive abilities, especially, of course, Barrier.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Her biotic implant is more powerful than its model suggests due to tampering by Cerberus, but comes at the cost of sometimes striking her with extremely painful and debilitating migraines.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Two years trapped in the hands of Cerberus while they tried to twist her into a biotic weapon for their use, followed by several more trying to survive on Omega.
  • Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: She's pale and black-haired.
  • Foil: Paragon to Domitian's Renegade. She dislikes doing immoral things and will only do it if she has to in order to survive, to the point that she maintains her inherent goodness even on Omega. She's a lot more polite and respectful, and genuinely tries to connect with and help others.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: She's had to do some horrible things to survive and often reflects that survival isn't pretty.
  • Mind over Matter: She has biotic powers.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The composed, kind and quiet blue to Domitian's fierce, aggressive and rude red.

Representative of the Elkoss Combine, Hec Brann is aboard the Shanxi to ensure their interests in the mission are protected.

Tropes:

  • Mysterious Backer: Besides wanting to get Elkoss' stolen item back, his motivations aren't fully clear and he hasn't revealed the full story to the team yet either.

Gatatog Reor

Krogan Soldier

Hec Brann's bodyguard.

Tropes:

Yulik Veron

Salarian Pilot

The energetic and excitable pilot of the Shanxi, Yulik Veron is famous and notorious in the Terminus Systems for his daredevil attempts to beat every speed record ever set in the lawless stars. Constantly on a high from substances both legal and illegal, Yulik's life expectancy is always very low, yet he has walked away from every new record and continues trying to set new ones.

Tropes:

  • Motor Mouth: Because he's constantly on a high, he chatters out words very quickly.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: While most salarians are more intellectual, Yulik is a fast-talking adrenaline junkie who's always high on caffeine or something illegal.

Lucianus Emil

Turian Doctor

A physician who was once famed on Palaven for his skills, Lucianus left in disgrace after a catastrophic failure. He has joined the crew due to a need for money to help the colony where he works.

Tropes:

  • My Greatest Failure: Whatever the mistake he made was, it clearly weighs heavily on him.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: The other half of the unusual turian duo. Lucianus sacrifices the militarism for more devotion to order, being a pacifist who refuses to fight but still fit into the turian system until his failure led him to leave Palaven to reevaluate himself.

Ariana Genasia

Asari Engineer

The ship's engineer, Ariana is very unlike other asari, constantly covered in grease and oil, and dressed as an engineer rather than a diplomat, an advisor or a dancer. Disliking her race's elegant culture and reputation for promiscuity, she surrounds herself in machinery and prefers to fix machines rather than entertain people.

Tropes:

  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Breaks away from the asari hat fully, preferring to take apart and rebuild machines rather than do much of anything with people, and being as rough and blunt as other asari are gentle and elegant. Melanie notes at one point that the only sign of asari gracefulness left in Ariana is how her fingers move as she disassembles a pistol.
  • Wrench Wench: The ship's engineer, and she's rarely seen not fiddling with some machinery.

Yir'Naemis vas Shanxi

Quarian Engineer

Essentially Ariana's partner and assistant, Yir'Naemis also serves aboard the ship, though much of his time is spent in self-reflection and meditation in the shadows. Cold-spoken and quiet, his quietness hides a philosophical bent and a curious mind which led him to ask questions his elders on the Flotilla found unsettling and unwelcome.

Tropes:

  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: Yir'Naemis breaks several traditions of quarian culture, in particular the fact that despite being on his Pilgrimage he has adopted the vas particle, feeling that he is mature despite what others may say.
  • Rebellious Spirit: He basically walks over quarian traditions like mad and notes that he doesn't return to the Flotilla because he finds life outside it liberating. In particular, he explains to Domitian that he asked certain questions about subjects other quarians consider taboo.
